Cynthia Perry Ray Foundation Celebrate 10 Years of Community Service
SIS. KATHYE JENKINS
Being a vision of the Founder and President of the Gardena Valley and Vicinity Ministers’ Wives and Ministers’ Widows Mrs. Kathye D. Jenkins, the Cynthia Perry Ray Foundation was presented to the Gardena Valley Sisterhood as an outreach in which to help provide religious, educational, social and economic support to improve the quality of life in our communities and beyond. The overall theme is “Providing a Ray of Sunshine with the Gift of Encouragement” This vision of mission was named in honor of a great leader and noted educator, Dr. Cynthia Perry Ray, widow of the late Rev. Dr. Sandy F. Ray, Pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church of
Brooklyn, New York. The CPR Foundation was organized by President Jenkins on Saturday September 9, 2000 and established on Sunday April 30, 2001 with Dr. Ray on present on both occasions along with other notables in attendance. On May 14, 2001, with her work done, Dr. Ray went from labor to reward as a well done faithful servant of the Lord. We are thankful she lived to see the vision begin to unfold before her untimely passing. Clothing and toys have been donated to shelters, fashion shares and women transitional facilities, finances to the needy, adoption of classrooms, recognition awards for faithful community service and educational support have been given from the foundation. The Articles of Incorporation was filed for a 501c3 with the Internal Revenue Service listing the foundation as a non-profit, charitable organization. On Saturday April 9, 2011, 12 noon, at the Nakaoka Community Center 1670 West 162nd Street in Gardena, we will celebrate 10 years of Community Service through the Foundation with a Awards Musical Luncheon. During this luncheon we will salute 4 individuals for their continued
steadfastness and inspiration to the community: Sister Mildred Hunter, Church Administration, St. John Baptist Church; Sister Margaret McCrary, Senior Citizen Advocate, Messiah Missionary Baptist Church; Sister Meeka Robinson-Davis, Entrepreneur of One of a Kind Hats, West Angeles Church of God in Christ; and Brother Ralph Sutton, Community Development Coordinator, Good Shepherd Missionary Baptist Church. We will also dedicate the Gloria G. Taylor Scholarship Fund. The late Mrs. Taylor was the wife of the late Pastor Isam Taylor of Faithful Service Baptist Church and served as the first chairperson of the Foundation. An afternoon of music and tributes has been coordinated through the spirit of the Lord. Music for the luncheon will be provided by Pastor Clarence Kirkwood and the Male Chorus of First New Rising Sun Baptist Church and other guests. Advance paid reservations are required. THE BETHEL CHURCH Presents “HEALING FOR THE SOUL” MUSICAL The Bethel Church of Pasadena, in conjunction with D’Veal Family and Youth Services and the F.S. Stevens Family Life Center, presents a community-wide gospel musical entitled “Healing for the Soul”. This one-night only production is on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at The Bethel Church, located at 1972 North Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena. This musical will pay special tribute to “families affected by violence”. Youth violence is an epidemic in our urban communities. Homicide is the second leading cause of death among adolescents. Within the African-American community, the rates of homicide are even more staggering. Violence has a tremendous impact on the health and well-being of our communities, and on our youth in particular, and needs to be viewed as a public health issue. The emotional, physical, and psychological toll on those affected is immeasurable. Unfortunately, the tragic and violent loss of a child seems to have become an acceptable, normal, and routine part of life. The Bethel Church strongly believes in the power of praise and in its ability to change our outlook on life’s situations and struggles. Just as it has always been, music is a vital component of our culture. Music is not only a form of celebration but also a form of self-expression by which each generation communicates its sorrows, grief, anguish, and the turmoil of the soul. The church has been given the authority and power to come against violence as a force of evil and command that “We shall live and not die!” As representatives of the Kingdom of God, we are compelled to minister to those who lack hope, faith and who are grieving deeply from the senseless loss of loved ones at the hands of violence. The “Healing for the Soul” musical is our next action step to address violence from a spiritual perspective and an opportunity to minister to our invited community guest through the power of spiritual music and praise. The Bethel Church is also excited and pleased to have D’Veal Family and Youth Services, a community-based social service agency, working with us in this community effort. D’Veal has over 17 years of experience providing counseling services, which includes specializing in violence intervention and prevention services. D’Veal’s trained professional staff will be in attendance at the event and available to assist anyone desiring to talk about their issues of loss, grief and/or needing any additional supportive services. Staff from the F.S. Stevens Family Life Center will also be joining us in this effort. Our Psalmist will be the anointed Carolyn Hopkins of the Victory Bible Church, Pasadena, in concert with the Bethel Music Ministry, saxophonist Jay Boykin, Elder Larry W. Robertson of Long Beach, Kingdom Worship Center Ensemble featuring Pastor Ji Nelson of Riverside and M.I.G. of Pasadena. If you require transportation or additional information regarding this inspirational evening of ministry in song, please contact The Bethel Church at (626) 794-3136.

