RSM World Day 2016
INTRODUCTION RSM World Day is a very special event in RSM’s busy calendar. This year, staff around the world celebrated our fifth RSM World Day – and yet again – our member firms pulled out all the stops to make it a huge success. As you can see from the photographs in this magazine, on 26 September 2016, the member firms of the RSM network united together through acts of kindness and generosity, partnering with national, or local, charities, through volunteering and community work, and other internal and external activities that strengthen our global connections — building relationships and encouraging all to learn about RSM. Whether it’s visiting a hospital, going boating, drilling a well, giving blood or having a party, the aim was to celebrate our collective belief in collaboration, understanding and ideas and insight; the values that underpin our corporate positioning: ‘The Power of Being Understood’. Five years on from the first RSM World Day, it is amazing how many people, charities, businesses and communities have benefited from our common actions, and we hope this will continue for many years to come.

Kuwait In Kuwait, RSM staff visited the Farah Specialist Centre for the Care and Rehabilitation of the Elderly, with the younger generation supporting their elderly community. Helping the elderly will never get old.

Azerbaijan As well as making cupcakes and going on a bike ride, our Azerbaijani colleagues spoke about innovation throughout RSM. They had a wheely good time.

INDIA In India, there were some very professional activities such as advertising, thought leadership and staff presentations – and then some less professional activities like cake cutting and balloons. It looks as if an American turned up to the party too.

lEBANON Celebrating RSM World Day was a piece of cake in the Lebanese office, which they enjoyed eating, while watching a presentation about the vision and development of RSM.
Sweden Our Swedish friends held an internal conference with over 80 employees. The focus was on ‘The Power of Being Understood’ and team building.

NIGERIA Nigerians have a history of producing great footballers. Though, I’m not sure we’ll see any from our RSM offices with the amount of cake they were eating. Their RSM World Day celebration got a starring role in the press.
AUstria Together with “Wirtschaft für Integration” (Economy Supports Integration) our staff outing was joined by young migrants who have successfully passed German language training. Our staff had the pleasure to guide the migrants through Vienna showing them some of the most beautiful sights in the centre of the city. This was followed by drinks and snacks and discussions where we had the opportunity to present RSM to the audience.

New Zealand RSM in New Zealand celebrated by supporting Ngâti Whâtua Ôrâkei, a hapu (subtribe) of the Ngâti Whâtua iwi (tribe). The offices came together on Bastion Point (Takaparawhau) to assist Ngâti Whâtua Ôrâkei in their efforts to restore the natural bush to benefit the tangata whenua (people of the land) and ‘bring the birds home’.

EGYPT We started the day with a visit to Egypt’s Child Cancer Hospital ‘57357’ with our partners and managing partner. The firm made a donation and our team members individually each contributed gifts and toys for the children.

NORWAY There was nor-way the Norwegians weren’t going to make the most of RSM World Day, so they created an exhibition stand outside in the street, offering coffee and introducing RSM to the general public.
Luxembourg Our colleagues in Luxembourg improvised their activities – literally. Giovanni Cirasa, one of their managers who does improvisation theatre as a hobby, led staff members through a presentation about RSM around the world and in Luxembourg. They also made an RSM tree, writing on it what kind of values they feel RSM represents.

GERMANY They are an active bunch in Germany - between them, they completed their own triathalon (a mud run, sailing and cycling), although the cycling looks a little more leisurely.

Venezuela As well as plenty of outdoors activities, the Venezuelans made a donation to the UNA (National Open University).

China The RSM China Team celebrated RSM World Day by visiting the modern Shanghai Lujiazui and the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. Looks like heaven to us.

URUGUAY The staff divided in to four teams to compete in a series of activities, guided by a group of entertainers. These activities included ball and inflatable games, making the teams collaborate and have fun as they played together. Then, the teams played an RSM quiz, which involved a series of questions that tested their knowledge of the network. There were questions about people, history, brand, values and the different services of RSM.

