FRIENDLYWILL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH Celebrates 3000 Sundays of Praise & Worship

PASTOR CHEZ LISTER HOST

The date was Sunday, April 18, 1954, Easter Sunday Morning. It was on this day, that our eternal all powerful true and living God, ordained, anointed, and commissioned, our late founder, Pastor Lorea Johnson and a small

group of born again believers to be His witnesses to the world and He called them FRIENDLYWILL. From that day, The Friendlywill Missionary Baptist Church by the grace, mercy and power of God, has gathered together every Sunday without fail, to worship and praise our King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. We honor and glorify God in recognition of our humble beginnings and our very first worship service. As we continue to testify and stand as witnesses for Jesus Christ as a church body, we are approaching a monumental milestone in our church history. On Sunday, October 9, 2011, we

will reach the milestone of 3,000 consecutive Sunday morning worship services for the Friendlywill Missionary Baptist Church. For this reason and upon reaching this great milestone by the grace of God, we pause and turn towards our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to render our praises and thanksgiving unto Him for bringing us safely this far. Our theme for this grand occasion, “Lord You Brought Us From A Mighty Long Way” Joshua 24:17. In honor of this day of celebration, we are Continued On Page 7 FRIENDLYWILL......

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Today, Sunday, September 25, 2011, 4:00p.m., the women of New Commandment under the pastoral leadership of Dr Rev Grady Jones, and our chairperson, Sis Peggy Rose wish to invite all in the Southern California area basin to come and fellowship with us during this precious service. “Growing Where God Planted You” has been selected as the theme for this service, with biblical references found in Jeremiah 17:7-8, which reads: “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought,

neither shall Cease from yielding fruit.”Lady Rose M Neale has graciously agreed to be our keynote speaker for the day. Lady Neale has been dedicated to the Lord since the age of seven (7) serving HIM by spreading the “good news” of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ through inspirational singing. She has traveled extensively throughout the US singing gospel music for over fifty (50) years. September 2009, Lady Neale was blessed to record her first “Live Concert”. Although Lady Neale is widely known for her music ministry, she has also accepted the anointed call of evangelism, where she was licensed as an Evangelist under her Pastor, David Cross of the Liberty Tabernacle Ministries, located in Gardena CA. Lady Neale is a mother of three (3) children and grandmother of three (3) young men. Lady Neale has a very distinctive biography regarding her

labors for the Lord and believes whatever she is asked to do to bring glory and honor to God is a divine opportunity to minister to the people of God. Won’t you come and join us to hear a word from the Woman of God? The Women’s Chorus of New Commandment will be under the leadership of Recording Star, Carlotta. This service expresses an air of excitement that is difficult to contain. You need to be here! New Commandment is located one mile north of the 91 Freeway and one mile south of the 105 Freeway at 15548 Paramount Blvd, Paramount CA. Please don’t hesitate to call us for additional information, need prayer, or to just comment on something we can assist you with, at (562) 531-7703. We love you and pray all is well with you. Remember there is nothing that happens in your life that you and God cannot handle, together through prayer and fasting, leaning on the Lord. Is it the 4th Sunday in September already? Yes, time is flying and to God be the Glory for another chance and one more day.....another chance to see the sun again, to feel the wind blow gently on our faces; another chance to hug our loved ones and to share the love of Jesus with others; another chance to do it better; another chance to right our wrongs and to get it straight... thank God for another chance! I think Bro. Cleveland Birden sings it best, “I’m sorry, forgive me, clean me up Jesus, I didn’t meant to hurt you, nor desert you, but I love you so much

- I admit it that I did it, I didn’t mean to let you down, Lord Jesus turn my life around and give me ,ANOTHER CHANCE”.....I love that song, and I know that you do too!! And if you are reading this, God has given YOU “Another Chance”. We also thank God for the foresight and expert Leadership of our Pastor, our young Joshua, Rev. Randy F. Allison Jr and for the obedience, hard work, and sacrifice of our church family in seeing the vision, and working toward it! Our church is undergoing a major renovation and improvement and to God be the glory for what He has enabled us to do already, by standing together, working together, and praying together! Soon, the dust will settle, the paint will dry, and we will render

