American woman in U.S. history to serve in this powerful state legislative role. Before serving as an elected official, Representative Bass became interested in community activism as a child watching the Civil Rights movement with her father. It was at that time that she made a lifetime commitment to effecting social change in her community and abroad. Representative Bass
started and ran the Community Coalition, a communitybased social justice organization in South Los Angeles that empowers residents to become involved in making a difference. Preacher 101 at “The Lift”
DR. DWAYNE E. SHIGG, Ph.D
Greetings, in the name of the Lord. In an effort to service the Christian Community, it is our endeavor to be of service to the pastor by way of empowering newly called and or serious minded assistant and associate ministers. This group of ministers serve, in their churches, at the bequest of their pastors. Wouldn’t it be
a blessing if they had the opportunity and training in how to be of service and value to your pastor? This program is designed to provide just that. Dr. Dwayne E. Shigg, Ph.D authored a book, Preachers 101.Subject matter, things to make you (the newly called, the assistant and or associate) of value to your pastor. Rev. S. “Scuffie” Shigg served as the assistant for a number of years to one of the most demanding, one of the most powerful and one of the most noted pastors of this city, so he knows what it takes to be of value to the pastor. This will be a continuous program presented each 2nd Sunday of the month starting at 7 P.M. There will be a time of lecture and instructions and even a time given for several of the newly called assistants and associated (assigned) to bring a message. The attempt is to strengthen the Church Community by strengthen our pastors, by strengthening the newly called assistants and associates working with the pastors. Those that are interested are ask to call our church office at (323) 778-5438. Remember, “Love is everywhere.” But we are on the southeast and southwest corners of Crenshaw & Hyde Park at 6501 Crenshaw Blvd. in the City of Los Angeles, Rev. Dr. S. “Scuffie” Shigg, Pastor/Organizer.
As the world continues to progress in a direction contrary to God’s Word, we at Greater Mt. Hermon are learning to examine the Word of God for ourselves and stand fast on its principles no matter what the political or social pressures might be. Our generation is facing issues such as homosexuality and abortion and we must know the Word in order to live it. We are blessed this year to have three of the most gifted pastors of Los Angeles as our evangelists. Men that are capable and committed to preaching the uncompromising Word. Opening the revival will be Pastor Ticey Brown of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. On Thursday night Pastor Xavier Thompson of Southern Baptist Church will bring the word. Pastor Roderick O Walker of Tabernacle of Praise Baptist Church will close us out on Friday night. You are welcome to join our church family as we prepare to be revived with 2 nights of prayer, Monday and Tuesday April 1 and 2 at 7 pm. Our church is located at 2302 W 132nd Street (just 2 blocks west of Central Avenue in the city of Los Angeles). Dr. Kenneth A Hall Sr. is our pastor. We look forward to seeing you there.

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL WHERE DO YOU LIVE? Psalm 91:1--Those who live (or dwell) in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. V2- This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my Refuge, my Place of Safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. V4He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. V.10- No evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. V.11For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. What a blessed assurance offered through these verses to Christians who are in submit-
ted and obedient fellowship with Daddy-God. Christians who live, dwell, sit and abide in the protective shelter of the Most High God can confidently anticipate experiencing the awesome blessings of these verses. They can personally declare ‘the Lord is my Refuge, my Shelter, my Stronghold and my Eternal Protector in every situation. He is a wall of fire about me and I am kept by His power. However, these promises are not for carnal Christians; those who do not dwell or live in holy obedience to God; for they follow Him from afar and only come to Him from time to time. Desir-

has lied or died. We will learn that He does have our very best in mind and that He does care about us and everything which concerns us. We will learn not to sabotage His best by demanding our less, which we think is our best. He shall cover us with His feathers as the hen does her chicks. His truth shall be our shield and buckler to strengthen, support, and secure our faith in Him, for His promises are for all times and every circumstance. Daddy-God delivering us from the snare of the fowler means God will save us from the ill-purposes of wicked people. Yes, we will experience
the evil of this world, sin and its temptations. But when we continue to dwell or live in the presence of God, we will not step out of our Christian character and comply with negative situations. Abiding in the Lord will prevent us from experiencing the plague coming near our home which means God’s judgment and punishment. WHERE DO YOU LIVE?....
