project brÄąef Prague is divided into twenty two unique self governing districts. Each district is respectively possess their own unique identity. The chosen site, Prague 7 is selected as a buffer zone to prevent more urban sprawls happening through Prague 8 . The site is located in the heart of Prague 7. The project aims to revitalize the brownfields and create a landscape which Prague 7 neighbours can benefit from. Prague 7 has a very distinctive urban pattern as several sport facilities are splitted inside of it without having any connection. For this reason, an Olympic Park Masterplan is proposed to revitalize the brownfields and create a landscape for the neighbours as it maintains connectivity between current facilities while introducing new ones. Stragetically, using existing sports facilities will help Prague to use Olympics funds more on creating landscape than building new facilities. The Olympic masterplan is seen as a strategy to create LEED Neighborhood Development by taking into account walkability, healthy streets, transit-oriented development and smart growth strageties. In order to make this masterplan durable and flexible for post-occupancy, a transformation plan is developed, Legacy Mode 2040. Legacy Mode 2040 masterplan aims to transform Olympic Masterplan into a university campus which will have its high-class sports facilities and landscape which Prague 7 seeks to have. In this way, the masterplan focuses on modular phase strategies.

STAGE - 1 Existing topography and train line

STAGE - 2 Artificial Topography and Harbour Formation

STAGE - 3 Bridge Formation to propose pedestrian Pathways

LOTUS Aquatics Centre is a competition venue designed for PRAHA 2032 Olympic Games. An Harbour Spa is integrated into design to create a public amenity which PRAHA 7 neighbours can benefit from even after the olmpiyc games. The site is used to be an abandoned factory which is located right next to a train line. Thus, in time the site is detached from the neighborhood. To revitalize the site, prevent isolation and create a river experience, LOTUS is prosed. LOTUS blossoms in a post-industrial site like Lotus flowers blossams above muddy waters in order to gather & celebrate different cultures under one roof. In order to achieve this goal, a contrasting landmark is designed. A feather like roof is created in order to highlight circulation layer and filter the light as if spectators are walking inside the water. In order to accentuate water activities, cubes are placed into a feather like composition. Lotus also aims to clean water in landscape terraces & infinity pools and use the cleaned river water in pools . The water canals that are designed for this reason also created a possibility to acces the building by boat. In this way, LOTUS aims to be an eco-friendly competition venue for PRAHA 2032 and a long-lasting landmark.

AN ARTIFICIAL CORAL MOUNTAIN AS A WAY OF LEARNING FROM THE SITE, WITHIN THE SITE....

Alanya Marıne ınstıtute & museum locatıon: Alanya, turkey archıtectural desıgn studıo v advisor professor: Jesus espınoza alvarez ındıvıdual work fall 2018

project brıef Alanya Castle area has a contextual identity with its circulation pattern, topography, layers, texture and colors. In order to protect ıts unique identity of this area, project aims to become a landscape and blend into topography. A marine institute and museum is proposed as educatıonal complexs have potential of transforming its surroundings without an effort. The institute will teach nautical science, marine engineering and nautical architecture to scent the traces of Seljuks The chosen site had an fortification which was chosen to be conserved. In order to keep the sense of place, a museum is integrated to program and the fortification wall is transformed into a circulation element.

FORKS AS A CIRCULATION ELEMENT

FORKS ARE ORGANIZED TO FORM A CIRCULATION PATTERN

BLENDING INTO TOPOGRAPHY IN ORDER TO KEEP INTERVENTION MINIMUM

Main inspiration point was to create an artificial coral mountain as it bites the mountain and blends intotopography. Thus the level of intervention is kept in minimum to protect sense of place.During the site analysis, it is observed Alanya Castla region has an unorganised circulation pattern of forks. The idea was to use forks to create a network of circulation and learn from Alanya’s circulation pattern. The paths are developed both in the exterior and interior parts of the buildings, thus it also becomes an architectural promenade. The promonade defines spaces, provides experiences and contributes to the way in which you understand the spatial characteristics of the complex. Promenade is also a strategy for to transform anchor points into experience.