our voices in praise in a NEW SANCTUARY, to the GLORY OF GOD!! Our weekday services and meetings are postponed, but we are happy to be able to have Morning Worship at the appointed and regular time of 10:45 am, beginning with Intercessory prayer! What a great time we had last week, and we anticipate a great move of God this week and in the weeks to come...Keep on praying; don’t stop! All weekly meetings will resume, beginning with Executive Leadership Meeting on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at 8 am. To God be the glory. You are LOOKING GOOD UNITY!! Remember, don’t stop praying...fasting.....studying the Word for yourselves....ALL OF THAT!!! Greater New Unity is a Forward moving church, serving

a Forward Moving God...How we lift those up in prayer, who say “pray for me”. The list is getting longer and longer, and the needs are becoming greater and greater. We will continue to look to the hills from whence cometh our help, for our help cometh from the Lord. Greater New Unity is still located on the corner of 98th and Avalon, “where the power lines of our city, meet the power lines of God; where EVERYBODY is somebody, and Christ is the Center of All”. SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON

.......................... In Your TEACHING MINISTRY

AIM for Change

By the end of the lesson, we will: KNOW the relationship between an orderly life and trust in God; FEEL what it means to live an ordered life; and CREATE a strategy, based on godly principles, to live an ordered life.

Keep In Mind:

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe” (Proverbs 29:25).

Focal verses:

Proverbs 29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. 17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul. KJV

October 2 -- Bible Study Guide 5

18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. 19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. 20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. 21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length. 22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. 23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. 24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not. 25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. 26 Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD. 27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.

IN FOCUS The women’s choir celebrated their 30th anniversary. Celeste honored God as she glorified Him through song. She was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice, and her joy overflowed as she praised God. Immediately after the anniversary, Celeste fellowshipped with fellow choir members and friends at the dinner for the choir, which was held in the fellowship hall. Because she had dinner plans later that evening, she didn’t eat much. An hour later, as Celeste walked into a secluded restaurant, she saw Michael sitting at a table in the corner. He stood up and pulled out her chair. Before Celeste had a seat, she leaned over to kiss him. Michael smiled as he said, “Teresa will be at her mother’s tonight. Let’s make plans to spend the night together.” Celeste quickly responded, “I packed an overnight bag. I hoped your wife would find somewhere else to stay tonight.” Today’s lesson teaches that we should change any actions that cause us to step outside of godly principles. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Palestine. God allotted this land alongside the Jordan River to Israel as an inheritance. Initially referred to as Canaan, “the Promised Land” was then divided into two kingdoms and designated as “Israel” and “Judah” in 931 B.C. Historically, Greeks have applied the name “Palestine” to the entire southeastern Mediterranean region. West of the Jordan River, Palestine is 6,000 square miles; east of the Jordan, Palestine is 4,000 square feet. BACKGROUND The book of Proverbs reveals two major themes: wisdom and folly. Wisdom is knowledge, understanding, discretion, obedience, and instruction based on God’s Word and reverence of God. Folly is everything that contradicts wisdom. The Old Testament provides God’s Truth through the Law, which was given by the priest; the wise men or sages gave the Word, which was given by God and wise counsel. Solomon is the sage that provided insight on the perplexities of life (Proverbs 1:6). When Solomon became king of Israel, God granted his request for understanding (1 Kings 3:9-12). As a result of God’s response, Solomon’s wisdom was greater than anyone else’s. Solomon’s counsel was more valuable than the era’s notable sages, such as Heman and Chalcol (or Calcol, see 1 Kings 4:31). Because proverbs were not generally written, memorization was an effective way of teaching and learning. The short, concise phrases that comprise Proverbs lend themselves to the best method to reveal and remember a divine truth. IN DEPTH 1. God Commands Self-Control (Proverbs29:16-22) Proverbs 29:16-22 explained that increased sin leads to increased rebellion. Moral decay has risen because societal moral standards have decayed. As society flourished during biblical times, the transgressions increased as the sinners became bolder. Their confidence increased because there were large numbers of offenders. However, the psalmist David reminds believers, “Wait for the LORD and keep his way,” because God will change things according to His time (Psalm 37:34, NIV). The wicked will be cut off and fall; the righteous will witness the downfall of the sinners. Because children are a blessing, obedient children are a comfort to their parents. The parents can trust the children and rest in the fruits that the children produce through a good education and spiritual foundation. In Proverbs 29:17, Solomon reminds parents that children must be corrected to have peace and happiness. Strict discipline is necessary to correct a child. Wise instruction and discipline are necessary to bring delight instead of shame to a parent’s home and reputation. Proverbs teaches that a moral individual recognizes the immorality that exists within society. Immorality is more pronounced when sin flourishes and moral decay increases. If there is no prophet to share God’s commands and God’s wisdom, the people are unaware of God’s vision. The prophet is God’s servant who imparts knowledge, understanding, and faith. Deficiency in hearing the Word of God leads to rebellion. Solomon wrote that the “people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). Therefore, prophetic exhortation is necessary for a viable, godly society. When society heeds the revelation and submits to God’s Word, a blessing is pronounced on God’s people. Because continual, thoughtless conversation may lead to sin, Solomon reminds us in verse 20 that wisdom restrains the tongue. Because there is little time spent on thought and reflection when someone speaks hastily, he further reminds believers that rashly spoken words put someone on the level of a hopeless fool. In fact, because the individual believes there is no need for advice from others, hasty speech often reveals self-conceit and pride. Thus, a person who is slow to speak and considers the advice from others reveals control and wisdom. Solomon then addresses trouble and strife within a neighborhood, workplace, or society that can provoke discord among individuals and ultimately throughout society. He instructed that unnecessary anger leads to sin and creates chaos. Troublemakers do not promote peace; instead, they encourage anger, illicit behavior, and lack of control. Thus, uncontrolled anger leads to

