A SENSATIONAL SEPTEMBER AT BETHEL

PASTOR REGINALD POPE

September started with powerful messages by our pastor, Reginald Pope in the 8:00 am and 11:00 am worship services, his subject was From the Passover to the Lord’s Supper, scriptures from St. Luke 22:12-20, “And he shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready. And they went, and found as he had said unto them; and they made ready the Passover. And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him. And he said unto them, with desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I say unto you, I will not

any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God. And he took the cup and gave thanks, and said, take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, this is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you. But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. ICUJP HONORS JAMES LAWSON, SOCIAL JUSTICE GIANT by F. Finley McRae

Glowing tributes were showered Sunday on the Rev. James Lawson, the nation’s widely acknowledged gold standard of non-violent strategies to create systemic social and economic change. Rev. Lawson, praised by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., as “the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world,” was presented with the 2nd Annual George Regas Courageous Peacemaker Award, in a service at Holman United Methodist Church. Rev. Lawson shepherded Holman for 32 years,

from 1974 until 2006. In 2006, Vanderbilt University, which expelled Rev. Lawson from its Divinity School after he launched the Nashville student movement to hasten segregation’s demise, corrected its judgement by appointing him to a Distinguished Visiting Professorship. He served in that capacity until 2011. The award, created by Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP), honors recipients’ whose work and lives reflect an exalted peace consciousness and sustained

efforts to expand it. ICUJP, according to its vision statement, organizes, educates and advocates “for justice and peace, at home and abroad, deeply committed to the mission that Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence.” Among the tributes Rev. Lawson received were statements from elected and appointed officials, celebrities and prominent religious and union leaders nationwide. In attendance were retired Congresswoman Diane Watson and three Methodist

bishops--the Rt. Revs. Charles Wesley Jordan, Mary Ann Swenson and Minerva Carcano.’ Congresswoman Karen Bass and Second District Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas sent Proclamations. Other prominent clergy in attendance included USC Professor Cecil L. Murray, Presiding Elder Norman Copeland, representing the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Rev. Louis Chase, senior minister, Hamilton United Methodist Church, Dr. Continued On Page 3 JAMES LAWSON ...

Greater New Unity - In Memoriam: Sister Alice Martin Stabler Roy

SISTER ALICE MARTIN STABLER ROY

It is once again, that the Pastor, Officers, members, friends and family of the Greater New Unity Baptist Church bow in humble submission to the will of our Heavenly Father who has seen fit to come amongst our family and pluck one of His beautiful flowers from our midst, Sister Alice Martin Roy. On Sunday, September 10, 2012 that Sweet Chariot from on high swung down real low, on the second floor of Kaiser, to be exact, and gently gave our Alice Martin Roy a ride in the FIRST CLASS SECTION, and came for to carry her home, in the words of that great, Negro

hymn of long ago... Though shocked and saddened, we know that Sis. Alice Roy was saved and has gone home to get her reward. Forbes recently published a list of the 19 most generous persons in the world, among them being Warren Buffet, Paul Allen, Michael Bloomberg, and Bill Gates, but there is a 20th that we have to add to that list and her name is Alice Roy!! She was one of the most generous, giving, and big-hearted persons who enjoyed lavishing the best of everything on her family, friends, loved ones, and THE CHURCH!! Alice Roy pam-

property He had on earth – His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend. Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is a centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress. I am far within the mark when I say that all the armies that ever marched, all the navies that were ever built; all the parliaments that ever sat and all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man upon this earth as powerfully as has that one solitary life.” (Dr. Allen Francis) A word of caution from Dr. Hardwick “Keep your mind focused on Jesus. Think about the way He lived. His kindness, gentleness, mercy and joy, and the sacrifice He made for you and for me.” Dr. Hardwick also states, “Don’t worry about what other people think of you. Run the race that the Lord has laid out for your life.” Dr. Hardwick knows this very same Jesus who was with him when he began his ministry some 57 years ago, is still with him, and He has never forsaken him. Guess what? This is the good news: He is available to you and to me, and He has a plan for our lives. Each one of us must seek Him while He can still

be found and live out our own salvation. It is a personal matter, and no one else can do it for you. So join us as we thank God for the love He pours out on us, as we honor this servant of Gospel. Remember, it is truly “STILL ALL ABOUT JESUS”. To God be the glory! Dr. J. Benjamin Hardwick, Senior Pastor, Sister Faye Williams, Chair-person, and Sister Clarice Holmes, Reporter.

