See Page 3
The Hilton Los Angeles Airport and Towers
WHW Ministries will host its annual Methods of Expository Preaching and Teaching Conference at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport and Towers on October 3 – 7, 2011. The Conference focuses on providing the necessary tools for pastors, ministers and laypersons so that they can effectively teach the Word of God. The Conference was born from a vision shared by three strong men of God: Dr. R.A. Williams, Late Dr. Larry Harris, and Dr. George Waddles. These men saw a need in the Christian community: a method of expository study that could be utilized by ministers and laypersons alike in a manner that would enable anyone to be able to share the Gospel with the saved and unsaved alike. From their combined collaboration and effort, The “Methods of Expository Preaching and Teaching” was born. The WHW Ministries Conference offers some of the most dynamic and learned Christian Scholars of our time. Among the Biblical Scholars scheduled to present the Word this year are the following: Dr. A. Louis Patterson of Houston, Texas; Dr. Frank Ray of Memphis, Tennessee; Dr. H. Wayne House; and Dr. Bill Mounce, courtesy of Faith Seminary, Tacoma Washington. In addition to a wide variety of classes and seminars, Conference participants will also have the opportunity to participate in Class Seminars that will assist them in developing their evangelical and teaching skills. New to the Conference this year will be seminars geared to creating and maintaining ministries geared toward community outreach, and strategies in maintaining ministries in adverse economic climates. Other highlights of the Conference include the “Lunch & Learn” series, which will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.
Each session will be led by a panel of distinguished clergy, and will cover a wide range of topics. Some of the highlights are as follows: Golf fellowship at 8:30AM Tee Off at ROBINSON RANCH GOLF CLUB, Santa Clarita CA at the cost of $99.00. REVIVAL!! Many things have befallen us all since this time last year. We have made mistakes and had great failures, we’ve dealt with severe consequences, sicknesses, economic setbacks, we’ve had breakups and break downs, our enemies have plotted, and weapons have been formed. SEPTEMBER 14TH to THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, and culminating on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th at 7:00pm each night! ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL Let’s Do It!! Unfortunately, we find it is much easier to talk about making changes rather than actually making the changes! This is because talking doesn’t require action from us! Sometime laziness, setting unrealistic goals, wrestling with defeating mindsets, not having external support or not believing that one deserves what haunts them to achieve, are just some of the reasons we don’t move into action! Because we are taught to consider others and not to only think of ourselves, sometimes we go to the other extreme and do not consider our well-being, health or desires at all or not enough! However, because we are to be good stewards of our own bodies, minds, health, gifts, talents and resources, we must take time to love ourselves by considering ourselves. The Spirit of the Lord says to us “Love Yourself by Improving Yourself
and Improve Yourself by Loving Yourself!” This can be effectively done as we balance our lives with the Word of God! When we really love ourselves, we will seek the best for ourselves. We won’t accept negative words or deeds done to us. We won’t be abusive to our selves by feeding our mind with negative words or mistreating ourselves; but will place proper focus and action on the areas needing improvement in our lives. When we really love ourselves, we will take care of ourselves! We will maximize the spiritual, emotional and physical care of ourselves when we truly embrace Psalm 139:14- From the God’s Word translation- I will give thanks to you because I have been so amazingly and miraculously made. We MUST study and learn just how precious and beloved we are to God even when other people don’t value us. The key is that we must
DR. TONYA LEWIS
learn to value our self! To love ourselves and definitely to like ourselves! Emotionally, we will feed our minds thoughts, confession and encouragement in order to implement Philippians 3:14: to keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus and also press toward the mark of accomplishment in our natural lives, no matter how challenging that may be! If we can’t do it on our own, we will
