NOTIFICATION OF A POSITIVE CASE OF COVID-19 When the school learns of a positive case of COVID-19, we will promptly notify parents of the class with the positive case, inform faculty and staff, and any others deemed necessary through contact tracing (see additional details on contact tracing to the right). If a student or faculty member tests positive for COVID-19, all students and faculty in that class are encouraged to wear face masks for 10 days.
COVID-19 TESTING Please always consult with your healthcare provider any time COVID-19 is suspected. Testing at the right time with the right test provides invaluable information and helps to keep our school community safe.
PCR Testing PCR testing remains the most accurate test in detecting COVID-19. When any member of your family has an outstanding PCR test, students may attend school pending the test result but must be masked. Asymptomatic individuals should PCR test on day 5 after known exposure, with the last date of exposure marked as day 0.
Rapid/At-Home Testing Rapid/at-home tests are best used in symptomatic individuals.
CONTACT TRACING PROCEDURES The school reports all positive COVID-19 cases reported by students, faculty, staff, or vendors to the Florida Department of Health and assists in contact tracing by completing the following steps: Identifying potential close contacts of the positive case by contact tracing within the school building, based on the contagious period of the positive case and providing contact tracing information to the COVID-19 Task Force. Contagious period: An individual is considered contagious 48 hours prior to their onset of symptoms or positive test (if asymptomatic). We use this timeframe for tracing any close contacts of a positive individual. For example, if a person develops symptoms on Sunday, they were contagious on Friday and our contact tracing would begin with that date. Close Contact is defined by the CDC as being within 6 ft of a positive individual for 15 minutes or more (cumulatively over a 24 hour period).
In identifying close contacts of the case, the school will check the following to ensure anyone potentially exposed is notified: Teachers/Care and Connect guest teachers Classroom (collaborative learning groups, partnerships) Resource classes Math Acceleration Academic Support and Auxiliary providers RITA Academies Lunch/Recess Sports
After contact tracing is completed, the COVID-19 Task Force will notify close contacts to inform them of the positive case and provide information regarding exposure to COVID-19. When there is a positive case in a class, all parents in the class will receive an email informing them of the case. Detailed line forms are completed and submitted to the Florida Department of Health.
CAMPUS SAFETY PROTOCOLS Masking - Masking is optional for students and fully vaccinated faculty, staff, and visitors. Distancing - Desks are spaced three to six feet apart or in pods. Students are spaced at tables. Students keep safe distance while moving to classes and around campus. Hand Hygiene - Students should wash their hands frequently and foam in and out of classrooms. Large Gatherings - RPDS will continue to observe universal masking for large gatherings at this time. All students, faculty, staff, and visitors must wear a face mask during Chapel and Rise n’ Shine services, regardless of vaccination status. Students should still bring a mask with them to school for situations where they are deemed necessary (i.e. Chapel, Rise n’ Shine, etc.). The school will continue to have disposable masks available, should a student need one to attend a large gathering. Indoor Singing - Students are required to wear disposable masks while singing indoors.
GENERAL GUIDANCE FOR PARENTS Please take time to discuss your masking preferences with your child so they are aware of their responsibility on campus. We will continue to partner with you and support your preference. Keep children home if they are not feeling well or have run a fever in the last 24 hours. Please be transparent and notify the school if COVID-19 is suspected or confirmed in anyone in your home. When any member of your family has an outstanding PCR test, students may attend school pending the test result but must be masked. If your household receives a positive test result, students should quarantine immediately.
FIELD TRIP PROTOCOLS All students and faculty are required to wear masks on buses. RPDS will adhere to the health and safety protocols of the facility they are visiting.
AT-A-GLANCE WHEN TO QUARANTINE OR ISOLATE Symptomatic Student - Students should stay home if displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 and seek guidance from their healthcare provider. Household Member Testing - Students can still attend school but must mask indoors until a negative test result is received. Household Member Positive - Please see above for Exposure to a Positive Case. Student Testing - Students with an outstanding COVID-19 test should remain home until a negative test result is received. Student Positive - If a student receives a positive COVID-19 test, the student should isolate immediately. Please notify the school promptly. Out of an abundance of caution, RPDS cannot allow a negative test result to override a positive test result.
