PRAISES OF ZION CELEBRATES 58TH APPRECIATION SERVICES FOR DR. & MRS. J. BENJAMIN HARDWICK The members of Praises of Zion proudly announce the celebration of services marking 58 years of service to the Master for our Pastor and wife, Dr. & Mrs. J. Benjamin Hardwick. Please set aside the following dates so that you may come and share in this joyous occasion with us. The festivities will begin Sunday, September 15th, 22tnd, and October 6th, 2013. All of these services will begin at 3:30 pm. We are located at 8222 So. San Pedro Street, in Los Angeles, Ca. You may reach us by telephone at (323) 750-1033. The theme we have chosen is: “OUR PASTOR: CONNECTING PEOPLE TO JESUS” (Matthew 9:36-38). Please acquaint yourselves with the following schedule, and govern yourselves accordingly. We will open with the following invited guests: Sunday. Sept. 15, 2013: New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Pastor Melvin Hill, and Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, Pastor Earl Pleasant. Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013: Greater Zion Church Family, Pastor Michael Fisher; Greater New Light Baptist Church, Pastor Patrick Ross; New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Sonja Dawson; and Jericho Baptist Assembly, Pastor Anthony Smith. October 6, 2013, the following guests will help us close out the celebration a mighty way: Greater New Unity Baptist
DR. & MRS. J. BENJAMIN HARDWICK
Church, Pastor Randy Allison; Calvary Baptist Church, Pastor Virgil Jones; New Revelation Baptist Church, Pastor William Turner; and Union Baptist Church, Pastor Milton Marshall. Well now, whom do you suppose chose Dr. Hardwick for his vocation as a leader/pastor? Glad you asked. He was chosen by God to become the under shepherd to lead God’s people, which is us, who make up the church, Praises of Zion. He over-sees, leads, guides, protects, and teaches, trains, counsels, he prays
with and for us, and most importantly of all, he “compassionately” feeds God’s flock with spiritual nourishment, which is the Word of God. Pastor Hardwick is a man who loves God, and who loves God’s people. He is a husband to one wife… Mrs. Thelma Hardwick, our beautiful and charming First Lady, who can be seen by his side, praying, and encouraging him every step of the way. Following carefully in the steps of Jesus, Pastor Hardwick has faithfully gone through the city and byways, teaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom to sinners, and laying hands on those who are wrapped in disease and sickness. He is able through the Holy Spirit to meet challenges of this age head on. When he looks into crowds, and congregations he has compassion on them, because he knows they are bound, harassed, and helpless by the enemy. He sees them to be exactly what they are: sheep without a shepherd. With no hesitation, he realizes “The harvest is abunContinued On Page 3

Baptist Church of Los Angeles, during the morning worship; and Pastor Ivan S. Pitts, Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana, dur-
ing the afternoon service. Dr. Ross’ clear, anointed, powerful ministry of the Word of God has been a great blessing to the GNL church family. Under his leadership, the church family is growing both spiritually and numerically. Dr. Ross’ training, integrity, and well-developed managerial skills have also been recognized by the church community at large, as he serves as a Vice-Moderator in the Los Angeles District Association, as well as an Area Vice-President and Treasurer for the Western Baptist State Convention of California. The women of GNL have embraced, with great enthusiasm, a monthly “Women’s Fellowship”, during which they are taught by First Lady, Earleen D. Ross, regarding issues that are especially important to women. Sister Ross has also established “Distinguished D.I.V.A.s” (Daughters of Integrity, Virtue and Authority), an adolescent mentorship ministry for young ladies between the ages of 11-18. This continuous course not only focuses on the physical aspect of maturity and womanhood, but also covers etiquette, charm, healthy self-esteem, character building, discovering gifts and talents, and numerous other topics. Once again, YOU are invited to join us in this ‘day of love and honor’ for this wonderful man and woman of God. The Leadership Team of GNL serves as the Coordinators for this celebration.

“YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO PROVE”
PASTOR DESMOND PRINGLE
Romans 12:2 gives us clear instructions for a specific conclusion. Many times when this passage of scripture is referenced it’s the “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” that is highlighted. But this transformation that Paul speaks of is for a specific purpose. That purpose is that we would PROVE what is that good, acceptable and perfect will of God. It’s amazing how on point the word of God is and how many times various disciplines and schools of thought that do not even acknowledge the power and
presence of God give validation to His statutes by default. I was recently conversing with a brilliant doctor who was talking about neurological mapping. While this discipline deals with health and disease with respect to the brain it also deals with how behavior, habits, and practices contribute to a person’s brain structure. Thinking a certain way or on certain things for extended periods of time causes grooves in the brain that are visible. In other words, what one listens to, watches, speaks and thinks literally affects brain function. As we were talking I couldn’t help but praise the Lord that without a laboratory, outside of the hallowed halls of a university, without statistics or any concrete measurable data the Apostle Paul by unction of the Holy Spirit fundamentally proposes a process that is many centuries later ascribed to by skilled scientists of the
day. According this letter Paul writes to the Romans, one can be transformed by renewing one’s mind. By taking a proactive posture and an intentional disposition as it pertains to what one is absorbing and processing mentally, he or she can be a candidate of change. This is so comforting and also underscores the premise of repentance. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been wrong. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve done a certain thing a certain way. An enlightened mind is a changed mind . A changed mind is a mind that is going in the opposite direction from which it was once headed. This passage of scripture then makes us to know that not only will one have new information but one becomes new. One literally transforms. In other words Continued On Page 13

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL WE MUST Must is defined as being required or compelled to, as by the use or threat of force. Therefore, since God’s conclusions are accurate and fair; “We Must” be concerned with His evaluation of our lives. It is a must that He determines that we are persons who love Him and who seek to live in obedience to His Word. “We Must” also submit our lives and ourselves daily to Him to be used for His glory. It is important that when we encounter an attack from Satan that it is a direct result of DaddyGod and Satan’s conversation about us, as they had about
Job. Job 1:7- And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: KNOW how and why God created human companionship; APPRECIATE that God takes an active role in creating loving partnerships; and IDENTIFY spiritual practices that honor strong family bonds.
Keep In Mind:
“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him” (Genesis 2:18).
Focal verses:
Genesis 2:18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them; and KJV
IN FOCUS “There used to be a time,” the singer on the radio says as she sings about her dislike for being alone. Sharon knew that feeling all too well. Being new to the Dallas area, she was apprehensive about moving but understood what it could mean for her career. As she sank down onto the floor of her empty living room, her furniture located on a moving van stuck in winter storms somewhere in the Midwest, she identified with the singer’s feelings of being alone. She noticed a church within walking distance from her new place. Perhaps she should attend one of their services. Maybe not, she convinced herself; she did not know anyone. The knock on her door interrupted her thoughts. “Who is it?” she asked. It was her neighbors with a pot of soup and freshly baked bread, asking if they might join her. She hesitantly opened her door. They saw her empty living room, apologized, and invited her over to their place. At their apartment they ate, laughed, talked, and made plans for the weekend to show Sharon the neighborhood. Companions were created by God for people to be in relationship with one another. As representatives of the body of Christ, the church has an obligation to become inclusive, for the Word of God teaches that man should not be alone. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Adam. The first man; created by God, in God’s image. God made Adam from the dust of the ground, breathing the breath of life into his nostrils. God gave Adam the responsibility for the created order. Woman. The first woman; created by God to be a companion to Adam, the first man. The book of Genesis. The book of beginnings: The beginning of the creation of the universe (Genesis 1); the creation of the world and living things (Genesis 1-2); the creation of mankind (Genesis 1-2). BACKGROUND The book of Genesis is the first book of the Bible and the first book of the Pentateuch. The Pentateuch is the first five books of the Old Testament. The Jewish label for these books is “Torah,” which means teaching, while English Bibles refer to these books simply as the “Law.” Written by Moses, the leader of the enslaved Hebrew people (Exodus 1), the book of Genesis is a book about beginnings—the beginning of the universe, the beginning of creatures, the beginning of mankind, and the beginning of God’s activity in the life of the world. “In the beginning God created…” (Genesis 1:1) “And God said… and God made… and God blessed… and God saw…” (Genesis 1 and 2). IN DEPTH God Provides Companionship (Genesis 2:18-25) Adam named all of the creatures God had placed before him, but felt he was alone. God recognized this, placed Adam in a deep sleep, and created a companion for him. Unlike the
whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
animals and birds God created from the ground, Adam’s companion was created from one of his ribs. Adam named his companion Woman because she was “bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh” (Genesis 2:23). The creation of Woman introduced mankind to the concept of friendship. According to The American Heritage Dictionary, a friend is “a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.” Adam knew Woman because “the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man” (Genesis 2:22). Adam liked Woman because he said, “This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh” (Genesis 2:23). Adam trusted Woman “because she was taken out of Man” (Genesis 2:23). This first pair was also the first marriage; the text indicates that part of God’s purpose for humans includes the marital union of man and woman. Moreover, the Bible illustrates other friendships that are not unique to male and female relationships. There was the bond between Jonathan and David recorded in 1 Samuel 18. “And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house. Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle” (1 Samuel 18:14). The book of Proverbs teaches one how to be a friend: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). The Bible describes mankind’s friendship with Jesus Christ, provided we are obedient to Jesus’ commandments (John 15:14). Humans were not created to live in isolation but in community. Companionship is one vital dimension for human flourishing. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. Why does God say it is not good to be alone (Genesis 2:18)? 2. When should man and woman compete with one another (v. 24)? DISCUSS THE MEANING God created in pairs so the creations would be dependent on one another. Human dependency begins with an acquaintance, which leads to a friendship, which leads to a relationship. Relationships are with one another and with God. How might this impact your relationships moving forward?
LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY Those of us who are healthy, have strong family ties, and are regularly connected to a church family can take companionship for granted. There are people among us who are shut in and shut out because of illness, incarceration, low self-esteem, or poverty. Their circumstances exclude them from continuous human contact. With the popularity of social media, they are ignored and shut out because they do not have the existing technology, negating their efforts to maintain face-to-face contact. MAKE IT HAPPEN Commit to regularly telephone and visit with a person who is shut in. If they desire, show the person the existing technology and how to use it. If your church has a prison ministry, become involved. If your church is located in an inner city, become involved with the community. Be genuine and display the love of Jesus. FOLLOW THE SPIRIT What God wants me to do: REMEMBER YOUR THOUGHTS Special insights I have learned: MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Genesis 2 18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Here we see the combination of the name “LORD God.” The personal name for the God of Israel is represented by the four-letter consonants YHWH or Yahweh, also called the Tetragrammaton, while the name El/Elohim was used for God throughout the ancient Near East. The Hebrew word for “Lord” or master, adonai (aw-dah-NAHY), is substituted for the Tetragrammaton in English translations of the Bible in all capital letters to reflect the ancient Jewish tradition of not pronouncing the name of Israel’s deity out of deference. Ancient Jewish scholars inserted the vowels “a-o-a” in adonai between the consonants to remind the readers to substitute adonai when they read YHWH aloud. God was concerned for the man’s social well-being and declared that the man (Heb. adam, aw-DAWM) should not be alone. Technically the man was not alone; God, along with the other heavenly beings (Genesis 3:22), was present with him. The announcement serves more as an explanation for why God made the other creatures. The verb asah (ah-SAW) means “to do” or “make.” God is depicted as making the creatures by hand in chapter 2, in contrast to chapter 1, where God spoke and Creation came into existence. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. The Hebrew verb for “form” or “fashion” is yitser (yits-ZER). The Lord God formed all of the living