Think About This Ruth went to her mail box and there was only one letter. She picked it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the envelope again. There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter: Dear Ruth: I’m going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon and I’d like to stop by for a visit. Love Always, Jesus. Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. ‘Why would the Lord want to visit me? I’m nobody special. I don’t have anything to offer.’ With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets. Oh my goodness, I really don’t have anything to THINK ABOUT THIS ..... Continued On page 6

We the church family here at “The Lift,” mourn the Home Going of our very own Minister Henry Wafer. Minister Wafer faithfully and diligently served God and our church for almost two decades under the tutelage of our Pastor the Reverend S.”Scuffie” Shigg. Minister Wafer became known as a spokes person for “The Lift.” During a fellowship whenever a program called for a response
he organized the car washes the first and third Saturday of the month, he coordinated the Annual Men’s Fashion Show and Dinner, and for several years served as President of the Pastoral Affairs Committee. After living a life of homelessness and chemical dependency, Minister Wafer was lead to the Lord and the Lord blessed him with a faithful and loving wife Edith and four loving daughters and because of this Minister Wafer did not have a problem sharing his love for Jesus Christ with anyone. The Home Going Service was held Saturday April 2nd, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Love Lifted Me M.B.C. We Thank all of those who attended and supported the family. Please continue to pray for the Wafers and the family of “The Lift” as we continue to pray for you. Remember Love is everywhere, but we are on the southeast and southwest corners of Crenshaw and Hyde Park in the city of Los Angeles. Reverend S. “Scuffie” Shigg Pastor/Organizer Sis. Kelli Reporting

“Change of Roles” Lord, thank you that when we experience changes in life we can handle them because of the preparation YOU provide for us beforehand! This is especially true when there is a “Change of Roles” in our lives as Caregivers, Providers, Protectors, Confidants, Nourishers, and so forth for our families! Certainly, this is the case when it pertains to our children! As they are growing up, our impending “Change of Roles” in their lives is not fully understood! Because of the times of aggravations and frustrations associated with parenting, we look forward with anticipation to the day when they will grow up; without having a clue as to the intensity that change will produce! The reality that we will no longer be privy to the full scope of their lives is not fully imaginable or realized. Nor is the reality that we will quickly be reminded by society that they
are now adults and information regarding them can’t and won’t be shared with us. Neither is the reality that we will no longer hold the “Reins of Control” to ensure that “All is Well” in their lives! Yes, they grow up as they were born to do! In a sense regarding our children, we acted like Lord YOU can sit over there, I got this! I will take care of that! I will do this and that for them! Even though it was true then, it certainly resounds in our hearts and minds now that when we were busy “Filling” those roles in their lives, it was really YOU working through us! Also, as we experience the manifold “Change of Roles” and are no longer the primary one to care, provide, protect and be the listening ear for and to them; we learn we must accept our children’s decisions and allow them to experience the blessings or to suffer the consequences of their decisions! Realizing even

then, that YOU are there during those times of their lives with outstretched hands extended to them inviting them to seek YOU! When the “Change of Roles” happens, we are faced with two choices regarding our children. Either to worry about them and whether they are making the wisest decisions for their lives, if they are
being as careful as we would want them to be, if they are choosing the “Right” friends, etc! Or, we can choose to EMOTIONALLY release them into Your Loving, Protective and Strong Hands! Making a choice to trust YOUR love for them which is greater for them than ours could ever be! Choosing to trust YOU to take care of our grandchildren and all that concerns them! By choosing to trust YOU with “Our Cherished Loved Ones”, it will usher us into a place of rest and peace. We will be reminded that YOU have a purpose for their lives as YOU do for our lives! We will be reminded that YOU will shine forth “Brightly” in their lives to attract their attention to be drawn to YOU; because YOU desire fellowship with them as YOU do with us! When we EMOTIONALLY release the “Reins of Control” over their lives that we DON’T have any way; we are free to grow and develop in our current stage of life. Life
