LOVE, LEGENDS AND FAIRY TALES Love, legends and fairy tales have long served as an inspiration to composers and, in this spellbinding concert, Lionel Bringuier (pictured) conducts some of the most beautiful of such inspirations. Including Dvořák’s captivating Cello Concerto, brimming with tantalising tunes and mesmerising motifs, performed by outstanding soloist Daniel Müller-Schott, as well as the alluring stories of Arabian Nights, brought to life in Rimsky-Korsakov’s timeless masterpiece – Scheherazade.

Principal Associate Conductor Alexander Shelley conducts this charming programme, which includes Korngold’s Violin Concerto with the brilliant Jennifer Pike (pictured), and Dvořák’s much-loved Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’. This classical favourite, rich with American flavours and themes of homesickness and longing, features the affecting Largo theme – which you may recognise as the heart-warming theme of the Hovis® TV advert!

The RPO is thrilled to welcome back Rafael Payare (pictured) for Mahler’s turbulent Symphony No.5. From the despairing first movement to the triumphant finale, via the heart-wrenching Adagietto scored for strings and harp – this monumental masterwork is simply unmissable. Also featuring Mozart’s graceful Piano Concerto No.9, considered the prodigy’s first really great writing for piano, with exciting young soloist, Lise de la Salle.

SYMPHONIC MASTERS Legendary violinist Pinchas Zukerman (pictured) performs Mozart’s Violin Concerto No.5, the ‘Turkish’ – famed for its frenzied final movement of melodic leaps, pounding rhythms and percussive strings – and conducts one of the most instantly recognisable classical works: Beethoven’s Symphony No.5. Those first four imposing notes dominate the Symphony, epitomise all that was brilliant about the Classical era, and are still celebrated across concert halls today.

THE FOOD OF LOVE Celebrate the life of William Shakespeare in this unique theatrical evening, narrated by Sir Patrick Stewart (pictured). SEEKING NEW HORIZONS: RHAPSODY ON A THEME OF PAGANINI The legend that the violin virtuoso Niccolò Paganini sold his soul to the devil to become obscenely talented has inspired numerous composers, but the finest variation of the theme is considered to be Rachmaninov’s. Alexander Shelley (pictured) conducts the final instalment of his thought-provoking mini-series, whilst exceptional pianist Vadym Kholodenko performs. Also featuring Manuel de Falla’s evocative Spanish-infused ballet score, The Three-Cornered Hat.
