ZEN
2021 TERM 1
The project is a multi-unit housing development accommodating a mix of household types. The project requires three residential dwellings, a communal area shared by occupants and a public cafe on the site (20x25m) located at 53 and 55 Georgina Street, Newtown, Sydney. The key objective of the design is to be adaptable to occupants, the local context and climate. The design encompasses the idea of ZEN, a Japanese word meaning peace and harmony. Three dwellings are unique in the spatial sense to fit different types of householders while they also present consistence through the form to achieve “being as a whole“ within the site. The elements of the design, such as the facade, are flexible and adjustable to provide occupants chances to control and balance their living environment, including social interaction thermal comforts.

CITY
The urban scheme is to use the project as a key node that connects three vital precincts (history, nature and culture). It can transform the site from a destination to an experience and greatly influence the public and society, indicated through the new bridge linking the Parramatta river and the noticeable form that can be perceived from outside.
