The Church was organized on October 24, 1944 by the late Rev. F. D. Ferrell and 38 “Charter Members,” who were inspired to organize a Baptist Church and “Call” a Pastor. Of the original “Charter Members,” only two survive. The seeds of faith sown 65 years ago have blossomed, and the “TABERNACLE” stands as a strong and vibrant Religious Tower within the Watts area, our city, state and nation. Pastor Ferrell gave both dynamic and outstanding “Pastoral Leadership” from 1944 to 1982. Dr. Charles Mims, Jr., served as Pastor from 1982-1996. Dr. R.M.Leffall was

Mount Horeb MBC Celebrates Mother Rosalie Williams 100th Birthday MOTHER ROSALIE WILLIAMS HONOREE
“Happy 100th Birthday” is extended to MOTHER ROSALIE WILLIAMS, who has lived to meet one of the great eternal promises of God found in Psalm 90:10-”The days of our years are threescore and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow;
for it is soon cut off, and we fly away”. In this pray of Moses, he recognizes that longevity has its place in life when we “obey God” who extends our years upon the earth. It seems rather clear that God has extended Mother Rosalie Williams years upon the earth. While life is and has been brief for many, Mother Williams life has been filled with extended blessings of the Lord. This journey started in Hayneville, Louisiana on September, 1909 when Seth and Eula Gibson Philips discovered their
love for each other and Mother Williams became their first and most precious by-product of that treasured gift. Mother Williams would later share her parents love with two other sisters (Mattie Johnson and Iva Ruth Davis) who have gone to be with the Lord. Mother Iva Ruth Davis was a treasured choir member and pianist of the Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church and where Mother Williams has been a charter member since its inceptions in 1984.

During her early years, Mother Williams would be educated in the Louisiana Public School System. But she was not content to stay in Louisiana so at age 26, she packed up her “few things” and headed west, that’s right, to California. But she did a marvelous thing before she left Hayneville-she realized that if she was going to make it “away from home.” she needed to prepare for the ups and downs of life that would surely challenge her. so she went to church with her parents and one day she hears the preacher challenge her to come forward; so she thought! then she got up went down front, sat on the “Mourner’s Bench” until the Holy Ghost told her it was time to “make Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior”. So after a few nights there, she stood and confessed that Jesus Christ would be her Savior for the rest of her days. After accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, Rosalie joined the Friendship Baptist Church, in Louisiana. After accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior, she found out
that someone had been looking at her; that’s right, her natural beauty was eye catching and she attracted a handsome young man name John Williams who popped the big question and of course, Rosalie said “yes, yes, yes.” It was in 1932 that Rosalie and John Williams united in holy matrimony. The Louisiana economy was not great, kind of like today’s forecast, so they packed their belonging and headed west, that’s right, the came to Los Angeles in 1937. Sensing the need to keep in touch with her Lord and Savior, Mother Williams united with the Progressive Baptist Church in Los Angeles. But some forty years late, she decided it was time to move her membership to Mount Horeb where she has served faithfully in person and from a distance as President of the Mothers board. Rosalie is an inspiration to the Pastor and Members of Mount Horeb. So, on Sunday, October 11, 2009 the Pastor and Members of Mount Horeb, in grand fashion celebrated in love, Mother
Rosalie Williams “100th Birthday.” She was decked in a beautiful dress, sitting in her wheelchair, smiling, still pretty, and you could see the joy she experience by being with her “church family” whom she would not “trade for anything in the world because they have been so good to me” over the years. Nowadays, Mother Williams spends her time at the Torrance Care Center with others who have also lived a great number of years. Rosalie is the oldest person there, if not the second oldest and she tells everybody about “her church family and how they are so good to her.” Rosalie has no children and has outlived nearly all of her first and second generation relatives. However, she is so blessed to have one special cousin, Mother Louise Richardson; her loving husband Brother Joe, and Sister Mattie Wilson to come see her regularly. They go out once or twice a week to see about Mother Continued on Page 6

