SIS. TONNETT DURR-YOUNG

Come on children let’s sing, come on children let’s shout,

come on children let’s sing about the goodness of the Lord. “Praise the Lord Everybody!” These are the very words often spoken by the prolific and anointed Sis Tonnett Durr-Young. Tonnett is on a mission to provide encouragement whenever possible as well as lift up the name of Jesus Christ through song. On Sunday October 13, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. an invitation is extended to ALL. Please come and help us celebrate a Great God. My family and I will offer up Praise and Worship to the

only GOD who is indeed worthy of our Praise. This musical extravaganza will be held at the First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1300 E. 57th Street, Los Angeles, Calif. 90001 Rev. Darnell Jones, Pastor & Rev. Darryl K. La Bat Sr., Host-Pastor. For more than 30 years our family has been celebrating God through music. It is our belief that a family who prays together, stays together. With God’s grace and mercy we have indeed been able to do that. Our Parents, The late Dr. Thomas Matthew

Sr. & Cleo Durr, laid a great foundation for us and it was built on our Christianity and Faith. My family and I have kept the tradition alive and we live it out through song and in unity as often as we can. The Theme for the concert is, “God Is Sunshine On A Cloudy Day” taken from Psalm 107:13; Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of their distress. ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL THANK YOU DADDY!! Daddy, You have been so good to us! Even though it is not proper English to say that You have been “Gooder than Good”; that’s what You stated and defined by Your actions in our lives. Yes, there are times when our prayers don’t manifest according to our time frame or according to our desires and we are quick to act like we don’t have a loving Heavenly Father! But Lord, for those times, please forgive us! Thank you Daddy that we don’t have to worry about anything; but that we can truly pray and pass our concerns on to You! Thank you Daddy that Your love for us is greater than what can be defined by the language we speak! Daddy, each day You display Your great love for us by allowing us

to experience Your favor and grace! Thank You Daddy that we don’t have to know everything there is to learn for You to love us! Thank you Daddy that You intended to make us the height, skin-tone, shape of nose, color of eyes and body structure that we are; which makes us unique from all others. Thank you Daddy-God for each blessing which You have orchestrated in our lives; each smile, kind word spoken to us, loving deeds done for us, each meal and each time we have laid down in peace for a restful night of sleep. Thank you Daddy even for each tear we have shed, for each trial and tribulation; for You have worked them out together for our good, growth, faith and maturity. Thank you Daddy

DR. TONYA LEWIS

for blessing others through the words we speak and the actions we take! Lord God, there is truly no one like You! What is so great is that You choose to “come down to our level”, where we are currently, and to love us into greater success and maturity according to Your Will! Lord, there are times when we choose not to

do what You desire; i.e., being kind one to another or being concerned enough to pray for each other. But yet, You bear long with us while loving us into obedience and righteousness. Thank You Daddy for taking the time to teach and encourage us to be willing to exchange our immature and sinful tendency for Your Glory and Grace! Thank you Daddy that You have given each of us gifts and talents; purpose and assignments. Please help us to know that each of us are essential in the Kingdom and that YES, YOU HAVE NEED OF EACH OF US! Lord God, forgive us when we doubt the uniqueness of who You created us to be and then compare ourselves with others, only to conclude with the wrong evaluation. Daddy, thank you for what we have accomplished

in our lives and thank you for what we shall accomplish! Daddy, although we have never seen You face to face; thank you that You have manifested time and time again that You are alive and involved in our lives! Hallelujah, bless Your Holy Name! Thank You Daddy! Thank you Daddy! Thank you Daddy!! We give You glory and honor! We bow our hearts before You Lord God and we submit our wills to Your Leadership! Lord, we desire to please You even more in our lives!! Lord, we desire to live in such a manner that You will smile when You look upon us! Thank you Daddy for the remaining chapters of our lives that will prove even more that it is best to serve You and that You do reward those who Continued On Page 14

Genesis 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. 16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. 17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? 18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken

in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? 13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. 21:1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. 5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him. 6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.