sin because bad decisions are made. If a person is easily provoked to anger, he or she is more apt to sin (29:22). There is a difference between righteous indignation—that takes a stand—and uncontrolled, unbridled anger that leads to sin. God, therefore, commands self-control. 2. God Commands Humility (vv. 23-25) Because people depend on themselves rather than God, Solomon taught that pride can lead people to live independently from God. Pride is evident when we do not trust God. Pharaoh, Nebuchadnezzar, and Herod exemplified this kind of arrogance. Solomon instructed that the prideful will be brought down and the humble will be lifted up (v. 23). Society encourages people to seek high positions where they will be praised, but God is not pleased. He commands humility. Jesus reminds believers that the first will be last and the last will be first (Matthew 19:30). If we are in last place as we follow Jesus, our temporary sacrifice offers eternal reward. The world encourages narcissism, confidence, and arrogance to reign on earth while God encourages humility, meekness, and servanthood to reign as kings with Christ. Another truth, in Proverbs 29:24, is that if people partner with a thief and do not disclose the truth (become the thief’s “accomplice,” NIV), they commit perjury and the result is punishment. A silent witness is guilty before God even though friends, family, and coworkers may not know. Seen and unseen wrongdoing do not please God. 3. God Is in Control (vv. 26-27) The legal system within society offers temporary relief from injustice. Ultimately, individuals will not be satisfied with a ruler’s temporary favor. If believers trust in God with a committed faith, God demands justice. Thus, we must look to God and seek His favor. Ultimately, God controls the rulers that humanity seeks to please because God is sovereign—in control of His universe and never out of control of it. As believers, then, we must make a choice between the path of righteousness and immorality. We walk uprightly when we obey God’s commands and depend upon Him. When we choose to obey God, we have security in the eternal promise of God and not the temporal objects and people in the world. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Proverbs 29:16-27 16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall. This verse is similar in its sense to Proverbs 28:12, 28; and 29:2. The just and the wicked are contrasted, and it is evident that the increase of either group leads to greater power and influence. We see the contrast between the social situations under the control of the just and that of the wicked. The clear implication is that the reign of the just person is beneficial to all, for it ensures the “great glory” of the populace, while the rule of the wicked has the effect of driving people into hiding to get out of the way of injustice (cf. 28:12). The first part of 29:16 affirms that when “the wicked are multiplied” or, literally, when the “wicked thrive” as the Hebrew phrase rabah rashà (raw-BAW raw- SHAW) suggests, transgression also thrives. The second part of the verse and its first word “but” shows that there will ultimately be a reversal: righteousness will prevail. Although verse 16 does not say how or when, the victory of the just is signaled because the righteous will “see” (Hebrew ra'ah, raw-AH) “their downfall.” No matter how much wickedness spreads in the land, righteousness will live to see it destroyed—an idea that is frequent in the Psalms (cf. Psalm 37:34-36; 54:9). 17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto thy soul. The numerous references throughout Proverbs to discipline within the home may have affected a societal attitude about family relations during the period that Solomon wrote. There is little doubt a similar situation exists in our times. Discipline or correction is not a popular word; it is sometimes equated or confused with child abuse. However, the writer of Proverbs focuses on discipline in a positive way, expressing the satisfaction and joy that parents will experience in correcting their children and witnessing the wisdom that emerges as a result. This is echoed elsewhere (10:1), as is the need for discipline (19:18; 23:13; 29:15). A disciplined child will cause parents to feel relieved that they have properly handled this aspect of their responsibility. The first part of 29:17 is parallel to the second, but with the second part adding the thought of “delight,” which in Hebrew is màadan (mah-ad-AWN) to that of “rest” (Heb. nuwach, NOO-akh), or “relieving anxiety,” as in Deuteronomy 12:10. The word “delight,” used elsewhere for cooking delicacies (Genesis 49:20; Lamentations 4:8), is a metaphor for the joy a responsible son brings; care for aging parents would be a consideration. Used together, “delight” and “rest” suggest the image of a parent taking a deep breath and letting out a sigh of relief and pleasure at a child who has turned out well. 18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. This popular verse refers to two forms of divine revelation: vision and law. In prophetic literature especially, the Hebrew word chazown (khaw-ZONE), which translates here as “vision,” frequently refers to the vision of the prophet, but it occurs only here in Proverbs. Thus, it often refers to divine communication to prophets (cf. 1 Samuel 3:1) and not to individual or group goals, as “vision” is frequently understood or applied. The word is translated elsewhere as “guidance” in Today’s English Version and as “revelation” in the New International Version. Whether understood as prophetic vision or revelation, Proverbs 29:18 underscores the significance of leadership that is truly spiritual and godly. If there is no revelation from God, people can expect spiritual and political anarchy. If there is “no revelation”

