PRAISES OF ZION CELEBRATES 57TH APPRECIATION SERVICES FOR DR. & MRS. J.B. HARDWICK
DR. & MRS. J.B. HARDWICK
The members of Praises of Zion M.B.C. prayerfully announce the celebration services marking 57 years of service to the Master for their Pastor and wife, Dr. & Mrs. J. Benjamin Hardwick. Please set aside the following dates so that you may join this cloud of witnesses, and share in this joyous occasion with us. The festivities take place beginning Sunday, September 9th, 16th, and 23rd, 2012. All of the services will begin at 3:30 pm. We are located at 8222 So. San Pedro Street, in Los Angeles, Ca. You may reach us by telephone at (323) 750-1033. The theme chosen is:
“OUR PASTOR, STILL ALL ABOUT JESUS”. (Hebrews 12:1-2) Please acquaint yourselves with the following schedule, and govern yourselves accordingly. Our invited guests are as follows: Sept. 9, 2012 at 3:30 pm our guests will include Metropolitan M.B.C. of Pasadena , and Pastor Tyrone Skinner who will bring the message. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, our guests will include: Greater New Bethel Baptist Church, Rev. Earl Pleasant; New Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Rev. Melvin Hill.; and Southern Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Xavier Thompson. Sunday, September 23, 2012, Greater Zion Church Family, Rev. Michael Fisher; Jericho Baptist Assembly, Rev. William Turner; Union Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Milton Marshall; Greater New Unity, Rev. Randy Allison; and Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Virgil Jones will all help us close out this glorious celebration in a powerful way. Down through the years, his beautiful wife, Mrs. Hardwick has been at our Pastor’s side as God has blessed him to achieve many great things, while proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in more sermons than can be numbered, saving countless numbers of souls, traveling to distant places, conversing with dignitaries here and abroad, and has always done so with the humble-servant attitude of Christ. Dr. Hardwick reminds us: “If you never learn anything else about the life and ministry of Jesus, then you should know He was a humble servant willing to love and serve others, rather than being served himself. If this was the attitude of Jesus, then what should ours be? If we are humbled before Him as servants, we are imitators of Christ, and that is what our Christian walk should be about!” For those who may not know him let me tell you all about Him: “Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself... While still a young man, the tide of popular Continued On Page 14 opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them deHARDWICK ... nied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves.

Labor Day’s fun and frolic is a fast fading memory, but the shining legacies left by A. Philip Randolph and the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters speak faith, hope and inspiration to black Americans working to secure ever brighter tomorrows. At its height, the Brotherhood (BSCP), America’s largest black-led labor union, claimed a reported 7,000 members. Randolph, a son of African Methodism, initially rejected several appeals to organize the porters from 10 porters in Harlem. The men, hearing of Randolph’s principled life and uncompromising integrity, hoped that he, as an unwavering Moses once did, would lead two urgent missions at once--against the George Pullman Company, their ruthless employer-and the American Federation of Labor. In Randolph’s bruising struggle with both Goliaths, there are several clear, object lessons for black clergy and leaders of non-profits suffering from dwindling federal, state and municipal support. The major lesson Randolph’s life and mission teach is that, together, African American religious leaders and ministers can begin to solve our current economic, social and political challenges and many of the ones that lie ahead. Randolph did not wear rose-colored glasses. ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL “IN HIS PRESENCE” Through His blood-sacrifice on the cross of Calvary; Jesus has provided an awesome, indescribable, life-changing opportunity for persons who elect to enter into a personal relationship with Him and His Heavenly Father. Hebrews the 10th chapter reveals this awesome privilege. Hebrews 10:19—And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter Heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20- By His death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21- And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s
house, 22- Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting Him, for our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean and our bodies have been washed with pure water. 23- Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise. Because of the blood of Jesus Christ, we can boldly enter the presence of our Heavenly Father without fearing that we will be rejected or destroyed. We may now dare to step beyond His Holy Veil, into His Most Holy Dwelling to commune and fellowship