Sunday, October 7, 2012, New Revelation, Rev. William Turner; Union Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Milton Marshall; Greater New Unity, Rev. Randy Allison; and Calvary Baptist Church, Rev. Virgil Jones will all help us close out this glorious celebration in a powerful way. Down through the years, his beautiful wife, Mrs. Hardwick has been at our Pastor’s side as God has blessed him to achieve many great things, while proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in more sermons than can be numbered, saving countless numbers of souls, traveling to distant places, conversing with dignitaries here and abroad, and has always done so with the humble-servant attitude of Christ. Dr. Hardwick reminds us: “If you never learn anything else about the life and ministry of Jesus, then you should know He was a humble

servant willing to love and serve others, rather than being served himself. If this was the attitude of Jesus, then what should ours be? If we are humbled before Him as servants, we are imitators of Christ, and that is what our Christian walk should be about!” For those who may not know him let me tell you all about Him: “Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was an itinerant preacher. He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself... While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying His executioners gambled for the only piece of

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL Fight to WIN Life experiences have illustrated that we are in the heat of battle for our spiritual, emotional and physical survival! However, part of winning any battle depends on 1) if one fights back and 2) the manner of fight used. The Christian Journey is engaged in an on-going battle. Satan is out to totally annihilate us. However, if he can’t accomplish that, he seeks to wound us to the degree that we are spiritually ineffective being non-productive and unfruitful. We are warned in John 10:10a- The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. We are warring against a mighty enemy who within our own

might and strength we cannot defeat. Just as Daddy-God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our lives, Satan hates us and has a plan of destruction for our lives. Nonetheless, we are told in Ephesians 6:10—Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Because we belong to the Lord God and He is ALWAYS with us, we can be courageous in this war and also have the assurance of His Word working on our behalf. Scholar Guzik gives the following reasons as to why we should be willing to fight the battle to win; “1) In light of all that God has done for you. 2) The glorious standing you have as a child of God.

DR. TONYA LEWIS

3) His great plan of the ages that God has made you part of. 4) The plan for Christian maturity and growth He gives to you. 5) The conduct God calls every believer to live. 6) The filling of the Spirit and our walk in the Spirit.7) In light of

“The Bible is central to our faith,” said Pastor Kalvin E. Cressel, Sr. of Greater Mt. Sinai MBC No. 2, in the City of Compton,” but many people are intimidated by its scope and size. The Story gives us a way to journey from Genesis to Revelation together in 31 weeks so everyone understands God’s story and how their story intersects with it.” The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how many people are actually reading it? A Gallup survey reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16 percent of Americans read it everyday. Pastor KC of GMSMBC No. 2 is hoping to reverse this trend, starting with his own congregation; strongly believing that The Story, a Zondervan best-seller, is the right tool to increase Biblical literacy and help readers understand God’s story and how their own stories intersect with God’s. The Story Church Campaign is a unique program providing up to 31 weeks, studying 31 chapters of carefully-selected scrip-

tures sequenced in chronological order. The Story presents the Word of God in an engaging format, reading like a novel and consists of a curriculum for children, teens and adult Sunday school and up to 31 weeks of corresponding sermons. When accompanied by reading through the five agerelated books (The Story, The Story: Teen Edition, The Story for Kids, The Story for Children and The Story for Little Ones), the entire Church can be literally on the same page for 31 weeks. GMSMBC No. 2 plans to begin the experience on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 10:45 a.m. and invite the community-at-large to join us on this most amazing journey. Pastor KC has declared “I want my congregation, as well as

“AS WE FORGIVE OUR DEBTORS”

Matt 18:23-35 Gives the account of the unforgiving servant. It reads, Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who wanted to reconcile accounts with his servants. When he had begun to reconcile, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. But because he couldn’t pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant there-

fore fell down and kneeled before him, saying, ‘Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!’ The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt. “But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, ‘Pay me what you owe!’ “So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying,