Holy Mission M.B.C. News
From the desk of Pastor Noah W. Payne
“Living by the word of God.” Gods’ word is all powerful. The word of God redeems us from the sins of the world. II Chronicles 7:13-14 says, If I
shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among
my people; If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face,
and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: DESCRIBE the assurance of the power of the Holy Spirit; REFLECT on the power of God displayed in Scripture; and DECIDE to seek the fulfillment of all that Jesus has promised us.
Luke 24:36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of
an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
IN FOCUS James and Ruth had been married for 35 years. They had two daughters and one son. Their children Jared, Michelle, and Patrice had grown up learning not to trust their father. He always promised to do things but never followed through on his promises. His focus was on hanging out and partying with his buddies. When they were young children, his broken promises always caused them to feel disappointed and sad. Now that they are adults, they do not respect their father. They also have trouble trusting other people. One day while the family was gathered for their mother’s birthday party, their father announced he had made a change. They were surprised when he told them he was now a Christian. His children had heard him say this many times only for him to continue his lying ways. Moreover, he said he wanted to become better at keeping his promises. His children rolled their eyes and laughed. He told them he would prove it. Over the next few months, their father did try to keep his promises, but he soon fell back into his old habits. Promises made are often hard to keep. In today’s lesson, we will see how Jesus kept His promises and fulfilled all Old Testament prophecies. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Jerusalem. Jerusalem was the central religious and political area for Israel. Throughout the Old Testament, Jerusalem is always the central place that the leaders, judges, prophets, and people are affiliated with in some way. This is also true of the New Testament. In the beginning of the book of Luke, he opens with a scene from the temple where Zechariah is worshiping and is told by an angel of the Lord that John the Baptist would be born (1:8-17). Immediately following that announcement, the birth of Jesus is foretold (1:26-38). Throughout the book of Luke, we are given hints that Jerusalem is where all the most important events will occur. So it is no surprise that Jesus predicted that His suffering on the Cross, death, and resurrection would occur in Jerusalem. We end the book with Jesus’ followers worshiping in the temple in Jerusalem (24:52-53). BACKGROUND On the third day after the death of Christ, two disciples encountered the resurrected Jesus on their way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-21, 28-35). Because they were so grief stricken, they were unaware it was Jesus. He opened the Scriptures to them and revealed the Old Testament prophecies that spoke of the Messiah. After such sadness and despondency over the death of
their leader, His words restored their hope. They invited Him to stay with them since it was so late when they arrived in Emmaus. They shared the Lord’s Supper. Once they recognized Jesus, He disappeared. They then returned to Jerusalem to witness to the other disciples about their encounter with the resurrected Savior. Today’s text tells of Jesus’ appearance to the disciples and His ascension. IN DEPTH 1. Jesus’ Appearance to His Disciples Behind Closed Doors (Luke 24:36-43) It’s very late at night when Cleopas and the other disciple arrive back in Jerusalem. Their journey from Emmaus was seven miles. And lest we forget, it is the same day that Jesus was resurrected from the dead. The 11 apostles and others assembled surely had to be surprised to see them again, especially at such a late hour. Cleopas and the other disciple felt the need to share the renewed hope they had experienced after encountering Jesus on the road to Emmaus. In the midst of their conversation, Jesus appeared in the room (v. 36). He said, “Peace be unto you.” The apostles and other disciples were behind closed doors in fear the Jews would cause harm to them (John 20:19). Moreover, it was late at night. They did not hear a knock at the door, the door open, or any footsteps. He simply appeared and greeted them. Jesus had an immortal, resurrected body, which allowed Him to appear and disappear. At the resurrection of the dead we, too, will be given new bodies (1 Corinthians 15:42-50). They were terrified and thought Jesus was a spirit (Luke 24:37). This is in spite of the reports of the two women, Simon Peter, and the two disciples who had just arrived from Emmaus. They still did not believe it was Jesus. More than likely, the apostles thought they were seeing the dead. How else could they explain Jesus’ sudden appearance? Jesus wondered why they were so frightened and filled with doubt that it was actually Him (v. 38). After all the evidence they had that Jesus had arisen from the grave, they still doubted His promise of being resurrected on the third day. Jesus offered as evidence His nailed-pierced hands and feet for the apostles and others to see and
Keep In Mind:
“And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me” (Luke 24:44).

