OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
It is my honor to welcome you to our beautiful city and thank you for your participation in Tulsa’s Route 66 Marathon. I invite you to stay and enjoy all our city has to offer, from great restaurants and unique shopping venues to exciting entertainment opportunities and various Route 66 icons you’ll see in Tulsa.
Tulsans are extremely proud of our Route 66 heritage. Here in Tulsa, Route 66 is a worldwide destination and is a vital and greatly beloved part of our city’s amazing history. Route 66 passes straight through Tulsa, connecting the east side to downtown and the west side.
I am excited about the new course of the marathon that will allow you as runners to see the different aspects of Tulsa. A glaze through Tulsa’s crown jewel place, Gathering Place is an entirely free park for everyone of all ages. While you are here, I invite you to explore and experience one of the greatest public parks in America.
As the marathon takes you toward Downtown Tulsa, you will pass by the Bob Dylan Center, a new, world-class museum located in the Tulsa Arts District. While there, you will have the opportunity to view one-of a-kind treasures and exhibits from the legendary singer and song writer.
When you approach the finish line via the Midland Valley Trail, I hope you enjoy the paved route with tree-lined scenery that accommodates all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts.
Thank you again for being a part of the Route 66 Marathon. I wish you good luck as you prepare for a legendary race that is part of a celebration of Tulsa’s history, and I hope your stay here yields exciting sights and experiences you won’t find anywhere else.
Best regards,
G. T. Bynum Mayor City of Tulsa
