I’m a licensed architect in the state of Missouri and a NCARB member since 2012, also a LEED Green Associate. I graduated with honors from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Architecture. Reality is interesting to me, what’s physical and naturally occurring is better than any fictional based project that could be happening in the future. A simple project that becomes a reality may be more interesting than any complex project that lives on paper. I am a thinker and a designer of this period. I respect the traditional by not copying it or getting in the way of it. I try to integrate a project by contrast and not by repetition. All of the projects presented here are real projects. Each of them had a face, a budget and a site constraint. Some are built, some under construction and others pending on reasons beyond architecture and design. I’m fascinated with Architecture and Arts, and their effect in society that can transform communities. I believe this world would be in better shape if we had more architects and artists. My work is a reflection of the value I place on people; whether it is the client or the user. With this in mind I strive to create architecture that positively impacts both, people and the environment.

01 PLAZA EMPORIUM 2003 | Acapulco, MEX I designed this shopping mall during my time as an Design Architect with Grupo Aryba a design-build company based in Leon, Mexico. The mall is a three-story building with a parking tower on the back. It is located in the heart of the commercial and hotel district in Acapulco. A wide range of colors and a minimalist design were used to provide a fresh look in this tropical seaside city.

02 PLAZA CIBELES 2003 | Irapuato, MEX As a lead design architect for Grupo Aryba, I developed schematic design drawings and the final design for a shopping mall in the heart of Mexico. I assisted the company with design presentation with multiple investors and national & international retail companies The goal was to create an impressive modern shopping mall in a vacant area of one of the fastest growing medium-sized cities in central Mexico. The mall was the first piece of a very ambitious real estate project.
Tinted glass and clean lines accentuate this mall. A curb roof at the entry point breaks the flat roof monotony of this two-story building. The materials and colors on the faรงade give a vibrant appearance as they delineate the main anchor stores.

03 ALIANZA BUILDING 2008 | Leon, MEX I was part of a design team assigned to prepare a set of design drawings for a by-invitation-only architectural competition. The project was the headquarters for a credit union company. My major role was to design the building. Cost analysis and computer renderings were done by the other team members. The corporate tower stands in contrast to the recreation center, a one-story, long building, with a 3:1 proportion. A wood cubic element that intersects the tower holds the director’s office and a meeting room. Above the recreation center, the roof extends beyond the glass façade to provide sun protection while it plays with lights and shadows. An exposed concrete cube marks the entry level of the tower.
The vertical volume in contrast with the horizontal evokes the fluctuability of the stock financial market. The intersecting elements in each of the buildings give us the sense of expectation, acting as if they were periscopes, as if they were looking into the future, protecting the investment of their members.

04 TWIN RIVERS CHURCH 2005 | Saint Louis, MO A design proposal for a mega church building in the suburbs of Saint Louis, MO. The project sits on a slope site which creates entry points at different levels. The four-story rear facade is facing the highway, a prominent location to display contemporary design. Horizontal elements are contrasted by the tower and the use of tall windows. A wood faรงade was provided to warm the masonry exterior walls.
05 CROSSPOINT CHURCH 2013 | Saint Louis, MO I developed an expansion master plan and a new exterior design for Crosspoint Church, a fast growing church in the Saint Louis South County area. The master plan includes a new 1,000 seat sanctuary, classrooms and the administration building. A glass tower anchors the site and provides visibility from the highway.

06 OAK BRIDGE CHURCH 2013 | Saint Louis, MO This church acquired a former car dealership building to become its permanent worship facility. The building needed a transformation for its new use. Adding key elements to the building was the most cost-effective solution. Different colors and shapes represent the dynamic style of the church.
I prepared schematic design drawings to present to the church, and developed the final design. I utilized 3D modeling/renderings during the design phase of the project to help the church visualize the interior spaces.

08 CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP 2018 | Columbia, MO
E: rowaz2@yahoo.com P: 314.650.2907
Christian Fellowship of Columbia is one of the biggest churches in town. They already owned a large property in the suburbs and it was time to start thinking about the future and bigger church facility. I developed the design and master plan for this church building of 34,000 sf. A contemporary style and materials reflect the culture of the church. The floor plan design anticipates future ministry expansion and the ability to be built in phases. The site plan also accommodates potential re-location of the church’s pre K-12 school.

09 JUBILEE CHURCH 2019 | Saint Louis, MO I worked closely with Jubilee Church to design their new facility in Sunset Hills, MO. They had one requirement in mind, “We want a church that doesn’t look like a church, and that relates to the church’s demographics”. With that in mind a flat roof made sense to break the stipple & gable roof church stereotype. I contrasted the horizontality with vertical elements. Multi-tone fiber cement panels compose the gathering rooms (sanctuary and multipurpose room), the rest is stucco with a brick base. I wanted to accent the main entry by having a full brick wall with clerestory windows. A vertical element furred with wood planks frames the church signature logo.

Prior to buying the property, the church needed to know if a potential church building and its requirement could fit in the site. I presented several site plan options to the church so they could make a decision. The reduced urban site was a challenge, but I was able to fit the building, the required parking, and space for a rain garden (bio detention).

It made sense to have a very compact but functional floor plan to be able to fit within the property lines.

10 LANE LAB BUILDING 2019 | Saint Louis, MO
Demolition of portion of existing building

New accent element
The Lab Lane Building consists of a renovation and reuse of an existing old warehouse building to host laboratories and offices for a prominent local bio research company. The two main facades have been redesigned to reflect a clean and contemporary look which goes hand & hand with the values of the company. A section of the warehouse has taken off to create an attractive main entry, with a trellis like cover that seems to be floating.

11 FRIENDLY TEMPLE 2013 | Saint Louis, MO An inner city Baptist congregation adds a state-ofthe-art sanctuary and support areas to their already extensive complex. A new worship space increases their campus by nearly 35,000 square feet. The entrance to the new facility introduces a contemporary design created with 3 stories of windows.

13 SKETCHES CONCEPTUAL ARCHITECTURAL SKETCHES I believe the ability to express a design idea with a quick hand drawn sketch should be in any designer’s tool box. Hand drawn drawings offer a way for architects to explore ideas that computer applications can’t. It’s very rewarding for me when I’m in a project meeting, and I have the opportunity to sketch an idea in front of a client. They seem to appreciate the human and organic touch. Every design is conceived in the mind of an architect, and born in a hand drawn sketch. Subsequently, it’s nourished with computer added technology.
