HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS WITHIN YOURSELF, ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR, OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? I experienced suicidal thoughts twice in my life. The first time was due to medication I was taking which had side effects of suicidal thoughts. Imagine being ill with the flu, taking medicine prescribed to you in an attempt to feel better, but only to feel much worse both physically and mentally. In 2016, that was a reality for me, and became one of the scariest times in my life.

HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. I wasn't able to control the incoming thoughts, but I was able to suppress them as best as I could. My second encounter with suicidal thoughts came during a time where life was becoming skewed in several aspects of my life. Even with a strong personal relationship with God, I found myself dancing with doubt due to financial issues, relationship issues, people turning on me, and the feeling that I "failed" in life because I wasn't where I wanted to be. There was one instance where I was going to close my eyes and drive into a busy intersection. Just as I approached the intersection, I closed my eyes, but God wouldn't allow me to accelerate. After a few seconds, I opened my eyes and realized that God has a bigger purpose for me than I could imagine.

WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? What I learned from that experience was that it's not up to us; it's up to God. The Lord's Prayer says "Thy Will Be Done", not my will be done. We're just here. God is in control.

I lost my father to suicide the day before my 23rd birthday in 2016. I also dealt with suicidal thoughts off and on. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. I’ve had a lot of setbacks mainly linked from his suicide. The process I went through was substance abuse, mainly, denial, hostility, and aggression. WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? My father; alone. He was my biggest fan of my music. He actually booked my first ever studio time when I was 16. WHAT IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL SONG YOU'VE MADE, AND WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT? “Life Goes On” was my first single that I actually released legitimately; including a music video. I wrote it first as a letter to my father saying everything I’ve been wanting to say to him since he left. I ended up making it rhyme, and when I first heard the beat, it was over. When I first heard my voice on that song, I cried tears of joy. It was as if my soul was finally free.

DAOSHIZ

"...I needed to do more than just saying the right things to say." HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE YOU A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO SUICIDE?

WHO IS DAOSHIZ?

I can honestly say I haven’t, but I know people that have depression and was told that they felt like they were stuck in a dark place.

Born and raised in Camden, NJ, Daoshiz started rhyming at age 12. He loves the art of it and he writes almost every day. Years went by and he wanted to rap with the best of them. He worked with legends in the game; Edidon and Young Noble (the Outlawz) and Cee knowledge legendary (Digable Planets) just to name a few. He was in and out of jail almost his whole life. Now, he’s doing life in this music.

HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. It affected me in so many ways. I feel responsible. My mother was going through some things when she told me she felt alone. I just gave her a hug and said to her that she was not alone. WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? That really put me in a position where I needed to do more than just saying the right things to say. The greatest thing I took from that was that no matter what people go through, never ignore the signs. When my mother passed away, I felt like I failed her. WHAT IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL SONG YOU'VE MADE AND WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT? The meaningful song I’ve done was, and still is, “Stories”. They tell the story of one that is self-structured and why we reflect what's going on with the world today from bullying to the color of your skin.

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? As A youth dealt with depression and suicide thoughts due to environment. The emotional process was long because my household was abusive in ways. It affected the way I saw myself and how I believed others saw me. I was angry. Like a super Saiyan or something. Felt like no one cared and the world wouldn't miss me if I were gone. I dealt with depression and self esteem issues through writing songs and playing sports. My biggest take away was Jesus. And loving myself as my saviour does. Music was the ONE thing I was good at. My muse. My outlet. My Haven.

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? Yes, I have dealt with suicidal thoughts when I was younger and I thank God I am not a suicide survivor. Unfortunately, I have experienced the loss of a loved one due to suicide. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. Death affects everyone differently, and in my case it saddened me, made me depressed but most of all angry. It saddened me deeply, but, on the flip side, it made me go harder and never want to to give up because life is too precious. We are all here for a special reason. WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? Reaching out. I reached out for moral and emotional support to my mom and others. That assisted with my understanding of life and death. I used my imagination to deal with it, and I expressed that through my music. WHAT IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL SONG YOU'VE MADE AND WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT? “Have U Eva” is a song about being without. It’s a song about being able to live and be happy without certain things and being powered by nature. Sometimes being without is having more and gives you more. This song just came to me like a message from God. In my single “Flavor Flav” there’s a line where I say, “Witnessing horrible happenings still can’t believe this is happening through it all I’m still imagining better days. I’ll pursue it. I’m passionate”. That’s how I’ve lived my life and have made it this far by using my imagination; which is the beginning of everything. The mind is power.