touch (vv. 39-40). Some may not have believed it was Jesus unless they could touch His body. However as Christians, we should “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). While the disciples were overjoyed at being able to see the resurrected Jesus, they still had some doubts about the reality of what they were experiencing (Luke 24:41). Once again, to prove to the believers gathered that it really was Jesus in the flesh, He ate some fish and honeycomb (vv. 42-43). This demonstrated He had a physical body that could consume food. 2. Jesus’ Appearance to His Disciples in Jerusalem (vv. 44-49) According to Acts 1:3, 40 days have passed between Jesus’ resurrection (Luke 24:43) and ascension (v. 44). Jesus and His followers had traveled to Galilee and back before He returned to heaven (Matthew 28:16). In Luke 24:44-49, Jesus and His disciples were back in Jerusalem. (See comments on v. 50 in More Light on the Text.) Jesus had to fulfill all the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah (Genesis 3:15; 22:13; Isaiah 53; Psalm 16:10; 22). He opened up the minds of His disciples by the power of the Holy Spirit so they could understand the Scriptures. Jesus then reminded them that He had previously predicted His suffering, death, and resurrection on the third day (Matthew 16:21; 17:22-23; 20:18-19). There is continuity from the Old Testament through the New Testament. God is faithful and keeps His promises. The apostles and disciples were witnesses to all He did. The words that He spoke were destined to be fulfilled, even before the beginning of all creation. The Great Commission given in Matthew 28:18-20 is repeated in Luke 24:47-48. They were told that “repentance and remission (forgiveness) of sins should be preached in his (Jesus’) name”; the message should be proclaimed “among all nations, beginning in Jerusalem” (v. 47). Our response to Jesus’ sacrifice should be repentance of sins. When we repent, we will be forgiven. This is the core message of the Gospel. God’s plan from the very beginning has been to extend His love and mercy toward all people, Jew or Gentile. However, the Jews had to have the first opportunity to hear the Gospel. In Jerusalem, the people involved in Christ’s crucifixion needed to hear the Gospel message of repentance and forgiveness. This was accomplished at Pentecost (Acts 2). Then the message was to be shared “in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth,” which they accordingly did (Acts 1:8; see also 2:30-32; 10:39-41; 20:21). Jesus knew that His followers were not ready to preach the Gospel to all people and nations. He said, “I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). The promise was to receive power from God
through the Holy Spirit. They had to wait until God decided they were ready to receive this power. God made them wait 50 days (from Easter to Pentecost). They used the time to worship and pray. The promise was fulfilled (Acts 2:4). 3. Jesus’ Ascension (vv. 50-53) Jesus led the apostles and disciples to a village on the Mount of Olives called Bethany. This Bethany is not the hometown of Jesus’ friends: Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. This village was a mile away from Jerusalem and began at the Mount of Olives where Bethpage ended. It was here where Jesus chose to ascend into heaven. Jesus “lifted up His hands and blessed them” (Luke 24:50, NKJV). The blessing is a priestly act in which Jesus places His followers in the care and favor of God. They would need to learn how to completely depend on God for all things. Most importantly, they needed God’s Spirit to help them to understand the Word so as they prepare to go places and preach lives may be transformed. We all need to remember God will provide and take care of us. While He was blessing them, Jesus started to ascend into heaven (v. 51). They watched until He could no longer be seen. Jesus returned to heaven to be with His Father, who welcomed Him. The apostles and disciples were not sad at His departure because He had promised to send the Holy Spirit to be their guide and

comforter. Moreover, they knew one day they would be reunited with Jesus. They began to worship Jesus because He is the Messiah, Savior, Resurrected One, Deliverer, Healer, and so much more. The followers returned to Jerusalem and went to the temple rejoicing for all they had experienced and what would come (vv. 52-53). They had expectations that the Holy Spirit would come just as Jesus promised. They stayed in the temple continually offering praise, prayers, and thanksgiving to God. We, too, should continually worship God and offer praise to His name for being our Savior and Lord. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. What evidence did Jesus offer to the disciples to prove who He really was (Luke 24:39-40, 42-43)? 2. Why did Jesus tell the disciples to remain in the city (v. 49)? DISCUSS THE MEANING People make promises that they do not keep. This can cause us to doubt people when they tell us they will do certain things. What qualities make a person trustworthy? LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY
We learn to trust people based on their word. Jesus proved He is trustworthy because He has fulfilled every promise made. He wants us to trust Him unconditionally and seek to live out His promises. In today’s society, it can be difficult living out the promises of God. What hindrances do you face in seeking to fulfill God’s promises? How can you overcome the stumbling blocks? MAKE IT HAPPEN Jesus appeared to the disciples to prove that He had been resurrected and to give reassurance to them. Sometimes we need evidence before we

believe promises made by others. Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection fulfilled all the prophecies of the Old Testament about the Messiah. He is trustworthy. What promises has God made to you through His Word? There is no need to delay in seeking the fulfillment of God’s promises for your life. This week, write down the promises and corresponding Scriptures. Pray and ask God for guidance in the steps to take. Step out by faith and take action. Every word of God proves true. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Luke 24:36-53 36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. The disciples needed convincing proof of the Resurrection of Christ to believe. Jesus will appear to them many times and in various circumstances and give them sufficient proofs through three important senses of human beings: seeing, hearing, and touching. When they are convinced, He will then instruct them on what to do next before His departure to His Father. It is clear from Acts that the last part of this week’s Scripture text refers to the 40th day after Jesus’ resurrection. Gathered at Jerusalem in the Upper Room that would be their meeting place in the coming days (John 20:19; Acts 1:13; 2:1), the disciples were discussing Jesus’ appearance to Peter and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Then Jesus appeared again to all of them, with the exception of Thomas. This event occurred in the evening of the first day of Jesus’ resurrection. We learn from the Gospel of John that the disciples closed the door for fear of the Jews. Jesus’ standing before them with the door closed is not surprising. Even before His resurrection, He demonstrated
1-888-290-7277 His supernatural ability. Thus, it is not strange that He could suddenly appear in their midst without opening a door or window. Jesus greeted them in the traditional fashion in the Jews’ community (Luke 24:36). “Peace be unto you” was a standard greeting that wished peace and prosperity to the recipient. Jesus was the one who could give them true peace (John 14:27). Not only does He give us peace, but He in fact is our peace (Ephesians 2:14). 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. The disciples were still confused about the Resurrection. Sometimes it is not easy to convince someone about certain realities. Their fear was probably increased at the sudden appearance of Jesus in their midst in closed room. To them, only spirit beings could go through a closed door or a wall so they thought they were seeing a ghost. When Jesus walked on water in Matthew 14:25-26, the disciples thought that He was a ghost then. But as the Son of God, the image of the invisible God, and the creator of all things (Colossians 1:16b), He established the physical laws. These laws bind us, as human beings, but He is not bound by them; He subjected Himself willingly to them during the Incarnation apart from His miracles. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Jesus realized that they are still in a state of doubt. Even after He appeared to some of them earlier, they still remained unsure of His resurrection. Jesus’ question is a reproach to them. They had grounds to believe, but they did not. The disciples on the road of Emmaus had been
NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET privileged to have a lecture from the Old Testament concerning what happened. All this was not sufficient. Repetition is a part of learning, and Jesus as a perfect teacher is patient with His disciples. He will give them other evidence to convince their doubtful hearts. 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. The eyes of the disciples could not convince them that who they saw was their risen Savior. Their ears also could not help them. For when they heard the report they were still confused, though they testified that the Lord has risen indeed and appeared to Peter. Even Jesus’ own voice when He greeted them could not satisfy. Jesus now calls on their third sense, touch. That was important. A spirit can be seen or heard, but he cannot be touched. If Jesus were not resurrected physically, there would have been no bodily resurrection at all. He invited them to touch Him for certainty that He was not a ghost, for spirits do not have flesh and blood. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. Jesus allowed them to examine the scars of the nails on His hands and feet to confirm who He was. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? The experience of touching Jesus brought a response of surprise. However, their joyful amazement was still tainted with confusion about the real nature of Jesus’ resurrected body. With patience again, Jesus is prepared to give them more proof. He asked them for food to eat.
