very busy working on our gym technology and sound system renovation, installing fans and new lighting in our classrooms, and putting in new library flooring and carpet. We also added electrical floor outlets in the new Science classrooms to finish off Phase 1 of our two-phase science renovation. There was a lot of dust flying around, but we are now enjoying the fruits of that labor! This fall we also launched our first ever Cenacle Luncheon to welcome our new freshmen. Complete with Chick-Fil-A, our newest Wildcats ate family-style around the bell tower and lived our school theme of “I am the Bread of Life’’ as they broke bread together. The word Cenacle is the name of the “Upper Room’’ where Jesus broke bread with his Apostles before they launched into their ministry as disciples. Father Ginter did a wonderful job explaining the parallel of how they were breaking bread in community together to launch the first steps in their MC journey. While change is always afoot, what remains the same is the strength of the Marin Catholic mission and our community. The ground ahead is often unknown, but faith and prayer accompany us knowing our Wildcat spirit will lead us through. GIVING AT MARIN CATHOLIC Annual Fund
The Annual Fund is the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts, and we rely on its support to provide the rich academic and extracurricular offerings that define the Marin Catholic experience. Marin Catholic depends on the generosity of its community–current parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, faculty/staff, and friends–to provide unrestricted, tax-deductible dollars to the operating budget, impacting everything at MC. These charitable contributions help bridge the gap between tuition and the full cost of a Marin Catholic education. Rather than charge the full cost of tuition to every family, Marin Catholic keeps tuition costs to a minimum.
Special Events & Grand Sponsors
Special events throughout the year raise funds for programs benefiting our students, increase awareness and engagement, and provide opportunities for our community to celebrate together. Grand Sponsors make a special underwriting gift that supports events throughout the year, above and beyond their Annual Fund donation. Last year’s Grand Sponsors underwrote such events as the Spring Auction, Crab Feed, Faith & Fatherhood, Art Extravaganza, and the Athletic Hall of Fame. This fund even helped to reduce the ticket cost for both Junior and Senior Prom.
Directed Gifts & Endowments
Directed gifts support specific programs and initiatives at MC, such as scholarships and other identified areas of need. Gifts to the endowment provide for the financial sustainability of MC now and into the future. Endowed funds provide a stable revenue stream to the school’s operating budget each year while keeping the principal intact.
Campaigns
Capital campaigns help MC enhance the 21st-century learning experience and student life. The Dino Ghilotti Motta Stadium Complex marked the completion of the 20-year, $32 million Vision Plan, updating our facilities. In February 2021, our first step in our new 20-year Internal Vision Plan was realized with the blessing and dedication of our new St. Anselm Hall. In the Summer of 2022, we created more space for our life science studies by updating three classrooms in our science wing. This is the first phase of a long-term goal to modernize and upgrade all of our science labs and classrooms.
Planned Giving
Planned gifts provide MC with future support, while allowing donors to attend to the financial needs of their families. Bequests and gifts of retirement accounts or life insurance policies are straightforward ways to support MC with a planned gift. We recognized our Principal’s Club benefactors ($3,500 or more) at our annual Principal’s Club reception held at Playa Restaurant in Mill Valley. The event allowed our community to connect and share fellowship while enjoying a delicious night out. Fatherhood Event
October 21, 2022
The fifth annual evening on Faith and the Vocation of Fatherhood was held in the Saint John Paul II Student Center at MC. All MC fathers were encouraged to bring their dads and friends. The event began with a celebration of Mass followed by fellowship, a Taco Truck Dinner, and a panel discussion led by Orin Carpenter, Co-Dean of Students, Mark Jaeger, Visual Arts teacher, Mazi Moayed, Head Varsity Football Coach and Joe Ward, Science teacher. It was a night to remember, as over 100 fathers attended the event and shared their perspectives on faith and fatherhood.
President’s Dinner