for us is not over because there is a “Change of Roles” in our lives! We are reminded as long as there is life in our bodies; there is the potential for growth and development in our lives! Thank You Lord that YOU will watch over our cherished loved ones! Thank you Lord that YOU are with us to teach us to let go as we need to! Thank you Lord that when the “Change of Roles” occurs in our lives; that we really can experience the awesome “Gift of Peace” by choosing to trust YOU~ We Love YOU LORD!!!! FOOD FOR THOUGHT
Unity in the Body
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
Unity! What does unity in the Body of Christ look like? Leaders working together are what make unity in the body obvious! Unity in the body is made evident by people going in the same direction, and striving to accomplish the same goal! Unity demonstrates a oneness or
a singleness of heart. When unity is not prevailing in the Body of Christ it is a signal that there is a breakdown or a malfunction occurring in the body. Unity, has been defined as; a condition of being one, something whole, harmony, singleness among individuals and agreement. When the? Singleness of heart and a oneness of spirit is best demonstrated by those whose only goal is that Jesus is magnified and God is glorified. There are no hidden agendas, and no selfish motives. Unity is best demonstrated by those when they esteem others better than themselves. Ministries who recognize that they are all members of the same body will
have no problem being unified A healthy ministry will demonstrate unity, and express that their only concern is that God’s plans are identified and brought to fulfillment. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The CHRISTIAN FORCE M.B.C. family of believers extends our hearts and hands to those who are seeking a Word from the Lord. There are many that’s gone out among us today who are seeking their own glory and praise (Romans 16:17-20) but the “FORCE” is here. The Word of GOD says that in the last days men will be lovers of themselves, scoffers, covetous/ greedy and proud having a form
With plums I pluck out the bruise Eating spoiled spots can be bad news With friends I apply compassion to their sore But flee if they’re rotten to the core
I’m suspicious of sprupy fruit in a can And shiny fruit on a vendor’s stand As a lover of apples, I know quality lacks When apples are sold from ten-pound sacks
There are inherent risks in fruit and friends Their true value is beneath the skin A good friend can give a troubled mind peace Good fruit to a hungry body is a feast
I pick my peaches like I do my friends Peaches have fuzz and friends have sins Though each can be a healthy treat I take the bitter with the sweet
Life has many bumps, grinds, and curves Selecting friends and fruit are best reserved Examine behind the bright shine and happy grin The beauty, if any, is beneath the skin

The FORCE Welcomes You with Open Arms of godliness, but denying the power thereof (II Timothy 3:1-5; II Peter 3:3-4). That’s why we believe that God has prepared us for time like these. Our ministry focus is to Up-Lift and Build those who are seeking to please God in their Christian walk. How do we do this? By studying the Word. Paul says to Timothy, study to show yourself approved unto God a workman that needed not be ashamed (II Tim. 2:15). God’s Word will Teach, Keep and Guide us as we travel through this barren land. The Holy Spirit is then “The FORCE” that makes all things possible. HE’s in control and we the CHRISTIAN FORCE family wants to line-up our every effort to please and honor HIM. GOD instructed Zechariah to write, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit saith the Lord of host” (Zech. 4:6). CHRISTIAN FORCE realizes that in this “new” world of thinking, it’s not about us. Our steps are ordered by the Lord and it’s only by HIS Spirit that we can do ALL THINGS. Come

SUNDAY SCHOOL LESSON PRAISE BUILDS US UP Bible Background • JUDE 17-25 Printed Text • JUDE 17-25 Devotional Reading • 2 CORINTHIANS 4:1-12
AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: TELL how God is able to sustain and keep us in our Christian life; BE assured that God is able to sustain and keep us; and THANK God that He does sustain and keep us.
Keep In Mind:
“Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen” (Jude 2425).