or “no vision, the people perish,” or in the NIV, “cast off restraint” (Heb. parà, paw-RAH). The meaning of “cast off restraint” is reminiscent of Exodus 32:25. A nation’s well-being depends on obedience to divine revelation. There is much similarity between Proverbs 11:14, which references the necessity of “counsel” (or “guidance,” NIV) in obtaining victory, and this verse. In comparing 11:14 with 29:18, as strategy is necessary for gaining victory, so prophecy is integral to communal flourishing and national well-being. No matter the resources or abilities of a people, without God’s guidance and prophetic vision, the results are disastrous. Those who live in the absence of God’s prophetic vision experience chaos of many sorts, to the point of societal disorder. In contrast to the first part of 29:18, the second is positive: the one who keeps the law is a happy person. “The law” (Heb. torah, to-RAH) is not merely the Mosaic Law or the Ten Commandments; the law is the true proclamation of God’s Word and will via His representatives. 19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer. The verse is probably a general observation. It is not sufficient to train servants by words alone. The verse shows that slaves had to be corrected just as sons were (see v. 17). There is no place for justifying disobedience. The second part of verse 19, “For though he understand he will not answer,” explains the necessity of correction. The slaves in question were unresponsive, probably a case of silent disobedience. A reluctant slave thoroughly understands the order given, but pays no attention to it, will not trouble himself to execute it, and, therefore, must meet with stern discipline (compare with 29:15; see also 23:13; 26:3). The situation described in 29:19 is well stated by our Lord Jesus Christ in Luke 12:47: “And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.” This means that those who know better because they have been instructed properly and still disobey will be punished. 20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. The proverb is a strong condemnation of frivolity and rashness of speech. It applies to those who speak hastily without thinking or considering the implications of what they say as this affects the speakers and others. The person who is in a hurry to open his or her mouth may do so with the best of intentions. However, the words may turn out to be unhelpful and ruffle rather than soothe a difficult situation or strained relationship. To such a person the words of James become a sound advice: “Let every man be swift to hear, [and] slow to speak” (James 1:19). As the saying goes, “A fish will not get caught if it keeps its mouth shut.” Since the Hebrew word dabar (daw-BAW), translated here as “word,” could mean “action” as well, the proverb may be widely applied. “Hasty,” as used in Proverbs 29:20 and elsewhere in the book, has unfortunate references. For example, haste in acquiring wealth (13:11), a hasty temper (14:29), hasty promises (20:25), hasty decisions (21:5), and hasty judgments (25:78). Christians must believe the Lord and not make haste. 21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length. The Hebrew word panaq (pawNAK), which occurs only here in the Old Testament and is translated as “delicately bringeth up,” refers to spoiling a person by over-refinement, luxury, and pampering. To treat a bond servant with great indulgence and lenience is peculiarly unsuitable for Solomon’s era and rare to say the least in modern times. Another challenge in the interpretation of the verse is the meaning of the Hebrew word manown (maw-NOHN), translated as “son” in the King James Version. The Septuagint translates the word as “grief,” in which case Proverbs 29:21 simply means that an undisciplined servant causes nothing but grief. 22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression. Anger brings strife. Using synonymous parallelism, the parts of verse 22 focus on the “an angry man” and “a furious man.” The first such person stirs up dissension, and in so doing, he also causes sin in himself and in others. The Hebrew word chemah (khay-MAW), translated as “furious,” literally means “heat.” Chemah is also used to refer to the venom of serpents (Psalm 58:4) and the “fiery” effects of wine (Hosea 7:5). A furious person is hotheaded and is the opposite of the one who knows how to restrain temper and tongue. Such a person is to be avoided (Proverbs 22:24, 25). He or she “aboundeth in transgressions” (29:22) and, ultimately, will pay the penalty for