‘Have patience with me, and I will repay you!’ He would not, but went and cast him into prison, until he should pay back that which was due. So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done. Then his lord called him in, and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! Although the description in verses 18-21 leaves no doubt that the writer has Sinai in mind, he makes no explicit reference to the mountain of revelation. The phenomena listed are all associated with the Sinai event (see Deuteronomy 4:11). Elsewhere, they are all linked with the presence of God: “fire” (Judges 13:20; 1 Kings 18:38), “darkness” (1 Kings 8:12), and “tempest” (Nahum 1:3); the “trumpet” (Hebrews 12:19) are all associated with the end time when God will manifest Himself (Matthew 24:31; 1 Corinthians 15:52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16). The picture is one that strikes terror in the heart. He sounds the note of warning that great privilege means great responsibility. The Israelites were terrified by the experience. They responded to “a sound of words” by pleading that no further message be given to them (Hebrews 12:19b). T he w ri ter ’s stat ement summarizes Deuteronomy

5:23-27; it particularly reflects on Deuteronomy 5:25, where the people express the fear that they will be consumed by the fire if they continue to listen to the voice (see Exodus 20:18-19). So they asked that they should hear God’s voice no more (Exodus 20:19; Deuteronomy 5:2527). They were overcome with terror and wanted no further part in the wonderful events. The fearfulness of the giving of the law on Sinai is brought out with reference to one of the commands laid on the people, namely, that neither man nor beast should even touch the mountain under penalty of death (Exodus 19:13). “The writer [of Hebrews 12:20] focuses upon the most stringent aspect of the command . . . ‘if even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned,’ in order to emphasize the gravity of the injunction and the peril of coming before the annihilating holiness of the divine appearing” (Lane, 463). In effect, the command that nothing touch it indicates the holiness of the mountain. Judgment for anyone who ignores the holiness of God is swift and terrible. Hebrews 12:21 is a further indication of the awe of it all. At the time of the giving of the law, Moses was the leader of the people. He was known as one who had an especially close relationship with God (Exodus 33:11). Yet, even he was terrified. It was a scary occasion, one that affected all the people and terrified even Moses, the man of God. 22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the

1-888-290-7277 heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. “But” is the strong conjunction that (Gk. alla, al-LAH) and introduces a marked contrast. Christians order their lives in accordance with a different revelation. Scholar William Lane writes, “In sharp contradistinction from the scene at Sinai, every aspect of this vision provides encouragement for coming boldly into the presence of God (see 4:16). The atmosphere at Mount Zion is festive. The frightening visual imagery of blazing fire, darkness, and gloom fades before the reality of the city of the living God, heavenly Jerusalem. The cacophony of whirlwind, trumpet blast, and a sound of words is muted and replaced by the joyful praise of angels in a festal gathering. The trembling congregation of Israel . . . is superseded by the assembly of those whose names are permanently inscribed in the heavenly archives. An overwhelming impression of the distant God is eclipsed in the experience of full access to the presence of God and of Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant” (Lane, 464-465). The destination of the Christian pilgrims is described by various evocative images.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT HONORING MY PASTOR

DR. JOYCE HARRELL

And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13). Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine, (I Timothy 5:17). How well are we recognizing to those who labor among us and are over us

in the Lord? How well are we esteeming our pastor’s highly in love because of the work that they do? How well are we giving double honor to those who labor in the word and doctrine? What are we doing to honor our pastors? How do we put these instructions from 1 Thessalonians and I Timothy in action? I’m glad you asked! First of all I accomplish this by recognizing my Pastor’s position, and giving honor where honor is due, Romans 13:7. As a leader how you view your pastor, and how you respond to him is vital to your spiritual development and your effectiveness as a spiritual leader. Are you obedient to your pastor? Do you respond willingly to his instruction? As a leader how you respond is also key to how those you give leadership to also respond. Do you seek counsel and direction from your pastor before making any major decisions? The