Romania The Romanians will be spending the rest of their lives behind chocolate bars, after spending the day learning how to make chocolate. To burn off those calories some of them ran in the Annual Bucharest Marathon for charity.

greece In the spirit of the RSM World Day game ‘Picture the Place’, the Greeks had a treasure hunt around their offices and called it ‘Do you know your city?’ The winning team of treasure hunters then chose which charity the firm donated money to. RSM World Day 2016
Belgium Belgium is known for its chocolate, waffles and beer, and I’m sure our colleagues enjoyed all of those as they played an interactive GPS-based city game through which they explored Antwerp.
Spain Fizz the season to be jolly in Spain as they had a glass of Catalonia’s best Cava to toast and welcome their new partners and colleagues after their recent merger.

CHILE In Chile, RSM staff visited a children’s hospital who also met RSM’s Latin America Regional Leader dressed as a dog. Not to worry, Brendan Quirk’s bark is much worse that his bite.

hong kong RSM in Hong Kong helped people of all ages as they spent time in underprivileged elderly households and with young patients of a children’s hospital. It looks like they brought joy to all.

argentina Argentinians attempted to channel ‘The Power of Being Understood’ through the art of karaoke. That’s a thumbs up from us.

australia Down under, they had a photograph competition of the places they had visited around the world, celebrating the global reach of RSM.
El Salvador They showed true entrepreneurial spirit in El Salvador, giving certificates to their Chamber of Commerce awarding free consulting services to five start-up companies in the country.
Turkey 23
Netherlands The Dutch were encouraged to think outside the box and talk about their ideas, by being given a box with a surprise treat hidden inside. They also ate a lot of cupcakes, during which time they said absolutely muffin.
France RSM always speak about the 38,000 talented staff we have around the world. The French went one step further and hosted an ‘RSM’s got Talent’ show. We aren’t sure anyone is going to get hurt by those muscles though. RSM World Day 2016
Malaysia Our Malaysian colleagues were busy doing good, spending time at a welfare home for orphans, and led a workshop for the children on the skill of using an abacus, while also donating money to the shelter. In the evening they hosted a networking dinner with clients, friends and diplomats, who enjoyed live entertainment, wine and local cuisines.

Thailand Our Thai colleagues made RSM World Day into RSM World Weekend as their firm took 120 staff on a weekend to Khao Yai in the mountains near Bangkok. They also donated money to a school to provide education for the less fortunate, and had a Great Gatsby themed talent competition. Phew!

Croatia The Croatians spent time looking after the future, first of all playing with 80 orphaned children at the ‘SOS Children’s Village Lekenik’, and then planting trees in a children’s playground.

MEXICO The Mexicans always take fantastic photographs of themselves in beautiful places, and this year was no different, but this time they had the aid of RSM’s insight graphics (coloured boxes).

Pakistan Pakistan spent the day doing what they love most – playing cricket and team-building. Howzat?!

kenya, TANZANIA AND UGANDA In Eastern Africa, our firm spent time doing good: giving blood, visiting children, and raising money by having an internal competition of RSM’s game, Picture the Place.

Tajikistan Our colleagues in Tajikistan participated in a Save the Children’s event dedicated to the improvement of education for young girls. At the event they gave a class on family budgeting and business planning.
MALTA This year the staff in Malta came together for a day of team building activities at the Scouts International Campsite in Ghajn Tuffieha, including team games and outdoor cooking. The teams tested their inventiveness in challenges, their communication skills and team-spirit.`

Saudi Arabia In Saudi Arabia, RSM staff organised a charity event with the orphans and homeless children of a nursery home, bringing cakes, drinks, and lots of presents!
South AFRica In Johannesburg, they supported an organisation called the Phomolong Centre for the Aged. This centre provides support and meals 4 days a week for 120 elderly people. The staff formed production lines and packed much-needed grocery bags. They then gathered together for a ‘food of the world’ themed lunch. The team in Cape Town office supported the Santa Shoebox Project. They packed care packages for 30 underprivileged children. Each pack contained basic necessities that we may take for granted, as well as a personalised toy and clothing item for each child.