the multitude of sins (19:19). 23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. The same thought, as is in the first part of 29:23, is found in 15:33; 16:18; 25:6; and Luke 14:11. Alongside the condemnation of pride, there is the commendation of humility. In our competitive world of so-called “self-made” men and women, humility is not rated very highly. Instead, it is sometimes seen as a sign of weakness rather than strength of character, but not so with the writer of Proverbs. A humble spirit brings honor and respect. Proverbs 29:23 contrasts consequences: pride leads to abasement, but humility brings exaltation. The humble person does not seek honor, but by his or her life and action unconsciously attains it. As translated by the Septuagint, “Haughtiness brings a man low, but the lowly-minded the Lord upholdeth with glory.” 24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not. In the same manner that a person who aids and abets a crime is considered guilty, this verse describes a person who is “partner with a thief” as engaging in spiritual self-hatred. This is explained by the phrase “he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not”; or as the New American Standard Bible translates it, “He hears the oath but tells nothing.” This is in line with the command in Leviticus 5:1 (cf. Judges 17:2). If a theft was committed, the person wronged or the judge pronounced a curse on the thief and on anyone who was privy to the crime and refrained from giving information or refused to speak up. As such, a witness who saw and knew of a crime, and was silent during the formal proceedings, must bear his iniquity; he is not only an accomplice, but he is also a perjurer. One sin leads to another. 25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. The contrast here is between “the fear of man” and “his trust in” the Lord. Fear here is an inordinate fear of harm or suffering from others, particularly those in position of authority. It is opposed to trust in God, because it arises from a distrust of God’s promises and providence. Such fear becomes a snare, which is an occasion for committing sins, especially when the fearfulness gets to the point of letting others control your life, letting their opinions and attitudes put subtle pressure on you, even hindering you from speaking the truth or doing what is right. Consequently, it brings punishment from God. In contrast, the person who trusts in the Lord—that is, walks in God’s ways and completely relies on Him for protection from the schemes and malice of the wicked— shall be safe. That person shall be preserved from all evil, through God’s watchful providence. In addition, such persons will be able to say like Peter: “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29, NIV). 26 Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD. The contrast here is between seeking the grace of a ruler and finding justice from the Lord. Many try in times of need, by fair or surreptitious means, to curry favor with an important person with something to bestow (comp. 1 Kings 10:24; Psalm 45:12). But we are now reminded that our destiny does not lie in their hands but in the hands of God, who has supreme judgment, though we often ignore His rule. It is a great miscalculation to assume that true justice depends on a human ruler and that supplication must be directed first to her or him. True justice ultimately comes from God, whose approval or disapproval is final and indisputable—not from an earthly official or ruler who may be prejudiced and is certainly fallible. 27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and