BIG HAPPENINGS: GOD’S KEEPERS OF HUMANITY CELEBRATES 4TH YEAR PASTOR & WIFE APPRECIATION
REV. GEORGE W. CRISS PASTOR
We bring to you “BIG HAPPENINGS” with warm greetings in the name of Christ, as we mark yet another milestone honoring our Pastor, Reverend George W. Criss & 1st Lady, Minister Tanya Criss in the 4th Year Pastor & Wife Appreciation Services. We invite
you to come share a part in the services on any of the following dates: Oct. 11th, Oct. 18th & Oct. 25 th at 3:30 p.m. THEME: A Pastor Sent by God to Empower the People. (Supporting Scripture Romans 10:14-15.) Pastor Criss & 1st Lady Minister Criss are both living examples of unmoveable, faithful, God sent Messengers, who have been empowered by God. In good times and bad, they have continued to fight the good fight of faith. It is evident, through faith, they have had the ability to perservere against all Satanic devices to destroy the work of God, nonetheless they still prevail. Pastor Criss has been stedfast, instant in season and out of season preaching the uncompromising gospel. Also a great asset to the church is our 1st Lady, Minister Tanya Criss. We salute them both
for their monumental efforts to courageously encourage those who are down-trodden and providing hope to the needy. The Appreciation Services will take place at God’s Keepers of Humanity Baptist Church, 5428 S. Brodway in the City of Los Angeles. Special Guests include: (Oct. 11th) New Pleasant Grove Pastor W. H. Keep in Mind: "Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me" (Mark 10:21). Peer pressure, changing fads, and parents' words not meaning as much as they once did seem to be the order of the day. Many teens really struggle with finding themselves. We all want to be accepted and fit in; sometimes we are willing to do almost anything to make that happen. Angela, growing up an only child, always wanted to be popular. Her looks didn't match the world's standards. She was dark skinned, with long thick hair, thick glasses, and a body that was developing very slowly. She was also considered the teacher's pet, another strike against her among her peers. Despite the odds against her, popularity was still an ongoing desire. At school, she constantly struggled with wanting to fit in. At church, she seemed to find her place. The school kids tried to pull her to do things they were involved in, assuring her popularity. One of the activities that they were committed to was skating on Wednesday nights. However, the church kids went to Mission and Bible class on Wednesday nights. Sometimes, Angela was torn between desiring to be popular, hanging out with the school crowd, and really wanting to follow Jesus and go to church. It seemed easier to just go skating than to endure the taunts and teasing at school on Thursdays for not having shown up. However, she knew when she went skating and didn't go to church she wasn't being obedient to God. Why did things have to be so hard? The tug of war inside her felt bad and kind of weird, too, as she tried to decide what mattered most: giving up what her friends at school wanted her to do, for what God wanted her to do. God wants us to forsake all others and follow Him. As in today's lesson, Jesus told His disciples, no one who has left home, or brothers or sisters, or mother or father or children or fields for Him and the Gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age and in the age to come, eternal life. The People, Places, and Times A "needle's eye" is thought by some to be the small gate for pedestrians situated in or by the large city gate through which a camel, by kneeling and with great difficulty, could pass. More accurately, it is thought to be an actual needle. At any rate, Jesus meant an "impossible" thing (Mark 10:27). Then, He modified it by saying that the impossible for men is possible for God. Background For a man of wealth to bow before a teacher indicated tremendous respect. We know that in many ancient religious traditions, such as those practiced by Jews and Greeks, at least some disciples asked their teachers questions like the one this rich man asks Jesus. To "inherit eternal life" meant to share in the life of the coming world, the life of the kingdom of God (v. 17). Without denying that He Himself is good, Jesus reminds the man of the standard Jewish conception of God's goodness. If only God is good, the man will have to admit he has broken some commandment, but the commandments Jesus had listed were kept by most well-raised, educated Jewish people. Judaism stressed charity heavily (Exodus 22:25; 23:6; 35:521; Leviticus 27:33), but Jewish teachers did not normally require a prospective disciple to divest himself entirely of funds, as Jesus does in