42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them. They had broiled fish at their disposal, and they gave Him a piece of it and He ate it while they likely watched attentively. This last evidence was convincing enough to set the stage for the Lord to teach them from the Scriptures about His life and ministry. 44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. Jesus reminded them of His earlier interaction with them where He talked about the events of His death and resurrection. The Lord told them that everything written in the Old Testament concerning His life had to be fulfilled. The Old Testament is the name given today to the combined documents He mentioned—namely the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms. Jesus highlights a certain difference between His former relations with them with this new phase. “While I was yet with you” refers to His ministry before His death. In addition to His teaching and miracles, He shared all the peculiarities of human life. He suffered hunger, thirst, fatigue, and pain. He expressed emotions, including weeping when Lazarus died. In view of this, He is no longer present with His disciples in the same manner; though, He is with them physically in this moment. He is no longer constrained by the laws of nature, and He has a different agenda. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they

THE MAJESTY OF SPIRITUAL MATTERS For we wrestle not against flesh and blood But spiritual challenges laced with disasters The flock that once grazed on a bountiful hill Has wandered into calmer pastures During the wind storm frightened sheep scattered But when God gives you a land you must cleave Out-wait the thrashing wind of the storm Even devastating winds do leave The Lord declared, “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying And scattering the sheep of my pasture!” They are but a wind storm passing through But know that I am your master My shepherds pray prior to all judgement And my judgement does not bring sorrow My yea is yea! My nay is nay! I do not blow to and fro on tomorrow Ye shall know them by their fruit Are the coffers desperate for grain Are they multiplying my cattle upon my hills Are become the weak link in the chain

might understand the scriptures, Once they accepted the resurrection of the Lord, they were ready to listen to the teaching from the Scriptures, which they could now understand. This happens through the work of the Holy Spirit. With their minds opened, they could grasp the symbolism, prophecies, and archetypes that represent Jesus in the Old Testament. We need God’s illuminating work through the Spirit every time we are going to His Word so He can enlighten our hearts as we read. Similarly, the Ethiopian eunuch needed the guidance from Philip to understand the Scriptures. Intellectual ability to read or study the Word of God is not sufficient in itself. As Ephesians 1:18a (NIV) tells us, “the eyes of (our) heart” need to be enlightened to understand spiritual matters. 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: Jesus summarized for them that the Old Testament speaks about His redemptive suffering on the Cross, His death, and His Resurrection on the third day. We should remember what Isaiah 53 says about the suffering of the Messiah. Jesus Himself referred to the snake lifted up by Moses in the desert as a symbol of His crucifixion (John 3:14 -15), and He also referred to Jonah’s stay in the stomach of the fish as a symbol of His stay in the tomb (Matthew 12:40). These are examples that Jesus may have used to teach His disciples. 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. The goal of Jesus’ death is the atonement of sins. Without the shedding of Jesus’ blood on the Cross, there would be no forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God (Hebrews 9:12, 22; Revelation 1:5; 5:9). This theme of repentance and forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name as recommended here, was used by Peter during the first preaching of the Gospel in Acts 2:38. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things. Jesus’ disciples were eyewitnesses of what happened to Him. They were involved in His earthly ministry. They witnessed His betrayal, arrest, trial, sentence, and death by