creatures (Heb. nephesh chay, neh-FESH khah-E) in the field and in the air out of the soil or earth (Heb. adamah, adawMAW). The image of God in 2:18-19 is as a potter at the wheel spinning and molding the creatures into shape. The prophet Isaiah drew upon this analogy to connote the relationship between God and the people (Isaiah 64:8). Isaiah expressed that we are all intimately related to God as living creatures formed by Him. God brought the creatures to the man to name them. This included the beasts of the field and the birds of the air. The Hebrew noun chay (khah-E) means “living thing” or “animal” and conveys a wild beast that has not yet been tamed or domesticated. It also contrasts the difference between the man and the animals. 20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. The Hebrew for “help meet” is ezer kenegdo (ay-zer keNEG-doh) and without the preposition, ke means “help” or “succor” in front of or opposite to. However, with the preposition, the translation is “a help corresponding to him”; in other words, equal and adequate to himself. A more literal translation would be a help (over) against him. The esteemed medieval Jewish commentator Rashi noted that

if a man was worthy, he would have a partner (ezer) who was a help to him. However, if he was not worthy, she would be his adversary (kenegdo). By naming the animals, the man asserted his authority or dominion over them, but this also included a caretaker role. Also implicit in this verse is that by naming the creatures, the man would find one with whom he would be compatible. The man’s expectations probably rose and fell with each presentation of a new creature to name and define its function. The Hebrew verb “find” (matsa, mawTSAW) means to “attain to” or “find,” as in a thing sought. However, he did not find the one that he was seeking or that God intended for him—one that corresponded to him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof. The Hebrew noun tsela (TSEH-law) is translated “rib” or “side.” The term is translated “rib” in verse 21. However, the exact meaning is unknown. God had determined that in order to create a help meet compatible with
S

the man, He would have to take a different route. The new creature would have to consist of substance taken directly from the man. God closed (Heb. sagar, saw-GAR) the place where the rib was taken, leaving it as if nothing had occurred. God is the surgeon par excellence who performs the task with precision and finesse. 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. The verb in Hebrew translated in verse 22 as “made” is not the same verb as in verses 18-19 that describes God as making or forming. The verb here is banah (bawNAW) and means “to build,” as in a house or to perpetuate or establish a family (Ruth 4:11), or to “fashion,” as in to give a particular shape or form. The latter is applicable to verse 22. God fashioned or shaped the rib into the form of the being that was the opposite of the man. The act of forming or shaping objects conjures images of simpler, plainer creations. However, to fashion suggests a higher form of creation where the creator has paid more attention to the details. One can imagine God being especially intentional about getting just the right
1-888-290-7277 partner for the man this time. The understanding of “to build” in place of “made” is also appropriate as the creation of one like the man would be the necessary piece for beginning to build up the human family. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. The man’s response to the new creation was pure joy. He had finally found one like him who was made of bone (Heb. etsem, ehTSEM) and flesh (Heb. basar, baw-SAWR). As if to emphasize that this creation was the one who would finally bring him the companionship he sought, he named her Woman (Heb. ishshah, ishSHAW) because she was created from the side of the man (Heb. ish). This song of praise celebrated the culmination of God’s creative acts in the garden. What God declared was not good in verse 18 (Heb. lotov) had been remedied in verse 23. The creation of the woman introduced gender difference. In 1:27 God created male and female, biological and physiological sexual categories. Man and woman are characterized by masculine and feminine gender roles in 2:23.
NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. The Hebrew verb azab (awZAB) means “to leave,” “forsake,” or “loose.” For the man to leave his parents explains why males abandon or reject their kin to marry and start new families with their female partners. The Hebrew word for woman, ishshah (ish-SHAW), is the same word for wife. The Hebrew word for “cleave,” also cling or keep close, is dabaq (daw-BAK). It represents here the sexual union of the man and his wife. The differences inferred by gender are muted by the unity of the man and woman. The separateness of the two when God took the man’s bone and flesh to create the woman has now been reunited through their becoming husband and wife. The two becoming one flesh (Heb. basar, baw-SAWR) symbolizes this union. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. We come into this world naked. Children have no inhibitions about being naked. Parents will often permit toddlers to walk around in nothing but a diaper. Caretakers think nothing of bathing children together in the same tub.