Mark 10:21. Several teachers, especially some radical Greek teachers, made such demands on rich students to see if they would value true teaching above their wealth; a few rich persons gave up their goods, but most disappointed such teachers. A wealthy person could relinquish wealth only by God's grace (vv. 26-27). Most of Jesus' disciples had not been poor (being fishermen and tax gatherers) but had abandoned their economic positions to follow Him. Their reward would be found as believers in sharing possessions, as a family in this world, and in receiving the life of the kingdom of God in the world to come. Most Jewish people understood that Judgment Day would turn things upside down; those who appear great in this world will be nothing in the next, and those who were nothing in this world will be great in the next. Jewish people applied this principle to the exaltation of Israel over the other nations. The oppressed were righteous over their wicked oppressors, but Jesus applies the notion also to individual rank and status. IN DEPTH 1. Jesus Explains: Eternal Life and His Kingdom (Mark 10:17-22) When he ran to Jesus recognizing Him as the "Good Master" or the "Good Teacher" (v. 17), the man was excited. He knew who Jesus was and wanted to know what he could do to inherit eternal life. Jesus also knew him and recognized the commandments this man knew. He told the man specifically. This man agreed with Jesus and added
OCTOBER 25-- BIBLE STUDY GUIDE 21 the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. 23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! 24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. 26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? 27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. 28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. that he had observed these commandments all the way back to his youth. However, Jesus knew that there was something the man was holding on to that stood between the man and his Saviour. He knew that this young man had not surrendered everything unto God. So Jesus told him to sell everything he had and give it to the poor (v. 21). Once the man was obedient and did what Jesus asked, he would have treasure in heaven. This was only the beginning of what Jesus wanted from this man. He wanted the man to come, take up the Cross and then follow Him. This is what Jesus wants from all of His disciples. He is appealing, really, to all those who believe. Jesus is calling. Fanny J. Crosby, the famous songwriter says, "Jesus is waiting, O come to Him now. Waiting today, waiting today; Come with thy sins, at His feet lowly bow. Come and no longer delay. Can't you hear Jesus calling today, calling for obedience, calling for total surrender, calling, calling, and calling" (The New National Baptist Hymnal, 21st Century Edition, 171). Hearing what Jesus said, this man was saddened. He went away grieving because he realized he had great possessions which he didn't want to relinquish. The reality of what Jesus said was very hard to handle. Knowing it was true and how much he would have to give up made him very sad. In other words, this man's possessions meant more to him than Jesus did. This would mean that he would have to put Jesus first before any other person or thing. The man was not willing to do that, so he walked away sad. Jesus already knew this would be his response. Jesus didn't try to reason with the rich man or compromise his decision. He doesn't force us to follow Him; He wants us to do it willingly. 2. Jesus Explains: It Will Be Hard for the Rich (vv. 23-27) Using every opportunity to teach, Jesus looked around at His disciples and explained to them how hard it is for a wealthy person to enter the kingdom of God. The disciples were amazed. Jesus repeated Himself, adding an analogy: "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God" (v. 25). This example, easy to picture, also illuminated the great tension between the commitments of the wealthy and the kingdom of God. The disciples heard Jesus say this and were even more amazed. They began to ask each other: "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and explained further that without God, salvation is impossible but with God all things are possible. This gave the disciples hope. They no longer had to focus on themselves and how they would fail at what seemed to be such a difficult task. They were able to see the power of God and what He could do for them. They realized that in and of themselves they would fail, but with God all things are always possible. 