With the beginning of a new school year approaching, the Greater Zion Church Family is in anticipation and preparation! The best
part of preparing for a new school year is shopping for new school clothes and school supplies! Our desire is to bless our school-aged young people with supplies that will put them at the head of the class! School supplies will be available at our Church Gathering on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Mills Park (Del Amo Boulevard and Central Avenue) in Carson. The Church Gathering and School Supply Give-Away is the precursor for our annual BACKTO-SCHOOL REVIVAL. Supplies are only one part of the preparation for the school year. It is the intention of the Greater Zion Church Family to provide instruction, and Godly blessings for all those gracing an educational campus. We believe that it is our job to ensure that the Kingdom of God is represented appropriately wherever we are - even at school the following men of God will assist in the blessings, instructions and preparation Continued On Page 4

IT’S REVIVAL TIME AT THE ROCK
PASTOR WILLIAM G. DAVIS HOST PASTOR
Come join the Rock of Faith Baptist Church family as we take time to usher in the spirit in REVIVAL!! Many things have befallen us all since this time
last year. We have made mistakes and had great failures, we’ve dealt with severe consequences, sicknesses, economic setbacks, we’ve had breakups and break downs, our enemies have plotted, and weapons have been formed. Thus, our revival theme and prayer for the body of Christ in this season is simple: “I’M A BELIEVER” (HABAKKUK 2:4). We’ll be having a good time in the Lord, and rejuvenating the spirit for three nights beginning on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14TH to THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH, and culminating on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th at 7:00pm each night! Pastor Reginald C. Payne (Full Gospel
Baptist Church, 6900 S Compton Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90001) will bring the Word on September 14th; Rev. C. Lamar Simmons (Greater Mount Olive Baptist church, 659 W Colden Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90044) will usher in the Spirit on September 15th; and, Pastor Elton Penn (105th Christian Church, 10500 Avalon Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90003) will bring the revival to a close on September 16th. TRINITY NEWS!!! Free Prostate Cancer Gospel Benefit Concert The Trinity Community Development Corporation (TCDC) has partnered with the G.R. E.E.N Foundation to present a benefit all-women gospel concert at Trinity Baptist Church on September 11, 2011, at 3:00. This concert is free with a freewill offering to raise funds to support the respective cancer programs of the two organizations. The concert is titled “Real Women Wear Blue:” to demonstrate the strong female support for early detection of prostate cancer and prostate cancer awareness among men especially African-American men, who experience a disportionate share of prostate cancer occurrence and deaths. The concert will feature gospel recording
artist Cynthia Stewart, and some of California’s most notable female gospel singers: Kesiha Ealy, Markita Knight, Voice of Praises (Mt. Tabor Baptist Women’s Choir), Trinity Baptist Church Praise Ensemble, and the G.R.E.E.N Foundation All Girls Band. It promises to be an exciting concert. TCDC sponsors a Free Prostate Cancer Screening and Education event annually in November of each year and conducts prostate awareness events throughout the year. The G.R. E.E.N Foundation addresses economic and health-related issues as they pertain to AfricanAmericans in the community, and is currently the only organization in Orange County to offer these types of services to the local African-American community on a consistent basis and brings
attention to the importance of early detection with programs including a mobile screening unit, distribution of materials to bring more awareness to underserved communities, presentations on prostate health, and patient navigation to assist men in healthcare, especially if they have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The funds raise by the concert will support the programs of both of these organizations. I have attached a flyer for the event and urge you to attend and support this vital cause. I also ask that you spread the word to your friends and family, church members, organization members, and neighbors.