The majesty of spiritual matters The season is near for new grass And sheep once again shall cover my hills When the windy shepherd is a storm of the past crucifixion and now His Resurrection. They can go and preach with conviction concerning these things they knew. 49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. In spite of all that they knew about Jesus, the disciples cannot be effective witnesses if they are not empowered by God Himself. Jesus entreats them therefore to be patient and stay in Jerusalem until the promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit is fulfilled. In John 14:16 and 16:7b, Jesus promised the disciples that after His departure, He will send the Holy Spirit. This is the promise of the Father. After they have been filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter refers to it as the fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:21). We know from Acts 2 that the disciples waited at Jerusalem for 10 days in the Upper Room in prayer until the Holy Spirit visited them. As soon as this happened, Peter began preaching. God was faithful to His promise, and the disciples were also faithful in keeping the commands of the Lord. 50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. When Jesus had finished instructing them, He led them to Bethany. This scene occurred on the 40th day after His resurrection. In this passage, it is difficult to differentiate the event that happened the first day and what happened the 40th day. However, it is probable that Jesus’ eating to convince them of His

identity (v. 43) happened the first day, and verse 44 could be the beginning of the narrative of the 40th day’s events. Regardless, in the last earthly scene of Jesus with the disciples, He lifted up His hands and blessed them. He prayed for them, their safety in an evil world, their unity for a convincing testimony, and He blessed them to have a fruitful ministry (John 17). It is recorded in Acts 1:12 that Jesus’ ascension took place at Mount of Olives. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. As Jesus blesses them, something strange happens; the Lord is lifted up into heaven before their eyes. The One who could appear and disappear suddenly was proving to them again that He is really Lord of lords and that He rules over the physical principles of this world. A grave could not hold Him captive, and gravity could not limit Him. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: Before the Resurrection, they referred to Jesus most often as Teacher or Master. After His appearance to Peter, they called Him by the title “Lord” (v. 34). And now they are filled with joy, ready to worship Him. They knew without a doubt that they were with the Lord of lords, the Son of God incarnate. He deserved their worship, and they will dedicate their lives to His service, even to the point of death. However as He just recommended to them, they went back to Jerusalem to wait for the promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit. The fulfillment of the promise will be the green light for the start of their ministries. 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. After their return from Bethany, they were continually in the temple praising God until the Pentecost festival 10 days later.

THE PROCESS....

The Day Adam Took a Bite
“She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” – Genesis 3:6
by Andrea Andrews Sometimes it is challenging to relate ALL sin to ONE mo-
ment in history. Rarely do we stop and think to ourselves, “Wow! If Adam had remained strong and refused to take a bite of the forbidden fruit, we wouldn’t know murder, adultery, broken homes, disease, homelessness, addiction…” However, we most certainly SHOULD stop and consider God’s original instructions to the first Adam. Understanding history and gaining knowledge of both the events and
their contribution to modern society makes it less likely for history to repeat itself; for us to repeat the exact mistakes of those who have come before us. For example: As we all reflect on the events leading to the crucifixion and resurrection of the Messiah (also referred to as the Second Adam – the One who got it right), we must consider those who rejected Him – believing Christ to be a false Teacher, Prophet,
Healer, Deliverer even though His demonstrations were authentic. Are we exempt from reenacting these roles? Are we prepared for the second coming of Christ? How will we know it is really Him? The world is far more complex and full of the kinds of distractions the people of Joseph & Mary’s time never even dreamed of. Yet, those in that time did not KNOW Him. The Bible insures/assures that “Even the
elect might be fooled”- Matthew 24:24. The point? If we have not committed to drawing extremely close to God through the reading of His Word, we are predestined to be like those who did not know Jesus the Christ in the span of His initial coming. Furthermore, we are destined to reject Him upon His return. Peace, Love & Blessings. www.theprocesschristiancounseling.com.