Pastor was put in place by God to over see our souls, he is our soul watcher. That means that he has been given authority by God to watch over our souls. With that said, does your pastor have the right to over see your soul only on Sunday mornings or have you submitted to his authority to over see your soul in all aspects of your life? I encourage you today to submit to the Pastor’s authority, and to not do anything with out his counsel that would have an impact on your spiritual well being. Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Hebrew 12:17. Dr. Joyce is a layperson at Mt. NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET First, they are “come unto” Mount Zion (Hebrews 12:22). This is to be understood not as the seat of temporal Israel but as a reference to God’s eschatological rule through Christ, just as in Revelation 14:1-5. Second, Hebrews 12:22 states that they have come to the “city of the living God,” a city with foundations that the patriarchs looked forward to and one that is eternal (13:14). The book of Revelation also uses this image for God’s presence, when it speaks of a “holy city” (21:2; 22:19). Third, Hebrews 12:22 says they have come to the “heavenly Jerusalem” a designation that is called “new Jerusalem” in Revelation 3:12. It does not go without notice that the city of God is filled with life and contains a more vibrant, dynamic, and powerful sort than is available on earth. Hebrews 12:22 says there are “innumerable” or “countless numbers” (Gk. murias, moo-REE-as) of angels who are present as part of the welcoming and celebratory throng. Then we have the church of the firstborn. In verse 23, the Greek word ekklesia (ek-klay-SEE-ah), translated as “church,” is t a ke n f r o m t h e c o m m o n civic life of the Greeks and normally refers to the official gathering of the officials or their representatives. The “firstborn” (Gk. prototokia, pro-tot-OK-ee-ah) probably refers to all those “sons” whom God is leading into glory together with Jesus (Hebrews 2:10). Understood this way, it means “the spirits of just men made perfect” (12:23), or the spirits of righteous people. It is another way of describing the same participants in the true inheritance, which is a participation in God’s holiness. In summation, the city of God is filled with angels and saints. The climax is reached in verse 24 with the reference to Jesus, seen here as “the mediator of a new covenant.” The author does not only affirm the humanity of Jesus and His role as mediator but also places Him definitively at God’s side, a place that was His from the beginning (Hebrews 1:1-4). Jesus’ blood speaks “a better word” than that of Abel (12:24, NIV). His blood opens up a way into the holiest for people (10:19). 25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. 27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire. The transition from exposition in Hebrews 12:18-24 to exhortation in verses 25-29 is abrupt, and the author, with a sharp change in tone, resumes the expression of urgent concern that characterizes ve r s e s 1 4 - 1 7 . H e r e , t h e sternness of the warning is

justified by the detailing of the privileged status of Christians in verses 18-24. They have a qualitatively greater responsibility than Israel did to listen attentively to the voice of God. Those who deliberately ignore the eschatological revelation of God through his Son and who show contempt for the blessings of the New Covenant cannot possibly escape judgment. The concluding paragraph consists of a sober caution to listen to what God is saying, a concentration of His Word in the form of prophecy, and a final admonition to respond appropriately with gratitude and worship. A tendency toward apathy or complacency is sharply rebuked with the phrase, “Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking” (12:25, NLT). The form of the statement recalls 3:12, and it connotes a deliberate and culpable refusal to listen to the one speaking. The readers must also be aware that the greater the gift, the greater the responsibility, and the greater the peril involved in its rejection. In 12:26, the author goes on to recall the solemnity of the events at Sinai. Repeatedly, we are told that then the earth shook (Exodus 19:18; Judges 5:4-5; Psalm 68:8; 77:18; 114:4, 7). The writer of Hebrews has already spoken of the awe-inspiring nature of what happened when the law was given. Now, the reference to the shaking of the earth brings it all back. At the same time, it enables him to go on to speak of a promise that involved a further shaking that is recorded in Haggai 2:6. The prophet looked forward to something much grander than Sinai. Then God shook the earth, but Haggai foresaw a day when God would shake “not only the earth but also the heavens” (Hebrews 12:26, NLT). This will be no small event but one of cosmic grandeur. The reference to heaven and earth may be meant to hint at the concept of the new heaven and the new earth (Isaiah 66:22). At any rate, it points to the decisive intervention that God will make at the last time. In Hebrews 12:27, the writer uses the expression “yet once more” (Gk. eti hapax, ETee HAP-ax) to point out the decisive significance of the things of which he is writing. There is an air of finality about it all. God is going to make a radical and final change. This is the decisive time. This physical creation can be shaken, and it is set in contrast to what cannot be shaken. These are the things that really matter, the things that have the character of permanence. The author does not go into detail about the precise nature of the ultimate rest. But whatever it may be, it will separate the things that last forever from those that do not. It is God’s will for this final differentiation to be made so that only what cannot be shaken will remain. As Donald Guthrie notes, what the writer is “concerned to demonstrate is that the Christian position, unlike the era of the Mosaic law, leads to a state of absolute stability” (Guthrie, 265). The ultimate reality of God’s sovereignty is evident in verse 28. Believers have received the kingdom of God, which cannot

