Once admitted into Rotman Commerce, you’re guaranteed a place in our program beginning in second year, provided you meet a few requirements. You’ll find more details on this guaranteed admission process on our website.
90%+ Typically, more than 90% of firstyear Rotman Commerce students advance into second year. If students take a different path, academic advisors help them navigate program transfers.
Second year
Expand your knowledge as you choose a specialist stream — Management, Finance & Economics, or Accounting — and enrol in both required and recommended elective courses. Consider choosing electives that comprise an Arts & Science minor to complement your business studies. Second year is particularly important for developing your personalized career strategy; Rotman Commerce Career Services offers a variety of workshops, seminars and events designed to help you do just that.
Your three specialist options
Management
Develop a strong understanding of the key business subdisciplines while gaining expertise in your area of interest. You also have the flexibility to further specialize by choosing a focus in one or more of the following fields: Finance, Financial Statement Analysis, International Business, Leadership in Organizations, Marketing, or Strategy and Innovation.
Finance & Economics
This specialist option provides rigorous training for careers in finance and capital markets — as an investment manager, for example, or a financial analyst. Leveraging the partnership between Rotman Commerce and the CFA Institute, our curriculum covers the internationally accepted body of knowledge required to prepare for the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) exams.
Accounting
Prepare for a career as a professional accountant, developing your expertise in accounting and a deeper understanding of different businesses and business environments. Graduates often go on to complete their CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation and build successful careers in firms of all sizes.
As soon as you’re accepted into Rotman Commerce, you’re on your way. Over the next four years, you build a program of foundational, specialized and elective courses tailored to your unique interests and future goals.
Third and fourth year
In your final two years you pursue both in-depth specialist studies and a wide range of elective courses — while integrating the knowledge and skills you gain outside of class as well. You also take part in networking and recruitment activities with support from the RC Career Services team. And you can explore many other potential avenues, such as:
• Applying what you’ve learned to real-world scenarios through our Consult for Impact program or Portfolio Management Group. • Launching a startup through one of U of T’s many entrepreneurship programs. • Joining the Alumni Mentorship
Program to benefit from the insights and experience of
Rotman Commerce alumni. • Participating in an international exchange at more than 130 partner institutions worldwide or taking a summer course abroad.