seek out help from professionals, commit and become involved in settings (Church, Classes, fellowships, etc) which will assist us in becoming spiritually and emotionally healthy. Physically, we will once again commit to an exercise plan and healthy eating habits, no matter how many times previously we have started and stopped! After experiencing failure from prior attempts, the only way we will fulfill the mandate to “Love Yourself by Improving Yourself and Improve Yourself by Loving Yourself!” is to embrace Philippians 3:13. The NIV reflects-Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead! By loving ourselves, we will improve ourselves! By improving those areas that haunt us and constantly shout and remind us of the defeats in our lives, we will foster the kind of love we should have for ourselves! Only then will we be
able to properly and healthily love others! Some scriptures we can keep in mind from The New Life Version: Isaiah 40:29-He (God) gives strength to the weak. And He gives power to him who has little strength. Joshua 1:9“Have I not told you? Be strong and have strength of heart! Do not be afraid or lose faith. For the Lord your God is with you anywhere you go! Isaiah 30:21Your ears will hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it, “whenever you turn to the right or to the left. Psalm 32:8-I will show you and teach you in the way you should go. I will tell you what to do with My eye upon you. Isaiah 42:16-“I will lead the blind by a way that they do not know. I will lead them in paths they do not know. I will turn darkness into light in front of them. And I will make the bad places smooth. These are the things I will do and I will not leave them. Psalm 73:23-24-Yet I am always with You. You hold me by my right hand. You will lead
me by telling me what I should do. And after this; You will bring me into shining-greatness. We must stop talking about changing and actually begin taking actions that will birth change in our lives! Is it going back to school? Is it changing a profession that truly highlights your passion? Is it traveling? Moving? Painting, only to name a few! It begins with a plan; a simple plan, an achievable plan; One step at a time! Determine today in a new way to: “Love Yourself by Improving Yourself and Improve Yourself by Loving Yourself!” Join us for our upcoming event; 1st Sat Fellowship, Sept. 3, 2011, 1:00 pm, U S Bank Community Bldg., Crenshaw and Slauson, Los Angeles. Strategic Leadership Corner HONORING THE MAN OF GOD
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
How do you honor your pastor? Do you really understand the significance of the gift God has given to you? Do you really know how to honor the man of God, and do you really know why you should honor the man of God? We take time out once a year to honor our pastors, but, we need to understand that the honoring of the man of God should not stop at the close of the celebration, it should be a continual process. We honor the

man of God first of all, by hearing what he has to say, with the intent to obey. This can only be done, when we realize that he is a gift from God, and has been given to us to shepherd us from earth to Glory. God expects us to obey the man of God, for scripture tells us that if we don’t obey it will be unprofitable for us. God gives us pastors according to His heart to feed us with knowledge and understanding that we might know the Master’s will. Treat your pastor with respect, he is not just an ordinary man, he is a man chosen by God for you. Honor your pastor today and everyday, listen to him with the intent to obey, and then choose to bless him in a supernumerary way, after all he is your soul

watcher, and Philippians tells us that God will supply all our needs according to what we do for the man of God. I don’t know about you, but if the Lord doesn’t bless me for blessing my pastor, it has been a joy just to be able to be a blessing to him anyway! Somebody Oughta Say Something When life rattles with a storm God extends the shelter of His arms Whether illness, poverty, or heartbreak pain True Christianity withstands life’s hurricanes
O’ give thanks to the Lord for he is good This must be clearly understood Let the redeemed of the Lord say so Learn to love, forgive and let it go... Somebody ought a say something
God is our Rock of Gibraltar He receives burdens at the altar Lifts up every lowly head Raise slain spirits from the dead... Somebody ought a say something
You can’t love the Lord and not man Grudges were not part of the plan Don’t live as a spiritual amputee Know the truth and be set free
Sometime storms call out loud To read the writing on the clouds Have no other god was commanded it Love thy neighbor as God planned it
Amidst the hurricane is inner peace By faith command the storm to cease A frostbitten heart renders you undone Love beams down from the morning sun... Somebody ought a say something

