T H E C I RC L E My last project, which consists of a linocut series, is an attempt to develop the theme of game, manipulation, fear in the human relationships, their unconscious conflict exploration, themes around which I’ve been revolving around for a long time and to which I have a personal interest in. I’ve choosen to visually transpose by making a parallel with the animal kingdom, because I found it as a more apropiate way to express myself. Also, the fauna is the second theme of interest for me. I find it perfect to combine these two worlds for a final result that manages to express the best of my fellings regarding the intricate relations between humans.

O PEN STO RY This project is still revolving around the animal life and it shows my interest for illustration. The project consists of following a reverse order in constructing a story. Instead of illustrating a text with accurate characters, story and environment, I challenged a chosen character, in this case, a penguin, to create his own story. I have developed the character up to a point, playing with the new characters coming along the way, time at a time, playing with the composition, the environment. In the end, although it was easy to create a finished story, the fact that the people assisting the process were starting to come up with different stories, made me rethink, and leave the story open to interpretation. The chosen technique was linocut for its flexibility, so that every playful experiment had an unexpected result.

T H E SH APE G A ME The shape game was a real pleasure to play. The project is as simple and as fun as it gets. I made simple watercolor shapes, without any intention, that were just layed down with spontaneity on paper. This time I used the watercolor technique, for its great watery texture, that doesn’t offer so much control when thrown on paper. The next step, and the most interesting was trying to give life to these neutral spots, which was so easy to do. With each touch of the liner, the characters were coming to life, becoming a curious, shy, confused, sad or scared little character ready to win your heart. For the intervention part I used only liners and markers to keep it simple

BIRDS MENU This project started as an ideea for a small children’s book. The idea was to create a menu that the birds would feast from, composed from various species of insects. It is a great way for the kids to learn in a fun manner. The menu was created to open as an accordion book style. The final touch would be adding the ‘‘prices’’, which in this case, would be the precious and various types of seeds. The technique chosen was once again, the linocut, all in black inking.

S I FA P R E S TO A D I R E FA M E book intervention The purpose of this project was to transform a book in an artistic object. The cover of the book was transformed in a box, which I painted and stamped. It holds two smaller books, obtained by cutting the initial interior body. I then stamped each page using the linocut technique, only with black ink, with images created in my mind while reading the book. This was my attempt to describe the atmosphere I found between the lines. In the end, I put the pages together using the japanese bookbinding and the new little books in the protective new covers.
