Sun International Appoints a Chief Operating Officer: Hospitality

South African Hospitality, Gaming and Leisure Group, Sun International, has appointed Graham Wood as their Chief Operating Officer: Hospitality. He assumed his new role from 1 February 2020.

WOOD RETURNS to the Sun International Group after 12 years. During that time, he served as Managing Director of Hotels at the Tsogo Sun Group for five years before forming GIW Consulting, specialising in strategic Hospitality and Tourism consulting and asset management services. Wood joins Sun International from Valor Hospitality Partners Africa, where he held the position of Managing Director.

Announcing the appointment, Sun International CEO Anthony Leeming said, “We are delighted to welcome Graham back to Sun International. With his valuable Hospitality experience, business acumen and strong leadership skills, I have every confidence that we have the right person to accelerate growth across our Hospitality & Resorts division.” Wood joined Sun City as a project accountant in 1996. By 2001, he was appointed Regional Financial Manager for the Group’s Resorts division. He was promoted to Director of Operations: Sun City Resort in 2003, and to the position of Divisional Director (Designate) for Resorts between 2007 and 2008, when he left to join Tsogo Sun.

In his new position, he will be responsible for Sun International’s Hospitality segment, including marketing and sales functions for all of the company’s South African Hotels and its two remaining African properties in Nigeria and Swaziland.

Commenting on his appointment, Wood said, “I am tremendously excited to be back at Sun International. We have an enviable portfolio of premium Hotels & Resorts and we are all energised to enhancing Sun’s reputation as the leading Hospitality, Gaming and Leisure Group in South Africa.”