project brıef This project is a prototype for Community Centre in Reyhanlı for Syrian Refugees. Hosting refugees in Turkey is a very humanitarian and costly challenge. In order to ease the transition process for Syrian refugees, we are proposing this community centre called “Passageway” with an extra program of orphanage. In the site analysis process, we found out in Hatay& Syrian culture, dead-end streets called “Zokmak” are in use to maintain privacy between houses and streets. For this reason, an open but at the same time introverted clusters are proposed to maintain privacy as it is a common desire of Syrian Culture. Main courtyard and sub-courtyards are connected to each other means of main artery . This artery disolves in to many passages to connect community center to close surroundings. The program consists of 3 clusters such as education cluster, service

In order to suggest modularity and rapid construction, 3m x 6m modules are placed into 6m x 6m timber cages above wooden deck islands. In the site analysis stage, It is realized there is a timber factory 15 km away from the site. In order reduce transportation coasts, timber have chosen as main structural material. The timber structure holds the second floors and secondary structure (canopy). To make buildings more stable, pad foundations and wooden decks are preferred. Decks are used to elevate buildings and ease plumbing construction. More over, their geometry defines where possible future development spaces are. The flexibility of decks are increased with moving walls to define extra spaces when there is need.

ORPHANAGE Since it is much harder for orphans to rebuild a life in a different country than their motherland, an orphanage is integrated to community centre. The orphanage uses patios as a circulation strategy while it acts as a play space. In orther to create a vivid atmosphere, pink gabion walls are preferred over grey gabion walls. Underneath the orphanage, a multi-funtional bazaar is proposed to create a space to increase activity with surrounding neighborhoods and create a space for donation trucks.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN SOLUTIONS Water shortage is one of the biggest problem that Reyhanlı is facing in hot and dry summer days. In order to solve this problem, a rainwater harvesting system is designed. artificial rainwater collectiong funnels are designed. The funnels are located in underground bazaar closed withan artificial canopy. Occasionally, small and larger holes are placed on this canopy to place funnels. There are two types of funnels: one filtered with tree and a funnel with smaller radius. Funnel with tree has a radius of 1.75m and it has polycarbonate pipes to collect rainwater, enclosed with mesh fabric to define a space. The second type, has a radius of 0.75m and not only pipes are collection rainwater but it also act as a cone to collect water. As a structural idea, a special truss system is designed to act as a double roof which captures more summer breeze and creates a canopy for summer days.

project brÄąef

This project is designed as a prototype for smart growth and sustainable urban life. The way cohousing projects repeat same type of dwelling units is seen as a problem which forces community to live in same order. However, cohousing projects should remind people that they should protect their own identity while becoming a part of a whole. For this reason, various types of living units are fused in program to recall this idea. Hence, existence of one unit is redefined with respect to existence of adjacent units. Basically, program focuses on alternation of living units through sections. In this way, use of different living units several times creates a balance between order and disorder. This composition also created, many common and private terraces in the design. The flat articulations are based on flexible use that thanks to sliding and partitions wall, flat types enable users to rearrange the flat as the needs of users change in time. Further more, a circulation inferface is defined as an activity layer to increase neighborhood ties and communication. Social areas such as common spaces are distrubuted between residential units. Circulation interface is also supported with microspaces in ground floor due to lackness of dynamic social life. The extra space underneath stairs are transformed into microspaces such as coffee shops and florists. Smarth growth strategies like integrating offices & shops to building program and increasing walkable paths have also been applied. Main program consists of 24 living units, 1 management space, 3 common space, office floor, 4 shops and 1 public terrace. Public terrace is designed as a free space with mezanine floor to host different activities defined by users.

project brÄąef

Interface is perceived as public realm in the virtual world. Adopting interface to architecture realism process is shaped with respect to public areas located across the river such as parks, squares and cycle routes. It is worth to highlight the fact that public spaces are linked with our public interface. The second idea behind the public interface is that our site stands between old part and new part of the city. Thus, public interface between old part and new part of the city will play a vital rol to combine old and new. In this way interface will create a some sort of architectural understanding which is able to retransform its surrounding. Interfaces that we use in social media can be defined as virtual frameworks and this virtual frameworks have no access limitation since they have a public nature. Generally, they lead the users to achieve their aims means of colours and shapes. With this settlement, architectural issues are coded such that use of spaces and circulation are defined with material and colour choices of an interface. Interface is directly linked to parks, dock and public squares located around of it. As park continues inside of the building, the pattern of digital trees inside the structure, reminds us the park with its own unique and virtual identity.