3. Jesus Explains: What It Means to Give Up All (vv. 28-31) Being very outspoken, Peter said to Jesus, "We have left everything to follow you" (v. 28). Jesus responded by assuring him and the other disciples that anyone who has left everything will receive a hundred times as much in this present age, including persecutions, and in the age to come, eternal life. Jesus did not fail to tell them that persecutions would come along with the reward. We don't always want to consider the travails that come with following Jesus, but this isn't something we should overlook. Jesus suffered persecution, and we are no greater than our Master. Forsaking all others and everything else, including worldly possessions, involves difficult challenges. Jesus also talked about the "hundredfold" they would receive (v. 30). This isn't necessarily speaking of specific houses, brothers, or sisters, but probably something equal to these. To make up for the losses, Jesus will give back much more than what was lost. Jesus went further; there is greater in store for the time to come: "You shall have eternal life." This is far greater than the hundredfold, greater than a thousand-fold for all the loss they suffered. Then Jesus goes even further and says, "But many that are first will be last; and the last first" (v. 31). In essence, He was saying that those who were considered to be high on the scale of economic, social, or cultural status will be considered last or low on the scale in the time to come. God's kingdom—eternal life— isn't about a person's earthly material possessions; it is about where his or her heart is. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Mark 10:17-31 17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? We are not told the young man's name, but his purpose in coming to Jesus is clear. He wants to know what to do to inherit eternal life. The word "inherit" in the Greek (kleronomeo, klay-ron-om-EHo), means "to receive an assigned or allotted portion as one's own or as a possession; to partake of, to obtain." His question is eschatological and focuses on doctrine regard-
ing Judgment Day. "Eternal" in the Greek (aionios, ahee-O-nee-os) means "without beginning; without end, everlasting." As we will learn later, his financial situation is quite secure, but he is uncertain about his eternal state. He comes to Jesus expressing what many commentators see as genuine respect for Jesus. He falls to his knees and addresses Jesus as the "Good Master." Yet his question reveals a problem with his theology. His phrase, "what must I do" (NIV, emphasis added), indicates that the man believes it is within his power to earn his way into the kingdom of God, something that Jesus' previous statement in 10:15 denies. 18. And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. Jesus' response, though probably not intending to douse the young man's enthusiasm, challenges his ideas about goodness. The word "good" in the Greek (agathos, ag-ath-OS) means "excellent, distinguished; upright, honorable." William Lane writes, "The inquirer's idea of goodness was defined by human achievement…. Jesus' answer forces him to recognize that his only hope is utter reliance upon God, who alone can bestow eternal life" (Lane, 365). Jesus, of course, was not saying the young man was bad, only challenging his idea of goodness. The young man did not know that Jesus was God, and therefore he was centering his ideas about goodness not on God but on human achievement. 19. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother. 20. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. The word "knowest" in the Greek (eido, oida, I-do) means "to understand, perceive of any fact." Jesus pointed the young man to what he knew or understood—the Law of God, the revealed will of God as expressed in the Ten Commandments. Note that the second half of the Decalogue is quoted here, emphasizing that our response to our neighbors and loved ones demonstrates our reverence for God. Believers are warned against giving false testimony, and told not to "defraud" (Gk. pleonekteo, pleh-on-ek-TEK-o), meaning not to cheat others, or take advantage of them or their property rights. These commandments, especially, would seem pertinent for Jesus to stress to this young rich man. If the young man could keep the commandments of God, he would live. This is what any rabbi of the day would have told him. Obedience to the Law of God would mean eternal life. The man's response indicated how superficial his understanding of God's law really was. The word "observed" in the Greek (phulasso, foo-LAS-so) means "on guard from being lost or perishing." In other words, the young man told Jesus that he vigilantly kept all the commandments from his childhood. But had he really? Maybe on the surface this had been true, but one could imagine that on some level this young man had been guilty of disobeying some of the deeper implications of the Law as Jesus spelled out in His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5). Nevertheless, the young man was self-assured of his obedience to the Law, which Jesus would lovingly uncover as superficial when He challenged the man to a deeper level of obedience. 21. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. That Jesus cared for this young man's best interests is evident in the first part of this verse which notes that Jesus looked on this young man with love. The word "beholding" in the Greek (emblepo, em-BLEPo) means "to look at with the mind, to consider." Jesus really wanted to help this young man to understand clearly what obtaining eternal life entailed. He responds by calling the man to the one thing that he lacks, a single-minded devotion to God. What the young man has not done yet is to surrender himself to God, to cast himself fully upon God in child-like dependence. Jesus calls him to discipleship. He calls him to surrender himself to God and follow Jesus. For the young man, it meant giving all he had to the poor, not as a means of getting in, but as an expression that his surrender was full and true. The point here is not to suggest that everyone must sell their goods and give the proceeds to the poor in order to become Christians. Rather, our commitment involves surrendering ourselves to God in childlike dependence on Him and following Him. 22. And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. The man's response is tragic. He chose his great wealth over the eternal life that he had been so anxious at first to obtain. For him, the cost was too great and so he opted out. Therefore, he went away grieved (Gk. lupeo, oo-PEH-o), which means "deep mental or emotional suffering; painful, sharp regret." In other words, he went away sad because material riches were more important to him than the wealth of eternal life. 23. And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God! The man's response gave Jesus an opportunity to speak to his followers about trust in riches and the kingdom of God. The word "kingdom" (Gk. basileia, bas-il-I-ah) means "the royal power of Jesus as the triumphant Messiah." His kingdom will reign forever and ever. It is clear from the text that Jesus saw riches as a problem for His followers. Jesus knew that many like this rich man put their trust in their material wealth and therefore found it difficult, if not impossible, to surrender themselves fully to God. Riches weren't evil in and of themselves, but Jesus knew that people were prone to put their trust in their possessions. William Lane writes, "The peculiar danger confronting the rich, however, lies in the false sense of security which wealth creates and the temptation to trust in material resources and personal power when what is demanded by the Law and the gospel is a whole-hearted reliance upon God" (Lane, 369). 24. And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! The disciples' amazement is not surprising considering the prevailing teachings of the day. James Brooks writes, "The dominant Jewish view was that riches were an indication of divine favor and a reward for piety (Job 1:10; 42:10; Psalm 128:1-2; Isaiah 3:10)" (Brooks, 163). If this is the case, then the disciples would certainly be surprised by Jesus' teaching, which He reiterates at the end of Mark 10:24. 25. It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God. Of course, many would like to make Jesus' words here a little easier to swallow by suggesting that "the eye of a needle" merely referred to a small gate in Jerusalem which camels could go through only with
great difficulty. This would imply that joining the kingdom of God was difficult but not impossible. However, William Lane writes, "The reference to the camel and the needle are to be taken literally, for the disciples' reaction in verse 26 stems from a statement of real impossibility" (Lane, 369). 26. And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? The word "astonished" (Gk. ekplesso, ek-PLACEso) means "they were struck with amazement." The disciples' response clearly suggests that they have misunderstood Jesus' statement. If not even the rich can enter the kingdom, then who can? The disciples are evidently baffled and need clarification. 27. And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Jesus' point is this: salvation is not a matter of human achievement. A person cannot enter God's kingdom via human achievements. No! The Gospel that Jesus preached declared that salvation is a work of God. Only God can provide salvation; only He can open the way to eternal life. This is why the call to wholehearted surrender to God is given. Only trust in His power alone to save will grant us entrance into His kingdom. 28. Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee. 29. And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30. But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31. But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. Peter understood the invitation Jesus gave to the rich man and noted that he and the others had done what the rich man had not ("we have left all," v. 28). Peter's question though seemingly problematic since it focuses on rewards, is not rebuked but answered. Yes, Jesus tells him and the other disciples, there is reward for those who surrender themselves in full reliance upon God. And, as Jesus emphasizes with a summary of the radical call to surrender that the kingdom requires, a surrender to God shows itself in our willingness to be last, to be servants. Search the Scriptures 1. What are the benefits of leaving house, brothers, sisters, father, mother, wife, children, or lands for Jesus (Mark 10:29-30)? 2. What is accompanied with receiving the "hundredfold" for leaving houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, or lands for Jesus (vv. 30-31)? Discuss the Meaning 1. Why did Jesus question the rich man for calling Him "good" and saying there is none good but one (that is, God) when Jesus is God? 2. As Jesus taught the disciples, He referred to them as "children" (v. 24). What do you think Jesus was saying by calling them children? Lesson in Our Society We accept or deny people based on what they look like or what they have. If a person appears to have wealth, she or he is accepted. If a person has the "right" kind of job and lives in the "perfect" neighborhood, he or she is accepted. If a person has a last name that connects the person with the status quo, he or she is accepted. As a society, sadly, this is how we judge each other. Jesus has a different perspective. He understands and knows the heart. We may pretend to be concerned with the poor or even pretend to have a relationship with Christ. God truly knows if we are sincere or not. In the case of the rich man, Jesus knew he would walk away sad. He didn't try to force him to reconsider or try to bargain with him. God knows whether we are real. It isn't based on what we wear, who we are with, what we do for a living; Jesus knows the true commitment of our hearts, and that is how He judges us.. Make It Happen Examine your motives for the things you are doing. Are you doing them to be seen or receive approval, or are you doing them because this is what God wants from you? Have you forsaken all to follow Christ? If you are holding on to something or someone, pray and ask God to help you forsake all this for Him because you want to please Him. As you examine yourself, pray and ask God to help others to forsake all for Him as well..

A man was converted some years ago, and he was brimful of praise. He was living in the light all the time. He used to preface everything he said in the meeting with "Praise God!" One night he came to the meeting with his finger all bound up. He had cut it, and cut it badly, too. Well, I wondered how he would praise God for this; but he got up and said—"I have cut my finger; but, praise God, I didn't cut it off!" If things go against you, just remember they might be a good deal worse.

GOOD NEWS FROM ...... GREATER NEW UNITY B.C.
PASTOR RANDY ALLISON GREATER NEW UNITY B.C.
EVANG. FRANCHESCA WHITE HOLY MT. CALVARY B.C.
Greetings to you in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is STILL the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords! We are so excited to still be in the land of the living and busy with KINGDOM BUILDING!! My Godsister Sis. Sonia L. Randall Thomas, who went home to be with the Lord exactly one year ago, (miss you Sonia) and!may her soul rest in peace, use to ring this song out with all of her heart at Greater New Unity, “And it’s Another Day’s Journey, and I am Glad”! Are you glad about another day’s journey, another expression of God’s love, another chance? We are, and we are really glad about the great time of worship that we had on Sunday as the Youth of Greater New Unity allowed God to use them in a mighty way. The Youth led us in devotion and songs of praises, directed by our very own First Lady, Sis. Tiffany Allison who is doing an outstanding job!! Youth Director Sis. Arlene Andrews recognized a multitude of youth in public for their efforts in church, and at school, and of course, we had a powerful Holy Ghost annointed word coming from our Pastor, Rev. Allison! To God be the glory for the marvelous things that He has done!! Today , Sunday, October 18, the Men and Women of Greater New Unity will be celebrating their Annual Day! The
