Me ssag e f r om t he Chairs Dear Georgian Community, Ann and I are so pleased to serve as the Chairs of RSGC’s 50th Anniversary Great School, Great Boys Campaign. We feel privileged to be able to give back to the school that has played such an integral role in our family’s past and will continue to play an important role in our future. Our son Andrew, currently in Grade 12, came to RSGC in Grade 9. Since the moment he arrived, Andrew has been chal-

lenged and inspired by this great

school. We have set an aggressive goal for this campaign because we know that the Georgian community will come together again to guarantee that the College has the state-ofthe-art facility it requires in order to better serve our boys and future Georgians. We understand that there are a lot of worthy causes that do great work, but our family has chosen to support Royal St. George’s College

Dear Friends, As we celebrate Royal St. George’s 50th Anniversary, we look back to honour our Founders, reconnect with alumni, alumni families and old friends of the College. I’m continually hearing Old Boys say: “Look how far our school has come!” Like me, they feel pride for the great school we have become. This milestone is also a time to look forward to the next 50 years. It is our responsibility to strengthen the legacy we inherited from our Founders and ensure that the College continues to develop future Georgians.

I am pleased to announce the 50th Anniversary Great School, Great Boys Campaign, which focuses on financial aid and continuing to improve the College’s facilities. Our strategic plan drives us to ensure an environment that inspires faculty and student, and enables collaboration and innovation. With this in mind, the 50th Anniversary Campaign focuses largely on the renovation of Ketchum Hall. In addition to the facilities improvement plan, we are pleased to announce the Manners Maketh Men Scholarship

and Bursary Fund, named in honour of our first Headmaster Jack Wright. This Great Endowment will honour the intentions of our Founders, providing financial aid and affording the College greater flexibility to fund missionappropriate students. This ambitious $4 million campaign requires the participation of our entire Georgian community. Your participation, however big or small, will make the difference. Sincerely, Stephen Beatty ’86 Headmaster

very school needs a Great Endowment. We want to offer admission to the best boys from all backgrounds; students who would be an excellent fit for the RSGC family and who embody our “Manners Maketh Men” values. Our founding headmaster, Dr. J.L. Wright, proffered the “Manners Maketh Men” credo, which is built on the belief that when boys conduct themselves as gentlemen, all other things fall into place. Fifty years later, the students of

RSGC continue to be well known for their exceptional character. With that in mind, our goal is to attract applicants who may not otherwise be able to afford an independent school education. RSGC currently provides over 10 per cent of boys with a significant amount of financial assistance. We pride ourselves in our diverse student body, which strengthens the community experience of the College. In honour of our first headmaster’s motto, the goal of the new Manners

Maketh Men Scholarship and Bursary Fund is to raise $1,000,000 in order to ensure that the rich tradition of developing true gentlemen is carried on for another 50 years. It has always been in the character of the College to provide for boys who deserve a world-class education. But that can’t be done without a world-class community at its foundation. Scholarships truly make a difference they help many young boys become the exceptional leaders of our future.

“I take my responsibilities to the school most seriously, and I endeavour at all times to be a true Georgian.” — A current student receiving scholarship assistance.

Junior School Rede v el opment Pl an – Phase I Ke tchum Hall Renovation

E

very Great School needs a Great Hall. Ketchum Hall is a special place. The final point of intersection for all Georgians past and present, Ketchum joins the Chapel as the only space at the College shared by all students for the past 50 years. As part of our 50th Anniversary Campaign, we are focusing on Ketchum Hall as the flagship priority for restoration. Our vision is to convert Ketchum from a simple dining hall into a Great Hall – a multipurpose and multifunctional space where students will want to spend their time. The new Ketchum will become a meeting place for both Junior and Senior School students, creating a

greater bond amongst boys of all ages. A greater focus will be placed on food selection, ensuring our young, picky eaters get the nutrition they need for optimal learning. Tye Farrow of Farrow Partnership Architects is leading the project and has facilitated collaborative design sessions with our chef, faculty, staff, Junior and Senior School students, and parents to assure everyone’s needs are met. Not only has Tye’s firm worked on projects for other independent schools, but Tye himself is an alumni parent of two Georgians and is a former Chair of the Board of the College. He understands how to transform our vision into something truly remarkable, all while preserv-

ing Ketchum’s historical significance. The new Ketchum will be a true meeting place with an open, welcoming foyer and a flexible dining area complete with a functional kitchen and permanent servery. The improved kitchen facilities will allow for a variety of food choices and regular access throughout the day to help replenish the nutritional needs of young men during their active daily schedules. It will be wheelchair accessible and have plenty of natural light, with bay windows overlooking the playing field. A fireplace as the focal point will give the space a feeling of grandeur and formality, much like See House. The $3,000,000 Ketchum Hall

renovation is Phase one of the Junior School redevelopment plan, while Phase two will focus on the Junior School itself, making it a more open, warm and functional space for learning. Classroom, meeting and collaborative group workspaces will be maximized, including a Centre for Innovation and independent study areas. The administration offices will be moved to the main floor to make it easier for parents, while allowing staff to look out onto the layby area for safety and security. We continue to invest in our facilities to ensure an optimal learning and community experience for our boys and teachers. Renovations will not disrupt our learning environment.