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL Daily Celebrate !! There are certain days that have been set aside for national recognition of special occasions: These include Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, New Years, Independence Day, etc. Among the reasons we have done so is to remind us to stop, recognize, and to celebrate their various meanings. Therefore, we look forward to “the day” or season of celebration so that we can “spend time with family and friends, give and receive gifts, enjoy good food, rest, celebrate the special occasion, etc”. However, as Believers in Christ we have the privilege through our “Abundant Life Benefit” to celebrate these special days each day! We can “Daily Celebrate” the blessed assurance of having God here on earth with us which the message of Christ’s birth communicates during our celebration of Christmas! We can “Daily
Celebrate” Christ’s resurrection as we do during Easter and be reminded that we can also be resurrected from any dead situations in our lives! Certainly daily, we should be thankful for every single second God sits on His Great throne; for then we have the blessed assurance that He is watching over our lives! Daily celebrating New Years reminds us that each day provides new opportunities to “Be a Blessing” and to “Be Blessed”! Excitement for our spiritual freedom and independence from the power of Satan should be proclaimed daily as we celebrate with fireworks in July! The over-whelming presence of God in our lives, His love for and faithfulness to us enables us to experience joy, laughter, fellowship, freedom and a spirit of thanksgiving from bondage and no matter what is going on in our lives! However, to
DR. TONYA LEWIS
do so, we must embrace the Word of the Lord in our hearts, believe and submit to it, recognize the opportunities of celebration and thanksgiving even in the midst of the stormy and difficult times of our lives! In all likelihood, many of us will admit that our lives have fallen short of the hope and expectations planned as we entered into adulthood. We believed the white picket fence and “living happily ever after”

were automatic experiences of life. However, we have since learned after having experienced trials and tribulations, heartaches and disappointments in life that was not the case! Nevertheless, as Children of God, we have found with His help and following the Word of God that it is possible to still have reasons to “Daily Celebrate” life! Our encouragement to celebrate depends on where our attention is focused! To exercise the ability to “Daily Celebrate”, we must keep our hearts set on the “Promises, love and faithfulness of God our Great God”, and not “just” focus on the “Challenges of Life”! In order to have a sane mind in the midst of this “chaotic” and sinful world, we must definitely keep looking to Jesus and He will definitely show US the way! Subsequently, that will keep us from asking as stated in Psalm 13:2 NLT- How long must I struggle with anguish
in my soul, with sorrow in my heart every day? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? Also by so doing, we will with confidence and boldness be able to address the concern of Psalms 42:10 NLT- [As] with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where [is] thy God? Our enemies will have their questions answered from witnessing the joy and assurance in our lives as we “Daily Celebrate” God in our lives! FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Strategic Leadership Corner GIVING HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
I remember as I was growing up, my mother taught us to always give respect to those that were older, had authority over us, or those that held a special position. My mother would say you better put a handle on that name, in other words, being a child, I could not call a grown person by their first name, if it wasn’t uncle or auntie, it had to be Mr. or Mrs. To call someone by their first name was to imply that you were on the same level as they were. So a child was

certainly out of order by calling an adult by their first name. It seems to me that in 2011 we have gotten extremely lax in our recognition of those that have authority over us or have a special position in our lives. Too many times we call our pastors by their first name, could it be we do that because we don’t recognize him for who he is? Is it because we don’t realize that he is a gift from God, someone called out of the called out. Seemingly, in 2011 we have gotten too common with our pastors. We are not on the same level as our pastors, someone might say, I’m a man just like he is, but that does not place you on the same level. Pastors are watchmen, they are assigned to watch over our souls, what an incredible responsibility.

We need to get back to the old time way, giving honor where honor is due. Maybe your pastor is younger than you, but you should still recognize him for the position that God has given him, your soul watcher! MUST HAVE a RESERVATION After driving three hundred miles Good reason thought it best To aim the car towards a motel Where I could give my body a rest I could barely hold up my head Eyelids were heavy as could be But every motel sign I saw The lights blinked, “No Vacancy” I drove another one hundred miles Until I finally saw a holy place This was a church on the side of the road Where I could rest and consider my case
The clergyman invited me in And gave me food and drink Then he showed me to a cot Where I could catch a wink The important of reservations occurred to me Whether you’re alive or dead You can’t even get into heaven or hell Unless your behavior made reservations ahead

AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: DISCUSS the advice given in the lesson that promotes godly wisdom; REFLECT on experiences of following both good and bad advice; and DECIDE to follow the advice offered in the proverb.
Keep In Mind:
“He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding” (Proverbs 15:32).