he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked. As the verse shows, virtue and vice are antagonists. An “unjust” person (Heb. èvel, EH-vel) considers the “upright” or “just” person (Heb. tsaddiyq, tsadDEEK) an abomination. The life of one type of person is a reflection on the conduct of the other type of person. The just, or believers, are those who are in covenant relationship with God through their faith in Christ; they exhibit the nature of the Lord, Savior, and Master, Jesus Christ. It is written of Him that in observing the sinners around Him, He “looked round about on them with anger” (Mark 3:5). The psalmist also says that God is “angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm 7:11) and that the Lord “hateth all workers of iniquity” (Psalm 5:5). Therefore, how we feel about the unjust is a reflection of that which is in the heart of God Himself. However, we must be quick to add that we should not harbor personal ill will, or want others to suffer. Rather, we should pray for their salvation; we should wish the soul of the sinful well. However, we fall into a mistake, if not into a sin, when we allow ourselves to find pleasure in witnessing or dwelling on the humiliation or sorrow of the wicked. On the other hand, the hatred of Christians by unbelievers is a wellverified fact—attested by Scripture, history, observation, and probably by experience. The unjust or wicked hate the righteous because their convictions, lifestyle, inclinations, and habits, are those of the good and pure. In addition, the upright are obliged to condemn the unjust, either in private or in public. The Scripture is replete with examples. John the Baptist was beheaded because of his condemnation of Herod (Matthew 14:1-11).

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Strategic Leadership Corner STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP

DR. JOYCE HARRELL

The word strategic carries the connotation of something planned, calculated and or deliberate. One reference book says, “being strategic is necessary to a strategy, or done because a strategy requires it.” First of all you can’t create a strategy if you don’t have an objective. Our objective as spiritual leaders is to move people onto God’s agenda; therefore, we must be very careful

as we develop our strategy or plan of action. Strategic leadership calls for good organizational skills, good time management and good management of self, which also involves being disciplined. Management of self is being conscious of and proactive in the things that can cause us to lose our focus and get off track. Things like our emotions, our finances, our relationships, temptations, and our mental, physical and spiritual health. It’s vital that we study God’s Word, maintain a good prayer life and strive to apply what we learn from Scriptures. No, I am not implying that by doing these things we won’t have any problems, but the result will

be strength to be in control and not out of control when adversity hits. We are in a spiritual battle and like the military we would be wise to make strategic moves, purposed and well thought out. Dr. Joyce is a layperson under the leadership of Dr. Ticey Brown at the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church; where she serves as the Strategic Leadership Director. Dr. Joyce’s mission is to develop servant-leaders and enhance ministries within the Church; Dr. Joyce is available for one-on-one consultations, small group training sessions and workshops. BROAD RIVERS WITHOUT GALLEYS

"But there the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby." Isa. 33:21 Faith's Checkbook. The Lord will be to us the greatest good without any of the drawbacks which seem necessarily to attend the best earthly things. If a city is favored with broad rivers, it is liable to be attacked by galleys with oars, and other ships of war. But when the Lord represents the abundance of His bounty under this figure, He takes care expressly to shut out the fear which the metaphor might suggest. Blessed be His perfect love! Lord, if thou send me wealth like broad rivers, do not let the galley with oars come up in the shape of worldliness or pride. If thou grant me abundant health and happy spirits, do not let "the gallant ship" of carnal ease come sailing up the flowing flood. If I have success in holy service, broad as the German Rhine, yet let me never find the galley of self-conceit and self-confidence floating on the waves of my usefulness. Should I be so supremely happy as to enjoy the light of thy countenance year after year, yet let me never despise thy feeble saints, nor allow the vain notion of my own perfection to sail up the broad rivers of my full assurance. Lord, give me that blessing which maketh rich, and neither addeth sorrow, nor addeth sin.Faith's Checkbook.