“The Bible is central to our faith,” said Pastor Kalvin E. Cressel, Sr. of Greater Mt. Sinai MBC No. 2, in the City of Compton,” but many people are intimidated by its scope and size. The Story gives us a way to journey from Genesis to Revelation together in 31 weeks so everyone understands God’s story and how their story intersects with it.” The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many people are actually reading it? A Gallup survey reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans read it everyday. Pastor KC of GMSMBC No. 2 is hoping to reverse this trend, starting with his own congregation; strongly believing that The Story, a Zondervan best-seller, is the right tool to increase Biblical literacy and help readers understand God’s story and how their own stories intersect with God’s. The Story Church Campaign is a unique program providing up to 31 weeks, studying 31 chapters of carefully-selected scrip-
tures sequenced in chronological order. The Story presents the Word of God in an engaging format, reading like a novel and consists of a curriculum for children, teens and adult Sunday school and up to 31 weeks of corresponding sermons. When accompanied by reading through the five agerelated books (The Story, The Story: Teen Edition, The Story for Kids, The Story for Children and The Story for Little Ones), the entire Church can be literally on the same page for 31 weeks. GMSMBC No. 2 plans to begin the experience on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 10:45 a.m. and invite the community-at-large to join us on this most amazing journey. Pastor KC has declared “I want my congregation, as well as
those in the Greater Los Angeles Area to realize the incredible love God has for them and how their story is found within His story.” With thousands of participating churches nationwide, The Story is becoming a movement that is bringing wide-ranging benefits to local churches. Many have reported increased community outreach, increased Biblical literacy, congregational growth and a greater understanding of how God’s story reveals the reasons for the things that happen in man’s story. We are located at 12317 S. Wilmington Avenue, Compton, CA 90222, phone (310) 631-0261 and visit www.go2sinai.org. Pastor Kalvin E. Cressel, Sr./Mother Sandra Taylor, Reporting

“I (WE) CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME (US).” (Philipians 4:13)
This is truly an exciting month for the Holy Rock Baptist Church Family. We invite the Los Angeles community to join with us as we celebrate our Forth-eighth Church Anniversary. The highlight of the month will be when we Burn the Mortgage on our Church. Under the guidance