2012 WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION at NEW COMMANDMENT MBC “SEEKING, STRUGGLING, and SERVING”

DR. REV. GRADY AND FIRST LADY ELOIS JONES

LADY ROSE NEALE

Sunday, September 23, 2012, 4:00p.m., the women of New Commandment under the pastoral leadership of Dr Rev Grady Jones, First Lady Elois Jones, women coordinators, Sis Peggy Rose and Cindy Elder wish to invite all in the Southern California area basin to join us during this blessed and anointed service. Each year the women of New Commandment continue to grow in the word of God serving in any capacity feasible. To be able to fellowship with the women is a magnificent feat and is a constant reminder of an “Awesome” God that always provide what we need. Won’t you join us for this fellowship? The women have selected “Seeking, Struggling, and Serving” as the theme for this service, with biblical references found in Ruth 3:11 which reads: “And now, my

daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.” Lady Rose M Neale has graciously agreed to be our keynote speaker for the day. She has been dedicated to the Lord since the age of seven (7), serving HIM by spreading the “good news” of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ through traveling extensively throughout the country, singing gospel music for over fifty (50) years. Special guest are the Women’s Chorus of New Commandment, under the leadership of Recording Star, Carlotta, NCMBC Praise Dancers and additional musical groups. This service expresses an air of excitement that is difficult

to contain. You need to be here! New Commandment is located one mile north of the 91 Freeway and one mile south of the 105 Freeway at 15548 Paramount Blvd, Paramount CA. Please don’t hesitate to call us for additional information, need prayer, or to just comment on something we can assist you with, at (562) 531-7703. We love you and pray all is well with you. Remember there is nothing that happens in your life that you and God cannot handle, together through prayer and fasting, leaning on the Lord. be shaken. The Kingdom is something we “receive.” It is not earned or created by believers; it is God’s gift. Although undefined, like in the Gospels, the Kingdom is in stark contrast with earthly systems that can be shaken and in due course will be shaken. This is untrue of God’s kingdom! The author does not simply say that it will not be shaken but that it cannot be. It has a quality found in nothing earthly. It is on the strength of this that the writer gives two exhortations: “let us have grace” and “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear” (emphasis added). The exhortations could also be understood to mean, “Let us be thankful, and let us offer acceptable worship to God.” The latter meaning is preferred. The appropriate response to the gift we have received is gratitude to God and acceptable worship, that is, in living a life that is pleasing to God. The qualification “with reverence and godly fear” constitutes a sober reminder of the holy character of God. The chapter concludes with an expression apparently taken from Deuteronomy 4:24. The author of Hebrews 12 emphasizes that God is not to be trifled with. It is easy to be so taken up with the love and compassion of God that we overlook His implacable opposition to all evil. The wrath of God is not always a popular subject today, but it looms large in biblical teaching. Because God is in fact a consuming fire, we do best to come to Him on His terms.

Shouldn’t you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?’ His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don’t each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds.” In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus gives a prayer template to the disciples that we call “The Lord’s Prayer”. One of the prayer points he includes is, forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors or some translations read those who trespass against us. Father in the name of Jesus, help me to release any and everyone that I am consciously and unconsciously holding in my heart for how they have trespassed against me. and exhausting Memphis Garbage Strike. That strike was won, in no small measure, by Dr. King’s shed blood, after he was struck down by an assassin’s bullet. En-route to Washington, D. C. and the Poor people’s Campaign, he returned to Memphis when Rev. Lawson urged him to speak and thus lift the strikers flagging spirits. Six years later, Rev. Lawson arrived from the battlefields in the south and took

the helm of Holman Church. Throwing himself into social justice battles here, Rev. Lawson helped organize Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE) and was its first chairman. A plethora of other organizing efforts, across race and ethnic lines, also bear his signature: Justice for Janitors and the agonizing struggle to win living wages for security and healthcare workers. “I am honored to be your friend,” Rabbi Beerman said in his remarks. “You are my hero,” said Kent Wong, director of UCLA’s Center for Labor Research and Education. Rev. Lawson, in his message to the packed assemblage, challenged everyone in this presidential election year, to “get in the way of the forces of wickedness and evil, which have disguised themselves as people doing the right thing.” This is the task for everyone, Rev. Lawson said, but especially for “the five groups--Latinos, Jews, Asians, Native Americans and blacks--the people who were told ‘you are not wanted.’ Reflecting over Rev. Lawson’s shining life and legacy, Holman’s senior minister, Rev. Kelvin Sauls, told Raise The Praise, “our challenge as a church is, how do we, in this time, continue to be prophetic?”

