Baptist Church of Los Angeles, during the morning worship; and Pastor Ivan S. Pitts, Second Baptist Church of Santa Ana, dur-
ing the afternoon service. Dr. Ross’ clear, anointed, powerful ministry of the Word of God has been a great blessing to the GNL church family. Under his leadership, the church family is growing both spiritually and numerically. Dr. Ross’ training, integrity, and well-developed managerial skills have also been recognized by the church community at large, as he serves as a Vice-Moderator in the Los Angeles District Association, as well as an Area Vice-President and Treasurer for the Western Baptist State Convention of California. The women of GNL have embraced, with great enthusiasm, a monthly “Women’s Fellowship”, during which they are taught by First Lady, Earleen D. Ross, regarding issues that are especially important to women. Sister Ross has also established “Distinguished D.I.V.A.s” (Daughters of Integrity, Virtue and Authority), an adolescent mentorship ministry for young ladies between the ages of 11-18. This continuous course not only focuses on the physical aspect of maturity and womanhood, but also covers etiquette, charm, healthy self-esteem, character building, discovering gifts and talents, and numerous other topics. Once again, YOU are invited to join us in this ‘day of love and honor’ for this wonderful man and woman of God. The Leadership Team of GNL serves as the Coordinators for this celebration.

Church, Pastor William Turner; and Union Baptist Church, Pastor Milton Marshall. Well now, whom do you suppose chose Dr. Hardwick for his vocation as a leader/pastor? Glad you asked. He was chosen by God to become the under shepherd to lead God’s people, which is us, who make up the church, Praises of Zion. He over-sees, leads, guides, protects, and teaches, trains, counsels, he prays with and for us, and most importantly of all, he “compassionately” feeds God’s flock with spiritual nourishment, which is the Word of God. Pastor Hardwick is a man who loves God, and who loves God’s people. He is a husband to one wife…Mrs. Thelma Hardwick, our beautiful and charming First Lady, who can be seen by his side, praying, and encouraging him every step of the way. Following carefully in the steps of Jesus, Pastor Hardwick has faithfully gone through the city and by-ways, teaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom to sinners, and
laying hands on those who are wrapped in disease and sickness. He is able through the Holy Spirit to meet challenges of this age head on. When he looks into crowds, and congregations he has compassion on them, because he knows they are bound, harassed, and helpless by the enemy. He sees them to be exactly what they are: sheep without a shepherd. With no hesitation, he realizes “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, his prayer request is always the same: “Lord of the harvest, helps me connect and save some lost souls, and send out more willing and committed workers into your harvest field.” Therefore, we the members of Praises of Zion bow our heads humbly and thank God for our Pastor and wife. In Ephesians 4:11-13 it is written: “And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists, and some pastors…”, and we know without any doubt that He gave Pastor Hardwick and Mrs. Hardwick to Praises of Zion. To God

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL WE BETTER RECOGNIZE!! Recognize that we are beyond blessed! Recognize that there are so many people who would love to experience the wonderful benefits we often overlook. Everything that we have, every good and perfect gift that we experience, the pleasant activities of our lives, are all blessings that many others are not experiencing. The circle of family even with their times of drama and friends who are sometimes bothersome, are all blessings which others would love to experience. The times when we are surrounded by so many people that we can’t easily find a
private place or moment for ourselves; others would love to have those challenges. We complain about having to get up and having to go to the store, shop and then having to cook the food. We don’t realize the many blessings we have just in that experience such as: 1) Having the capability to get up and not being bed bound and unable to move. 2) Being able to “go and get” because we have the means of energy, transportation and finances to do so. 3) Being in our right minds and not mistakenly going to the library or the zoo thinking we are the grocery

Having something to cook, a place to cook it and definitely having the ability to be able to cook, are all blessings many others would love to experience. The abundance of grace and mercy in every dimension of our lives really are not experienced by so many others. We take so many benefits for granted and are quick to focus and complain about the inconveniences associated with such privileges. This however blinds us from recognizing just how much God has manifested His love to us. We spend unfruitful time and opportunities whining and complaining which could be used praising and
thanking God for such bountiful blessings. Furthermore, we must appreciate our dwelling places which provide a covering, safe, warm and dry experience even if it is not decorated, located or as large as we would “prefer”. Let’s recognize that although we may have to alter our schedules and juggle them to accommodate responsibilities of several other persons’ lives, we are blessed. You may have to now care for parents which nurtured and cared for you; but recognize the blessing of having parents as long Continued On Page 14 WE BETTER ........

