EXT. COFFEE SHOP/CAPE TOWN - NIGHT On a TIGHT MCU we open on CAREN(26, a Petite Blonde), a waitress who just ended her shift at a local coffee shop. She's outside in the street texting an UBER taxi, waiting & waiting. Concerned. CUT TO:

INT. UBER TAXI - NIGHT We cut inside a driving taxi and her phone rings. She answers. CAREN hey INTERCUT WITH:

INT. CAR/JOHANNESBURG - NIGHT On this end is SARAH(a mid-twenties, Accountant) driving in her car from work, stuck in Johannesburg traffic. CAREN I was just about to call SARAH Sure you were. Okay so listen, is everything still going on for this weekend? ZEE and I are flying in tomorrow and as you know, we're not really local hippies like you two, and buy the way, how is... NICK a(mid-twenties, skinny, kind-looking) guy hikes through the the scenic hilltops of Cape Town. He has a small backpack on his back. Nick runs past road works, stops, takes a few steps back, opens his backpack and takes out a STILLS SLR CAMERA, and takes a photo of a road sign that reads: DETOUR. He is impressed with his finding. The TV is on and we find NICK scrolling through the channels, while reading the BRAND ADVERTISING 2006 EDITION. NICK (to himself) There's literally nothing good on TV nowadays. Like literally. Literally nothing. Caren enters the flat, browsing her phone. CAREN hey. NICK Hey Not a lot of excitement from Caren as she walks to the bedroom. NICK Are you excited for the weekend getaway? Babe. Babe Caren leans in from the bedroom doorway. CAREN Oh yeah..that. Yeah sounds fun. NICK We probably need to pack soon. I was thinking of taking our SLR camera, and getting a few rolls of Film. Caren is not in a mood to talk. CAREN (from the bedroom, unseen) Honey, Can you Please go get the mail. I'm gonna take a shower okay. NICK Now. really?

CAREN You didnt even work today. Hardly ever. NICK Common, that's not fair. I work with ideas and concepts and consumer pricing statistics. Caren comes out again, this time, undressing as she talks. CAREN I served 50 cups of coffee before lunch. Tell me about it. NICK Someone's in a good mood. SSSHHH! we hear the shower bursting with water. CUT TO: 7

EXT. APARTMENT BLOCK/PASSAGE WAY - LATER Nick walks out into the passageway but is stopped by a little Jack Russel dog, looking directly at him. NICK (to the dog) Where did you come from little guy? The dog does nothing. Nick opens the Mailbox, takes the letters. CUT TO:

INT. APARTMENT BLOCK/STAIRCASE - LATER As Nick walks back, with all attention to the little dog he is carrying up the stairs, he is stopped by a big and obese OLD VETERAN MAN. He is the landlord. LANDLORD Three weeks. (CONTINUED)

8 NICK We're almost there man. I'm getting paid in a week and Caren is working double shifts. LANDLORD Life doesn't work that way Nick. NICK I can if you allow it. LANDLORD As much as I think you're adorable, I can't make it happen for you this time Nick. It's the end of the year and a lot of people flock to the city and need places to stay, you know that. NICK I never thought you were gay. LANDLORD Dude, I'm wearing pink trainers, my skin is perfect and I'm 60 years old with a comb-over like Donald Trump. NICK Seems like Pink is the new Black.

The landlord gives a smirk, Nick looks down at his trainers.We show the pink trainers. As the Landlord looks down at him, but he quickly sneaked past him. NICK (cont'd) So is that a yes. The Landlord turns around and raises his voice as Nick runs up the stairs. LANDLORD No. I'ts not a yes dude. and that dog doesn't belong here. Did you bring him here.

Nick, halts. NICK This little guy. I found him.. He found me. Nick jogs away and we HOLD ON the Landlords unimpressed expression CUT TO: 9

INT. NICK & CAREN'S ROOM - LATER Nick is holding the dog up in the air. It's face in a BIG CLOSE UP. Caren is drying her hair, half naked. NICK Babe, I got some good news, some bad news and then...well...then there's this. Caren turns the hairdryer off. CAREN (not that impressed) you gotta be kidding me? I ask you to get the mail and you bring back a dog. Caren walks to her wardrobe and starts getting dressed, while Nick remains on the spot. NICK Isn't he cute. CAREN He's not ours and he probably has rabies or some street carrying illness. NICK (to the dog) She didn't mean that. (CONTINUED)

Nick does as he is told and puts the dog down in the living room area. NICK We got mail. It's on the bed. Caren finds the letter. CUT TO: 10

INT. KITCHEN/LIVINGROOM - CONTINUOUS Nick is looking for something the dog can eat and Caren steps into the room opening the letter. CAREN This letter is from the landlord. Nick found milk & cookies and is looking for a bowl. CAREN Just let the dog eat. We need to talk. Caren takes a seat on their living room couch. NICK This sounds bad. Is it bad. I hope its not bad... Caren says nothing. Nick joins her on the couch. Caren doesn't know how to put it to him. NICK ...Are we playing charade's here or what? just tell me already. CAREN We gotta renew our lease next week.

INT. CORPORATE ROOFTOP/CAPE TOWN - DAY We're on top of a Corporate rooftop and we find MATT(Mid Twenties, Douchebag, Nick's best friend) eating a burger while talking to Nick, who's drinking a coffee. NICK Yeah, so that happened. MATT Well that came out of nowhere

Nick looks at Matt with curious eyes. A pause. MATT Your'e not coming to live with me, if that's what your asking. NICK Common man, just let me crash at your place for a while until I figure this out. Matt isn't interested taking photos of the nice view. NICK Common. I'm kind of stuck here. Matt looks up. MATT You're over analyzing this. You're always over analyzing things. Act like it's not even a big deal. Girls don't know what they think sometimes, and before you know it she will change her mind and all will he hunky dory. NICK I guess you're right. Matt is quite proud of his statement.