Marin Catholic recognized its generous President’s Circle benefactors ($7,000 or more) at the annual President’s Dinner, held at The Bungalow Kitchen Tiburon by Michael Mina. Marin Catholic took over the entire restaurant where the community was personally thanked by President Tim Navone. Donors were able to visit with many different members of the community while hearing about the impact of their generosity. Sip, Shop & Mingle November 27, 2022
The Annual Sip, Shop, and Mingle Holiday Boutique was held in the Saint John Paul II Student Center. It was a wonderful night for parents and friends of the MC community to enjoy savory snacks while finding that perfect Christmas gift. Over 20 different vendors offered everything from beautiful handbags, eyewear, floral arrangements, jewelry, clothing, and tasty treats, with a percentage of all sales benefiting MC students and programs. Attendees were also able to take a break from shopping to learn more about the Spring Auction, MC’s largest fundraiser.
Crab Feed
January 21, 2023
The Annual MC Crab Feed, hosted by our Athletic Department, was held in the Saint John Paul II Student Center. Over 200 Patrons and Boosters dined on a delicious family-style dinner of fresh crab, clams, mussels, pasta, antipasto, Caesar salad, and tiramisu. It was a traditional Italian feast put on by Jeff and Theresa Figone (Laura ‘21) and the entire extended Figone family, who cooked, prepared, and organized this feast. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate the fantastic community that is Marin Catholic and to raise awareness for our athletes and visual & performing arts students, and the continued growth of our programs.
Auction & Student Showcase March 11, 2023
The Ocean’s 23 Auction & Student Showcase was a tremendous success thanks to our community’s participation and generosity. We raised over $375,000 for our Funda-Need alone! These funds went directly toward the technological upgrades needed to bring our 1949 gymnasium into the 21st century, including a state-of-the-art sound system, digital touch screen record boards, top flight wifi capability, and locker room technology. It also helped fund the mechanics needed to display a beautiful hand painted tapestry to transform our gym into a sacred space on liturgy days.

2022-2023 Visual and Performing Arts Events Fall Play
October 28-30, 2022
MC’s Director of Dramatics, Carmen Doane-Barkan directed her first play at MC last fall, Arsenic and Old Lace. It is a classic dark comedy in which a young man, Mortimer Brewster, desperately tries to cling to normalcy when he suddenly discovers that his life is anything but normal! As events unfold, kindness and generosity are called into question, and family secrets are revealed. The play was a great success and audiences that attended were treated to a great night of entertainment by a group of very talented MC students.
Fall Music Concerts
November 16-18, 2022
Last year’s Fall Concert was three nights of “Life-Changing Songs” including music from Boston, The Beatles, One Direction, No Doubt, and more. Students were able to showcase music that has changed their lives!
Spring Musical
April 18-20, 2023
MC’s Performing Arts department wowed audiences with this year’s Spring Musical, Singin’ in the Rain! This show walked audiences down the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater of 1920s Hollywood, where silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont struggled to film the first “talkies.” Romance, gossip, laughs and tap dancing help us through and remind us that “the show must go on” and love conquers all!

Spring Music Concerts April 26-28, 2023
Marin Catholic’s Spring Music Concerts in Studio 38 were a resounding success! With the theme “Parent’s Favorites,” the concerts featured over 7 hours of music, 18 diverse musical acts, 13 original songs, a captivating student/ faculty performance, and a stunning custom laser light show. The concerts featured a wide range of music from artists including, The Clash, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, and The Beatles to name a few. We are incredibly proud of the students’ commitment and dedication that made these concerts truly remarkable. Their passion for music was evident in every note played and every song written.
Art Extravaganza April 29, 2023
The 15th annual Art Extravaganza showcased MC Visual Art students. This event is meant to shine a light on each of the Visual Art disciplines: Drawing, Painting, Photography and Ceramics. The Art Extravaganza featured over 150 of our advanced visual art students who have worked for multiple years to build unique skills and develop their own form of artistic expression. The event is made up of over 400 individual works of art and each discipline is judged by a professional artist in their respective field. The Art Extravaganza clearly displays the wealth of riches in talent within our community. This complimentary event is open to the public with well over 400 people attending each year.

Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet April 21, 2023 Marin Catholic welcomed six new honorees into the Marin Catholic Athletic Hall of Fame. This year’s honorees included standout tennis pioneer Lisa Beritzhoff ‘75, former NFL running back Kahlil Bell ‘05, U.S. National and UC Davis Water Polo standout Carmen Eggert ‘09, Detroit Lions Pro Bowl Quarterback Jared Goff ‘13, Athletic Benefactor Richard Ghilotti, and the legendary 1998 & 1999 Women’s Water Polo teams. To be eligible for the Athletic Hall of Fame, athletes must be at least 10 years from their graduation from Marin Catholic. Honorees are selected by a committee that includes the Marin Catholic Athletic Department and school president.