Focal verses:
Proverbs 15:21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly. 22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. 23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and KJV
IN FOCUS Keisha was trying to keep her cool, but her toddler-niece, Jasmine, was getting into everything and her sister Tasha wasn’t doing anything about it. Keisha refused to intervene because Tasha didn’t like for anyone to tell her how to raise her child. But when Jasmine almost fell, Keisha couldn’t resist. “Tasha, do you see Jasmine? She’s climbing all over the coffee table.” “Get down, Jasmine.” Keisha rolled her eyes at her sister. She could’ve told the baby not to do that, she thought. Keisha got up and peeled Jasmine away from the table. “If you do that again, I’m going to pop your behind,” she scolded. “You ain’t gonna hit my baby.” “That’s what’s wrong with her now. Our parents whupped us and we turned out decently,” Keisha assessed. “Whupped? We got beat, and I’m not treating my child like an animal.” “But she’s acting like one.” Tasha took Jasmine from Keisha. “Well, how about me and my animal go home then.” “That’s not what I meant. I’m just trying to give you some advice. If you don’t discipline her now, you’ll be sorry later.” Without advice and support, the path of life is downward. In today’s lesson, the advantages of good advice are outlined. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Hell. In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for hell is sheol, and it is defined as a grave, pit, an underworld, and an abode of the dead. Hell is characterized as a place of no return, a place of punishment for the wicked. In the New Testament, the word for hell is translated Hades and Gehenna. While Hades still means grave and underworld, Gehenna (translated as “lake of fire”) is known as a place of future punishment and torment. Multitude of Counselors. Separately, the translated words for “multitude” and “counselors” mean a great number of people who advise and consult. BACKGROUND As pointed out in lesson one, the beginning of the book of Proverbs is a preface, an introduction to the actual proverbs. The proverbs—short but weighty sentences— begin in chapter 10. Most of them are distichs, two-sentence couplets in each verse that illustrate each other. Each proverb sets before us the advantages and disadvantages, the blessings and curses, and the difference between the wise and foolish. The verses in our lesson text outline the blessings of good advice. The author points out that plans created by one person tend to be less effective than they could be. Wise planning encourages participation and counsel from a variety of people. IN DEPTH 1. Right Actions (Proverbs 15:21-22, 24-25, 27) Solomon offered that it is easier to know what to do when one seeks the advice of others. He encouraged his children to shy away from making decisions alone and to avoid hasty decision-making. Obtaining counsel from others promotes sound judgment, support, and success. Because fools isolate themselves when they make decisions, their overconfidence will lead them to failure, and they may stumble when they come upon defeating circumstances that they could have foreseen and prepared for, if they had used wisdom. The language of 15:24 possibly anticipates what later Scripture will clearly teach about the ultimate destination of the wise and righteous way of life. The writer means primarily that leading such a life preserves the wise and good from a disastrous death (14:32). The path may be steep, hard, and painful, but the good man’s path leads heavenward (Philippians 3:20). The believer’s affections are set “on things above” (Colossians 3:2). According to verse 27, bribery, direct and indirect, is the bane of public men and the curse of a country. Those who make the most of their position for their own pockets, who make laws and administer them for their own selfish ends, ought to remember these words— they are laying up trouble for their own families. 2. Right Speaking (vv. 23, 26, 28) While speaking well is a strength, speaking right is vital. An articulate person speaks well—he knows how to express himself, pronounces his words precisely, and is verbally captivating—but a wise person speaks right. According to Proverbs 15:23, 26, and 28, right speaking includes knowing when to speak, speaking with pure motives and good intentions, and speaking profitably, truly, and pertinently. A fool speaks wrongly. His words are illtimed, and he says whatever comes to his mind. He speaks with evil intent, and he dishonors the hearers of his words. Thus, it is the right word spoken at the right time. It may not be the word that is sought and asked for. It may even be an unwelcome word, a startling word, a word of rebuke. Whether by way of advice and counsel, or of exhortation and instruction, or of comfort, the Lord provides such words to His people. As someone once said, “Wisdom is not just speaking your mind but your speech.” It is of great importance not only to consider the matter, but also the manner

a word spoken in due season, how good is it! 24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. 25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words. 27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. 28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. 29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat. 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. 33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.