The fact that adults don’t make an issue of this allows children to feel comfortable and free in their nakedness. The nakedness of the man and woman represented their childlike innocence at the time of their creation. They were not ashamed (Heb. bosh, boosh) of being naked (Heb. arome, aw-ROME). This lack of shame attested to their lack of sin at this point. They could look upon each other without any need to cover or hide themselves. After the fall, God clothes them when their sin brings about shame (Genesis 3:20). Definition - to talk idly, especially about the affairs of others; go about tattling.(Gossip) Unfortunately the content is usually about idle talk or rumors, especially about the private affairs of others. The problem with rumors is that they are usually way out of proportion to the truth and are hurtful and destructive, causing all kinds of dissension with the Body of Christ. Proverbs 6:16-19 (kjv) 16 These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19 (amp) 16 These six things the Lord hates, indeed,
seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look [the spirit that makes one overestimate himself and underestimate others], a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that manufactures wicked thoughts and plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who breathes out lies [even under oath], and he who sows discord among his brethren. Proverbs 20:19 (amp) 19 [He who goes about as a talebearer (a person who spreads gossip, secrets, etc., that may cause trouble or harm.) reveals secrets; therefore associate not with him who talks too freely.] Meaning - “A gossip betrays a confidence, so avoid a man who talks to much.” THIS DOESN’T MEAN THAT
YOU CANNOT CONTINUE TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR FRIEND, BUT IT DOES STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF NOT LETTING GOSSIP DOMINATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP. The root of a lot of gossip is jealousy, wanting to find something wrong with people who have it better than we do. The Bible has a lot to say about gossip. Proverbs 6:16-19 names seven things that are detestable to God and three of those have to do directly with gossip. James dedicates an entire chapter to taming the tongue and using wisdom to sow peace not dissension. [James 3:5-18]. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the
tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. 11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? 12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear ol-
ive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh. 13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and Continued on Page 13 G O S S I P ........

VALUE YOUR TIME
JASON TROY LEWIS
Time is one thing that is impartial, unbiased and has not respect of person. Everyone is allotted the same hours within the day to be productive and fruitful. No matter what continent you were born on, country you are a citizen of, providence or state you currently reside, county and city you
now live, we all have the same twenty-four hours to make the most out of daily. So ask yourself, “Am I wasting mine?” Before you answer the question, think intently as to how you spend the bulk of your time daily. Is your day spent pursuing goals that will assist in your development as a person and help catapult you towards ascertaining your goals in life? Or do you fill your itinerary with meaningless activities that keep you in a holding pattern and play no part in achieving the desired outcome of your life? I think it’s safe to assume that everyone is guilty of wasting time to some extent, but the extreme danger is to waste too much time with meaningless activities. Consider that during wasteful moments, opportunities may