Good News From Greater New Unity Baptist Church Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is STILL the KING of KINGS, and LORD OF LORDS!! To God be the Glory for allowing us to see another First Sunday! It is on THIS SUNDAY that we traditionally follow one of our churches ordinances, and take HOLY COMMUNION or the Lord’s Supper “This do in Remembrance of Me”. I thank God for the Blood...the song says” It was the Blood that made the Difference at Calvary”. Another song’s refrain says, “Oh the Blood that signed my name.” Still another song tells of “The Blood that Jesus Shed For Me.” So we thank God for the Blood. We also thank God for our Guest Evangelist , Minister J. Lewis, Youth Pastor from Redeemer Baptist Church (Pastor Curtis Monroe) who preached with the anointing of the Holy Ghost this past week at our Annual Revival! We
thank him for sparing no pain and for rightly dividing the word of truth, in a most powerful and prolific way, and for giving us a much-needed “spiritual shot in the arm”. Well-done, Minister Lewis!! Thanks to all who came and supported the revival. We appreciate your support and your prayers. We also thank God for on next Sunday, September 11 we will celebrate Youth Day and Grandparent’s Day at our 10:45 am service. Then at 3:30 PM that magnificent Pastor’s Aid will be sponsoring our Annual State Rally and all are invited to come and share in this terrific ministry of praise in support of our Pastor, Rev. Randy Allison Jr. Another Soldier gone home...Bro. John W. Leeper was called home to eternal rest on this past Saturday, August 27, 2011. Bro. Leeper and his beautiful wife Sis. Charity (Tina Randall) Leeper are former longtime members and dear friends of Greater New Unity. Earth has no sorrows that heaven cannot
heal, and once again, we bow in humble submission to the will of our Heavenly Father who doeth all things well. We stand in prayer with the entire Leeper Family at their time of bereavement. Bro. Leeper’s Home going will take place at his home church, New Revelation Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, Sep. 11, 2011 at 11 am- Pastor and Officiate, Rev. O. Reddick. Greater New Unity is a ForwardMoving Church, serving a Forward-Moving God. We are still located on the corner of 98th and Avalon, “where the power lines of the City meet the power of God; where everybody is somebody, and Christ is the Center of all”. Serving faithfully, humbly, and patiently as Pastor under the power of the Holy Ghost is our very own Rev. Randy F. Allison Jr. and reporting has been yours truly, Sis. Arlene Andrews. AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: EXPLAIN how the teachings from the proverb promote wise living; CONSIDER living wisely and following a straight path; and DEVELOP a strategy for making good choices and living a godly life.
Keep In Mind:
“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life” (Proverbs 4:13).
Focal verses:
Proverbs 4:10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

IN FOCUS Kim had gone to three stores looking for the colorful bracelets her 8-year-old daughter, Destiny, wanted. She chastised herself for waiting until today to look for them. Sunday after church was not the best time to shop for anything. When Kim and Destiny went into the fourth store, Destiny ran right to the bracelets. “Mom, they’re here!” Kim snatched a couple of bags of bracelets and led her daughter to the counter. “Praise the Lord,” she told the cashier. “Praise Him, sister,” the cashier responded. “So, you’re a believer?” “Yes, ma’am.” “Well, you should know what these bracelets mean. Your daughter is too young to know, but girls her age like them because they’re colorful and are cute animal shapes. But older girls give them to boys because the colors stand for certain sexual acts. I know it sounds crazy, but what is innocent today might mean meetme-behind-the-bleachers tomorrow.” Kim didn’t hesitate to put the bracelets back, and she allowed Destiny to take her time choosing another gift. In today’s lesson, we will find a father teaching his son the importance of making good choices and staying on the right path. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Way of wisdom. The way of wisdom might be synonymous with “the paths of righteousness” identified in Psalm 23:3, but it is not an actual path or walkway. It is metaphorical for choosing a godly lifestyle. A person who walks in the way of wisdom or chooses a godly lifestyle rejects peer pressure, avoids making bad and uninformed decisions, and lives by God’s Word. The way of wisdom is a narrow and tight road. Not many take it. It is restrictive and can be difficult to stay on. Its walkers believe that life is too short to mess up. BACKGROUND In our lesson text, we find Solomon teaching his children how to shun peer pressure. He taught them to be mindful of the places they go, the company they keep, and the words they speak. It may be hard for us to imagine the kind of trouble kids in Solomon’s day got into, and we probably don’t believe it was anything like the trouble kids get into today. Today, we see and hear of reports