CONGRATULATIONS!

On behalf of the Royal College of Music’s Council, Directorate, professorial, teaching and administrative staff, it is a great pleasure to welcome you to this 2024 Graduation Ceremony. We take huge pride in your achievements, and hope that you will carry the memory of this special occasion with you as you leave the RCM to become global ambassadors for the College and for the future of music.

I am delighted to report that the Royal College of Music has been ranked the Global No. 1 institution for Performing Arts for the third consecutive year, and has also taken the inaugural top spot for Music in the 2024 QS World University Rankings by Subject. The RCM is a global community and you can feel proud of the College’s international reputation wherever in the world your career takes you.

RCM musicians continue to shine on world-leading concert stages, including a stunning performance of Messiaen’s Turangalîla-symphonie at the Royal Festival Hall in May. We look forward to the Royal College of Music’s BBC Prom on 25 August, which was one of the fastest-selling Proms of the season. These exceptional performance opportunities are just a small part of the RCM’s unique educational experience. Those graduating today join generations of students who have forged their artistic careers at the RCM, including some of the most acclaimed figures in music.

This ceremony represents not the end of your connection with the Royal College of Music, but the beginning of a new chapter. I share this pivotal moment with you as I reach the end of my 19 years as Director, which have truly been a joy. I hope that you will join me in keeping in touch with the College, maintaining the friendships you have made here, and being an active advocate for the Royal College of Music as you inspire future generations.

I wish you all a happy and fulfilling future.