Earth. Evil spirits may attempt to victor over the followers of the Lord; but they shall not be able to prevail. Even though we will experience life’s challenges; it is not without the knowledge and monitoring of God who will keep us from being eternally destroyed. So, IF WE LIVE in obedience
where God’s presence dwells, we will be covered with the cloud of God’s glory and have the protection of the all-sufficient God who is able to do all things for His people. This definitely includes causing us to enjoy intimate, (close, cherished and personal) communion with He who is God, the
Creator of the Universe, Jesus Christ who is Lord of all and with the Holy Spirit of God who is the Guide and Keeper of those who are in fellowship with the Lord. ! Join us for our 1st Sat. Fellowship, April 6, 2013, 1:15 p.m. at the U S Bank Community Bldg., Crenshaw and Slauson, Los Angeles, CA.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Leadership is Service/Ministry
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
Being a leader has its perks, and its problems. Leadership is not about being liked, in control and being patted
on the back, nor is leadership about being a servant of the people, being treated badly by people and trying to please everyone on every hand. But, spiritual leadership is about being a servant of the Lord to meet the needs of the world. Being a leader puts you in the position, to be a guide, to show the way, and to move people on to God’s agenda. To be effective as a leader you must be someone that people are willing to follow. Does your leadership team really know
that you care about them, that you have their best interests at heart, that your intent is that they may grow spiritually, and be established in the faith? As Spiritual leaders we are servants of our King, and we are to implement His commands for His glory. We must realize that we don’t work for ourselves; we are not to promote our desires, but the desires of the one that we stand for. What type of things are you busy with, what things have your attention? We should be busy with Holy
things and willing to serve no matter the cost. Yes leadership has a cost, it can cost you time, money, friends and family, but when you are moving in the will of God, He will sustain you. When you assume a leadership position, you will soon discover that it is not about you at all, but all about God and those that you give leadership to. Are you determined to build up someone, willing to give up something that is for their advantage and not yours? What will you supply, what
will you go out of your way for so that someone else may grow, and be developed as a servant/leader? Dr. Joyce is a lay-person, under the leadership of Dr. Ticey M. Brown, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves as the Strategic Leadership Director. Dr. Joyce’s mission is to develop servant-leaders and enhance ministries within the Church. Dr. Joyce’s contact info is, joyce-harrell@sbcglobal.net or (714)878-4854.
He That Hath An Ear… “Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.” – John 18:10
LADY DR. PHELENCIA A. WHITE
The other day I was speaking with a group of ladies and based upon what they shared, I told them, “We have some Peter’s in the room...Some ear cutters.” These would be those who still believe in exerting physical strength when facing life issues rather than using the
weapons of spiritual warfare which are not carnal. (2 Corinthians 10:1-6; Ephesians 6:1113). Of course, a moment of light-hearted laughter erupted as they internalized their own individual shortcomings. In preparing to write the Holy Spirit led me to our foundational text. Simon Peter, the “ear cutter”, was the disciple who confessed that Jesus was the Messiah and upon this intimate truth Jesus set to build His church. (Matthew 16:1518) In the moment of “ear cutting” which has been marked
as an insignificant moment of defiance by some scholars, this same Simon Peter, drew His sword which we know for us is the representation of the Word of God (Hebrews 4:12). As he “smote” with his physical sword the actions of Heaven were loosed in the earth commencing the “strike with a firm blow to defeat or conquer” the religious system of the day. (Matthew 16:19) However, it should be noted, that through a demonstration of God’s grace and mercy toward mankind, Jesus “restored”
the servant’s ear making him whole again. Whenever any limb is “severed” or “cut” blood is released. Blood is a symbolic expression of both realities--life and death and blood becomes a prominent symbol in the Scriptures for moments and places of transition. It is interesting to note that the right ear is the same ear along with other “right” side extremities as recorded in the Torah that the “Kohen” or High Priest would have blood placed upon him symbolizing that transitional moment of no
longer being a private citizen but becoming a representative of God and a public leader. (Exodus 29:20; Leviticus 8:2324) Jesus was the High Priest and the servant’s name was Malchus, a name of Israeli origin meaning, “my king, kingdom, counselor”. Yes, the ear was cut off by an act of “flesh”, but restored by the REAL High Priest with the “power of God”. Those who wanted to have access to God were no Continued On Page 15