about youth violence, ungodly youth trends, and crimes perpetrated against youth. But as Solomon wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NIV), “There is nothing new under the sun.” Youth then were not exempt from trouble. IN DEPTH 1. Two Paths, Two Different Outcomes (Proverbs 4:10-15) Simply put, Solomon taught that life is a two-way street and that his children could go the right way (the way of wisdom) or in the wrong direction (the path of the wicked). Similar to God, Solomon allowed his children to choose by telling them in effect, “I have led you in the right paths; the rest is up to you.” Solomon taught his children by example and showed them how to hide God’s Word in their hearts, how to recognize ungodliness, and how to shun evil. Though he was not a perfect man, his children were witnesses to the blessings of God upon Solomon’s life. He warned that the way of wisdom would not always be easy, and that it was not a popular road. When parents know what they put into their children, they can usually know what to expect out of them. Solomon stressed the importance of choosing the way of wisdom so that his children’s lives would be different from their aunts and uncles. Their uncle Absalom had his halfbrother Amnon killed for raping his sister Tamar, and he later tried to steal his father’s kingdom but instead was killed. Then when David was advanced in years, their uncle Adonijah tried to have himself declared king instead of Solomon. Solomon knew that adherence to God’s Word could break the cycle of violence and sexual sins among the men in his family. He taught that the way of wisdom is a path to long life, prosperity, and happiness. 2. Practice Makes Perfect (vv. 20-27) To Solomon, it was not enough to tell his children to choose the way of wisdom and not give them practical tips on doing so. In these verses, he advised them to: (1) guard their hearts, (2) set a guard over their mouths, (3) attend to what they see or look upon, and (4) be considerate in all they do. As verse 23 points out, the heart must be guarded as the issues of life flow from it. To keep one’s heart undefiled by sin, we must keep up good thoughts and keep out bad ones. The heart is defiled by sinful and evil thoughts and desires. A well-kept heart produces glory unto God and goodness toward others. Out of a poorly kept heart comes murder, lust, lying, envy, and other sins. Verse 24 includes another practical tip: to set a guard over one’s mouth. Negative words slip out of a perverse and “froward” (distorted, crooked—evil speaking) mouth, but a mouth that is well-guarded is careful not to curse, swear, lie, or slander. Solomon warns against having a roving eye. In verse 25, he tells his children to only look straight ahead—not behind, not to the sides, not even above. Be focused only on what is in front of you. Keep your eye on the Lord. A wandering eye (as Eve had when she saw that the forbidden fruit was pleasing to the eye) can lead

to ensnarement. Make no decisions rashly is what Solomon taught in verse 26 when he wrote, “Ponder the path of thy feet.” He tells them to weigh their actions. If they were to put God’s Word on one balance of a scale and their actions on the other, they would easily be able to make right and informed decisions (see v. 27). He teaches his children to take the steady direction and the sure paths so that their ways might be successful. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Proverbs 4:10-15, 20-27 Introduction Proverbs 4 is essentially divided into three parts. Verses 1 through 9 focus on a father’s relaying of advice to his “children” (v. 1) that he received from his father. This is followed by verses 10 through 19, which are dominated by the doctrine of two ways and where language of taking a journey occurs frequently. The third section, which ends chapter 4, focuses primarily on achieving a holistic sense of health. Throughout the first and second sections, the father guides his son in “the way of wisdom” and “along straight paths” (v. 11, NIV). The son’s “steps will not be hampered,” and he “will not stumble” if he follows the father’s instruction (v. 12, NIV). In addition, the father warns him not to “set foot on the path of the wicked,” or head their way (v. 14, NIV). The righteous walk in the safe light of day. “But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble” (v. 19, NIV). Verses 10 through 15--the core of this advice--begin this week’s text. 