Focal verses:
KJVJude 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
IN FOCUS Kevin was having a rough time. He was catching flack at work, from extended family, and among his friends. After allowing his faith to grow lax, he reaffirmed his commitment to Christ, and now it seemed that the moment he gained momentum in his walk, trouble hit. His friend Darnell kept telling him he had become a drag. His siblings thought he was being sanctimonious at family gatherings when he did not want to participate in the revelry. His coworkers shunned him in the lunchroom, fearing they would get another sermon. Kevin felt as though he had hit an all-time low. His wife Kimberly stepped in to encourage him. “Honey, you know, I was praying for you today,” she said. “You should memorize: ‘Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved’ (Psalm 55:22, NRSV).” Kevin took the verse with him where ever he went. When he needed encouragement, he recalled that Scripture and began to praise God because God would do what His Word promised. As we walk this Christian journey, our faith will be tested. Today’s lesson is a reminder about the power of God and how we are to remain in faith through the expression of praise unto Him. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Jude. He was the half-brother of Jesus and was also known as Judas (not Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus). Jude was referenced in Matthew 13:55 and Mark 6:3 as a point of familiarity to the community that raised questions about Jesus being “the Christ” (the Anointed One), the promised Messiah. Along with his brothers, Jude was not persuaded initially about Jesus’ deity. He sought VIP treatment, and he tried to cajole Jesus to show off to provide evidence (Matthew 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-35; Luke 8:19-21; John 7:1-10). However, Jude and his other brothers were among those sequestered in the upper room awaiting the arrival of the promised Holy Spirit as instructed by Jesus (Acts 1:14). Interestingly, in opening his letter, Jude does not refer to himself at all as the halfbrother of Jesus; he names himself, “The servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James.” False Teachers. Jude’s letter addressed a time when there were a lot of strange doctrines and heretical teachers who led people astray from the faith. This apostasy was similar to what Paul addressed in Acts 20:29-31; 1 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:1-9, 13; 4:3; and the tone and manner of Peter ’s message in 2 Peter 2:1-22. False teachers were dangerous because they had tasted of the heavenly gift, turned away from it, and misconstrued the truth for their own willful purposes. BACKGROUND Scholars vary on the exact date Jude wrote his epistle (letter); it is believed that his letter was written anywhere from A.D. 50 to A.D. 80. This book of the Bible is believed to have been written after Peter’s death but before the destruction of Jerusalem, and then later circulated. It is also generally believed that Jude’s letter was not targeted to a particular church, but meant as a general epistle to warn saints about false teachers who were misleading those who were not rooted in the church. Although Jude strongly chides those would be infiltrators of the truth, the purpose of his letter was also to encourage those who would read it to recall the words of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jude exhorts them to stand strong in the face of opposition. IN DEPTH 1. A Warning for Believers (Jude 17-19) In Jude 1-16, readers are earnestly warned to be on the lookout and contend or fight for the faith which was delivered to and received by them (v. 3), a major theme of this epistle. Recalling how in times past those who lived irreverently and with no restraint were dealt with, the writer lovingly calls attention to the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ that these times would come (Acts 20:29-31; 1 Timothy 4:1-2; 2 Timothy 3:19). Jude further extends this love by giving believers a sense of belonging to the family of God through the lordship of Jesus Christ (v. 17). The warning for believers is that these mockers of the truth caused confusion and division among the saints in the end time. These false teachers were “devoid of the Spirit” (v. 19, NRSV), indulgent in their own ungodly lust, and troublesome for the church of Jesus Christ. 2. A True Foundation for Believers (vv. 2023) The foundation for believers is the love of God as displayed through His plan of salvation—the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary’s Cross and His imminent return. Faith in Jesus Christ alone is able to keep believers during this time of great apostasy and the heat of affliction. Jude admonishes each individual who should read or hear this letter to get a firm footing on what they believe about Jesus, knowing that their labor will not be in vain (cf. 1 Corinthians 15:58). He places special emphasis on sacredness of their faith by calling it their “most holy faith” (Jude 20). He further implores them to give the utmost attention to building this faith by praying in the Holy Ghost as Paul instructs in Romans 8:26 and Ephesians 6:18. The Holy Spirit comforts, consoles, and keeps

18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