of our utterances. 3. Right Thinking (vv. 31-33) The hinge on which right speaking and right actions swing is right thinking. Solomon teaches the necessity of developing and maintaining a mind that is God-centered. Such a mind is the wellspring of life. A person who thinks right can accept rebuke. Because he has an open mind, he is teachable and is able to gain understanding. He is directed in good ways. A foolish person on the other hand is easily offended, despises correction, and is stiff-necked. He thinks he is smarter than others and believes he is above reproach. Yet he fears trouble, his mind rehearses his failures and mistakes, and he is often anxious. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Proverbs 15:21-33 21 Folly is joy to him that is destitute of wisdom: but a man of understanding walketh uprightly. Merriam-Webster defines folly as “lack of good sense,” which leads to terrible results and, in some cases, tragic outcomes. Therefore, the focus of this week’s lesson contains serious urgency. The fool delights in folly and does not seem to comprehend the outcome of an immoral deed. He or she follows any whim and finds delight in impulsive behavior because he or she “is destitute of wisdom” (Hebrew chacer leb, khaw- SARE labe) to see the foolishness in it. To find joy and satisfaction in folly is definitely a sign of stupidity since folly can bring disaster. The senselessness of the fool, paradoxically, gives him joy. In contrast, the wise person has insight, appreciates the potential for danger, and, therefore, walks “uprightly” (Hebrew yashar, yaw-SHAR), that is, in a “straight course.” The verse underscores the importance of good judgment (in Hebrew tebuw'ah, teb-oo-AW) and suggests that a valuable lifestyle must be maintained by wise decisions. 22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established. A successful plan requires using good advice; this general observation has value on the personal and national level. Imprudent action brings disaster; prudent action gives security. In contrast to 11:14, where the national interest is at the forefront, consultation here is advised for more personal matters. Failure to seek advice is associated with pride in 13:10. Here, and in 11:14, seeking advice from many counselors can avert disaster. If a person determines the nature of a matter, and goes about its resolution hastily and precipitously, without mature deliberation, without consulting and taking the advice of others in forming a strategy to bring about desired results, it generally comes to nothing. 23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it! As this verse points out when it comes to advice, content and timing have synonymous importance. The well thoughtout and appropriate instruction requires knowledge and wisdom. Obviously good advice and good timing do not always coincide. One of the ideals of the sage was to have the right word at the right time, as this verse indicates. “A word spoken in due season” is advice given at the right moment and in the most suitable manner, when the occasion and the interests at stake demand it (comp. Proverbs 25:11). 24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath. The meaning in the NLT of “upward” in Hebrew (ma`al, MAH-al) is not entirely clear. As such, the verse generally is taken to mean that “upward” refers to this physical life and contrasts with “departing from hell beneath,” or literally going down to “hell” (Heb. sheol, sheh-OLE) or “the grave” (NLT), because the idea of immortality is not clearly revealed in Proverbs. Such an upward life tends to material and spiritual health. Primarily, a long and happy life is promised to those who fear the Lord, as stated in Proverbs 3:16; additionally, the promise includes avoidance of the downward course, which ends in hell. The point here would be that the righteous expect to live long and healthy lives (2:20-22; 3:18; 5:6). 25 The LORD will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow. The Lord administers His justice through righteousness. He brings down the proud but protects the needy. The proud, self-confident man shall be uprooted along with his family, his household, and his wealth. The second part of verse 25 refers to the particular vulnerability of the widow in Israelite society, since she had none but herself to mount a defense against encroachments and oppression (Isaiah 1:23; Jeremiah 7:6). The widow often typifies weakness and desolation in the Scriptures (see Deuteronomy 10:18; Psalm 146:9). God will take the widow under His protection and see to it that her property is secured. In a country where property was defined by landmarks—stones or similar objects—nothing was easier than to remove these altogether, or alter their position. Scripture amply confirms that the Lord champions the cause of the widow, the orphan, the poor, and the needy. 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words. The Ten Commandments, by forbidding coveting, showed that God’s Law touched the thought of the heart as well as the outward action. The idea here refers to wicked plans or designs, rather than the secret movements of the mind. The phrase “but the words of the pure are pleasant words” means literally that words of a soothing, comforting tone are not an abomination to the Lord, as are the devices of the wicked; they are pure in a ceremonial sense, as a pure and acceptable offering. The Lord is pleased with plans that
