How we make your kit. Arizona Model Aircrafters (AZM) is a custom kit cutting service. Our digital manufacturing process allows for us to offer models design in a variety of scale sizes using a single source for the original. Most kits are scaled from original 1/4 scale sizes. In a few instances we have several designs of the same model. Some kits are have materials changes from those of the original design in order to maximize the benefit of laser cutting. If we are making one of our kits or doing a custom job for you all of the models start at the scanner. Wide format (up to 60”) scanners accurately digitize large prints for cad work on one of our 2 and 3D workstations. Raw scan of original plans set.
Plans with CAD work for laser and metal cutting plus 3D printing for molds and casting. Wide Format Scanner and Printers
Part Cutting Parts traced from the plans are then fed to the appropriate machine for cutting. The drawings are formatted to work at a variety of scale sizes from 1/12 to full scale size. Plans can also be enlarged for printing at width up to 60” at any length.

3D Printing. AZM makes models and casting masters with several types of 3D and Stereo Printing systems. Using both Solid Works and Solid Edge we develop solid models directly from the computer. Usable parts direct from the machine or tooling for resin and fiberglass work are possible.

A “Last Word” about the Designs Arizona Model Aircrafters manufactures custom aircraft model kits utilizing the creative talents of a number of different designers. A refection of the original designer, each kit is unique in its layout and the included accessories. You’ll need to refer to the individual descriptions of each model as to what is specifically included in each of the different kits, keeping in mind that there will be some variations depending on scale. Typically, we include the laser cut wood and plastic parts, sticks stringers and music wire, wheels, cockpit, machine guns, replicated non-working engines, spun-aluminum cowls or spinners, and, in most cases, custom brass and aluminum hardware fittings. Many of the models come with historical documentation and color plates. We DO NOT include builder preference, or individual preferred, construction materials which are easily obtained from your local hobby shop or hobby supplier. These materials would include: cable or wire for rigging, screws and bolts, covering materials. The reason for this is that everyone has different building skills and desired uses for the finished model. “sport scale” builder will, for example, build and detail their model differently than someone building the model for competition. Our intention is to provide modelers with a“one-stop” shopping approach to scale kit construction to include; hard-to-find scale kit accessories. Once again, we leave the “preference” type items to each individual builder knowing the vast choices that exist. Focke Wulf Fw 56 This handsome hawk-like parasol was flown by WWI flying ace Ernest Udet and it was a star aerobatic performer during the “Golden” 30's at U.S. air shows. Nimble and sturdy, it later trained most Luftwaffe fighter pilots. Steve Stratt took 1st place in scale at the KRC 1994; however, he later developed the new 2 inch scale version for an Astro 40 Cobalt geared system which made it more powerfully agile. This kit is more for the experienced builder. Appearing late in WWI, the parasol wing Morane A-1 was not a politically correct airplane for its day, it was in fact a "monoplane"! As every one knew a monoplane could never be built strong enough to withstand the stresses of aerial combat and the fact that the A-1 was fast, easy to fly and highly maneuverable had nothing to do with it. It was still a monoplane and as such was destined to obscurity due to its supposed lack of structural integrity. However, after the war the Morane A-1 did turn a few heads in aviation circles when Alfred Fronval set a record for the most consecutive loops preformed in a single flight. He did 1,111 inside loops with his Morane A-1, not bad for an aircraft deemed structurally inadequate

