The Pioneers in India for the Complete Grading Solution for all Coins and Banknotes of India and South Asia:
N.G.S. Hand-struck (coins from 600 BC to AD 1835); N.G.S. Machine-struck (coins from AD 1835 to Present); and N.G.S. Paper Money (Notes & Currency from to AD 1800 to present) Only Genuine Coins & Notes are Certified Sonically Sealed in Archival Quality Plastic Holders for Long-term Storage, with Certificate of Authenticity; All the data are uploaded on the website, www.NGSofIndia.com Safe for Collectors & Investors to buy Certified Coins & Notes The collectors will be at peace as they no longer have to worry about the genuineness of coins & notes they are buying. This will ensure that the unscrupulous people in the trade are filtered out of the business and collectors can safely park their money in certified numismatic objects; Grading of the notes and coins will ensure that when a collector buys things of a particular grade, he gets what he has been promised to. This will result in the transparency of the trade as a collector will no longer be cheated by buying a lower grade, say MS60 Grade instead of the promised MS65 Grade; A professional dealer will create an atmosphere of confidence among his cliental by supplying coins and notes graded and slabbed by the N.G.S. The N.G.S. slabs mean that they are certified and graded by at least 3 numismatic experts, equipped with Bar Code and Holograma, and are Ultra-Sonically sealed in holders of highest quality meant for longterm storage and are temper-evident so no one can replace the contents; Each N.G.S. holder comes with a Certificate of Authenticity equipped with Bar Code & Hologram, and are laminated for Temper-Proof Security. The dealers can trade their N.G.S. slabbed holders just on the basis of these certificates and they may not carry rare and costly coins & notes every day; and Details of each of the N.G.S. certified holders will be uploaded on the Internet, www.NGSofIndia.com where collectors and dealers can view their coins and notes or make business transactions directly without physically carrying them. First Coin of the Sangam Age Resurfaces by R Vaidyanadhan
The first Sangam Age coin found with a Tamil Brahmi script, first reported to be found in 1987, as mentioned in the works of Sir Walter Elliot, Dr. R Krishnamurthy and R. Nagaswamy in their works, has come to my possession. This copper coin is known as Kollip-ppurai. This has a warrior standing in front of a victory arch, a tree railing and script around the figure. The obverse has a bow-and-arrow, three-arched hills tortoise and fish in a river and two other symbols. The trio mentioned it in their works viz. Coins of South India, Journal of the Numismatic Society of India, 49, 1987, pp-36-38 and the Dinamani newspaper. A variant of the Kollip-purai is in the possession of Dr. Krishnamurthy who published this in his magnum opus “Sangame Age Tamil Coins” in 1997. The king Kollippurai ruled the region known as Kolli Malai (Kolli hills, now in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu). See the picture of the coin and eye-copy for the details of the coin.

End of an Era - One Rupee Notes by R Vaidyanadhan
The long and colourful history of the ‘One Rupee’ currency note, which existed for 77 years, came to an end in 1994. Though the idea of introducing banknotes in India began in 1770 (Bank of Hindostan), the necessity for "One Rupee” as such did not find any favour among the bankers or the Government for well over a century and a half. The first “One Rupee” note introduced in 1917 by the Government of India shows the then one rupee coin with the portrait of the King George V. These notes, printed in England, had the signature of M.M.S. Gubbay and AC McWaters. And uniquely they were introduced in booklet form (25 notes in one book). It continued to be in circulation till 1939. The second multi-colour note with frozen date 1935, printed at Nashik, was put into circulation during the reign of King George VI (on July 24, 1940) – well after the death of George V and the abdication of Edward VIII in December 1936. The note bearing the King George VI one rupee coin, signed by C.E. Jones, was again introduced only in 1944. The Republic of India “One Rupee” note though began its journey in 1949, had a few pauses before it bid adieu with the 1994 issue. The series of notes were issued in 1949-51; 1957; 19631981 and 1983-1994.