Evening Star Family, what an impact was made on our church family and the community on our Pastor and Wife’s 1st anniversary service. We gathered to the capacity of our building and parking lot and you stayed for the duration of the celebration. We prayed, praised and shouted until the presence of the Lord flowed into the community. We know that you were touched, restored and revived...to do the work. Thank God for our new
birth and renewed vision. Now that the “party” is over, the floor is swept, the trash thrown away and the lights are turned out...what will you do with the new MERCY that you were given? Will you use it to advance your work in the Kingdom or will you put it under a bushel and wait for the next “wave” of Glory to sweep over you, so that you can just feel good about it? Not for those of us who have caught the vision that God has given. This
is not just enthusiasm; this is the genuine love of God that is being worked through our lives. A lot of emphasis is being placed on the vision God has given Pastor Williams for Evening Star. (“Where there is no vision, the people perish. Prov. 29:18”) His sermons and teachings have been and continues to paint a picture of what God’s people need to do to experience the manifestation of that vision each Sunday. The vision is being
manifested on Sundays as the Lord adds members to our church. Our pastor baptizes those new converts the following Sunday as the Lord blesses. What a blessing to be a part of leading God’s people to fulfill the “GREAT COMMISSION.” STAY TUNED FOR MORE OF OUR UPCOMING EVENTS: The weekend of September 29 & 30, 2012, will be the launch of our new Hispanic Ministry. We will start with a block party in the parking lot on Saturday
29th at 11am and the opening service on Sunday September 30th at 6:30pm. We will continue our BootCamp for the 21st Century Woman – “Letting Go Crazy For Good” on September 29, 2012 at 8:30am9:30am in the upper room. Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand
of the throne of God. 3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. 4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin. 5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
IN FOCUS Myra had worked for a Fortune 500 company for five years. She was well liked, hardworking, and a team player; yet, she had been laid off. So many questions ran through her mind as she struggled to understand why the Lord had allowed her to lose her job. After all, she had a young child to support and bills to pay. She was distressed and disappointed and couldn’t understand why she was undergoing this fiery trial. After lamenting for a while, she remembered God’s promise: “All things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). She began to trust God for what direction she should take, and her faith began to increase. She decided to go back to school and get her MBA. Times were tough for her and her daughter, but they survived. She finally earned her MBA and soon found a better paying job that had more prestige and responsibility. What do you think of when you think of leadership? In today’s lesson, we see that Jesus set the perfect example as the leader who was tempted but did not give in. He endured the pain and shame of the Cross to achieve the joy and victory of eternal life with God. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Rome. As the capital city of Italy, it was the center of commerce, culture, and religion. A myriad of religions dotted the social landscape at the time this letter to the Hebrews was circulated. Although there were times when Jews and Christians were expelled from Rome, there were other times when they could worship freely. Believers in Rome. Scholars are very unsure of the intended audience, but in Hebrews 13:24, the writer sends greetings from those of Italy. The NIV Study Bible notes that the writer is passing on greetings from some Italian believers. William Barclay in his Daily Study Bible on Hebrews suggests that it was written to a group of Jewish Christians who met in a “house–church” in Rome (Barclay, 6-7). They were a subgroup of the main Christian congregation that had been formed there years earlier. Living in a climate of other religions and cults, their faith was tested constantly. When times were hard—politically, culturally, socially, and economically—the chance was greater that they would be tempted to return to Judaism. It was not easy nor politically correct to be a Christian at this time. Christians in Rome had to deal with the threat of persecution by the Roman authorities; although, none of them had become martyrs like Stephen and others. (This happened later under Nero, the emperor.) Because they were still alive, the writer encouraged them to continue to run their race and not give up.
He reminded them that Jesus never gave up and that they shouldn’t either. BACKGROUND Some Bible commentators believe Hebrews was written to a Jewish-Christian congregation in Rome around A.D. 67-70. Others believe it was written to Jews living in Egypt or Palestine. Traditionally, authorship was attributed to the apostle Paul, but modern scholars are unsure of the true identity of the author of this epistle. Some believe Barnabas wrote it, and still others suggest Apollos, the Jew born in Alexandria, which is located in northern Africa. The author wrote the letter in response to the threat that believers might renounce Christianity and revert to Judaism. The writer wanted to inform his vacillating readers that Jesus Christ, the object of God’s final revelation, is superior to the greatest of Judaism’s heroes. The writer also wanted to highlight, while reminding his audience of, the efficacy of Jesus’ power of salvation. He emphasizes that whereas the Jewish legal sacrificial system was powerless to remit sins, Jesus, the eternal High Priest, “is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:25). Furthermore, the writer explained the need for patient endurance amid the persecution and sufferings to which the heirs of eternal salvation are inevitably exposed. The writer suggests that all Christians emulate Jesus’ suffering and patience in anticipation of an eternal reward. One cannot help but notice the metaphors of Greek athletic terms such as “run with perseverance the race” and “a great cloud of witnesses [spectators]” (Hebrews 12:1, NIV). These Christians were to think of themselves as athletes who possessed endurance in order to ensure victory over the forces of evil. The writer also made it clear that the Christians’ secret weapon, needed for victory in spite of trials and tribulations, was unwavering faith. IN DEPTH 1. Believers Must Run the Race (Hebrews 12:1-2) The writer encourages the Christian readers to continue to “run their race” of discipleship no matter what tries to hinder them. He tells them not to get distracted by burdens or sins that are present in their lives. Being a Christian was not an easy thing back then, and it still isn’t today. It is a life-

