At last Monday's Council m e e t i n g , w h e r e the d i s c u s s i o n w a s p r e s e n t e d by the I C U A c a demic Affairs Officer, Charles L o u i s s o n , the r e c e p t i o n w a s encouraging . Concern w a s expressed regarding editorial freedom a n d t h e need for c h e c k i n g o f any o p i n i o n s w h i c h might b e a i r e d i n the p u b l i c a t i o n ; but on t h e w h o l e , C o u n c i l a p p e a r e d a g r e e a b l e to t h e i d e a in p r i n c i p l e .

T h e v o t i n g for t h i s e l e c t i o n took p l a c e l a s t Monday, a n d the F r i d a y before. T h e voting figures for the f i r s t d a y w e r e esti m a t e d to b e a r o u n d 550 a n d for the s e c o n d d a y , a r o u n d 300. T h i s means that t h e final v o t i n g figure w a s w e l l b e l o w i t s target. T h e u s u a l p r a c t i s e i s for the r e s u l t to be a n n o u n c e d to the U G M a n d t h e n o m i n a t i o n p a p e r s a r e p u t u p a s soon a s possible after this. The p a p e r s h a v e , s u b s e q u e n t l y , to s t a y u p for t e n c o l l e g e d a y s w i t h the e l e c t i o n s t o be h e l d after a further f i v e d a y s .

Sec. and Editor of FELIX?" T h e s i m p l e a n s w e r i s that c o n s t i u t i o n a l l y it i s n o t a l l o w e d : had the D . P . c a n d i d a t e s put t h e i r n a m e s up at the same time as the o t h e r c a n d i d a t e s , a l l w o u l d h a v e b e e n w e l l . T h e p e c u l i a r i t y arose w h e n an e x t e n s i o n of time for nomina t i o n s w a s r e q u i r e d b e c a u s e no c a n d i date for the p o s t w a s f u l l y s e c o n d e d . T h u s i t c a n be c o n s t r u e d that it w a s the c a n d i d a t e s ' f a u l t for not g e t t i n g t h e i r n a m e s up in t i m e . O n e famous l a n d marie w h i c h t h e t e a m s h a d to vi s i t the " d o m e d c a t h e d r a l " (St P a u l ' s ) . T h i s proved to be a trouble- some spot b e c a u s e s e v e r a l o f the t e a m s a r r i v e d w h i l e a s e r v i c e w a s i n prog r e s s .