have righteous intentions. “Pleasant words” are not sweet nothings; they are the opposite of the “evil plans” of verse 26 (NLT), and thus express the virtuous designs of the just. These affect not only others, but also oneself, as they act in a healing manner, according to 16:24. On the one hand, the intentions or “thoughts of the wicked” (Heb. machshabah ra`, makh-ash-aw-BAW rah) are thoughts that will harm other people; these are an abomination to the Lord. 27 He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; but he that hateth gifts shall live. Those who are secure in their circumstances will not succumb to the evil devices of avarice. The “greedy” (Heb. boseà` batsà, boSEE-ah baw-TSAH) is the one who wants a big cut, who is in a hurry to get rich, and who is not particular how it happens. The word “troubleth” (Heb. àkar, aw-KAR) reminds one of the story of Achan, who, in his greed, appropriated some of the spoil of the banned city Jericho and brought destruction upon himself and his family, when, in punishment of the crime, he and all his family were stoned in the Valley of Achor (Joshua 7:25). So, too, the covetousness of Gehazi caused the infliction of leprosy upon himself and his children (2 Kings 5:27). In Proverbs 15:27, “gifts” (Heb. mattan, mat-TAWN) could be innocent enough, but they may alter one’s values. Hating bribes is the safest path to follow. 28 The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. Speech is the one thing that many think they have a right to squander. There is probably no more common recklessness than that of the tongue. Yet experience teaches us to be economical with the expense of the tongue. In this verse, we find a contrast between a deliberate speech and a deluge of thoughtless words. The New International Version says that the heart or mind of the righteous “weighs” or “studieth” (Heb. hagah, daw- GAW), or “considers,” “muses,” “meditates,” how to answer. The thoughtful discourse of the just is the opposite of the rash, actually “evil” speech of the “wicked” (Heb. rà, rah). Those who are wise are cautious in how they answer, as opposed to the wicked, who blurt out vicious things. The advice is to say fewer but better things. 29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. The author stresses the importance of approaching God with the right attitudes and conduct. Wickedness puts distance between God and the sinner (Exodus 33:3; Isaiah 59:2). Those who turn their ears away from hearing God’s words are inattentive to God’s commands, thus making their prayers abominable to God (Psalm 10:1; Proverbs 15:8; 28:9). The distance of God from humans is a symbol of His not hearing their prayers (e.g., Psalm 10:1). The wicked keep a distance from Him; so He is “far” (Heb. rachaq, raw-KHAK) from them--an idea that signifies He is inaccessible or deaf to their appeals. Of course, a prayer of repentance by the wicked is the exception, for by it they would become the righteous. 30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat. Good news is uplifting to hear. The Hebrew ma'owr`ayim (maw-ORE AH-yim) which means literally “light of the eyes,” and in NIV “cheerful look,” may indicate the gleam in the eyes of someone who tells good news, as the parallel second clause suggests. The idea of “health to the bones” (NIV) comes from a Hebrew expression found in the KJV “maketh the bones fat,” and it is a symbol of health and prosperity. (See also Proverbs 17:22; 25:25.) 31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise. A teachable person is willing to become wise. Verse 31 shows how someone who listens to “constructive criticism” (NLT) will feel comfortable among wise people. The development of wisdom requires a willingness to hear and integrate perspectives that may run counter to previously held convictions. This is the implication of the word “reproof,” which could mean “censure” but also includes the idea of arguing as well as showing and maintaining the right. This is also in opposition to the “scorner” of verse 12 and to anyone who will not listen to reproof. A listener who hears a rebuke receives it gratefully and obeys it. “Advice is for them that will take it,” says one of the old proverbs, and the meaning here is nearly the same. To abide “among the wise” implies that either a person who listens to reproof will thereby be made wise and be esteemed as
one of that number; or rather, he or she seeks out and delights in the company and conversation of the wise, by whom he or she may be admonished. On the contrary, fools who hate reproof, avoid and abhor the society of wise men and reprovers. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding. Verse 32 emphasizes the reward o f t e a c h a b i l i ty ( c o m p a r e w i t h 10:12). The teacher returns to the connection between discipline and understanding, and the neglect of discipline and death. If embracing instruction leads to the preservation of life, he that “refuseth” (Heb. parà, paw-RAH) neglects or willfully rejects and despises it—throws it all in the way of danger. This willful rejection of wise counsel is tantamount to considering one’s “own soul” as vile and worthless, as the word “despise” (Heb. mâ'ac, maw-AS) signifies. According to the Septuagint (the Greek version of the Old Testament commonly designated by LXX), such a person commits moral suicide because he does not follow the path of life. He is like a sick man who “thrusts away” (Gk. apotheitai, ap-o-THEH-om-ahee) the wholesome medicine that offers his only hope of cure. In contrast, the person who hears reproof acquires understanding. Discipline is often at odds with youthful inclinations, but accepting discipline is both necessary and important to spiritual development. Being a good disciple demands being a good listener, which in turn implies a willingness to receive rebuke. 33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility. The verse takes up the theme of “fear of the LORD” from Proverbs 1:7 and 9:10. Humble submission in faith to the Lord is not only the beginning of wisdom but also its continuance. As an old sage once wrote, “No wisdom, no fear of God; no fear of God, no wisdom. No knowledge, no discernment; no discernment, no knowledge.” The last part of Proverbs 15:33, “before honour is humility,” has its contrast in 18:12, where pride leads to destruction. Here humility
brings honor. It is the overestimation of self that makes us contemptuous in any sense toward others. A person who fears God must be humble, and as the fear of God leads to wisdom, it may be said that humility leads to the honor and glory of being wise and reckoned thusly among the wise (v. 31). A man with a lowly opinion of himself will hearken to the teaching of the wise, will scrupulously obey the Law of God, and will be blessed for doing so. “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” (Proverbs 3:34; see also James 4:6). To look down as from a superior height on others is the most mischievous hindrance to progress. God shall honor those who have the humility to accept Him and His guidance.