believers strong in the love of God. As believers maintain focus on the love and mercies of God, they are to look to God with hope of the promised life to come with the Lord Jesus Christ, which is to sustain them in troubled times. These believers are also called upon to reassure and build up those who are wavering in the faith and help them to stand strong (see also Romans 15:1- 2). They are told to strive to save others, who are wavering, by putting the fear of God in them in the hopes of bringing them back to their spiritual senses. As well, they are to hate and reprove the very appearance of evil in the flesh as they keep themselves unspotted from the world (Ephesians 5:11-13, Jude 23). 3. A Benediction of Praise to God for Believers (vv. 24-25) Paul’s use of the phrase “now unto Him” (cf. Romans 16:25; Ephesians 3:20) denotes the absolute power of God, through Jesus Christ, to provide stability for believers. Jude similarly provides a strong conclusion to his letter to believers by pronouncing a blessing upon Christians in the early church. He commends them to the One who is able to keep, preserve, and sustain them from the harm of falling short or falling away (Jude 24). He further states that because of the remission of sins at His expense, Jesus is able to present them faultless and without blame in the presence of God’s glory (Colossians 1:22-23). The writer ascribes to God the Father and our Savior all the glory, majesty, sovereignty, and authority due to Him forever. This praise and adulation foretells the future that is to come for the saints of God, reflected in John’s revelation (Revelation 7:11-12; 19:6-8). This is the foundation of the hope we have as believers which enables us to “not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap if we faint not” (Galatians 6:9). MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Jude 17-25 17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; In this verse, the conjunction “but” opposes the recommended attitude to the behavior of the heretics denounced in verse 16. Jude urges the readers to “call to mind” the things announced by the apostles about the “mockers.” It is important for believers to cultivate the habit of going back to the Word or the apostolic teaching. 18 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. In the use of the imperfect tense (which represents an action as continued, repeated, or habitual), the word “told” (Gk. lego, LEG-o) stresses the repeated nature of the apostolic warnings. (See warnings like Paul’s in Acts 20:29-30; 1 Timothy 4:1-3; 2 Timothy 3:1, and Peter’s in 2 Peter 2:1-3; 3:3-4.) Jude is referring to a specific subject in the apostolic teaching: the prophecies about the “last time” or “end time.” The Greek word asebeo (as-eb-EH-o) means “impiety” or “ungodly,” and it can translate as “desires for lusts” or “evil things.” The false teachers’ desires are ungodly. The expression “in the last time” is equivalent to “in the last days” (see 2 Timothy 3:1; James 5:3; 2 Peter 3:3). The existence of the mockers is thus a proof that the last days are near (see Matthew 24:24; 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, 9; 2 Timothy 4:1). In the New Testament, the period of the last days is both future (2 Timothy 3:1) and present (1 Peter 1:20; Hebrews 1:2). It is partly realized through the coming of Jesus and partly awaiting consummation. The prediction about the things to come includes present fulfillment and prolongation into a future date which cannot be set. 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit. Jude uses contemptuously the word houtos (HOO-tos), which means “these.” He sets it in contrast with “but you, beloved” in verse 20 (see vv. 12, 16, and 17). Then he goes on to describe the impious. They are called “they who separate themselves,” meaning that they create division or make a distinction between themselves and other people. They see themselves as superior. They are arrogant and controlled by their own natural desires (Romans 16:17; Galatians 5:20). They claim to be spiritual, but they do not have the Spirit. The Greek psuchikos (psoo-kheeKOS) means “sensual” or “natural,” and it is the antithesis of pneumatikos (pnyoo-mat-ik-OCE), meaning “spiritual” (cf. 1 Corinthians 2:13-15; 15:4446). The description of the impious people confirms that in them the apostolic predictions are fulfilled. 20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, 21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. These two verses constitute one long phrase. The main verb of the phrase is “keep” (Gk. tereo, tay-REH-o). It is in the imperative voice. It is surrounded by participles, two in front (“building” and “praying”) and one after (“looking”). Thus, the main point of the exhortation is the relationship of the believer with the love of God (Gk. agape theos, ag-AH-pay THEH-os). Here, the readers are urged to stay within the sphere of God’s love. It was God’s love which drew them to Himself (see v. 1). They must abide in that love. We abide in His love by keeping His commands (John 15:9-10). For the second time, Jude calls the readers “beloved” (Gk. agapetos, ag-ap-ay- TOS), and on each occasion

it is in contrast to the false teachers (see v. 17). With this expression, he shows a genuine deep affection for the readers. He gives them instruction on Christian life. If it is followed, the instruction he gives will preserve them from contamination by the heretics. The readers are instructed to build themselves up in the apostolic teaching (cf. Acts 2:42; 20:32). The use of the present participle “building up” (Gk. epoikodomeo, ep-oy-kod-om-EH-o) suggests that the edification is not limited to being inserted in the construction. It needs the will to remain and do the given task. Building up is a continual process. Believers must study the Scriptures continually if they are to grow in the faith and abide in God’s love (cf. Hebrews 5:12; 2 Timothy 2:15). The “most holy faith” is a reference to the Scriptures, the Christian revelation handed down by the apostles (as in verse 3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). 22 And of some have compassion, making a difference: 23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Two groups of people are mentioned here. The first group is those whose faith is wavering (Gk. diakrino, dee-ak-REE-no, meaning “be of two minds,” “doubt,” or “waver”). The readers must show compassion to them. Showing compassion is not a passive attitude. True love tries the impossible: to pull the undecided out of the fire of judgment that is waiting the lost. Compare Amos 4:11 and Zechariah 3:2; fire is the figure of judgment in Matthew 13:42, 50; 18:8; Revelation 19:20. Many different ways must be found to persuade them. The expression in Jude 23, “pulling them out of fire,” denotes urgency. The second group includes the heretics. They are not at a hesitation stage; they are being pulled away by the stream of apostasy. The readers must exercise great care while getting alongside them, lest they themselves become “spotted” (Gk. spiloo, spee-LO-o), which means “defiled” or “polluted” (cf. 2 Corinthians 7:1). They are to love the sinners and hate their sin (cf. Matthew 18:17; 1 Corinthians 5:11; Titus 3:10; 1 John 2:10-11). 