uring the course of my career in the arts, I’ve spent time
as a professional musician, composer, concert manager and photographer. So, eventually, it was a natural step for me to combine all these. When I was young, I met the great music photographer David Redfern at a jazz festival in Wales. I was intrigued by how he always seemed to appear from the shadows at just the right moments, keeping well apart from the rest of the press photographers. So, it was with him in mind that I took my own cameras to a jazz concert in Bristol a few years ago, a concert being given by an old friend of mine, the trumpeter Tom Arthurs (pictured here).