Crystal, also known as, Crystal C, is an independent artist that grew up in Houston, Texas. She started writing at the age of 10 years old after a tragedy that she went through, and it changed her life. She grew up singing in a church choir which was called Missouri City Church of Christ. At the age of 19, Crystal recorded her first song with Ju Fresh from Mo City, Texas. The song is titled “True Hip Hop”. She always watched performers such as Beyoncé, Monica, and Keisha Cole. She always pictured herself being on television putting on a show in front of a big crowd. After another tragedy years later, which broke her down completely, Crystal decided to stay strong and continue her music with the help of her mom, god-parents, god-sister, big brothers Bruce, Brandon, and her best-friend Krystal; staying by her side. She dropped her first video title “Betrayed” and is now working alongside Slidin Ent. as an independent artist. She hopes to get her story heard some day and put on a big performance.

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? Yes, growing up in Texas was really tough for me, especially without a father figure, mom on drugs, and dealing with sexual abuse. You’re out looking for love in the wrong places and end up being in an abusive relationship. It had gotten to a point where I lost myself. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. I felt like no one loved me, and I didn’t want to be in this world anymore. I was going through sadness, depression, and I would smile on the outside but feel totally different on the inside. I would pray and write my music. This helped me through a lot of my days. WHAT'S YOUR BIGGEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? The biggest thing I learned, with dealing with this experience, is that looks can be deceiving. Pay attention to the signs, never fall, and put your trust in a man/woman so quick. Never lower your standards just to please someone. Do what makes you happy WHAT IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL SONG YOU'VE MADE AND WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT? I have a song titled “Betrayed”. The reason behind that song is the most meaningful because the motivation came from my abusive relationship. There were times I wanted to give up, but I kept pushing.

Who is Rflxwon? Artist, Songwriter, Visionary, Businessman, Activist, and Community Leader these are just a few titles to describe the phenomenon that is Reflxwon. Limitless lyrical abilities hitting every end of the spectrum, he navigates through fun and creative, to inspirational and profound lyrics, taking us through an eargasmic journey. He demonstrates dynamic performance energy, and a mesmerizing look that enhances the entertainment experience of all those fortunate to witness his greatness, he exudes, and yet redefines true artistry in Hip Hop. It’s no doubt, his lyrics are SICK, “Pardon my French but I’m Haitian, and my relation to this rap game is a doctor, not a patient...”, but there’s more to this beast of talent that meets the ear.

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? I've lost loved ones and friends to suicide. Just the exposure to the reality that a human being would willingly take their own life is a sobering concept. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. The age at which a person might be exposed to that type of trauma must be factored in as well. so when it comes to remembering and recalling how suicide can affect people, it can vary. Because as young kids, if you have a parent or a loved one or a mentor take their own life, you may not understand why things like that happen or why God would allow things like that to happen. WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? My greatest takeaway was feeling the loss of a close friend and feeling the loss of a mentor who I shared a special musical bond with. I realized that I would never get to play music with him again. I thought to myself , how bad must that sound have been to make him shoot himself? WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS? I was the second artist ever signed to Thug World Music Group, which is Spice 1, the legendary bay rappers label. I am a Power 92.3 freestyle champion in Arizona. I am affiliated with the legendary funk group mandrill since its conception and founding. I've been part of the Universal Hip Hop Museum West Coast chapter and liaison for Arizona, Nevada, and California.

"...I grow from it everyday."

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE YOU A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO SUICIDE? While I've never been a person to have suicidal thoughts, I've lost some people that I hold in very-high regard to it. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. It will have a life-long affect on me simply because I try to see the good in people. Whether it’s family or not, to know that life was cut short for them, by them, doesn't sit too well with me mentally or emotionally. To describe this the best way possible, I grow from it everyday and have a better handle on life in all facets.

WHO IS SOUTH MAINE? South-Maine is a person with a vision for his business and music. He understands well that nothing can be guaranteed in the music industry. This fact leads him to take a further step to make sure that the new single he produced can be widely accepted and spread to the masses in a relatively short time. He collaborates with Ingrooves/Universal Music Group, and creates a great deal with them. The hip-hop singer is really looking forward to reaping the fruits of his labor.