24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Jude ends his exhortation with heartfelt adoration to the One who is able to keep the believers from falling. We have here the announcement of the great victory and the great assurance of the redeemed. God has the “power” (Gk. dunamai, DOO-nam-ahee), which means to “be able.” The phrase “to keep from falling” (Gk. aptaistos, ap-TAH-ee-stos ) means “stop from stumbling” (cf. 1 Peter 1:5); it has the same root as the verb “fall” in 2 Peter 1:10. Believers are not left without help. God can guard them so that they do not stumble. He will make them stand before His glory. We will stand “faultless” (Gk. amomos, AM-o-mos, see also Ephesians 1:4; 5:27; cf. 1 Peter 1:19) and “in jubilation” (Gk. agalliasis, agal-LEE-as-is) because we are in Christ. 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen. Doxologies (words of honor, praises) are usually addressed to God in order to give Him “glory” (Gk. doxa, DOX-ah), which refers to “the brilliance of God’s being,” which is what He reveals of His perfection. The word “majesty” (Gk. megalosune, meg-al-oSOO-nay), “dominion” (Gk. kratos, KRAT-os), and “might” (Gk. exousia, ex-oo-SEE-ah) are aspects of His glory. To God alone belongs the glory! He is the only God.

MEN’S HEALTH FORUM ON PROSTATE CANCER Trinity Holds a Health Forum on Prostate Cancer LOS ANGELES, CA – March 24, 2011 - Trinity Baptist Church and the Trinity Community Development Corporation (TCDC) will hold a Men’s Health Forum on Prostate Cancer at Trinity Baptist Church located at 2040 West Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018 (corner of Jefferson Blvd and Cimarron Street). The forum will be held on April 15, 2011, from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm and is open to men, women and families, who can be affected by the tragic disease. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among men. AfricanAmerican men have the highest occurrence of prostate cancer and the highest death rate than any other group. According to the American Cancer Society, in 2010 some 230,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and 30,000 will die from it. One out of every four African American men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer compared with one of six for the general male population. AfricanAmerican men also are 2.5 times more likely to die from the disease than Caucasian men. While much research is ongoing
to determine the reason for the disparity in occurrence, the primary reason for the disparity in deaths is poor prostate health which results in delayed detection – a failure to be screened for early detection. The forum will feature the award-winning documentary film “The Silent Killer-Prostate Cancer” produced by Andre Campbell. The forum also will feature discussions by prostate cancer survivors and physicians on topics such as “What Is the Prostate and Prostate Cancer”, “Should I Be Screened?”, “Latest Advancements in Treatment”, “Side Effects of Treatment”, “Non-cancerous prostate problems”, “Good Nutritional Health for Prevention”, and “What Women Should Know”. The forum also will provide opportunity for questions and answers. Refreshments will be served. This program is offered to provide educational and awareness on prostate health and prostate cancer for the men and families of our local community. offer. I’ll have to run down to the store and buy something for dinner.’ She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents. Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least.’ She threw on her coat and hurried out the door. A loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk, leaving Ruth with grand total twelve cents to last her until Monday. Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her meager offerings tucked under her arm. ‘Hey lady, can you help us, lady?’ Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans, she hadn’t even noticed two figures huddled in the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them dressed in little more than rags. ‘Look lady, I ain’t got a job, you know, and my wife and I have been living out here on the street, and, well, now it’s getting cold and we’re getting kind of hungry and, well, if you could help us. Lady, we’d really appreciate it.’ Ruth looked at them both. They were dirty, they smelled bad and frankly, she was certain that they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to. ‘Sir, I’d like to help you, but I’m a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I’m having an important guest for dinner tonight and I was planning on serving that to Him.’ ‘Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway.’ The man put his arm around the woman’s shoulders, turned and headed back into the alley. As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart. ‘Sir, wait!’ The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them. ‘Look, why don’t you take this food. I’ll figure out something else to serve my guest.’ She handed the man her grocery bag. ‘Thank you lady. Thank you very much!’ ‘Yes, thank you!’ It was the man’s wife, and Ruth could see now that she was shivering ‘You know, I’ve got another coat at home. Here, why don’t you take this one.’ Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over the woman’s shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street...without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest. ‘Thank you lady! Thank you very much!’ Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried too. The Lord , was coming to visit and she didn’t have anything to offer Him. She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox. ‘That’s odd. The mailman doesn’t usually come twice in one day.’ Dear Ruth: It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat. Love Always, Jesus.