Genesis 3:8b And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked?
Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. 17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.
IN FOCUS Teenagers often say “My parents don’t understand me.” So they try to work everything out on their own. When they do things this way, they generally run into problems that could have been avoided if they had only talked to someone about what they were thinking. Kizzy was struggling with her grades. Her parents were in a bitter divorce and didn’t seem to have much time for her. She felt she couldn’t talk to her parents about the situation because they were having their own problems. So she started missing school altogether. It was getting close to the end of the semester when grades would be sent home to her parents. Somehow she had to get her grades before her parents did. There was no other way to fix this problem but to continue to hide the evidence of the problem. Or so she thought. She had become withdrawn and introverted. Eventually her parents found out, and she was in a lot of trouble. After talking to her parents, she regretted not talking to them in the beginning. Sin destroys and leads to broken relationships. In today’s lesson, we see the consequences of sin and the provisions God makes for His creation. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Garden. The beautiful garden made by God for Adam and Eve. The word “Eden” refers to a well-watered place, suggesting a luxuriant park. The word translated “garden” does not typically refer to vegetable plots but to orchards or parks containing trees. Cool of the day. Akkadian terminology has demonstrated that the word translated “day” also has the meaning “storm.” This meaning can also be seen for the same Hebrew word for “day” in Zephaniah 2:2. It is at times connected to the deity coming in a storm of judgment. If this is the correct rendering of the word in this passage, Adam and Eve heard the thunder of the Lord moving about in the garden in the wind of the storm. BACKGROUND God created the heaven and the earth and the Holy Spirit moved on the waters (Genesis 1:1-2). He created the light and the firmament (vv. 3-8), separated the waters (vv. 9-13), made the sun, moon, and stars (vv. 14-19), and created man in His image (vv. 26-28). God then planted a garden in Eden, where He placed the man and took care of him (vv. 29-31). God made the trees to grow, including the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil (2:8-9). God told the man he may eat freely of every tree in the garden except the tree of knowledge of good and evil (vv. 16-17). Then, God made a help meet for the man because it was not good for man to be alone. The Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam. Performing
the first surgery, God took one of Adam’s ribs and made a woman (vv. 18-25). They were given only one prohibition, but we see in today’s lesson that they failed to obey God and began to experience life under the curse. IN DEPTH 1. Hiding from and Breaking God’s Heart (Genesis 3:8-9) God came walking into the garden, a word that reveals His calmness and slowness to anger. He came in the cool of the day as opposed to the night, when it is natural to be more fearful. He came looking for man, taking the first steps toward a journey of redemption for His people. Man did what sin makes people do—he hid. Sin causes us to be ashamed, guilty, and fearful. Fear immediately attacked Adam and Eve after eating the forbidden fruit. The security of having fellowship with the almighty Lord God was gone. They felt they had to hide and could no longer trust the security they once had with their Creator. God asked the question not because He didn’t know where Adam was; He asked the question as if to ask, “What condition are you in? Adam, have you done what I told you not to do? Adam, where are you?” 2. Broken Fellowship Caused by Sin (vv. 10-13) Adam answered the Lord God with a confession of guilt. “I was afraid, because I was naked.” God asked the question to which He already knew the answer: “Who told you you were naked? I didn’t tell you.” God knew what had happened but was gently reminding man of his disobedience. Adam tried to place blame on his wife. He allowed her to take the lead and persuade him to do what God told him not to do. As if God was partly to blame, he reminded God where he got the woman. The woman blamed the serpent, but she was the one who sinned. Now she stood alone. Though Satan’s subtlety may draw us into sin, that does not justify us in sin. Though he is the tempter, we are the sinners; indeed, it is our own lust that draws us aside and entices us. Finally, after pointing the finger and blaming someone else, she confessed, “I did eat.” 3. The First Judgment upon Sin (vv. 14-17) God began to reveal the consequences of sin to the serpent. He is to be forever looked upon as a vile and despicable creature: “Upon thy belly thou shalt go, no longer upon feet, or half erect, but thou shalt crawl along, thy belly cleaving to the
By the end of the lesson, we will: IDENTIFY ways in which sin creates barriers to healthy relationships with God and others; EXPRESS sorrow and repentance for wrongdoing; and SEEK God’s help in discerning right from wrong.