be present and our focus needs to be shifted into preparation for those occasions. I propose that as a first step in valuing your time you should establish a ‘Not-to-do-list.’ Forbes suggest, “Strategy is the art of sacrifice. That’s why you may consider creating a larger clearing for what really matters by first identifying, and then avoiding, what matters the least. Your time is a treasure to be invested. Creating a list of things that you are not going to do, allows you to invest more of your treasured time on the few things that matter the most.” Article by: Jason Troy Lewis, Executive Pastor, The Redeemer Church of Los Angeles 1631 W. start talking about Steve. This pattern keeps going on till each person starts to hate the other person. So much gossip is in the air that other people are starting to believe the things they hear. Spouses find out and start questioning whether this is true or not. Steve and his friends go to church and everyone starts looking at them and giving them bad looks. They are wondering why then find out that all the gossip is in the church. All get so embarrassed that they leave the church. All due to a little word called gossip. This will be the last example, lets say a husband and wife are having a conversation. Someone in the household heard this conversation and could not believe what they were hearing. They then go and tell a friend, which tells a friend, and so on. This gossip then gets back to the couple who were talking, looking at each other they wonder which one of them talked about there

personal business. This then leads to a argument, which then leads to trust issues. Each one not knowing if they can trust the other one with personal stuff again. They begin holding all this negative stuff inside and this leads them to separate and possibly divorce. All this because of gossip. My final note on this is, stay out of peoples business, don’t believe everything you hear. If you want to know something you go directly to the source or you just look the other way. If you have nothing to say then keep your comments to your self. This is why God stresses not to talk or listen to gossip. Remember he is all knowing, He knows what will happen and what could happen. This is why it is so important to trust in Him and let him lead the way. EXTRA VERSES TO HELP: Eph 4:25, Eph 4:31-32, Matt 12:34-35 skip 36 then read 37. 1Cor 6:1-8 Continued From Page 3

the individual makes a dramatic and thorough change. As we take inventory of our lives and see areas that need transforming taking counsel in the word of God is a formidable option to exercise. As our thoughts are rerouted and conformed to HIS we become the expression of HIS good, acceptable, and perfect will.

without hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. - Have kids give a couple of examples of gossip in there own life.- Regardless of the reasons behind gossip, God offers freedom from the trap of gossip. As we mature in our walk with our Lord, we grow in His grace and are able to say, “I would rather boast about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest in me. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (II Corinthians 12:10). It feels far more rewarding to admit our weaknesses, faults and problems and to recognize God’s power and grace over them, than to wear a false sense of power that doesn’t even last until the next opportunity to gossip. Lets talk about some examples of gossip. Steve goes around and starts telling people about his friends secrets. Steve’s friends find out and get very mad at Steve and they

WHEN THE ONE YOU LOVE AND TRUST IS UNFAITHFUL
When the Lord began to speak through Hosea, the Lord said to him, “Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.” – Hosea 1:2-3
byANDREA Andrea ANDREWS Andrews It’s nearly impossible to imagine that someone we love and have married could ever possibly betray us by commitContinued From Page 4 WE MUST .........
attempt to please the Lord. Of course not self-righteously, but humbly, we should ask God to remember the deeds which we have done. Thus, questions we must answer are: 1) Although we DEFINITELY DO NOT DESIRE TO EXPERI-
ting adultery. A young and powerful man of God asks: “Why did satan use my wife?” – the answer so very obvious and yet illusive. We must recall how much Christ loved each one whom He called to be closest to Him…His disciples; in particular, His love for Peter: But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. – Matthew 16:23 And, who can forget the
betrayal of Judas? There will be many betrayals we face as Christians during our journey. Yet, those where the heart is so deeply rooted tend to be thee most painful and difficult to overcome. In marriage (when we truly consider God’s model of marriage), we know that forgiveness is NOT an option. It is a command. We also know that love is a command. We are to forgive and love no matter