What is Fasting or the Purpose of Fasting?
God IS Faithful
by Andrea Andrews This morning I was blessed with an email that touched my spirit and served as confirmation about the joy I’ve held onto during (what most would perceive to be) challenging times in my life. While reading the email I immediately began to pray that others who received it would maintain an open heart and mind to not look at the vessel (pastor) who the email featured, but instead to focus in on the message God spoke through him. It is often risky
to support the quotes, theories, sermons, missions, etcetera of people whom have been the target of media attacks whether justified or not because the world has manipulated our souls (mind, will and emotion) to accept whatever the world tells and shows us. This habit has provoked us to condemn instead of pray… The email spoke of an interview with Pastor Rick Warren and among other things spoke of his wife’s battle with cancer and how the prayers and petitions of countless believers had not healed her, but had strengthened, inspired, and birthed a ministry within her. I rejoiced in his testimony and was reflective upon my own personal relationship to cancer. In my early 20’s God called me to be the caregiver of a family friend who’d been stricken by Leukemia (the same form of cancer that claimed the life of my grandmother). In my 30’s God blessed me to work with the top pancreatic cancer specialist in the nation as a patient advocate and
as a minister for My Father in heaven. In the fall of 2004, my son’s 4th grade teacher went out on sick leave for cancer treatment. On April 28, 2005 my mother was diagnosed with cervical cancer which later spread to her uterus and ovaries. My prayer and petition (along with many others) before God was this… ‘Lord, if it be thy will to heal my mother, touch her body and heal her, but if it be thy will to take my mother, please make her suffering short.’ Beyond all else, I knew that God was and still IS faithful… Coming upon the anniversary of my mother ’s departure from this world (April 29, 2006), I rejoice in God’s faithfulness. My mother lived a year and a day to her diagnosis. She experienced two rounds of chemotherapy and a course of radiation. She experienced no side effects from either (highly unlikely for most patients battling cancer). She was only physically impacted for ten days – enough
to where she was confined to a hospital. She was in thee best of care and surrounded by thee best God sent. For those who are battling cancer, I pray that you are strengthened, empowered, inspired, enduring, comforted and cared for by the Spirit of God. I pray that you experience peace in the midst of grave pain. I pray that you see the face of God when you feel like giving up. I pray that you have thee best of care and endless resources for thee best of treatment. And, for the loved ones, family, friends and caregivers of those who are directly in the battle… I pray that you petition God for His grace, mercy, peace and provision while on the battle field. “Happy moments, PRAISE GOD. Difficult moments, SEEK GOD. Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD. Painful moments, TRUST GOD. Every moment, THANK GOD.” – Pastor Rick Warren. By FAITH… Peace, Love & Blessings

One of the most powerful weapons of spiritual warfare that God has given to His children is fasting —a way of crucifying the flesh or denying your flesh the basic sustenance of food. Although fasting will weaken you physically, it will highly enlighten you spiritually. *** It is important to note that fasting should be combined with prayer for utmost effectiveness*** Fasting is a form of spiritual discipline that informs God that you are serious about repentance. Fasting is a significant part of your Christian walk just as praying and reading the Bible. Fasting is for everyone who desires to draw closer to God. When you fast, you do not have to always give up food — It can be anything of importance to you that is a sacrifice to give up, such as entertainment, shopping, tv, etc. Whenever you fast, you need to pray and seek the Lord; otherwise you are just depriving your body of food and not getting in touch with what the Holy Spirit is trying to tell you. Basically, you don’t want your fasting to be in vain. Although fasting is not “commanded” in the Bible, it is expected of all