Jordan There was bubble trouble in Jordan. After donating blood, our Jordanian colleagues played bubble football wearing beautiful RSM kits.
Republic of Ireland In true Irish style our Republic of Ireland firm dressed up as leprechauns and drank Guinness for RSM World Day 2016.

indonesia Our Indonesian’s blood drive was certainly not in-vein, as they helped the Indonesian Red Cross. They also donated an entire room to the University of Indonesia, with the fitting name: The RSM Accounting Faculty Lounge.

bahrain Our colleagues in Bahrain went on strike for the day. Only joking, they went bowling - but there may have been some strikes at some point.
puerto rico In sunny Puerto Rico, staff gathered together to watch the message from the CEO and presentation, before a lovely lunch on the veranda.

switzerland The Swiss baked up an RSM treat, and also played golf. Several of them seemed keen to join Andy Sullivan and Zach Johnson on Team RSM. 37
POLAND Did the Polish stay indoors for RSM World Day? Neigh! The went to a horse riding centre among other things.

RUSSIA
channel islands RSM Channel Islands celebrated RSM World Day with a bake off. Donations from the tasters raised funds for Island Friends Together, a Channel Islands charity which raises funds for childrens’ homes and schools in Sri Lanka and India.
SOUTH KOREA RSM Korea invited clients from China and Malaysia to celebrate RSM World Day .

GEORGIA Georgia scored a goal by partnering with the Georgian Football Federation to support a football team for autistic children. They also hosted a client and staff get together. Managing partner, Giorgi Kvinikadze, was interviewed on television.
OMAN Oh man! Staff used RSM World Day to promote their firm in the national newspaper.

HONDURAS Ready, steady, go! Honduras got active, celebrating RSM World Day with their very own sports day.
Mauritius The folks over in Mauritius partnered with Lions Club in a charity golf event to raise funds to equip the eye hospital of Mauritius with state of the art technologies and equipment for modern eye treatments.

UAE In the UAE, our RSM colleagues went to the arcade. Bassam Dahman, managing partner, won first prize on the coconut shy.

BoTSWANA It was a double celebration in Botswana as they enjoyed RSM World Day as well as Botswana’s 50th anniversary of its independence.

CZECH REPUBLIC This year we spent our RSM World Day outdoors. We are used to working as one team, but on this day we competed among each other, although only in sport, logical and skilful games
HUNGARY Our Hungarian colleagues got their RSM World Day message across in advertising in Hungarian Forbes magazine as well as using social media and playing Picture the Place. They also made time for some team building as well. 47
UKRAINE The team in the Ukraine are certainly in the fast lane - they raced each other followed by a well earned celebratory drink.

Vietnam Following a morning of learning more about RSM, staff had a rewarding visit to the Dieu Giac Orphanage. 49
Cayman Islands Staff spent the afternoon with the residents at the Pines Retirement Home chatting and hearing fascinating stories, playing various games, reading books to those of not such good sight and generally just providing company and having an uplifting time.
MOROCCO RSM Morocco’s RSM World Day went industrial in order to help the inhabitants of a village called Ain Laksab in the region of Benslimane. The firm financed the drilling of a well in the village which was launched by their managing partner, Tarik Bouziane. This initiative which will benefit about 1000 inhabitants and more than 120 families living in this village, who will now have access to water. Thirsty work! RSM World Day 2016
PANAMA Through a number of activities, the entire staff of RSM Panama shared their RSM World Day with their local community by celebrating with the children of the Divino NiĂąo Orphanage. The firm also made donations of food, bags of clothes, backpacks and personal supplies.

UK Supporting Duke of Edinburgh’s Award charity, all 18 members of the national leadership team (NLT) were allocated to one of two teams: Team Duke or Team Earl. In a nod to the classic Phileas Fogg tale, the teams’ adventures started and finished at The Reform Club in Pall Mall. They had just 80 hours to visit as many offices as they could. Plus they had some extra tasks to make it a proper challenge, and an interesting journey to follow along the way!