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. The section starts with the admonition to “hear” (Hebrew shâmà, shaw-MAH), which not only means to listen carefully but also to obey. The importance and the link between listening and obedience is heightened by the Hebrew word lâqach (law-KAKH), translated “receive,” which also means “to accept” and “take to instruction.” There must be attentiveness and a willingness to appropriate what is taught. The consequence is that the life of the pupil “shall be many,” which means he or she will be given a long life. Adam Clarke sums up the second part of the verse very well. He writes, “Vice and intemperance impair the health and shorten the days of the wicked; while true religion, sobriety, and temperance, prolong them. The principal part of our diseases springs from indolence, intemperance, and disorderly passions.’ Religion excites to industry, promotes sober habits, and destroys evil passions, and harmonizes the soul; and thus, by preventing many diseases, necessarily prolongs life” (Clarke, 712). How true those words are even today. 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble. Beginning from verse 11, the father/ teacher gives additional reasons why his authority should be respected and the teaching followed, so that his commands may not be judged as harsh and arbitrary. He uses the figure of a road to make a comparison. Living according to wisdom is like walking or running on a safe road, a road that is well defined, where the feet can tread on good surface and take a course that will be free of unnecessary obstacles, so that progress will be certain. On such a road, one can move along with easy strides and be sure of smooth progress. “Thy steps shall not be straitened” means the journey will not encounter restraint, confinement, or rebuke. It is a metaphor taken from those who walk in a straight (narrow, troubled) and uneven path, where they are apt to stumble and fall. When one lives by this teaching--thou shalt not stumble”nothing will impede progress. Those under the influence of sound biblical teachings ponder their paths and carefully examine circumstances as they occur; the fear of God leads them to act in an upright, honest manner, and thus their way in business and life is both clear and large. They are without fear of being tripped up by unpredictable, seemingly insurmountable obstacles. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. The admonitions of this verse challenge the believer to urgent faithfulness. Not only is wisdom the means of making progress in life, it is life itself. Anything so essential must be enthusiastically maintained. This is the import of the Hebrew word châzaq (khaw-ZAK) translated here as “take fast hold of,” “cleave to,” and “be obstinate about” something. The believer must not let go of the truths of God’s words and must not allow God’s words to go unheeded. Elsewhere, “instruction” (Heb. muwcar, mo-SAWR) also means “selfdiscipline,” or “moral religious education” (see Proverbs 1:3). Here it refers to discipline, such as parental counsel. It is our duty to hold to the truth that God has revealed to us and to attend to the commandments that He has sent us. But it is also for our own soul’s profit. Divine truth is not a mere luxury; it is a necessity of life. 14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. 15 Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away. Here begins a command to avoid evil association, which is a source of mischief to everyone, but especially to the young, who are more imitative and whose habits are undergoing development. “Evil men” primarily as were noted in chapter 1—are bloodthirsty men of violence. The warning is to avoid evil ways and evil men by not starting on the wicked path of life. The rapid sequence of imperatives in verse 15 stresses the urgency of the matter. In addition, the expressions used continue the comparison of lifestyle with traveling along a path—only now the lifestyle to consider is evil. Phrases
such as “avoid it” and “pass not by it” state in the strongest terms to get as far away from evil as possible. Whether for the sake of worldly gain, or through a desire to please others, never approach the pathway along which you would not wish to be found when God calls you into the eternal world. The serious purpose of our soul should be to shun every appearance of evil. 4:20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. The rest of the chapter consists of warnings, which are permeated by a metaphorical use of body parts. The ear is to remain keen for listening to wise advice (v. 20); the eyes are to stay fixed on right teaching (vv. 21, 25), and the feet are to stay on the right path (vv. 26-27). The mouth and lips must shun using twisted words (v. 24). Above all, the heart must be guarded by sound doctrine (vv. 21, 23). If the son listens to his father, his whole body will be healthy (v. 22). By using ears, eyes, and heart, the teacher is exhorting the whole person to receive the teaching. The son is first advised to heed the wise words of the father. The word “attend” translates the Hebrew word qâshab (kaw- SHAB), which means to incline the ear attentively. The restating of this phrase in the same verse underscores its importance. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. The reason for heeding the instruction is that the father’s words of wisdom are the means of life and health. The human condition apart from God is regarded as a condition of death or enfeebled by sickness, but obeying wise advice can restore the listener to life, health, and soundness. This brings up the old Latin quotation, “mens sana in corpore sano,” which means “a sound mind in a sound body.” The Hebrew verb mâtsà (maw-TSAW), “to find,” implies an activity and suggests a deliberate effort to get possession of and procure wisdom. It does not automatically come to a person. The “health” that is promised here is physical, emotional, and spiritual— the whole person. God’s words bring deliverance from the evils that harm and hinder life. Nothing preserves soul and body in a healthier state than when we always keep before our eyes and carry in our hearts good doctrine. “All their flesh” implies the completeness of the restoration; it is not confined to one part, but pervades the whole body. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Verse 21 instructs the believer to guard wisdom in the heart for it is the wellspring of life. The heart is the starting point of life’s activities (23:19); it determines the course of life. “Heart,” here as elsewhere, refers not to the physical organ but to the mind and the entire personality of the individual. The capacity to live with joy and vigor ultimately comes from within and not from circumstances. The corrupt heart draws one down to the grave, but wisdom protects the heart from that corruption. John Flavel, in his book Keeping the Heart, very wisely observed, “The greatest difficulty in conversion is to win the heart to God; and the greatest difficulty after conversion is to keep the heart with God” (Flavel, 2). As the living stream “issues” from the physical heart in its normal, healthy condition, to vitalize and nourish every part of the body, so in spiritual things the heart is the seat of the Lord of life and glory. The streams of spiritual life proceed from Him to all the powers and faculties of the soul. We must, therefore, be vigilant about our treatment of wisdom. The Hebrew term for “diligence” (mishmar, mish-MAWR) is very emphatic; it means “to set double guards” such as those which provide high-level security. This forcefulness of expression plainly implies how difficult it is to “keep” our hearts, and how dangerous to neglect them! Care must be taken that the fountain not be stopped up nor injured. We must be circumspect and careful with the thoughts we express. 24 Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. After the father challenges his son to store wisdom in his heart and watch over his heart with all diligence, he gives the son a series of instructions involving his mouth, eyes, and feet. Centuries later, Paul referred to our bodies as “members of Christ” that we can use either as instruments of righteousness or unrighteousness ( 1 C o r i n t h i an s 6 : 1 5 - 2 0 ) . T h e commands in Proverbs 4:24-27 concerning our mouths, eyes, and feet can be obeyed only when we are watching over our hearts with full vigilance. Otherwise, we will have a type of external obedience only
(such as that of the Pharisees in the days of Jesus). The heart works in tandem with the tongue and as such, starts with it. As the source of life, the heart sends up the thoughts that the tongue expresses in words. Words flow out of the heart. A believer must avoid the words that swerve from truth and purity to lies, prevarication, deceit, and wrong discourse of every kind. Instead, righteousness must control the tongue, and twisted and crooked speech must be shunned. Truthful speech is the product of wisdom (see 8:13; 10:32). 25 Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee. The final exhortation returns to the imagery of the path (vv. 25-27). The idea is that one should not be distracted from the way of wisdom (v. 25). “Look straight before thee” is an expression of unswerving directedness toward a goal. The person who does this pursues wisdom single-mindedly, not looking to the right or the left to check out other options and is not distracted by temptation to leave the correct path. The foolish person is always looking around for different objects of desire. As the story of John Bunyan in Pilgrim’s Progress well illustrates, temptations lie on both sides of the way, requiring one to focus directly ahead and walk without deviating to either side, without even glancing at them. As the author of Proverbs often states, winking or squinted eyes are symptoms of unreliability and guile (6:13; 10:10; 16:30). The wise person will have an unswerving directness, but the fool is easily distracted (17:24). 26 Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Here the warning is not to allow our feet to take us down the wrong path. Proverbs speaks of the foolish as having “feet that are quick to rush into evil” (6:18, NIV; see also 1:16). By contrast, the wise stay on the path of life, the path of righteousness. Proverbs 15:21 says that “a man of understanding keeps a straight course” (NIV). By contrast, the foolish man follows paths that are “crooked” (2:15). Having feet that stay on the path of righteousness demonstrates a single-minded pursuit of wisdom. The word “ponder” (Heb. pâlaç, paw-LAS) means “to make level,” “to weigh,” and metaphorically, “to consider, to deliberate.” The sense is that one must consider undertakings well by examining them thoroughly