believers during their walk with Jesus Christ to fast. For me, it helps me to identify with Jesus. In Mathew 6:17-18, Jesus did not say, “If you fast”...but instead...”when you fast” this is the revelation through scripture that fasting is expected but not commanded. Reasons for Fasting according to Isaiah 58:6-7 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? When thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 1) To bring justice 2) To undo heavy burdens and break the yoke of bondage 3) To free the oppressed and loose the bands of wickedness 4) To share food 5) To provide shelter for the poor 6) To clothe the naked 7) To provide for one’s family Other Reasons: 8) To mourn and repent: Daniel 10:2-3; Esther 4:3; Isaiah 58:5; Joel 2:12-13; Zechariah 7:5 9) To Receive God’s instructions: Exodus 34:28; Acts 9:9; Acts 13:2 10) To die to the Flesh: Isaiah 58:3 , 11) For humility and deliverance from bondage: Psalm 35:13; I Sam 7:3-14; Ezra 8:21-23 12) To resist the devil’s temptations: I Cor. 7:5; Luke 4:1-2 13) Due to the lack of food: I Kings 19:8 14) For health and healing: Isaiah 53; Psalm 35:13 15) For spiritual power to cast out demons: Matthew 17:18-21 *PREPARATION* The first thing you to do before you fast is set a definite time period for your fast. Will your fast be 1 meal, 3 days, 7 days, 21 days, or 40 days? The second thing you need to do is decide which type of fast you will undertake. If you are going on a prolonged fast, please don’t begin your fast immediately... but gradually cut down on your food intake and then begin your fast (that way it doesn’t “Shock your System”). Also cease drinking caffeine products (coffee, tea, cocoa, latte, soda and so forth) a few days prior to beginning your fast. Caffeine makes us hungry. *PRECAUTIONS YOU SHOULD TAKE DURING THE FAST* Drink warm water instead of cold water and do not drink too much water at one time. Do not drink milk, or other beverages. (Follow these procedures on All Types of Fasts, except the “The Absolute Fast”.) Do not take excessively “Hot Baths or Showers” during a prolonged fast - Because this may cause “Dizziness”. But do take a bath or shower regularly, because fasting causes impurities to be secreted through the pores of your skin therefore, causing an embarrassing odor “Do not engage in excessive work or exercise.” WALK, READ, PRAY, AND WORSHIP DURING WHAT USED TO BE YOUR MEALTIMES IN ORDER TO OVERCOME EATING TEMPTATIONS. WHEN THE TEMPTUOUS ONE COMES...BIND THAT SPIRIT IN THE NAME OF JESUS! SOME SYMPTOMS YOU MAY EXPERIENCE Headache, Nausea, Low fever, Sleeplessness, and Stomach Pains IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE SYMPTOMS “DO NOT TAKE MEDICINE FOR THEM” IT WILL SUBSIDE IF YOU PRAY! BREAKING THE FAST: DO IT SLOW, START WITH SOUP, VEGATABLE AND FUIRT JUICES UNTIL YOU BUILD YOURSELF BACK UP. *TYPES OF FASTS* 1). Normal fast: Abstaining from All Solid and Liquid Food except for Water. 2). Absolute Fast: Abstaining from both food and drink. *You should never stay on this fast more than three days unless under the direction of the Holy Spirit. * 3). The Partial Fast: Abstaining from just certain foods. You can live on just certain foods during the duration of this fast such as bread and water, or you may choose to fast (give up) a certain meal each day. 4). The Daniel Fast: consists of fruits, vegetables, and water. 5). The Juice Fast: consists of fruit and vegetable juices only. 6). The Television and Entertainment Fast: setting aside TV, Radio, Newspapers, etc, and other forms of entertainment to seek the Lord. 7). The Water, Honey and Lemon Fast: a cleansing fast. Squeeze 1/2 lemon in a cup of hot water and add honey to add flavor. This can be done for an extended fast. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Matthew 6:17-18
has no sorrow that heaven cannot heal. Another great soldier has gone home to get his reward....You are in our prayers and our thoughts at this time... We continue to lift all of our sick and shut in on our ever-increasing prayer list, please intercede for each other in prayer. You are always invited to Greater New Unity! Serving as Pastor with the heart of a servant, and filled with the precious Holy Ghost is our very own Rev. Randy Allison. Reporting has been yours truly, Sis. Arlene Andrews, and until next week, don’t forget to keep RAISING THE PRAISE!!