Keep In Mind:
“And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken” (Genesis 3:22-23).
Focal verses:

earth,” an expression of a very abject miserable condition (Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, Psalm 44:25). God assumed all responsibility for the sorrow the woman would endure because of her disobedience. God mercifully allows her to bring forth children—which will give her great joy—although she will do so in great pain. The usage of the word “desire” was for the woman to rule over her husband or demand of her husband, but because of her disobedience, he shall rule over her. Adam’s sin changed everything for him and mankind. Adam himself was not cursed as the serpent was (v. 14), but God cursed the ground that Adam would have to till in order to eat and live. Adam was still above the ground, but now he would have to toil and sweat just to survive. If only he had been obedient to God and not yielded to temptation! SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. Why did God call out to Adam and ask, “Where art thou?” Did He not know where Adam was (Genesis 3:9)? 2. Why was Adam punished (v. 17)? DISCUSS THE MEANING God placed His children in a perfect environment accompanied by His holy presence. In a perfect place, sin was still an option. Adam and the woman committed their own sin. They suffered their own consequences, which affected all of mankind. What causes you to hide from God? LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY Sin affects everyone. When we sin, we sin against God. That sin is passed down from generation to generation and destroys people, families, and communities. God sent His Son to save us from our sin. However, we have a part to play—we must accept Him as Lord and Savior. Just as God provided for His children in the Garden of Eden, He has also made provisions for us. The first provision is Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son. MAKE IT HAPPEN The growing trend in technology offers us many good things but carries with it the potential for distracted lives that wind up neglecting God and giving more attention to the things of the world. As Christians, we must pursue a deeper relationship with God our Father so we may bring glory to Him. Let’s ask God to give us discernment so we will do right instead of wrong. FOLLOW THE SPIRIT What God wants me to do: REMEMBER YOUR THOUGHTS Special insights I have learned: MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Genesis 3:8b-17 8b: And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. God came down to Adam and Eve in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8), literally at “the wind of the day” (Heb. leruach haiyom, le-roo-akh ha-i-yowm) or in the evening breeze. This probably
was the time that Adam and Eve engaged in the acts of their religious worship, at which God was always present. At the usual time for worship, God came again to fellowship with Adam and Eve, but instead of being in the place of worship, they were hidden among the trees! They knew that when they heard the Lord coming, He would want to be with them. What a tragic consequence sin brings. The author’s attention to the hiding place of Adam and Eve is significant—they hid among the trees. In Genesis 1 and 2, trees play a central role in portraying Adam and Eve’s changing relationship with God. God’s bountiful provision is manifested in the fruit trees. However, in chapter 3, a tree was the instrument of temptation that lured Adam and Eve into sin and then became the place where the rebellious man and woman sought to hide from God. Cast out of the garden, Adam and Eve were barred from making their way back to the tree of life (v. 24). Later in Deuteronomy, a tree is described as the place of the punishment of death (Deuteronomy 21:22-23), but that is not the end of the story! The tree is also the place of the gift of life (Galatians 3:13), and as John shows in the book of Revelation, the leaves of the “tree of life” in the new heaven will be for the healing of the nations (Revelation 22:2). 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

God made his first move to counter sin: He confronted the participants and demanded an explanation. God is like a gentle and loving Father seeking out His own. We hear the heartfelt cry of an anguished Creator who did not come with denunciation but with disappointment. God knew where they were, but He also knew a gulf had been made between Himself and humankind, a gulf that He Himself would have to bridge. God’s question was intended to prompt Adam to consider his wrongdoing. It is interesting to note that the order of trial is the opposite of the order of temptation: Adam, having been giving the responsibility of watching over the garden, was first to be confronted. 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Adam was evasive. Instead of saying where he was, he gave the excuse that God’s voice made him afraid. The immediate consequences of sin are evident. First, sin brings alienation. God’s peaceful voice and presence suddenly instilled fear in Adam. Second, sin brings shame. In aiming to be like God, Adam and Eve were now in a state of the greatest wretchedness and nakedness. They knew their own covering was completely inadequate, and they were embarrassed before God. Adam and Eve knew that their attempt to cover themselves failed. Third, sin brings fear and judgment. Having been deceived by Satan, Adam and Eve were now exposed to that death and punishment from which God had promised them an exemption. The effects of sin remain the same even today. Alienation from God, shame, fear, and judgment were the first consequences of that first sin and remain so to the present time. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? God confronted Adam’s problem squarely. God sharpened the fact of the crime by following up with two rhetorical questions. The first question showed that Adam didn’t need to be told of his shame because he was already experiencing guilt for his crime—a true guilt that came from a violated conscience. With the second question, Adam’s nakedness was linked to his transgression concerning the tree. The “tree” is no longer identified as the tree of knowledge but the tree that God
S

had commanded them not to eat from (2:16-17). God knew the answers to these questions. Together these questions explained to Adam that his sense of shame arose from his defiance of God’s command. This was a sin problem and Adam’s shame, fear, or self-understanding could not be addressed until the sin problem was addressed. God asked those questions and, in doing so, allowed Adam to make the best of a bad situation by repenting right then and there. Adam, however, did not own up to his sin and repent before God. 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. Adam was obliged to acknowledge his transgression, but he did so in such a way as to shift the blame from himself to God and the woman—“the woman whom THOU gavest to be with me” (emphasis added, Heb. immadi, i-MA-di, literally, “to be my companion”). Despite his culpability, the man pointed to the woman as the real offender. Adam probably thought that since he did not pluck the fruit, he was guiltless; hence he said, “She gave me of the tree.” How few genuinely confess their sin or acknowledge their guilt! In the same manner as Adam, people continue to make excuses for their crimes by blaming the strength and subtlety of the tempter, the natural weakness of their own minds, society, or the unfavorable circumstances and environment in which they are placed. People plead these things as excuses for their sins and, in doing so, they preclude the possibility of repentance. Until a person takes responsibility for his or her sins and acknowledges that he or she alone is guilty, the person remains unhumbled and, consequently, cannot be saved. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. When God questioned the woman, she blamed the serpent. Although she admitted that she was deceived (and, unlike Adam, she could rightly claim to be the victim of deception), she still passed the blame as though she had done nothing wrong. 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: 15 And I will put enmity between thee and
1-888-290-7277 the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. The tempter was not asked why he deceived the woman. God only had words of condemnation for the serpent, whereas the man and woman received God’s continued concern and provision in the midst of their punishment. The serpent had no excuse; therefore, God pronounced sentence on him first. There is a clear tie between the serpent’s actions and the punishment that follows. It is important to know that God does not render judgment arbitrarily or capriciously; there is always a correspondence between the crime committed and the nature of the judgment. The curse upon the serpent did not necessarily suggest that the snake had previously walked with feet and legs as the other land animals. The emphasis lies in the snake’s “eating dust,” an expression that elsewhere carries the meaning of total defeat (cf. Isaiah 65:25; Micah 7:17). There will not only be a perpetual enmity between the woman and the serpent but also between their “seeds.” The word “enmity” (Heb. eybah, ay-BAW) in this context and other passages suggests a long-lasting, intense hostility, such as is experienced among nations and which results in warfare (cf. Numbers 35:2122; Ezekiel 25:15, 35:5). The human race and the offspring of the serpent will be forever at loggerheads. Although the same verb “bruise” is used to describe the actions of both progenitors, the location of the blow distinguishes the severity and success of the attack. The impact delivered by the offspring of the woman at the “head” of the serpent is mortal, while the serpent will only deliver a non-mortal blow to the “heel.” The Hebrew word for “seed” (Heb. zera, zeh-RAH), better translated as “offspring,” is a messianic reference to Jesus (Galatians 3:16). The curse upon the serpent includes its final destruction by a descendant of the woman. The serpent was instrumental in the undoing of the woman; in turn, the woman will ultimately bring down the serpent through her offspring (the Messiah who would conquer sin and death). The relationship between the promise in verse 15 and the judgment pronounced on the woman in verse 16 is striking. Childbirth is again to be the means through which the serpent would be defeated and by which Adam and Eve’s forfeited blessing would be restored. In the pain of childbirth is the reminder of the hope that lay in God’s promise.
NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET Birth pangs are not merely a reminder of the futility of the Fall; they are also a sign of an impending joy. Ultimately God will destroy “that old serpent” (Revelation 12:9) for his deception of the nations (Revelation 20:2, 7-10). 16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. As part of her judgment, the womanly and wifely sorrow of Eve was to be intensified, and in particular the pains of labor were to be multiplied (cf. Jeremiah 31:8). In Scripture, the pains of childbirth are symbolic of the severest anguish both of body and mind (cf. Psalm 48:6; Micah 4:9-10; John 16:21; 1 Thessalonians 5:3; Revelation 12:2). What the woman once was to do as a blessing in being a marriage partner and having children became tainted by the curse. It is in those moments of life’s greatest blessings of marriage and children that the woman would sense most clearly the painful consequences of her disobedience to God. As part of the judgment on the woman, her desire is to be with her husband. The word “desire” (Heb. teshuqath, tesHU-kat) can also mean “longing.” The woman was created and given to Adam as a help meet (2:18), and her relation to the man from the first was one of dependence. It was the reversal of these roles that led to the Fall (3:17). The husband was now to rule. As a result of the Fall, the marriage vow “to love and to care” becomes “to desire and to dominate.” As such, the “rule” here may refer to the harsh exploitative subjugation which, unfortunately, often characterizes the plight of women in many societies and associations. Although the New Testament recognizes the theological significance of the fallen relationship between men and women due to the Fall, Christians must strike a healthy balance between who we are in Christ (Galatians 3:28) and what we continue to be as a result of the Fall (Colossians 3:18; 1 Peter 3:1). Adam, being the last to transgress, was brought up last to receive his sentence: The “good land” provided by the Creator (chs. 1-2) was cursed. Adam should have
been following God’s word, but he followed his wife’s word and broke God’s specific command (2:15-17). As man’s judgment, Adam and future generations could no longer “freely eat” of the produce of the land. One must note throughout chapters 2 and 3 man’s ongoing relationship with his Creator by means of the theme of “eating.” At first, God’s blessing and provision for man are noted in the words, “Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat” (2:16). In chapter 3, it was specifically over the issue of “eating” that the tempter raised doubts about God’s goodness in His care for Adam and Eve (3:1-3). Finally, the act of disobedience in chapter 3 is simply described as she “did eat” and “he did eat” (v. 6). It is not surprising, then, to find that the description of the judgment on the man includes eating: He is to eat in sorrow all the days of his life. Henceforth the fertility of the ground shall be greatly impaired. All the fruits of man’s toll are often destroyed by landslides, erosion, insects, drought, land floods, etc. The current earth is not what God intended. Man’s sin changed everything. Anxiety and difficult toil are the laboring man’s portion. The earth was no longer completely good. Death had entered. Even the ground had changed. VALUE YOUR TIME #2

tine schedule, then you know you cannot meet with everyone for lunch, or hold an hour long conversation to deal with someone else’s problems. I’m not suggesting you be cynical towards others, rather deal out your time sparingly. Politely indicate to those who ask for your time that you will schedule them in when you’re available. Work in your areas of strength: You can easily be a “Jack of all trades, but a master of none,” should you so choose. But if you’re going to be successful and make an impact in the areas you’re called to, you need to know your strengths and weaknesses. Once that discovery has been made, drop the task that you’re weakest in, if possible. Delegate those areas to others and work in your strengths. If you focused on the task you’re weak at, you’ll spend all your time trying to do it and quite frankly, it’ll probably suck. But if the task is your strong suit, then you’ll naturally do a good job and with the proper amount of time you’ll do a superlative job. Wants to inform you that the Baptist Ministers’ Conference of Los Angeles Will NOT be in Session For the full month Of Sepetember. We will reconvene on OCTOBER 7, 2013 @ 11:00 am You are welcome to watch our Archived Services Streaming Live at www.BMCLive.com
THE ALPHA AND OMEGA Satan challenged Jesus to a fight Declared a public showdown Swore he would force the King of Kings To relinquish his Savior Crown Spectators covered the landscape There were many in the crowd That were pulling for the devil They wanted to see Jesus bow Satan was the first weighed in He weighed less than a baby wipe You wouldn’t have guessed it by the size of him Yet his mouth spewed tons of hype When Jesus stood on the scale The ground shook with a clasp of thunder Immediately Satan seemed to realize His mouth had made a major blunder
www.LAHelps.com TALENTED MUSICIANS AND SINGERS NEEDED A well-known, national gospel recording choir is holding auditions for talented lead singers, background vocalists and musicians who wish to use their gifts and talents to prepare for a “live recording session” celebrating the organization’s many years in the gospel music industry. We are seeking anointed singers and musicians to unite with the choir and share in being a part of the legacy of the late Rev. James Cleveland with a new generation of gospel music artists, performers and enthusiasts. The ability to minister in song by learning parts, blending harmoniously with your section, attending regular rehearsals and singing engagements along with maintaining a professional Christian attitude is required. To schedule an audition for Saturday, August 24th, 31st or September 7th and for more information, please contact us at: (877) 999-5246 ext. #3.