long commitment that involves peaks and valleys, good times and bad times, and sun-shine and rain. Christian discipleship is not akin to a sprint; it is a marathon. That is why the author tells his audience to use “perseverance” (v. 1, NIV). Perseverance is an inner quality that allows one to continue in some course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. To persevere is to be steadfast in a particular purpose. Disciples of Jesus Christ must always look to Jesus as the ultimate model of perseverance. In His ministry, He suffered insults and attempts on His life. He persisted even though His hometown and relatives rejected Him. He overcame the obstinacy of His followers and betrayal by one of His own. He never faltered during the unjust criminal trial that accused Him of sedition and heresy or the beating by the Roman police force. Finally, He did not waver on the Cross at Calvary. He did all of that not only so future generations of believers would have access to a spiritual power potent enough to change the world but also to set an example of the perfect leader who was tempted but did not give in. And most importantly, He endured the Cross to carry our sins and provide the way of salvation for us. We must also remember that we have an inspiration. We are surrounded by a “great . . . cloud of witnesses,” credible leaders who have fought a good fight, finished their course, kept the faith, and earned their crowns of righteousness. They are our inspiration. Our heroes of faith should inspire us to keep our faith so we can pursue a life of complete holiness and participate in kingdom work that can change our world and be a witness of the world to come. Today, we look at heroes of faith such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Mary McLeod Bethune, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Rosa Parks. Therefore, as we continue to live as ambassadors of Christ, let us persevere on our jobs, in our homes, and in our communities. God demands our best in this life. No matter what hardships we go through, our history is peppered with credible leaders who have overcome greater hardships than we have ever had to imagine. We can learn from them. If they made it, surely we can make it. With God on our side and a “great . . . cloud of witnesses” cheering us on, we can get through any adverse situation we face. 2. Believers Must Develop Endurance (vv. 3-6) When life becomes unbearable and we get discouraged by some temporal circumstances, we ought to have enough of a spiritual sense to look to Jesus as our source of strength. If we think of all that Jesus endured, giving His life so we might have life, we have to thank God for the character and integrity of His Son Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews encouraged the vacillating Jewish Christians, when they began to complain about the adversity they had to face, to consider Jesus’ suffering. He supported his argument by testifying that they had not faced persecution to the degree that they had shed
their own blood. He also let them know that trials suffered for righteousness’ sake could be theologically viewed as the “chastening of the Lord,” God’s “disciplinary correction, instruction, and nurture.” The Lord’s chastening is not arbitrary or without direction—it always has a purpose. The writer suggests that trials could be disciplinary correction and a part of God’s overall plan to edify His children. Corrective discipline is always a good thing that symbolizes love. When an earthly father exercises discipline on his child, in most cases it’s meant to be is beneficial to the child so that the same wrong actions will not be repeated. Our Heavenly Father operates in the same way. Because God loves us, He disciplines us so we will not commit the same sins or something worse. Even when seemingly unprovoked trials and tribulations come into our lives, we can benefit from them. Romans 8:28 reads, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Truly, when we try to compare what we have to go through to what Jesus endured, we see there is no comparison. He suffered much for us. The question is: What will we suffer through for Him? It is hard for us to lose, to mourn the death of a loved one, to feel the pain of a broken relationship or the discomfort of owing insurmountable debt. Trials will come in this life. Pain will be a part of our pilgrimage. But the good news is that enduring the suffering brings us into new levels of God’s consciousness. 3. Believers Must Learn to

Accept the Discipline of the Lord (vv. 7-11) The writer of Hebrews presents yet another reason that believers should cheerfully bear affliction when it comes. Christians are encouraged to endure the discipline of the Lord because it is the mark of the sonship of Christ as well as the way to become more holy and righteous. The Bible is clear that those who suffer for righteousness’ sake glorify God: “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12-13, KJV). Second Timothy 2:12 says, “If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us.” The writers insist that we must look on all the hardships of life as the discipline of God sent to work, not for our harm, but for our ultimate and highest good. It is never pleasant to be corrected and disciplined by God, but His discipline is a sign of His deep love for us. When God corrects you, see it as proof of His love and His ability to lead you in the right direction. Then pray and ask Him what He is working to teach you. We may respond to the Lord’s discipline in several ways. First, we can accept it with resignation. Second, we can accept it with selfpity, thinking we really don’t

