DISTRICT SECRETARY’S M E S S A G E Congratulations to all Rotarians for entering into the year 2016.I say “Happy New Year” to us all. The month of January comes with mixed feelings, it is a time in which Rotary International’s Semi Annual Dues for January – July 2016 falls due; it is also a time most Clubs need to pay up outstanding District Dues (a lot of clubs are yet to pay the first half of their dues)). The Registration for The District Conference (DISCON 2016) is also ongoing and preparations for attendance at the Rotary International Convention in Seoul have reached high peak. The Cleft LipFree Surgery shall hold in Ilorin,Kwara State from January 10-23, 2015. This is in collaboration with Alliance for Smiles, Mike Omotosho Foundation, District 6450 USA and Kwara State Government.A team of 17 Volunteers comprising Doctors, Nurses and other Paramedics shall be arriving Nigeria from the USA, Canada and Australia on the 8th January, 2016 for this purpose. January 14, is our Gifting District Governor’s birthday. He intends to commence an Annual Lecture to focus on Leadership Growth in our society and this shall hold at the ShehuYar’Adua Conference Centre, Abuja. It is Rotary Vocational Service Month this January.Rotary International dedicatesthis month to focus on Members’ and other vocations. This reminds every Rotarian to aspire to high ethical standards in their occupations, recognize the worthiness of all useful occupations and contribute their vocational talents to resolve the problems and meet the needs of society When professionals join a Rotary Club, they do so as representatives of their classification – their particular

business or profession. Rotarians have the dual responsibility of representing their vocation within the club and exemplifying the ideals of Rotary within the workplace. Activities can be created this month by organizing Classification Talks at Club meetings, organize tours of members’ businesses, Community career fairs and workshops, Mentor young people and Promote ethical behavior in our businesses. The promotion of the Object of Rotary and the Four Way Test should also be prominent. In closing, let us be reminded that in February we shall celebrate the World Understanding Month. Clubs can arrange for International Speakers and alsotake the opportunity to launch an International Community Service activity or make contact with a Rotary Club in another country. The plan should start now! The District would also be organizing a Cultural Event for the occasion where Rotarian’s would be encouraged to prepare their cultural foods, wear cultural attires while cultural dances would be on display. Watch out for more details in the February newsletter as we promote International Peace together. Finally, Clubs are reminded about the “Request For The Nomination Of Candidate To Vie For The OfficeOf Governor Nominee 2018/2019 For District 9125 Nigeria” – the guidelines of which appeared on Page 17 of the DG Newsletter December Edition. Nominations must be in on or before Friday, 5th February 2016. PAG CHIDI ONUOGU District Secretary 2015-16 chiddyguy1@yahoo.com

Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones;and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. God awake! Just as we can't hurry the sun, we can't hurry the pace of the unfolding of what is in store for us. Everything will unfold in divine order. Many a man has come to grief because of impatience with waiting for their life's script to unfold. So whatever it is you long for, just do your bit and let go. It will come to pass. God is fully awake

LIVING IN CONTENTMENT

A

contented man is never disappointed. He who knows when to stop is preserved from peril. Only thus can you endure long. -Lao Tsu

Many people lose the main essence of their life's purpose and spend most of their time chasing after and being attached to things; money, position, power, authority and relevance. In the process they end up losing their inner peace and happiness. So if the chase is wearing you out , stop! If the chase is wrecking your relationship, stop! If the chase is keeping you from enjoying your life, stop! When you know when to stop the chase, then will you be on the path to enjoying a long, peaceful and contented life. So when are you gonna stop?

"How To Sell Toothbrushes The kids filed back into class Monday morning. They were very excited. Their weekend assignment was to sell something, then give a talk on productive salesmanship. Little Sally led off: "I sold girl scout cookies and I made $30," she said proudly, "My sales approach was to appeal to the customer's civic spirit and I credit that approach for my obvious success." "Very good," said the teacher. Little Jenny was next: "I sold magazines," she said, "I made $45 and I explained to everyone that magazines would keep them up on current events." "Very good, Jenny," said the teacher.. Eventually, it was Little Johnny's turn. The teacher held her breath ... Little Johnny walked to the front of the classroom and dumped a box full of cash on the teacher's desk. "$2,467," he said. "$2,467!" cried the teacher, "What in the world were you selling" "Toothbrushes," said Little Johnny. "Toothbrushes," echoed the teacher, "How could you possibly sell enough toothbrushes to make that much money?" "I found the busiest corner in town," said Little Johnny, "I set up a Dip & Chip stand, I gave everybody who walked by a free sample." They all said the same thing, "Hey, this tastes like dog sh*t!" Then I would say, "It is dog sh*t. Wanna buy a toothbrush?" "I used the governmental approach of giving you something shitty that they say is good, And then making you pay to get the shitty taste out of your mouth." The teacher was speechless. . . . . . . . ;-)

Inspiring story.. A Beautiful Message Arthur Ashe, The Legendary Wimbledon Player was dying of AIDS which he got due to Infected Blood he received during a Heart Surgery in 1983!He received letters from his fans, one of which asked: "Why did God have to select you for such a bad disease?" To this Arthur Ashe replied: 50 Million children started playing Tennis, 5 Million learnt to play Tennis, 500,000 learnt Professional Tennis, 50 Thousand came to Circuit, 5 Thousand reached Grandslam, 50 reached Wimbledon, 4 reached the Semifinals, 2 reached the Finals and when I was holding the cup in my hand, I never asked God "Why Me?" So, now that I'm in pain, how can I ask God "Why Me?"