what. Hosea was a righteous man – an obedient servant of The Lord. He was commanded to do what was against the custom of the Jews when he married Gomer – the wretched and unfaithful adulterous. His heart was even pierced with a level of agape love that inspired him to forgive her repeatedly and take her back – a display of our adulterous behavior in our relationship with GOD
who continues to take us back no matter how often we betray Him and entertain false idols (homes, cars, positions, titles, money…). What right have we (the truly unrighteous by thought, word and deed) to be so stone hearted – so critical that we choose not to forgive? To love? This message is for
ENCE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS; are we living lives that God can brag on and call Satan’s attention to our lives? 2) Are we being fruitful and producing acts of obedience that we can offer up to Him as Nehemiah did? 3) Do we have offerings of achievements that we have gained as a result
of advancing His Kingdom of Righteousness that we do not hesitate to bring to His attention? We are warned over and over of Romans 14:12-KJ-So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. NLT- Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. Because Daddy-God has given
us the Gift of Free Choice and Will, let’s make sure that we choose wisely so that in return, we may present to Him Gifts and Actions of Righteousness which will be pleasing to Him! Bless You! Join us for our 1st Sat. Fellowship, Sept 7, 2013, 1:15 p.m. at the U S Bank Community Bldg., Crenshaw

A HEART FOR THE LOST
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
(Leadership From the Inside Out, Kevin Harney)
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
The Holy Spirit challenged me this week, to become more involved with my neighbors. There are many needs around me, but I’ve been so involved with church work, I pushed those needs aside and said to myself, I will get to it later. Shame on me. I am now determined to make a change. I pray this article will encour-
age you also to display the love of Christ to your neighbors. “Compassion. It marked Jesus’ life. Look into the Savior’s heart. “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matt. 9:35-36). This is a prelude to Jesus’ statement that “the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few” and to his call for us to “ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest fields” (vv. 37-38). Jesus’ heart broke for those who hadn’t yet received his amazing grace
and experienced the Father’s love. As Christian leaders, we are to reflect our Savior’s heart. This means we are to allow our hearts to be broken over those who are lost. Our hearts should be so affected that we are compelled to pray and to enter the harvest fields. One indicator that our hearts are beating strong is when we are moved by compassion and reach out to those who are not yet part of God’s family. Too many leaders have become so busy at their churches or in their ministries that they have no time to connect to those who don’t know Jesus. We can become isolated to the point that we almost never relate with people who are lost. We need to hear Jesus’ call to pray for harvest workers. And
we need to offer ourselves to this Great Commission work. It’s time for self examination: Print a copy of your work and personal schedules for the last week and for the coming week. Get two highlighters of different colors. With one highlighter, mark all the time in the past week that you spent doing church work or connecting primarily with people who already know Jesus. Then with the other highlighter mark the time you spent primarily with those who are outside of God’s family. Evaluate whether you are intentionally spending significant time with people who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus. Next look at the coming week. Mark the times you plan to do church work and be with believers. With the other highlighter, mark