IN FOCUS Amelia and Derek never thought that when they said “I do” seven years ago, they would ever face a problem like this one. “If you go to full term, the baby could be stillborn,” the doctor said gravely. “But is there at least a chance of our daughter being born all right?” asked Derek. “Very small.” “What do we do, Derek?” Amelia pleaded with her husband. “We’ve got to pray about this,” Derek resolved. Amelia and Derek had always thought there wouldn’t be any problems once they started a family. They had waited because they wanted to make sure they were mature enough to be parents, but now it seemed their first child wasn’t going to survive. “I think we should go full term,” Amelia finally said after she and Derek had arrived home. “I know the situation looks bleak, but we’ve prayed about having kids and we believed God was going to bless us to be parents.” Amelia and Derek put their faith in God’s promise, and not only was their daughter born healthy, but they are now in the process of adopting a son. Sometimes a situation may look just as impossible as it did for Abraham and Sarah. However, today’s lesson teaches that no matter the circumstances, God keeps His promises. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Childlessness. The culture of Abraham and Sarah was a patriarchal one in which inheritance was handed down from father to son. Therefore, it was of the utmost importance for a woman to have children because “childlessness threatened the very perpetuation of the political and economic structure of [their] society” (Redford, The Pentateuch, 74). If a wife was barren, she was of little worth and considered cursed. There were a few options for childless couples—they could adopt a servant or have children by surrogacy. If a wife made her servant a surrogate for her husband, the child would actually belong to the wife. Although this was the custom, surrogacy was not without its troubles, as Scripture illustrates in the rancor among Sarah, her maid Hagar, and Abraham. Bedouin tent. The Bedouins are a nomadic people who have been desert dwellers for thousands of years. They live in tents, allowing them to break camp whenever they need to move. Abraham lived the nomadic lifestyle and would have lived in a tent like the Bedouins. The tents in Bible times were larger than the tents of

today. Abraham’s tent would have had at least two sections. The front section was where the men lived and received guests. When it was warm, this section could be opened. The section for women was separated from the men by a curtain made of goat hair. Some tents had a third section for servants or cattle. BACKGROUND In His initial message, God told Abraham, who was still called Abram, to leave his home (Genesis 12:1). He promised to make Abram a great nation, make his name great, and make him a blessing to the entire world (vv. 2-3). Once in Canaan, God spoke to Abram a second time, saying He would give the land to Abram’s descendants (12:7). In the third communication, God was more specific about what part of Canaan He would give to Abram’s offspring, who would be “like the dust of the earth” (13:16, NIV). Genesis 15 encompasses God’s fourth communication with Abram. 1) God said Abram’s heir would be from his own flesh, and his descendants would be as numerous as the stars (vv. 4-5). 2) God reiterated that Canaan would belong to Abram (v. 7) through his descendants, who would endure four hundred years of enslavement (vv. 12-17) before taking possession. 3) God was even more specific about the land Abram’s offspring would possess (vv. 18-21). Today’s lesson text begins in the midst of God’s fifth communication with Abram. Twenty-four years had passed since God made His initial promise to Abram, and God was explicit about the details of the promise. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham to reflect that he would be the father of many nations. There would be kings in his lineage, God would always be their God, and Canaan would be their land forever (17:4-8). As a sign of this covenant, Abraham and all the males in his house were circumcised and, thereafter, each male would be circumcised at eight days old (vv. 9-14). IN DEPTH 1. Sarah’s Part in the Promise (Genesis 17:15-17) Each time God spoke with Abraham in the past, He never mentioned Sarai. We know that she was barren (16:1), which would have made God’s covenant impossible. Abraham was perplexed by the situation. “O Sovereign LORD, what good are all your

By the end of the lesson, we will: SUMMARIZE God’s promise to Sarah; APPRECIATE life as a gift of God; and THANK God for His faithfulness to the faith family across generations.

Keep In Mind:

“For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him” (Genesis 21:2).

Focal verses:

