About the Workshop From H-2-O is a dynamic training workshop that allows teachers to work with educators, scientists, and mentors to build a community of partners that are incorporating water sampling into their science curriculum using Bayouside Classroom (www.lumcon. edu/bayousideclassroom). Become a Bayouside Classroom teacher and give your students hands-on scientific experience in the environment while helping to monitor Louisiana water quality. The focus of this unique workshop is on water quality and how you can use regular sampling to help you students understand their place in the estuary or watershed, and what types of water quality exist in estuaries and watersheds. Every workshop participant will obtain the equipment and knowledge to use Bayouside Classroom to educate students about some of coastal Louisiana’s environmental concerns. Teachers who attend this workshop will be asked to regularly add data collected from their sites to the Bayouside Classroom database. Participation in this workshop means you can then work with LUMCON’s Bayouside Classroom program.
Who Can Apply Any Louisiana middle school or high school science teacher is welcome to apply. Teachers who have been fully trained to use Bayouside Classroom are encouraged to apply to be a mentor. If you are applying for the first time, please make sure that your school administrator is aware that participation in this program requires students to collect water samples during class time.