the times you have blocked out to go into the harvest fields and connect with those who are spiritually disconnected. If the exercise shows that you need to spend more time with those who are not yet in God’s family, make changes in your schedule. If you find this exercise helpful, do it again next week and make it a regular part of your planning.” Dr. Joyce is a lay-person, under the leadership of Pastor Ticey Brown, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves as the Strategic Leadership Director. Dr. Joyce’s mission is to develop servant-leaders and enhance ministries within the Church; she is available for workshops and seminars. HOW DARE YOU, GOD? (PART VI) “And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead, and the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.” Exodus 9:7 (KJV)
LADY DR. PHELENCIA A. WHITE
The PHENOMENON that exists WHEN GOD DECLARES (Is. 40:1-31) that man’s impossibilities SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED by reason of HIS WILL ALONE (Matt. 19:26 ; Luke 18:27 ;
Mark 10:27 ) is beyond human comprehension. (Is. 55:8-13; Is. 61) OUR FAITH (Heb. 11:1-3; James 1:1-8) EMPOWERS us (2 Tim 2:15 ; 2 Tim. 3:16 -17; Luke 24:4448; John 14:12 -18; John 15:26 -27) to ACCEPT (John 7:37 -38) the SOVEREIGNTY of OUR GOD in ALL THINGS through CHRIST JESUS (1 John 5:4-8) even in the midst of GREAT ADVERSITY (2 Cor. 4; Rom. 8:35-39; 2 Tim. 3:1213) In GOD’S NEXT EDICT He PUTS HIS PLAGUE PER-
FORMING POWER upon Pharaoh’s LIVESTOCK, (Ex. 9:1-3) His cattle, horses, donkeys, camels, oxen and sheep. ANIMALS USED for TRANSPORTATION, PLEASURE and/or PROFIT. In God’s STRATEGIC PLAN He doesn’t kill the animals suddenly, instead He PLAGUES THEM with GREIVOUS MURRAIN (infectious diseases). The implication here does not limit the types or quantities of the diseases. Just like LOOSE LIPS gone wild ALL
OVER TOWN, this plague SPREADS with the POWER PACKED VENGEANCE of GOD (Rom. 12:17-21) from one animal to the next UNTIL THEY WERE ALL OBLITERATED. (Luke 20:9-16) This gave PHARAOH the OPPORTUNITY to ATTEMPT TO PROVE ONCE AGAIN that GOD wasn’t who He said He was and that HE COULD NOT DO WHAT HE SAID HE WOULD DO AND DID! All of this as animals SLOWLY, but SURELY died (Matt. 23;
Matt. 8:22 ; Luke 9:57 -62) because GOD CANNOT LIE! (1 Samuel 15:26-29) When God SETS His heart to DESTROY ANY THING…NOTHING LIVES! (Is. 1; 2 Pet. 2) In our HIGHLY CIVILIZED, SUPER INTELLECTUAL SOCIETY exhaustive research goes into the STUDY OF INFECTIOUS DISEASES as MAN TRIES to UNDERSTAND THEIR ORIGINS and FIGURE OUT HOW HE in his own strength Continued From Page 14 HOW DARE YOU ...

CAN STOP THEM. In this case, the ORIGIN WAS CLEAR and stopping it was an improbability because it was sent DIRECTLY FROM GOD! WHEN GOD SAYS STOP IT, HE MEANS EXACTLY WHAT HE SAYS… STOP IT! (Ps. 105:13-16) Swarms of flies are a nuisance, but when HE STOPS YOUR ABILITY to BUY, SELL or TRADE that is DEVASTATING. You can’t even COPY and PASTE AN ANOINTING if you don’t have the RESOURCES TO PULL IT OFF! (James 5:10-17; Rev. 13:10-18) IT IS GOD’S WAY or NO WAY! Pharaoh possibly consulted with his MAGICIANS, SORCERORS and WISE MEN to see if they could hook up some NOTION of a POTION to FIX THE UNFIXABLE. But WHEN GOD DISPLAYS even the smallest portion of HIS IMMOBILIZING POWER THERE IS NOTHING, ANYBODY, ANYWHERE CAN DO. Interestingly, GOD’S PEOPLE had been used by Pharaoh JUST LIKE his PRECIOUS ANIMALS, but these were GOD’S CHOSEN and not his animals. He had SELFISHLY MERCHANDISED them for benefit and financial gain LONG ENOUGH! As God’s PLAN to DESTROY was being set into motion, He still extended His grace and mercy the span of ONE DAY to CHANGE HIS MIND and DECIDE TO OBEY. (Ex. 9:5) As God gave Pharaoh the SPACE TO REPENT (Rev. 2:18-29) HE STILL WOULD NOT! Hadn’t Pharaoh already seen enough to STOP HIS LOSSES AND FOOLISHNESS? NO, NOT YET! Many Christian’s haven’t either! (James 1:20-27; 2 Tim. 3:1-7) Perhaps, he got so COMFORTABLE with being UNCOMFORTABLE while having his EGO STROKED by UNWISE COUNSELORS and FOOLISH WORDS that he THOUGHT HE COULD EVENTUALLY BEAT UP GOD! (Is. 19) The Israelites must have been PRETTY QUIET in their PEACEFUL DOMAIN (Phil 4:4-9) for PHARAOH had to SEND SOMEBODY over to SEE if they had lost anything as he had? Misery LOVES Company! EVERYTHING BLESSED BY GOD while OUT OF HIS EYESIGHT was DOING JUST FINE… LIKE GOD SAID IT WOULD! (1 Cor. 15:57-58) …Until Next Week – Part VII …Stay Connected! Stay Blessed! Lady Dr. Phelencia A.