deserve it. Third, we can be angry and resentful toward God. Or, fourth, we can accept it gratefully, which is the appropriate response we owe a loving Father who cares enough about us to point us in the right direction. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT 1. FOOD FOR THOUGHT FELLOWSHIP AMONG BELIEVERS
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
How important is fellowship among believers in the Body of Christ? I’m so glad you asked? Coming together to worship and praise our God is very important, but during worship the agenda is God and not one another. Worship is not the time to get to know one another and fellowship. Fellowship among believers creates a strong bond and pro-
vides a strong foundation for peace and unity in the Body of Christ. Peace and unity ought to be important to every leader, and with that said, what will you do to accomplish it? Time out for coming to church and putting up with one another, going home angry, frustrated or hurt and returning the next week starting the same fake fellowship all over again. Strained relationships don’t make you happy and guess what it doesn’t make God happy either. When it comes to pleasing God, it doesn’t matter what they did, it doesn’t matter what they said, and it doesn’t matter who else they persuaded to be on their side and against you. Is there anything to hard for God? When it comes down to it, all that matters is that we seek the bond of peace, and strive for God to get
the glory in all things. Romans 12:1 call for us to become living sacrifices, holy and acceptable to God, which is our reasonable service. That means because of what Christ has done for us it’s just right that we become a living sacrifice. A living sacrifice dies to self, and does what it takes for cohesiveness in the body. Take time out to fellowship with each other, get to know one another do lunch, have a get together and more than anything else forgive one another, for God’s benefit and yours. When that is done then you can experience true joy and spirit filled fellowship. Dr. Joyce is a layperson at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, and is available for workshops and one on one consultations, she can be reached at joyce-harrell@sbcglobal.net or (714) 878-4854.

be glad also with exceeding joy” (1 Peter 4:12-13, KJV). Second, we can accept it with self-pity, thinking we really don’t deserve it. Third, we can be angry and resentful toward God. Or, fourth, we can accept it gratefully, which is the appropriate response we owe a loving Father who cares enough about us to point us in the right direction.

Brotherhood of Dining Car Cooks and Waiters. Previous black-led efforts to gain seats at the AF of L’s power table, where wages and pensions were hashed out, had historically fared no better. Blacks were thus locked out of the decisions that determined their employment status and ultimate welfare. Into this gap in August, 1925 stepped Randolph, with no organiza-
tion, funds, staff, transportation, salary or secretary. Black In many cities, hamlets and in rural America, were routinely lynched, terrorized and abused. Randolph, although he had to impress the men he was sent to organize, owned just one black suit, a pair of shoes, two white shirts and two pair of black socks. In this era, Booker T. Washington, Tuskegee Institute’s founder, W.E. B. DuBois, the NAACP’s noted leader and Marcus Garvey, creator of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, all aimed to relieve the misery that defined life for most black Americans. Washington, at the 1895 Atlanta Exposition, had essentially promised that blacks would be contented in menial labor and no longer fight for constitutional rights won in the nation’s bloody Civil War. In exchange for this pledge, the un-elected Wash-

We are praying for you, Sis. Linda and Latrell Dove, in a special way; earth has no sorrows, that Heaven cannot heal. Serving in a more excellent way is our Pastor, Rev. Randy Allison Jr. Reporting has been yours truly, Sis. Arlene Andrews, and until next week, don’t forget to keep RAISING THE PRAISE!!! ington received large donations from corporate titans. Pleased with his passivity, Andrew Carnegie, the steel magnate and John D. Rockefeller, Sr., the world’s first billionaire, regularly made large contributions to Tuskegee. Among these leaders, only Randolph captured the vision, strategy and resourcefulness to and organize a successful campaign to win decent wages, pensions and working conditions for black Americans living in wretched conditions. In the black church, flocks were tended and schools and colleges serving the elite and largely more prosperous classes were established and maintained. But no clergy, even the most progressive among them, were able to lead, much less organize, a war against the serflike working conditions that bound the bulk of black workers. Randolph, armed mostly with the zeal of Ashley Totten, fiery resistance of Milton Webster and stoic calm of C.L. Dellums, stood up to the Pullman Company for 12 bitter years. Dependent on his wife, a hair stylist in New York City, to support their home, he traveled to across the country to organize the bands of men awaiting his eloquent encouragement and steely determination to win their war, adversity notwithstanding. When Randolph had no funds for fares, which was often, the porters quietly led him aboard the trains to empty berths where drained and exhausted, he could sleep, undisturbed and unnoticed. On August 25, 1935, the AF of L became the first of the two foes to surrender to Randolph and his men. Two years later, the George Pullman Company capitulated, making the Brotherhood the first back-led union Continued On Page 14 to win A. PHILLIP RANDOLPH ... a col-