Suddenly his corner showed him the Bible They read Revelations 21:6 Jesus is the Beginning and the End The winner was already fixed Satan cried, “You are the Alpha and Omega! To no one but God will you bow It is Done! You already won! I’m gonna throw in the towel”

Time is a fixed commodity and must be treated with great consideration. It’s rather interesting how the most successful individuals can get so much accomplished in the same amount of time many of us waste so effortlessly. Last week I began to reintroduce us to ‘time management.’ This week I would like to conclude with a list I’ve compiled that I believe will benefit in getting the most out of our time. Compile a Not-to-do list: Clearly stating what you refuse to waste time doing is just as beneficial to time management as knowing what is worth your time. Without this understanding, the bulk of your time can easy venture into unknown directions. You plan your day with the intentions of finishing the project for work, completing the assignment for class, or organizing your closet which is in
dire need, but instead you ended up on FaceBook, Instagram, Twitter and searching Google for 3 hours because you didn’t prioritize the Not-to-do list. Create a routine schedule: For many of us, our schedules do not vary drastically. The children need to be dropped off at school by 7:30am. We have to be at work by 9:00am. The boss scheduled a meeting at 11:00am, etc... While our schedules are routine, we take it for granted that we’ll remember and execute them all in a timely manner. But then we forget that the kids had a minimum day or football practice. So purchase a planner, create a routine schedule, and fill it in appropriately. Be on time: Maybe you hit the snooze button a few too many times, or you swear you have a magical route to beat the traffic, or you just have to make a Starbucks run before you arrive. Whatever the case, figure out the root of the problem and nip it at the bud. Set the alarm a half-hour earlier, skip the late night television show, make coffee at home, and for heavens sake you have now secret short cut route to get around traffic. Be on time or early for that matter. Spend time with others wisely: Other people do not value your time as much as you do, so be wise in how you disperse it. If you keep a rou-

LAMENTABLE = DEPLORABLE = WOEFUL = DEATH
For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. – 2 Corinthians 7:10

as you have had them. You are blessed with grandchildren while others who don’t have grandchildren would love to have them and the aggravations which are associated with them. We must also be careful not to esteem ourselves better than others just because
derstands only a small portion of what God has called each of us to do as “new creatures” in Christ Jesus. When we refuse to forget any infraction against us, we recycle the hurt/pain/ disappointment of it in our minds causing us to lament (grieve/mourn). Lamenting is a form of depression in the Christian soul and quite often is used by the devourer to sew seeds of a deplorable nature; deplorable as in “condemning
bitterness”. Soon such anger shifts into a since of woefulness and self pity and if we remain in this state of mind long enough we run the risk of spiritual, psychological, emotional and even physical death. Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness—without it no one will see the Lord. Make sure that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springs up, causing trouble and by it, de-
filing many. And make sure that there isn’t any immoral or irreverent person like Esau, who sold his birthright in exchange for one meal. For you know that later, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected because he didn’t find any opportunity for repentance, though he sought it with tears. – Hebrews 12:1417. Entertaining a lamenting and/or condemning spirit is like turning every gas pilot
on in a home with the expectation that when you return from the grocery store after an hour and light a match that the entire house won’t blow up! Forgetting = Forgiving. They are direct companions of one another. God even confirms it in scripture when He explains that our sin is cast into a sea of “forgetfulness”. God has
we are CURRENTLY afforded blessings that others are not CURRENTLY!! While there are various reasons why others might not be experiencing the benefits which we are; we can’t neglect praying for them in their lack while we are enjoying our abundant blessings. We must also recognize that as we experience seasons of bless-