Women, regally dressed in Purple and Silver are in charge at the 10:45 Worship hour. The theme for the Men and Women is “Men and Women of today, working with a Heart like Jesus, and it is taken from 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3. Special Guest Worship Leader will Sis. Brenda Moore from the 2nd Mt. Olive B.C, Pastor Heath. Guest Speaker for the hour is Evangelist Franchesca White, member of Holy Mt. Calvary B.C. Her Pastor is Rev. Lonnie White. She is Director of Youth and the IVOC Choir; she is a drummer, and she is an anointed and powerful young woman of God who will rightly divide the word of truth! Chairperson of the Women’s Ministry is Sis. J. Stallworth and the Vice Chair is Sis. Debora Johnson. The Men will carry the baton at 3:30 pm, and their very special guests will be our long-time friends and sister church, the great St. Reed Baptist Church and Pastor C. Jones, who will have to travel an entire 20 blocks south just to be with us! That’s what friends are for!! Pastor Jones, who is the 1st Vice Moderator of the great Providence District Baptist Association, will be delivering the Gospel message for this auspicious occasion, and we know that he can really “bring it”, by the aid of the Holy Ghost!! The Men’s Ministry is directed by Bro. James Rhodes, who is doing his best! Congratulations to the Men, and
PASTOR C. JONES ST. REED BAPTIST CHURCH
specifically Bro. Randy Allison Sr, for putting together a wonderful STYLE AND DEBONAIR Fashion Show revue several weeks ago. You worked really hard, and you are greatly appreciated! What would we EVER do without our “BIG RANDY”? Every church should have one-thank God for you, my big brother!! Greater New Unity is a Forward Church, Serving a Forward God! We are still located at 9719 S. Avalon Blvd in the beautiful city of South Central Los Angeles, where the power lines of the city meet the power of God; where everybody is somebody and CHRIST is the center of all! We continue to hold up the sick, the shut in, bereaved, incarcerated, and thosed who just simply say “pray for me” to the Lord our God in prayer. We hold up President Obama and his family, and the men and women of our armed forces who have put themselves in harm’s way in the defense of our country, in prayer. God loves you, and we love you and there is NOTHING that you can do about it!! Courageously and lovingly serving as our Pastor is Rev. Randy Allison Jr, and reporting is yours truly, Sis. Arlene Andrews. Until next week, don’t forget to keep RAISING THE PRAISE!!
REV. E WINFORD BELL LAUNCHES The Silver Lining of Hope Crusade BEHIND EVERY BLACK CLOUD OF CRIME, THERE IS A SILVER LINING OF HOPE THROUGH PRAYER. II Chronicles 7:14
Rev. E. Winford Bell, Sr. Pastor of Mt. Olive Second Baptist Church, located in the heart of Watts, CA has launched the Silver Lining of Hope Crusade which focuses on men and women of all faiths to spiritually and intelligently bring awareness to violence and crime in the community. The wave of violence & crime continues to plague the lives of all people, especially children, youth, and young adults in Los Angeles and the surrounding communities. This Crusade was birth in March, 2009 after his son was a victim of a drive-by shooting in
the front of their home, shot 9 times experiencing a minor injury to his hand. Rev. Bell’s son was not affiliated with any gang/violent behavior, yet the Lord’s hand protected his life. Immediately, Rev. Bell as a Sr. Pastor of a church which is directly located in a poverty and high crime designated area in Los Angeles, hearken to the leading of God to begin this crusade which is founded on men and women of all faiths, coming out of their pulpits and churches, into the community and addressing this critical issue which is literally taking the lives of so many. To date, over 45 pastors and their churches have joined this crusade to address the violence and crime (head on), and to ultimately save the lives of children, youth, and their families. Since the birthing of this crusade, numerous crimes/deaths associated
with these churches, families and communities have been reported. The entire community is welcome to attend the following meetings which are located at the Inglewood Police Community Center @ 6:00pm, 2901 W. Manchester Avenue (7th Avenue and Manchester). The remaining meetings for 2009 are as follows: October 23, 2009, November 6, 2009, December 4, 2009, last meeting held on December 9, 2009 @ 7:00pm, Pilgrim Baptist Church, 950 E. 45th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90011. On November 14, 2009 from 10:00am-1:00pm the official Ribbon of Awareness Street Day will take place at 4 major intersections in South Los Angeles and Inglewood. For more information, you may call (213) 840-7175 or email: silverliningofhope@yahoo.com.

ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL
“Don’t Ignore the Signs” Daddy-God communicates daily with His children! He sends us encouraging words, answers to questions and signs that He is well pleased with us. Along our Christian walk, we wonder if we are ministering exactly where and doing what He wants us to do. We wonder if our work in His great Kingdom is “Spirit-led” or “SelfDriven”. Yes, we even wonder how effective our work is for we don’t want it to be in vain. Ministering is not position-related; but a mandate for all Christians. We see persons who are powerfully used in the Kingdom and say wow if only we could be as effective as they! But, we are just as powerful and effective! If we “Don’t Ignore the Signs” which are the witnesses which Daddy-God sends our way, they will truly encourage and affirm our hearts. “You blessed me”, “God spoke to me through you”, “I thank God for your ministry”, “Your word or song was right on time and just what I needed”, “We need your fellowship”. Instead of receiving those words, we reject them and tell persons to give the glory to God. Yes, all glory definitely goes to God and persons whom He uses should definitely direct the glory to Him!! But also,
Daddy-God knows that we are seeking to please and serve Him! Therefore He sends encouragement along our way. This is why He shares those times of word-blessings with us; for there are so many other times God uses us to minister and bless others that we don’t hear or know about. Therefore, we must learn to receive the signs of affirmation and appreciation which Daddy-God sends to encourage our hearts. We must learn to say praise the Lord during those times. Also in the same breath, we must celebrate with them how good and loving Daddy-God was to share with us His children; our blessing of being the one He used and them being the one who received the blessing. Celebrate with the Spirit of God as He celebrates us through the signs! Stop, look and listen to DaddyGod’s affirmations assuring us to continue doing what we are doing. Remember that whatever we do to enrich, encourage and bless other people’s lives is ministry. DaddyGod wants us to serve Him for the rest of our lives; so He gives us signs along the way to let us know we are on the right track. “Don’t Ignore the Signs” but praise DaddyGod every time He sends a sign of encouragement! Purpose to sow

Williams Williams. What a blessing it is to have someone care about you in this selfish age? Let’s just say it again, “every week, they go out and check on “Rose_ (as they affectionately call her) to see if she’s alright! Now it would be wrong not to recognize the “Pastor and Members of Mount Horeb” who regularly stay in contact with Mother Rosalie Williams. Whenever someone goes out to visit her, she brings great joy to everyone and let’s the entire staff know that this is “my church family visiting me.” Many of our members, (especially Deacon David and Deaconess Lorraine Cobb, Mother Elizabeth S. Ambrose, and others) go out to see her quite often. When they get back to Mount Horeb, we receive a “positive, uplifting report about Mother Williams”-kind of like Joshua and Caleb. Mother Williams constantly, consistently and prayerfully “thanks God for letting her live so long”. Just the other day she asked her Pastor-:am I really a 100 years old?” The response was “2009 minus 1909 equals 100.” then she smiles, almost laughingly, knowing that she has finally lived to be so marvelously blessed in the Lord. Well, Mother Williams did give her “life to Christ” back in Louisiana more than 90 years ago, and God must have found favor with her” because she has met the promise, live the promise, and it would appear that she just keeps on ticking like an “EverReady Battery” that never seems to run out of energy. On behalf of the Pastor (Dr. A.B. Simon), the Mothers Board President (Mother Ambrose,), and the people of “Mount Horeb” this is our prayer and blessing upon Mother Rosalie Williams: “The Lord bless thee, and Keep thee: The Lord make His face to shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee” and give thee peace (Numbers 6:24-26). Well, it looks like God has done just for our Mother Rosalie Williams. We love YOU-the Mount Horeb Missionary Baptist Church, 1130 West Manchester, Los Angeles,