This kit is not for a beginner! One of the finest flying aircraft of WW1, the Sopwith Pup earned the affection of all the pilots who flew her. The 1/3 scale model is a faithful reproduction of this early aircraft. This model is exact scale in every detail. Rib spacing, tail size, shape, and everything about the model is as accurate as can be made. Nothing has been added or taken away. Even though the model is exact scale, it is easily taken apart for transportation. Only about 10 minutes are required for field assembly and less for take down. To help speed up the construction, there are 20 different die-cut sheets, several jig-cut and shaped parts. Much of the complicated work has already been done for you. Spoked Wheel Kits Arizona Model Aircrafters offers spoked wheel kits that are lightweight and sturdy, and vary in size from 1 inch to 10 inch diameters. Wheel sizes ranging from 1” to 3 ¼” are equipped with machined hubs. All wheels are finely detailed, light in weight, and come complete with soft black rubber tires. Larger diameter wheels include those with diameters ranging from 3” to 10”. These wheels feature CNC machined aluminum scale rims, CNC machined brass hubs, and they're available in a 40 spoke German/French pattern or the 64 spoked British pattern. (Other patterns are available on request) These wheels are easy to assemble with silver solder and they come complete with directions and illustrations. All wheel kits can be assembled in a variety of configurations suitable to your scale project.

Lewis These guns are built from a laser cut kit. Shown here is a full-scale version; however, we offer the guns as small as 1/12th scale. We offer a choice of mounts and barrel types with this kit.
Spandau 7.62 cal These kits come in pairs and feature “feed and dump chutes” Optional solid brass ammunition and a laser cut leather feed belt.
Vickers The kit comes in pairs with “feed and dump chutes”, Option the 10 rounds of brass ammunition, and a laser cut feed belt.
Vintage Engine Kits Vintage engine kits are available for scratch builders. These replicas, standard in our airplane kits, are available for purchase separately. Offered in scale sizes of 1/3rd, 1/4th, 1/6th & 1/12, these kits feature machined and laser cut parts for the highest level of detail available to the modeler. Kit components are made from wood, acrylic, plastic, and metal. Assembly information includes detailed line drawings, and photographs of the actual engines. Mercedes: This kit includes documentation to assemble the engine in a variety of configurations. Kit contents vary by scale. Crankcases are build up construction.
Beardmore The Beardmore kit is 1/6th scale. The engine pictured was built by Jack McGeough of Dallas, Texas. Kit feature built up crankcases machined cylinders and detailed photo set. Laser cut details make for a detailed build.
Gnome & LeRhone These 7 or 9 cylinder rotary kits are manufactured exclusively by Arizona Model Aircrafters in 1/12th, 1/6, 1/4th, and 1/3rd scale. All kits are made from laser cut basswood, plywood, and plastic parts. These engines are very light in construction and can be made to rotate.
New 1/12th scale size for Electric Power All engine kits are suitable for use in flying models or built simply to display! These engine kits are made from laser cut and milled parts, and come complete with color assembly plans. The Mercedes, Daimler, and Beardmore engines contain all needed/necessary parts to build a complete engine as shown in the picture. The 1/6th scale LeRhone is a plastic molded kit produced by Williams Brothers, and is a complete engine with a display stand included. The 1/4th and 1/3rd scale LeRhone kits do not contain parts for the rear crankcase and carburetor assembly, but are intended to mount on flying models. Arizona Model Aircrafters (Digital Design LLC) is a custom kit manufacturer, and as such, we produce our kits and accessories to order for our customers. It is our policy to bill against your credit card at the time we begin production of your order. Typically delivery is six to eight weeks from the date of order processing, however at times it can be longer. Always remember to include your area code and phone number with all orders! Return Refund Policy. All of our products are designed and produced to very high standards. If you have a problem, please call (602) 971-5646 for assistance or possible replacement or refund. We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase; we also understand that returns/replacements/refunds do happen. We stand by our products. We can not, however, consider any product for return/replacement or refund unless you call us, describe the problem and receive a return authorization. Returned items will require a re-stocking fee of 20% of the kit purchase price Opened packages may be higher. No returns/refunds after 30 days. Plans sets, printed fabric covering and custom cut and assembled parts are not returnable.
Shipping Most products kits are sent via priority mail. We can offer FedEx at your request for an additional fee. For foreign shipments we recommend Airmail priority or FedEx. Business Office