INT. COFFEE SHOP/KITCHEN - DAY It's chaos in the kitchen at local coffee shop where Caren works. Orders coming in and out. Steam from the gril. Sweaty kitchen staff. In comes Caren and drops and order at the pickup counter. CAREN Where's my two breakfast specials please. The GRILLER approaches.

13 GRILLER We sent out that order with the other waitress a few minutes ago. CAREN What? to who? GRILLER To the new waitress. table 5. CAREN oh common man. that was my order. table 17. fuck.

The MANAGER steps into the kitchen. MANAGER do we have a problem here. GRILLER doesn't have time to argue and gets back to work. CAREN She took my order. That's the problem. Caren leaves the kitchen. The Manager yells from the behind. MANAGER Caren you have on top of things. The customers are complaining about you you know. Caren enters the public space and responses aggressively, unaware of the public, eating and conversing peacfully in seating area surrounding her. CAREN The new girl fucks up her tables and all of a sudden it's my problem. I've been here for 2 years. Two years. Everyone stares at Caren. She drops her head

Caren is trying to clean the place up, walking up and down, rushing. NICK So have you given it some thought? CAREN I have. NICK and CAREN I'm not sure yet. NICK about where you're moving into? CAREN that, but also. but also us you know. NICK no I don't know. please enlighten me. CAREN If I move out, I think it would be best if we give us some space... Nick tries to make a joke out of it. SARAH (Petite, Brunette) and ZEE (Black, Curvy, Groovy) SARAH open up open up, I'm fucking wet already. Zee embraces the rain and pays the Uber Driver while they unpack. ZEE Hey girlfriend! JAKE What's up mother fuckers! It's about time. The girls jump out and craze over Jake. Jake has always been the coolest single friend they've ever known. Nick unloads the car. NICK Jake-boy. INT. SCARBOROUGH GETAWAY LOFT - NIGHT Nick, Caren, Zee and Sarah go inside and unpack their bags in their rooms. Behind the loft bar counter we find Matt, who keeps looking at Sarah for some reason. Sarah finds interest too. MATT Don't mind me! I'm just the guy by the bar. (CONTINUED)

Sarah and Zee join Nick in the Livingroom, while Jake is getting the fire started outside on the wooden pier. CAREN Sarah, Zee. This is Matt. He's single, but I wouldn't touch Jake shouts from outside JAKE I'm also single. SARAH yeah, but you don't count. JAKE what why? Nick is my best friend, but that's only because we are practically born from the same mother, because his mom looked after me when my mom and dad were fighting and shit, but that's all over now. Caren wakes up, but Nick is gone. She slumbers through the house trying to find him. Zee is in the Kitchen, making power shakes. ZEE Hey there. Do you want some of this? CAREN Sure. where is Nick? ZEE They went surfing early this morning. CAREN and Sarah? ZEE I think she went with them? CAREN She was kind of into Matt. ZEE She does look like the kind of girl who would date that kind of guy. Caren is thrown off and takes a seat on the leather living room couch. ZEE (cont'd) For a moment you were worried. CAREN Nick would have told me you know. He would have woken me up and said. "Baby I'm going surfing with the boys", kissed me on the forehead and tucked me back in...you know. Zee takes the shakes and walks over to Caren and hands her one. ZEE Let's go surfing.

EXT. BEACH - DAY Inductive Close Ups of Matt's shoes, mingled with Sarah's feet, underneath a think beach blanket, PAN up to their faces, fast asleep. Hungover. Caren and Zee stand and stare at them, when a SHOUT is heard from the waters. JAKE Hey! It's Jake, walking out with his surfboard. JAKE (cont'd) The water is cold this side. Fuck. I can't even feel my dick. MATT leave us alone. We're trying to recover. Matt and Sarah rise up. SARAH I need a shower. Caren has an expression of expectation of her face when she looks at Sarah. Sarah and Matt share a glimpse, smiling. CAREN Where's Nick? JAKE I don't know. I thought he was with you? ZEE and we thought he was with you. MATT This is going to be a long day.

She gives one to Caren. SARAH He'll show up. CAREN We didn't even fight or argue... SARAH When did you last see him? CAREN We were outside talking to Jennifer and Rose and then the night got crazy. You know how it goes. When did you last see him? SARAH I wasn't paying a lot of my attention to him. CAREN You need to be careful. Matt is a total asswhole. Well.. He can be if he wants to be.

He's girlfriend is moving out and about to leave him, for being loving and kind and hardworking and just about every good thing a guy can be... We leave the scene on Caren's uncertain expression. EXT. NICKS APARTMENT - DAY We fade in to the PHOTOGRAPH of Caren that nick didn't throw away. It's on the coffee table in Nick's flat. We hear Nick whistling from the bathroom. He's in the shower, shaving. As he gets out he stands dead stiff, looking at the Landlord, who let himself in. LANDLORD What...I had keys.

The Landlord throws Nick a white towel on the shelf next to him. Nick puts it around his waist. LANDLORD He runs away and then it takes me an hour to find him. The dog tripples into the room. NICK (to the dog) Hey boy. Nick crouches down and rubs his back... LANDLORD You look sad man. NICK I'm trying. LANDLORD You need to clean your apartment. It's the first step to recovery. The Landlord leaves the room. Nick follows him. NICK Thanx. for you know. looking after him. LANDLOR I've been the landlord of this building for a long time man. I'm almost 40, and this is Literally the only job I've ever had, other than being World of Warcraft Community mananger for three years running, and don't give me that face. It is a job.