The Naive Widow Flash The naive Widow Flash had extra cash And would flash it subconsciously She left a scent as she came and went For the wolves of her community

Her diamond-studded hat smelled of bloody ham And immediately raised the hungry lion’s brow Now joining the wolves on her trail The lions were on the prowl

She would spend galore at the jewelry store To the lurking wolves it was the butcher shop And the diamond necklace she wore Smelled like fresh pork chops

One Sunday on her way to church A lion attacked and left her a wreck As she sat crying on the bus stop A wolf ate the pork chops from her neck

Around the wrist of the Widow Flash Was a bracelet of sizzling chicken breast Liver dangled from her naive ears The scent of heaven from a young calf’s chest

So the Widow Flash stopped carrying cash And all her flashy jewelry was left at home But she walked at night wearing pants skin tight Through the woods where the grizzly bears roamed

Why Are You Distracted?

by Andrea Andrews It seems to be easier in life to become preoccupied with what we see and how a situation or set of circumstances looks. Human beings are highly visual and tend to lean more toward what they see rather than what they have investigated. Advertisers use the visual aid of commercials, billboards and magazines as a tool to get consumers to buy. Obviously what we see is what we tend to believe. What we see is not always what we get. It is because human beings are so highly visual that we tend to be

driven by our lust for a certain item, lifestyle or person rather than exercising self control or discernment to stop and read the fine print. Marriages are often formed based upon physical attraction. Vehicles are purchased because of how they look and how they will make the driver “look”… all of which are distractions from what is eternal and what is truly necessary to build a relationship with God and execute His work effectively. I’m reminded of Peter’s distraction when he challenged Jesus to prove that He was not a ghost standing on the lake before a boatful of disciples. “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” (Matthew 14:28). When Jesus instructed him to get out of the boat and come to Him, Peter was fine until he became distracted by the wind and filled with fear. (Matthew 14:29,30). It is difficult to ignore the disappointment Jesus must have felt after repeatedly showing Peter and the others prior to that moment who

He was (Thee Messiah) and who He belonged to (Thee Creator God). Imagine how He must feel day in and day out when we (those who are promised the earth and to dwell with Him in heaven) are continually distracted by the things of this world and so filled with vanity that we are willing to do anything to “look” good. Jesus asks Peter (in essence), ‘Why are you distracted?’ and follows it up by reminding him that his faith is “little” (Matthew 14:31) with implications that it must be less than the size of a mustard seed. Have you checked your faith lately? Has Jesus not shown up time and time again to reach His hand out to you? Has He ever broken a single promise? Has He ever lied to you? Then why do you doubt Him? How many more miracles must He perform in your life (personally) before you believe Him? Peace, Love & Blessings, Your comments are welcomed at: theprocesschristiancounseling@ g m a i l . c o m

GOD IS NOT THROUGH WITHT HE FORCE 58TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY Greetings in the NAME that’s above Every Name. When you think of the goodness of JESUS and all that He’s done for You, You just have to Praise the Lord! The Men of Excellence @ The FORCE would like to say THANKS to all who came out to make our Men’s Day such a great success! Our theme: “We Fall Down, But We Get-Up in God’s Supply” was met with Profound Expository Preaching by our invited guests. Rev. Tyrone M. Boyle began our day with a word of assurance that said that our GOD is a GOD of a “Second Chance” (Jonah 1:1-3; 2:1-10 & 3:1). Pastor R. C. Payne (The Full Gospel BC) closed out our Grand-Celebration with a Word

of affirmation “Training Camp For Long Distance Runner” Heb 12:1-3 that said though We Fall Down, God is always there telling us to Get Back Up again! What a Time, What a Time! To our winners of our We FallDown Domino Tournament we again say THANKS. Our 1st Place trophy went to Bro. Patrick Bell, 2nd Place went to our own Bro. David Baxter and 3rd Place went to Bro. Louis Henderson. What a great and grand time of fellowship and fun as “20” or so brother’s came to meet in spirited competition. To God be the Glory for the things that were done among us during this entire Men’s Day weekend @ The FORCE! COMING EVENTS: October marks our calendar for

a time of great anticipation and excitement for The FORCE. *SUPPLY, SUPPLY, SUPPLY!!! Please set your calendars for October 23, 2011. The members and Anniversary committee of Christian Force MBC begin to express the excitement that’s building as we are fast approaching our 58th Church Anniversary. Through all of the ups and downs of Ministry, God has held us in the hollow of His hand and we’re grateful for His many blessings. Our 2011 theme is: “A CHURCH MAKING EVERY EFFORT TO GROW IN GOD’S SUPPLY (Phil. 4:19). God has kept The FORCE for these many years for His Purpose and for His Plan. We’re leaning and depending

on God for we know that all of our help comes from Him (Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts. Zech. 4:6). GOD IS NOT THROUGH WITH US!!! *SPECIAL INVITATION: We invite you to our Wednesday Night BTI Study from 7p-8p. This is a Bible Based, Bible Taught, Bible Inspired time with God in His Word. COME AND BE BLESSED…Respectfully submitted by Sis. Tameka Forte’, Public Relations, Rev. Nathan D. Kimbrough, Sr., Pastor of CHRISTIAN FORCE MBC 1008 N. WHAT ARE YOURS........