beforehand and pondering whether they are right and proper, so that one may have confidence in the righteousness of conduct and the providential ordering of the result (Psalm 119:133; Hebrews 12:13). 27 Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27 repeats the warning in verse 25 in a manner reminiscent of Deuteronomy 5:32; 17:11; 28:14; and Joshua 23:6. Proverbs 4:27 is closely connected with verse 26, which it more fully explains. As in verse 25, the gaze is to be concentrated; the feet are not to deflect nor turn aside to byways. Nothing is to be permitted to divert the believer from the right way, neither adversity, nor prosperity, nor anything that can possess the power of temptation. The disciple must not allow anything to turn him or her aside the path of virtue, honesty, and fair dealings in all matters of faith.

children. Couples from divorced homes have developed lasting and healthy marriages… The list goes on and on. How is this possible? While there are perhaps many theoretical opinions relative to the nature of such success, there’s thee one answer which could best sum it all up. “Greatness” IS a birthright! Created by Thee Most High God, one must live their life expecting to be great because all the Lord creates is perfect. Obstacles are to serve as seeds of determination sewn in us to become all that God
expects. Without deficiencies we’d be a completed work and therefore would be of no use to anyone. Hindrances not only create a heart/spirit of determination, but obstacles also breed humility…enough humility to recognize that none of us is “self made”. The “struggle” is absent from a few generations of God’s children today - creating a level of spiritual/psychological/ physical weakness sure to lead to a future of destruction. A life of privilege tends to breed laziness, haughtiness, unlawfulness
and despair. The ‘sense of entitlement” generation is largely responsible for a failing economy, extinct family, and absence of the virtue God intended. When you have everything material and suffer from an empty spirit… you’re still bankrupt! (For DAP and others like you who have stood as extraordinary examples in the face of adversity). TRINITY NEWS!!! Free Prostate Cancer Gospel Benefit Concert The Trinity Community Development Corporation (TCDC) has partnered with the G.R. E.E.N Foundation to present a benefit all-women gospel concert at Trinity Baptist Church on September 11, 2011, at 3:00. This concert is free with a freewill offering to raise funds to support the respective cancer programs of the two organizations. The concert is titled “Real Women Wear Blue:” to demonstrate the strong female support for early detection of prostate cancer and prostate cancer awareness among men especially African-American men, who experience a disportionate share of prostate cancer occurrence and deaths. The concert will feature gospel recording artist Cynthia Stewart, and some of California’s most notable female gospel singers: Kesiha Ealy, Markita Knight, Voice of Praises (Mt. Tabor Baptist Women’s Choir), Trinity Baptist Church Praise Ensemble, and the G.R.E.E.N Foundation All Girls Band. It promises to be an exciting concert. TCDC sponsors a Free Prostate Cancer Screening and Education event annually in November of each year and conducts prostate awareness events throughout the year. The G.R. E.E.N Foundation addresses economic and health-related issues as they pertain to African-Americans in the community, and is currently the only organization in Orange County to offer these types of services to the local African-American community on a consistent basis and brings attention to the importance of early detection with programs including a mobile screening unit, distribution of materials to bring more awareness to underserved communities, presentations on prostate health, and patient navigation to assist men in healthcare, especially if they have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The funds raise by the concert will support the programs of both of these organizations. I have attached a flyer for the event and urge you to attend and support this vital cause. I also ask that you spread the word to your friends and family, church members, organization members, and neighbors.

