NORBERT DELMAN RESIDENCY EXHIBITION Sweat / Suffer / Success 25 October - 25 November 2014 Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, 21 Hawthornvale, Edinburgh, EH6 4JL Mon-Sat 10-5, closed Sunday Free admission Exhibition webpage: http://bit.ly/1wFwVdM *ONLY 2 WEEKS LEFT TO SEE THIS SENSATIONAL EXHIBITION!* The RSA and Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop are delighted to present Norbert Delman – exhibiting for the first time in Scotland – showcasing the culmination of this year's RSA/ESW International Residency programme. Delman's practice is varied, often manifesting as sculpture, film, sound or photography but its origins are rooted in a performative or interventionist act. Over the last three months he has been adhering to a strict dietary and exercise regime, exploring the physical and mental commitment behind the ideologies of improvement, strength and weakness in fitness and body building culture. Norbert Delman is the current RSA/ESW Polish Resident. He has been in residence for three months developing new work to be exhibited in both Scotland and Poland. Born in Warsaw, 1989, where he now lives and works, Delman graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Miroslaw Balka’s workshop in 2014. He also studied Fine Arts at University College, Falmouth in 2010. Working across a range of mediums (performance, sculpture, moving image and installation) Delman is concerned with illustrating the tensions and anxieties of contemporary experience. He has exhibited in Poland, Hungary, England, Sweden and now Scotland. The RSA/ESW International Residency Award (£6000) is a unique opportunity for a Polish artist to come to Scotland for a 3 month period and use the facilities at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. A relatively new award, previous recipients are Kuba Bakowski and Julita Wojcik. The RSA and ESW are grateful to the Adam Mickiewicz Institute as supporters of the award. -ENDSNotes for editors: About the Royal Scottish Academy: The Royal Scottish Academy of Art & Architecture has a proud tradition of promoting excellence in contemporary art and architecture in Scotland. No

such resource existed then in Edinburgh and we are still a unique provider of sculpture and related visual arts facilities in the city. Originally artist-led, ESW now has in place management systems which ensure that our artistic development is informed directly by artists and our members. This means that the organisation remains in touch with contemporary practice and responsive to new developments and directions, and that ESW's services remain relevant to the needs of artists.