Sunday, September 25, 2011 Annual Men’s Day will be celebrated at “Friendly” Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 10101 South Avalon Blvd., at 3:30 p.m. You will not

intensive care unit, observe the flat signal on the electronic heart monitor, unplug the life-support system, and quietly walk out of the room. At that moment, you will find yourself in eternity faceto-face with God. One question He plans to ask you is whether you shared the passions of His heart, or whether you followed your own. How you answer that question will determine the quality of your existence for all eternity. QUESTION: Given the focus of your present passions, is that a pleasant thought? Facts of the Matter: Daily Devotionals.

Church, Pastor Randy Allison; St. Thomas Baptist Church, Rev. Raymond Chandler; Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Virgil Jones; New Revelation Baptist Church, Pastor William Turner; and Union Baptist Church, Pastor Milton Marshall. Well now, who chose Dr. Hardwick for his vocation as a leader/pastor? Glad you asked. He was chosen by God to become the under shepherd to lead God’s people, which is us the church, Praises of Zion. He over-sees, leads, guides, protects, teaches, trains, counsels, he preaches to, he prays with and for us, and he feeds God’s flock with spiritual food, which is the Word of God. There is no doubt in our minds that our Pastor is a leader/pastor according to God’s heart: a man chosen and called by God; anointed and appointed by God; sent by God to lead and rule well; a man who studies the Word of God so that he may represent Christ in his preaching, teaching, and daily living…but most of all Pastor Hardwick is a man who loves God, and who loves God’s people. He is a husband to one wife…Mrs. Thelma Hardwick, our beautiful and radiant First Lady, who has been by his side every step of the way, praying with him,, encouraging him, and lending a helping hand when needed. It is also very important for Pastor Hardwick to remember who called him, and the importance of his service must forever be in the fore-front of his mind. Being a Pastor is an

honor and a privilege and those who are chosen to take up this position in the church must be a special breed. The Pastor is the head of a spiritual hospital, where the sick come for healing and the hungry come to be fed. The eternal lives of human beings lay in the balances. The Pastor is responsible and accountable to God for what he has been given charge over (1Corinthians . John 15:16 “ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit.” (1 Corinthians 12:28-29, Ephesians 4:11). Pastor Hardwick’s sole purpose is to take care of his flock. He is in the pulpit, and he also gets out in his community, to feed the poor, knock on the doors, and travel the various highways and byways, to those who are not attending church. He tries to be as visible and accessible, as is humanly possible for those who have need of him. Therefore, we the members truly thank God, for in Ephesians 4:11-13 He says. “And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors…”, but we know that He gave Pastor Hardwick and Mrs. Hardwick to Praises of Zion. Hallelujah, and thank God. To God be the glory! Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Senior Pastor; Sister Faye Williams, Appreciation Services Chair-Person; and Sister Clarice Holmes, Reporter.

The Pastor Rev. DeShay Ward Sr. and the Bible Fellowship Baptist Church family thank God for being to prepare for another Praise service which is Sunday Sept. 25 th, 2011at 3:00pm. In doing so, we thank God for Sis. Laverne Stallworth who was installed as Mother’s Board President January 2011. She served diligently until June 11, 2011 when the Lord called her home, she is missed very much. Sis Bernice Wooden accepted to serve as President when asked by the Pastor; Sis. Sallie Rush Morris remains as Vice President Rev. Lonnie Hogan from Pennewell MBC will be the speaker for this occasion; His Pastor is Bishop G.L. Bowers. The theme is seek: Colossians 3;1-4. We truly trust all who can and will come celebrate this Homecoming Praise Service. Bible Fellowship is located at 6915 S. Broadway, Los Angeles, CA 90003. Rev. DeShay Ward Sr. Pastor. Reporting, Sis Bernice Wooden.