HAVE YOU EVER DEALT WITH SUICIDAL THOUGHTS/DEPRESSION WITHIN YOURSELF? ARE A SUICIDE SURVIVOR OR HAVE LOST SOMEONE TO IT? Yes, I have. I've attempted suicide 3 times In my life. I'm ashamed to say so but it's true. Yes, I have dealt with the pain of losing people close to me to suicide. My kid’s mom was the hardest to deal with. My kids suffer to this day since it happened, but we do our best to get through it. HOW HAS IT AFFECTED YOU? DESCRIBE THE EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL PROCESS YOU WENT THROUGH. Well .. it has definitely taught me to see the brighter things in life. When it gets dark, you look at the stars right? I basically was able to apply the same thing to life. Sometimes the little things mean the most, and sometimes God puts things in your path that you HAVE to go through in order to become who you're meant to be; you know? WHAT'S YOUR GREATEST TAKE AWAY FROM IT? My greatest take away from it is there's a lot of things that are put in our path but what counts is what you learn from it and how you bounce back. Nothing in life is easy, but it'll be worth it. WHAT IS THE MOST MEANINGFUL SONG YOU'VE MADE AND WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND IT? Well, my biggest, most meaningful song is my newest track on my new album coming out April 20th titled Still I Rise feat. MyaLynn. That track is most definitely one of my best tracks yet. The title in itself speaks for itself. Basically, no matter what life has thrown at me, I still rise with the help from the strength that my God blesses me with daily and the strength my babies give me. They're my main motivation in life.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO IMPACT THE YOUTH? "My goal is to teach the youth how to create their own job. I understand that college isn't for everyone as well as warehouses are not for everyone, so, it is important for us to teach our children skills or trades that can propel them into entrepreneurship." - Brink Young "I would like to impact the youth in a more positive light. To help them understand their environments and CONQUER the demons within them. To allow them to have a faith and belief that THEY too can make it. All while being schooled in grass cutting for snakes in the yard. In other words, I want to Teach and Lead through my platform." - Krys Barry "I want the youth to know that you can accomplish anything in life. Put your time, your dedication, your love, and your energy into whatever you want to be in life. Don't let anybody tell you that you are not good enough. You are good enough. Chase your dreams. Do what you love and love doing it. With my music, you can relate and know that you can conquer anything no matter how bad it may look." SmouhhhOperator "All I would like to say to anyone that’s going through a tough time is that no matter what, keep pushing. Write a book, a song, poetry, or whatever it may be to let your thoughts out. If it wasn’t for the good man upstairs and the music, I probably wouldn’t have made it. Never let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do." - Crystal C

"I would love to impact the youth of all ages and color who have experienced or given negative energy. Those who have suicidal thoughts, and who don't have family. One thing that I have taken from this is that blood doesn't necessarily make you family. We can love one another and learn to move accordingly on a positive note. It's very important to journal your thoughts; it's therapeutic. Also, it's very important to talk to other people so that we can eliminate suicide, negative energy, homicide, and things of that nature. We have to learn to channel those negative energies and thoughts into something that we love. For me, it's writing. For me, it's music, and it's good music. I have a mixture of everything in my arsenal. Something you could dance to, something you can cry to, but it's all feel good music. I just want to have a positive effect on the world so that when the good Lord does call me home, my footsteps will be embedded across the clouds in the sky. Learn and Love who YOU ARE." - Blacc Khaleaf "Music is the answer. I want my music to inspire our youth to live happier lives, and to believe in themselves. To use all the obstacles that life throws at them and turn them into positives. Through my music and workouts I want to motivate and inspire our youth and show them ways in which they can strengthen their minds, bodies and souls." - King Brostar "I want to impact the youth with positivity through my music. I want to give them songs that’s easy to relate to, yet, have the mainstream sound with my own little twist on it. Every song I have has a story behind it." - JSlave

"I would hope to make an impact by staying true to who I am. I would want them to understand not disrespect or belittle women. This is why I create so many records about relationships and what they mean to me." - South Maine "The impact I want to put on the youth is that A LONE WOLF IS BETTER OFF WITHOUT THE PACK!" Daoshiz "My message to the youth would be, BE yourself. Be the BEST version of yourself. Don't worry about what the next person is doing or saying. You will always have trials and tribulations but at the end of the day, just know if God brings you to it, He will see you through it. I'm living proof of that. Always remember there's always a light at the end of the dark tunnel, and sunshine and rainbows after the storm." - Native Kyng (NK) "I would like to show the youth, by example, that it is very crucial to take control of your life in every way. Be your own Boss, grow your own foods, build more bridges than you burn, and to always know your rights." - Benji "I would like to just be a positive, vibrant, and energetic example to the youth. It's not only about being young in the music industry....but about aging youthfully when it comes to the industry; if that make sense. I would love to impact the youth by reminding them that music, art ,creation, life, fun, health, and technology are not simply monopolized by the young; through my music and through the messages contained in my music, through the light, the dark, and the shades of grey. Just remind them that we are not enemies. We are here as the experienced elders to simply guide and enjoy while watching the next generation as we protect them and share our love; the love and power of our culture." - Reflxwon

"Be team you. Build your self-love to the point where if someone were to ever ask you 'If you could be anyone in the world, who would you be?'... that your answer is 'Me'. It's not an easy journey, but, I promise you, it is your greatest one yet.

If you've endured losses, don't rush your healing but just know they can't live unless it's through you now. You are a part of what's left of them. Do not let that go to waste. Do this life thing big because you only have one. It's cliche, but we have what they don't now. Live it. It's ok to fall. It's ok to fail. It's also ok to forgive yourself. Give yourself that permission, and that little evil voice inside you that tells you all those lies...that enemy..... don't let that enemy outlive you."