Spring Auction Fund-A-Need:
Freitas Memorial Gymnasium Technological Initiative At this year’s Spring Auction Fund-a-Need paddle raise, our generous Benefactors donated over $375,000 alone to MC’s technological upgrade of our 1949 gymnasium to the 21st century. This initiative included a state-of-the-art sound system, a digital touch screen record board, top flight wifi capability, and locker room technology, so coaches and student athletes can watch film. The outdated gymnasium sound system now has customized capabilities for the different types of events: liturgies, rallies, athletic events, and guest speakers. Another enhancement included removing our historic hallway record boards and replacing them with digital and searchable touch systems. The upgraded gymnasium features top flight wifi capability that will now allow for large scale student testing and the ability to hold large scale community events. Finally, we were gifted with $75,000 from one of our mission-minded benefactors to purchase a hand painted backdrop to transform our gymnasium for Mass into a sacred space. This funding will also aid in the mechanics to reveal this backdrop behind the altar on liturgy days, as the tapestry is still being created.

Athletic Training Room Fundraiser This parent-run initiative raised money for needed items in MC’s Training Room, including but not limited to electric rollers, heating pads, ultrasound machines and taping tables. Jamie Waterman, Athletic Trainer - ATC, EMT, Red Cross Instructor, has been at Marin Catholic for over 22 years working with our student-athletes for injury prevention, evaluation and recovery, including rehab, referrals, modalities, and taping. Before and after games, Jamie administers treatment including hot/cold modalities, ultrasound/ muscle stimulation, stretching, taping and wrapping. In addition, Jamie also runs our school-wide Concussion Injury Management and Care Protocol programs that include Return to Learn and Return to Sports.

Celebrating the Class of 2023 Marin Catholic’s Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation Ceremony in honor of the Class of 2023 took place on Thursday, June 1 at the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco. Father Andrew Ginter, Chaplain for Marin Catholic gave a very thoughtful homily to the graduates and their families. He reminded the class that their freshman year at MC was also his first year on the MC campus. He looked back to the year 2019 when they all arrived and pointed out how far they had come since that time, acknowledging how much they had experienced and accomplished. He noted the three questions that he had posed to them at that time, “Who are you? Whose are you? Where are you going? He posed these same three questions to them during his sermon, taking the first question and telling them that he saw very different individuals now. That they are more comfortable in their own skin, confident and full of grace. Regarding the second question, he told them that he knows that they realize they are truly children of God and part of the MC community forever. He told them that even though they might not know where they are going, he prays that their faith gives them joy, hope and the guidance to lead them on their right paths. In closing, he told the class that today was a day to celebrate and reminded them to Always Come Home…to the church, to their families and to MC, as MC will always be their home. Presenting the 169 diplomas were President Tim Navone and Principal Chris Valdez.

Class of 2023 College Acceptance List Our 169 graduates received over 900 acceptances to colleges and universities nationwide. We recognize their achievements and the 27,190 Christian Service hours they have contributed to people in need, locally and around the world. Now, go get ‘em, Cats! 100% COMMUNITY PARTIC 98% of our art students showcased their many talents this year. 12 music classes of over 320 students entertained us with 12 live performances and concerts, and over 150 Art I students created an ocean experience (with boats!) for the Ocean’s 23 Auction and Student Showcase. The Patrons of the Arts supported our arts community throughout the year at plays and performances and hosted our Annual Art Extravaganza with over 400 jury-selected art entries in the disciplines of Photography, Drawing, Painting, and Ceramics.
Our Parent Campus Ministry Book Club, which included 20 parents and alumni, was moderated by our very own Dr. Michelle Fonatine and met 12 times throughout the year to read and discuss A.D. 30 and A.D. 33, both novels of historical fiction. This, along with the new Scripture and Faith sharing group for parents, promoted community through literature and developed relationships through discussion of the Gospel.
The deep commitment to community was demonstrated by the 83% of families participating in fundraising efforts that directly supported academic and extracurricular activities for our students. This is significant as nearly onethird of our students receive financial aid.

CIPATION MAKES AN IMPACT! The Athletics Boosters program grew by over 30%, and generous donors rallied to support our athletes by providing direct financial support, including funding new women’s and men’s basketball and other team uniforms, contributing to the Training Room upgrades, providing new LAX goals, new Pole Vault and Cheer Team needs in support of our athletes. Athletic Boosters and Patrons of the Arts benefactors were invited to our annual Crab Feed, which served up over 400 pounds of crab!
Over 95% of our community participated in events which raised vital funds to benefit student programs at every grade level. The biggest event of the year, Ocean’s 23 Spring Auction and Student Showcase, raised over $375,000 for technological upgrades to our 1949 gymnasium to the 21st century.
This year, our Campus Ministry Team hosted 10 overnight retreats culminating in more than 600 hours of Faith Formation meetings and more than 85% student participation at each grade level. More than 150 students supported formation on campus by being retreat leaders, Big Cat leaders and supported our 7 Sunday Night Holy Hours, where students went deep on faith-sharing, reflection, and fellowship.