Living our lives by the title of “Christian” is essential, but also comes with a great deal of scrutiny and criticism. Perhaps this is why many keep their belief in Christ secret. For they know that the moment they profess the Lord openly, they will be required to lead a life illustrating how the Bible says Christians must live. They also recognize that when they make a mistake, those around them will ponder and often express judgment with a label of “hypocrite” attached. It is challenging to lead a Christian life. There is so much to know about to consider one’s self a disciple. In order to become familiar with the Christian life, one must commit to Continued From Page 13

lective bargaining agreement from a major American corporation. But Randolph and his men did not rest on their laurels, less than four years after their stunning victory over the Pullman Company, Randolph and the brotherhood threatened President Franklin Delano Roosevelt with a massive march on Washington, D.C., if he refused to sign a Executive Order forcing firms with federal contracts to hire blacks for war work. Roosevelt gave in and signed Executive Order 8802, which freed millions of blacks from prisons of poverty and opened doors to dignified labor. Randolph hadn’t finished negotiating with presidents, however. In 1948, When Continued From Front Page HARDWICK ...
While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress. I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.” (Dr. Allen Francis) A word of caution from Dr. Hardwick “Keep your mind focused on Jesus. Think about the way He lived. His kindness, gentleness, mercy and joy, and the sacrifice He
studying daily – a statement which appears to be rhetorical, but it’s remarkable to look at the overwhelming number of Christians who only know and can quote two scriptures (John 3:16/Psalm 23) considering there are 66 books with more than 1500 pages of information God expects us to familiarize ourselves with. Can one memorize all that is in biblical text from Genesis to Revelation? Perhaps. But, God never asked us to memorize His Word. In fact, He promises that the Holy Spirit will bring the Word back to our remembrance: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, Harry Truman vacillated in integrating the Armed Services, which Randolph knew were a key to black advancement, he again threatened to send 125,000 marching blacks to the Nation’s Capital. Truman, like Roosevelt before him, relented and signed Executive Order 9981. Finally, in a session leading up to his finest hour, the mind-boggling 1963 “March on Washington for Jobs, Justice and Freedom,” Randolph convened a meeting in New York City with all the other “Big Six” black leaders. He announced that he secured had a commitment from the young Martin Luther King, Jr., to address the march and needed only their assent as a signal of unity among black Americas major leaders. Almade for you and for me.” Dr. Hardwick also states, “Don’t worry about what other people think of you. Run the race that the Lord has laid out for your life.” Dr. Hardwick knows this very same Jesus who was with him when he began his ministry some 57 years ago, is still with him, and He has never forsaken him. Guess what? This is the good news: He is available to you and to me, and He has a plan for our lives. Each one of us must seek Him while He can still be found and live out our own salvation. It is a personal matter, and no one else can do it for you. So join us as we thank God for the love He pours out on us, as we honor this servant of Gospel. Remember, it is truly “STILL ALL ABOUT JESUS”. To God be the glory! Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Senior Pastor, Sister Faye Williams, Chair-person, and Sister Clarice Holmes, Reporter.

constantly thank Jesus that His blood sacrifice eliminates any impossible guidelines or requirements required of us that would prevent us from experiencing Psalm 16:11… in thy presence [is] fullness of joy; at thy right hand [there are] pleasures for evermore. Even though this verse will be fully experienced in our eternal presence with God; as His children, we are privy to sample this experience in this present life. “In His Presence” we experience indescribable joy, peace, love, acceptance, assurance, and the list goes on and on. In God’s presence we experience Psalm 61:3- for You are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let’s continue to pray, praise, sing, shout, read
and obey His Word so that we can maintain our position “In His Presence”. Then, we won’t do what Adam and Eve did in Genesis 3:8- And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Let’s not be distracted by the entertainment of the world which will keep us from fellowshipping “In the Presence” of our Great God.