“MEN FALL, BUT WE GET UP IN GOD’S SUPPLY” @ THE FORCE Greetings in the NAME that’s above Every Name. “MEN’S DAY!!!” - The Men’s Department of The FORCE is putting out the call to all of the MEN (and women) of the city to join us in our Annual Men’s Day celebration. Set you calendars for Saturday, September 17th and Sunday, September 18, 2011. We are praying that God will continue to bless our endeavors as we are anticipating at least 100 Men to come along side us as we prepare for battle. WE FALL DOWN, but by the Grace of God we’re able to GET-UP in GOD’S SUPPLY. We draw this theme from Proverbs 24:16 and our 2011 Church theme: A CHURCH MAKING EVERY EFFORT TO GROW IN GOD’S SUPPLY (Philippians 4:19). Solomon gives us nuggets to live by as he pinned this text; “For a just MAN falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.” Falling is a part of living in this flesh which is contrary to God, but the victory comes when we line up with the same as surety that the Apostle Paul had in knowing that God will Supply
all our needs (which includes the out-stretched hand of Jesus) that allows us to GET BACK-UP again. *Saturday, September 17th is our Pre-Men’s Day fundraiser event: WE FALL DOWN DOMINO TOURNAMENT DAY. The FORCE is putting out the call for ANY and ALL who say that they were the ones who put the DOTS on the DOMINO’S. The registration fee of $5.00 signs all participants up to show-off their domino’s skills for which at King or Queen will be Crowned Champion!!! We are asking for immediate responses to any interested contestants for the tournament. Please email Bro. Kevin Odom @ kodom@crescenthh.com, Rev. Kimbrough @ revnkimbrough@ msn.com or call our church office at (310) 76-FORCE (7636723). SPECIAL THANKS: We want to say thanks to all who made our Women’s Day such a success last Sunday. Oh how those sister’s “Rose Above their Shattered Dreams”. Last weekend began with a wonderful and fulfilling “Lets get Healthy for Christ Workshop” that fed us both physically and spiritually. Thanks to Evang. Vergie Sampson for leading us in our
9:30a Sunday-School hour and Min. Linda Howard for an inspiring word at our 11:15a worship experience. Thanks to Pastor E. L. Williams, Jr. and the New Prospect Family for their continuous support and love. Special, Special, Special Thanks to the First Lady of the Atherton Baptist Church Sis. Patricia Weaver and the Atherton Church Family (Rev. Larry D. Weaver, Pastor). My God, how Sis. Weaver walked through the book of Ruth at our 3:30p service. We know that God was well pleased as she dissected this text with a highly sharpened sense of what God is requiring of us as we “Rise from our Shattered and Broken places.” *SPECIAL UPDATE...We invite you and you to our Wednesday Night BTI Study beginning @ 7p. This is a Bible Based, Bible Taught, Bible Inspired time with God in His Word. COME AND BE BLESSED... Respectfully submitted by Sis. Tameka Forte’, Public Relations, Rev. Nathan D. Kimbrough, Sr., Pastor of CHRISTIAN FORCE MBC 1008 N. Willowbrook Ave., Compton, CA 90220 - (310) 763-6723; revnkimbrough@msn.com.
