While the first half of Ian Hill Racing Productions (IHRP) season’s events were plagued by Sunday rain outs – the RPM Magazine Smackdown6 powered by Maxima Racing Oil and RM Racing Lubricants had no rain in sight!
In fact, Mother nature gave us a whole batch of hot and sticky weather to deal with instead, but we’ll take it!
Overall entries were up for SD6 and the Outlaws and Limited28s class entries came to lay down some serious horsepower! SD6 heads-up classes, as all Smackdown events, feature No-time heads up grudge style classes. Outlaw allows any chassis and tire size if the body dimensions are stock, other wise 10.5w is the limit. Limited28s require OEM roof and quarters as well as stock style front suspension and stock body dimensions. Both of the SD6 premier classes allow any power combo and any rear suspension.
Outlaw saw Frankie Doldo take the Doldo/Longo Racing newly built third gen x-pro stock Camaro to the winner circle over RVW racer Enzo Pecchini. Class heavy hitter, Brent Stein and his beautiful C7 Vette had some issues with the trans earlier in the
day and was put on the trailer by Enzo when he pushed through the beams in the semis.
Fourteen entries showed up for Limited28s and wow, did they put on a show! Mat Brunette’s gorgeous Fox Body was the talk of the town in the early morning pit tour. Nico Cechet’s Chevelle was back out for another swing at the heavyweight belt. Past SD Champion Adam Bastarache’s beautiful X-X275 Mustang was also on the property! Canada Heads Up Nitrous hitter Rob Orofiamma and his Fox Body Mustang were found sitting quietly in the corner of the pits awaiting first round testing Saturday morning. Don Mitchell’s halftrack wheelie put on the show of the quarter final round as Wajdy Kahlil drove around him for the win. In the semis, Rob Orofiamma took out
Mark Roberts took his heavy Chevy ½ ton sky high, and we mean SKY high with all 4 tires off the ground…he returned with a big smile and no substantial damage.
Worst part was that nobody got the photo for Mark’s wall!
There was no shortage of sky-high action as Jeff Vanbeek’s S10 6.0 Index truck hangs the front-end at hit and Don Mitchell’s Limited28s Fox rides the bumper at half-track!
Running on a 275 radial, Matt Brunette’s Fox Body shows off the radial separation. Watch for Brunette, running out of Quebec, to make some noise once the new car is worked in.
Rob Wade’s wicked 66 Chevy II’s diff locked up mid run throwing him into a 200ft slide. He somehow kept it off the wall
The Doldo/Longo Racing newly built third gen x-pro stock Camaro is nothing short of stunning! And they took their first championship with it at Smackdown6!
Wajdy with a holeshot and Nico drove his Chevelle around the spinning Adam Bastarache to find his way to the finals. It looked like both the Mustang and the Chevelle left the starting line together, but Nico Cechet couldn’t maintain traction as Rob Orofiamma drove pin-straight down Broadway to take the win!
Street275 was back in full force with Steph Mallais making it to second round after Canada heads Up Rob Wade’s 66 Chevy II had the diff lock up on him during his run. After sliding on his radials for what seemed like over 200ft, he
was able to keep it off the wall and finally came to rest in the middle of his lane! Jason Gallant took out Sean Devine on a holeshot in the semis and Gord Hartleib made it to the finals via a competition single. Jason won the Street275 heavyweight belt by about a car length after both cars left the line with almost identical reaction times.
King of the Street Bikes saw Mike Pereira take out Murray Lonsbary in final as both made it to their first KOTS final round.
Unit5 Components 63” Wheelbase Bike
class had the fastest 16 year old on a bike in Canada – Will Fogan – take out veteran Stock Wheelbase bike Champion and current record holder Damian Tong for the win!
The annual Real Street Car Shootout is a racer and fan favorite of Smackdown, and it was no different for 2022! All entries made it through the 15 minute power cruise around the facility and directly into lane 1 for round one of competition. With the likes of 2022 Champion Dominic Mandarello and 2022 runner up Timo Poulos in the lanes mixing it up with CHU
Street275 hitter Bryon Terveld, OSO’s Mark Roberts, Paul Gaspar’s updated Fox Body, Brian Howard’s fresh boosted S10 amongst so many other badass hot rods, it was not easy to pick a favorite for anyone!
Mark Roberts had his truck running on rails throughout the day and in the quarters he carried the wheels about 6” off the track for at least 150 feet. Then, in the semis with slightly better air and a stickier track, Mark’s power helped the heavy Chevy pickup on its way to the stars! Mark pulled a huge wheelie and effectively had all four tires right off the track with the
Brent Stein brought his amazing 6-cylinder C7 Vette to play in Outlaw. Unfortunately a starting line issue put it on the trailer early, but Brent had it back up for a few exhibition runs later in the day.

Chuck Nagy’s Super Stock modified Berretta rode the wheelie bars to the won in Saturdays Stock/ Super Stock $8000 Shootout!
Street275 champion Jason Gallant dangling the fronts for 60 feet on his way to the Winner’s Circle.
Splash has been around since the start of street car drags in Ontario, Canada and is a threat whenever he lines up.
Ray Griffin’s ProCharged Chevy II running through side exit Zoomies has a wicked sound all its own.
Will Fogan on the Unit5 Components 63” wheel base bike rides to another win.
Two-time Real Street Car Shootout Champion Dominic Mandarello returns from the mandatory street cruise, not knowing that in just a few hours he would take the win yet again!
rest of the truck near vertical! Timo Poulos took out Bryon Terveld who clearly treed Timo at the hit. Dominic was headed to the finals in his second straight year as he took out Mark Roberts after Mark’s huge wheelie. In a total repeat from 2022 it was Domenic over Timo with all out horsepower as Timo left him standing at the tree, however, as in all heads up classes – he who gets there first wins and this time it was all Domenic as his Fox Body drove around Timo on the big end for the win and the Heavyweight Belt!