MIRACLE DIETING

“Miracle Diet 101: I went to bed fat & woke up skinny. The weight of the world was on my shoulders @ bedtime. After I cast my burdens on the Lord, I woke up so much lighter.” The Spirit of the Lord rested upon me this past week with the above words. I was grateful once again to be the recipient of His direction. So often times society tells us that we are never good enough (physically) – focusing in on the outer shell and so obviously ignoring what’s broken from within. Billions of dollars are spent each year globally by a human race that merely tries to fit in according to what the world requires. Slogans like, “One can never be too rich or too thin”, “The fairer/ lighter, the better”, etc. keeps humanity in bondage and feeling inadequate. What’s truly amazing is that those within the Body of Christ tend to measure themselves according to the “world” as well. We diet for all the wrong reasons (for vanity and not health), we spend excessively (for acceptance and not necessity)… We even spend countless hours blogging, texting and posting in social media circles hoping to be accepted by people we’ve never met and perhaps never will. Remarkably, this is the kind of pill that is so easily swallowed and never provides spiritual, psychological, emotional or physical freedom. Still heavy laden, tremendously burdened and alone…there is still no rest for the weary. May I suggest the following: God did create us in His image; beautifully and wonderfully made. There’s no need to repair the outer package when the inner soul is broken and despondent. A “patchwork project” or quick fix always returns negative results. There’s no miracle in dieting using pills, syringes, shakes and prepackaged foods. However, there is refuge in our relationship with the Almighty Creator. God promises that if we come to Him “all those who are heavy laden, I will give you rest”. Happy Dieting. Peace, Love & Blessings… Your comments are welcome at: theprocesschristiancounseling@gmail.com

Missionaries for Christ is a Christian organization dedicated to serving the Homeless and the Economically Disadvantaged. The ministry, founded by Sis. Carrie M. Mc Cray in September 1981, began by serving food to the Skid Row residents. One month later, a Convalescent Home Ministry was started. Since it’s inception, the ministry has evolved to include annual events, such as: The Backyard BBQ, Beach Fellowship, Thanksgiving Basket Give-Away and the Blanket-Sock Giveaway. people, which is us the church, Praises of Zion. He over-sees, leads, guides, protects, teaches, trains, counsels, he preaches to, he prays with and for us, and he feeds God’s flock with spiritual food, which is the Word of God. There is no doubt in our minds that our Pastor is a leader/pastor according to God’s heart: a man chosen and called by God; anointed and appointed by God; sent by God to lead and rule well; a man who studies the Word of God so that he may represent Christ in his preaching, teaching, and daily living…but most of all Pastor Hardwick is a man who loves God, and who loves God’s people. He is a husband to one wife…Mrs. Thelma Hardwick, our beautiful and radiant First Lady, who has been by his side every step of the way, praying with him,, encouraging him,
and lending a helping hand when needed. It is also very important for Pastor Hardwick to remember who called him, and the importance of his service must forever be in the fore-front of his mind. Being a Pastor is an honor and a privilege and those who are chosen to take up this position in the church must be a special breed. The Pastor is the head of a spiritual hospital, where the sick come for healing and the hungry come to be fed. The eternal lives of human beings lay in the balances. The Pastor is responsible and accountable to God for what he has been given charge over (1Corinthians . John 15:16 “ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit.” (1 Corinthians 12:28-29, Ephesians 4:11). Pastor Hardwick’s sole
purpose is to take care of his flock. He is in the pulpit, and he also gets out in his community, to feed the poor, knock on the doors, and travel the various highways and byways, to those who are not attending church. He tries to be as visible and accessible, as is humanly possible for those who have need of him. Therefore, we the members truly thank God, for in Ephesians 4:11-13 He says. “And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors…”, but we know that He gave Pastor Hardwick and Mrs. Hardwick to Praises of Zion. Hallelujah, and thank God. To God be the glory! Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Senior Pastor; Sister Faye Williams, Appreciation Services Chair-Person; and Sister Clarice Holmes, Reporter.