THE PROCESS......

MACEDONIA BAPTIST CHURCH USHERS/NURSES & FIRST AIDERS ANNUAL DAY

Struggling to Remain Committed Pt. #1 “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” – Matthew 19:4-6

It isn’t very difficult to discern the fact that we live in a culture that struggles with commitments of all kinds – with relationships & marriage being of no exception. When the by Andrea Andrews Pharisees boldly approached Jesus to question Him about “divorce”, Jesus responded with a Word He was present for in the beginning from the Book of Genesis. As a man unites with his wife, they become ONE flesh. So, then…if this is stated in biblical text MORE than once, why is it so very easy to walk away? Furthermore, how do we address this pandemic facing the global church? It would seem the church has taken a cavalier approach to preparing men & women for and supporting them through the covenant of marriage. Typically, preparation begins when a Christian couple calls their church to book their wedding date. Almost simultaneously, they are asked to schedule premarital counseling with clergy. But, is this the appropriate time to begin preparation? Or should it begin long before this point? “…nearly half of all Americans who accept Jesus Christ as their savior do so before reaching the age of 13 (43%), and that two out of three born again Christians (64%) made that commitment to Christ before their 18th birthday. One out of eight born again people (13%) made their profession of faith while 18 to 21 years old.” – The Barna Research Group. \With such powerful statistics, shouldn’t a decent part of Christian Education include preparing one’s self to become a proper candidate for marriage? The Bible even reminds us that if we “raise a child up in the way they should go…”

Commitment and covenant should be an important variable on all levels including matrimony… (To be continued) Peace, Love & Blessings

FIGHT TO WIN........

is the Word of God. 18- Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. Guzik further comments; “We express the strength we have in God by standing against Satan’s schemes against us which come to nothing when we stand against them in the power of God. You are in a spiritual battle. If you are ignorant or ignore that fact, you probably aren’t winning the battle. Principalities and powers have many different levels and

many different ranks, yet they all have one goal: to knock the Christian down from their place of standing. It is completely irrelevant if the particular opponent we face is a principality, a power, or a ruler of the darkness of this age. Collectively, they are all members of spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. They are all part of a spiritual army that is organized and established into ranks - and under the headship of Satan, the devil, who comes against us with his tricks. God has given rael B.C., and Pastor Anthony Smith & Jericho B.C.; FRIDAY, SEPT. 21ST -7:30 P.M. you may kick-off your weekend with Dr. Susie Jones & Yahweh’s House of Prayer (speaker), Pastor Raymond Chandler & Greater Love Christian Fellowship, and Pastor Shep Crawford & ECM Ministries; SUNDAY, SEPT. 23RD – 3:30 P.M., the celebration peaks with Pastor Kevin Stafford & Zion Baptist Evangelistic Temple (ZBET) (speaker), Bishop Broderick Huggins & St. Paul B.C. us a call, a mission, a course to fulfill. Satan will do his best to stop it. When he attacks and intimidates, we are to stand, which means we are going to be attacked, we must not be frightened, we must not droop or slouch, don’t be uncertain or half-hearted in the fight (no self-pity is allowed), we are at our position and alert and we do not give even a thought to retreat.” Guzik continues; Thoughts, feelings, imaginations, fears, lies, all of these can be hurled at us by Satan as fiery darts. Faith turns them

back. Faith is represented as a shield, protecting us from the fiery darts of the wicked one, those persistent efforts of demonic foes to weaken us through fear and unbelief. The helmet of salvation protects us against discouragement, against the desire to give up, giving us hope not only in knowing that we are saved, but that we will be saved. It is the assurance that God will triumph. Not only did the Sword of the Spirit give us the Scriptures, but also He makes them alive to us, and equips us ….”