ings, eventually we will experience seasons of challenges and lack. Our lists of blessings are magnificent because they are afforded to us by our Magnificent Heavenly Father. So settle down, reflect and meditate on just how blessed you are and it will definitely increase your praise and thankfulness and eliminate the spirit of com-
plaining and ungratefulness. This is why it is important to recognize our blessings and how good Daddy-God has been to us; as this will serve as logs for the fire of our faith and will remind us that no matter what; we are blessed, blessed, blessed. KINGDOM CONCERNS
because we all experience problems in ministry, if you aren’t experiencing problems, maybe it’s because you are no longer a threat to Satan or his plans for tearing down the ministry. You do realize that Satan’s desire is to wreck havoc in the Body, right? Satan wants to bring about confusion so that the focus is no longer on God and His glory, but on personal concerns and agendas. If you are not experiencing problems, what happened? Why is it that now you are no longer a threat to Satan? Did your
prayer life change? Is there any intimate time with the Father? Sometimes we lose our focus and it’s no longer about the “Work of the Church,” but now it’s about Church work; maintaining the status quo; making sure others realize that you are the sustaining force in ministry. Are you working as a servant? Stop, pray and assess where you are, regroup, refocus and then return. We all blow it from time to time. It’s easy to get off track because of circumstances and errant influences. You must realize that
Satan is real and his desire is to get you off course. Satan has people in strategic positions to work against you. Everyone patting you on your back is not really a strong supporter. You must have a determined mindset that in everything that you do, God gets the glory. You must decide which is more important, the feelings of those in ministry, or how God feels about what is going on in the ministry that you lead. The purpose of ministry is to demonstrate the love of Christ, serve and fulfill God’s purpose
here on planet earth. In order for us to be effective in ministry our initial focus has to be on Kingdom concerns. Kingdom Concerns are winning lost souls to Christ, maintaining unity, demonstrating love and building up the Body. Dr. Joyce is a lay-person, under the leadership of Pastor Ticey Brown, at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, where she serves as the Strategic Leadership Director. Dr. Joyce’s contact info is, joyce-harrell@sbcglobal.net or (323) 753-3189

What had God’s people done However, God had not YET to Pharaoh? ABSOLUTELY put His hands upon Pharaoh NOTHING! There was just no physically. This time would
be ONLY the BEGINNING of a VERY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE for the Man of Men. God instructs Moses and Aaron to take handfuls of ashes (Is. 61:3) of the furnace, and then instructs MOSES to SPRINKLE IT TOWARD THE HEAVEN IN THE SIGHT OF PHARAOH. The ashes (“aphar” or “epher”) could be used to signify man’s origin as dust. (Gen. 18:27) Another word for ashes is “deshen” used for the remains of burnt offerings. (Lev. 6:10-11). The dust and ashes in the lowliness of its debased state when sprinkled toward heaven GAVE RESPECT to the deity of the ALMIGHTY GOD in the affairs of mankind. It also in the sight of Pharaoh demonstrated the INFERIORITY of this self-
made leader in the PRESENCE OF GOD. The Hebrew word for furnace, “kibshan” derived from the root word “kabash” was the place from which the ashes were taken. The word “kabash” means to conquer, bring into bondage, force, keep under, subdue or bring into subjection. Yes, God’s people had been subjected to bondage, fiery trials of adversity and oppression by the hand of Pharaoh. And now, God had EVERY INTENTION of DOING ALL OF THESE things to Pharaoh. As the dust settled, God declared that it would become a BOIL [inflamed, painful, pus-filled swelling on the skin with a hard center caused by infection] BREAKING FORTH with blains [increased in volume as from in-
ner pressure] upon man, and upon beast throughout ALL THE LAND OF EGYPT. As God had declared it to be…SO IT WAS. While all of Egypt, not God’s people, was physically impacted by this ACT OF GOD only one specific part of Pharaoh’s team was in the SPOTLIGHT for this plague as recorded in Scripture… THE MAGICIANS. These were those who REPEATEDLY loved to PERFORM and SHOW OFF with their FAKE PSEUDO-ANOINTING in Moses’ face as God gave witness to it. Serpent into Serpent. Water to Blood into Water to Blood.