KJV

blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir” (from Genesis 15:23, NLT). However, God reassured His servant that his heir would be of his flesh. This would have been devastating news for Sarai. Because of her barrenness, Sarai would have believed surrogacy was her only recourse. Imagine the hurt and shame she already carried being exacerbated by her incapability to provide the child of the promise. She decided to help God’s promise by suggesting Abraham sleep with her maid, Hagar. From their union, Ishmael was born (16:15). However, God never needs our help to accomplish His promises; we need only to obey and wait in faith. God had a plan and the power to bring it to pass. The child of the promise would come through Sarai, who would now be called Sarah, for she would be the “mother of many nations” (17:16, NLT). Sarai and Sarah both mean “princess,” but the latter has the added distinction of noblewoman, the “wife of a king of noble birth” (Vine). The name change signifies that Sarah’s life had changed directions. God was not only moving her from barrenness but also into nobility. Kings would be among her descendants. Abraham laughed to himself at the notion that he and Sarah, both advanced in age, could actually conceive a child. Instead of Abraham’s laughter denoting disbelief as some believe, perhaps the sentiment is amazement because “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises” (Romans 4:20-21, NLT). 2. The Promise Confirmed (18:9-15) After finding out Sarah was included in the promise, Abraham was still in a waiting position—the perfect opportunity for faith to grow. In the meantime, three heavenly guests—God and two angels (Genesis 19:1)—pay him a visit and confirm the promise. After eating and resting, the guests inquired after Sarah, who, as was the custom, had gone back to her part of the tent after serving the men. She overheard the Lord say, “I will return to you about this time next year, and your wife, Sarah, will have a son!” (from 18:10, NLT). Judging from her reaction, Abraham probably had not told her she was included in God’s promise. Sarah, of course, thought this claim to be impossible and laughable. After all, she and Abraham were extremely advanced in age, she was beyond her childbearing years, and even if she had been a younger woman, she was still barren. Sarah was not aware that God had heard what she believed to have been a quiet comment to herself. God appeared to be speaking only to Abraham when He asked him why Sarah laughed. He was, however, also addressing Sarah. To be told that all the years of hurt and shame would soon be

over would have been unfathomable were it not for God. “Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return about this time next year, and Sarah will have a son” (18:14, NLT). In the Complete Jewish Bible, the word for Lord here is Adonai, which means “Master,” someone with total authority. As Adonai, God has complete possession of His servant and is solely responsible for the “provision and protection” (Stone, Names of God) of His servant, and whatever He says will happen. Therefore, whenever God makes a promise, it, in essence, is already done. A servant of God need only trust, obey, and wait faithfully. 3. The Promise Kept (21:1-7) God certainly kept His promise because Sarah became pregnant and gave birth exactly at the time He had ordained (21:2). It was now twenty-five years since God had called Abraham to leave his home. As God commanded, Abraham named their son Isaac (17:19) and circumcised the boy at eight days old as a sign of the covenant. Isaac’s name means “he laughs,” and Sarah did laugh again, but this time it was evidence of her joy, not disbelief. “And Sarah declared, ‘God has brought me laughter. All who hear about this will laugh with me. Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse a baby? Yet I have given Abraham a son in his old age!’” (21:6-7, NLT). One can gather that the pain of all the years of her barrenness was nothing compared to the depth of Sarah’s gratitude.

“When mercies have been long deferred, they are the more welcome when they come” (Henry). And we can rejoice with her because if God would accomplish the impossible for her, He would accomplish the same for all who put their faith in Him. Deferred promises are never denied promises. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. What did God promise Sarah (Genesis 17:16)? 2. What was God’s response to Sarah’s laughter (18:13-14)? DISCUSS THE MEANING If God already knew that Sarah was part of His promise to Abraham, why do you think He waited to tell him? What is the purpose of delayed promises? LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY Many of us face hardships daily, yet we continue to press on because God has promised us that He will never forsake us and that He is working for our good. But what if the promises of God seem to take too long? The story of Abraham and Sarah encourages us to remain hopeful because no matter how bleak the situation, God will keep His word. After all, He has already kept His ultimate promise because through Abraham and Sarah, He provided the way to salvation, Jesus Christ. MAKE IT HAPPEN We focus so much on waiting for a promise from God that we forget all He has already

done. The next week, take time each morning to prayerfully write down at least three promises God has already kept for you. At the end of the week, set aside time to thank God for His faithfulness. Hang this list of promises where you can see it every day to help you remember to be thankful. FOLLOW THE SPIRIT What God wants me to do: REMEMBER YOUR THOUGHTS Special insights I have learned: MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Genesis 17:15-17, 18:915, 21:1-7 15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. 16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. According to Jewish tradition, Sarah was one of the most beautiful women in the world, but to be barren in a patriarchal society was to be considered almost worthless. However, God elevated Sarah to be the mother of the Jewish people. When we read the ancestry lists in Scripture, heirs are assumed to come through the father; the mother is seldom mentioned. But here we see that the promised child came not just through Abraham, but also through Sarah. Both Sarai and Sarah have the same meaning—princess— but this renaming emphasizes that nations and kings will come from the descendants of the marriage of Sarah and Abra-

1-888-290-7277 ham. Sarai is the older form of the word, and this renaming is meant to emphasize to Abraham that Sarah was his God-given wife and as such, the promised nation would come through her as well as through him. 17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? The Hebrew for “laughed” is tsachaq (tsaw-KHAK). Laughter was a theme throughout the promised birth of Isaac. Was God playing a joke on Abraham? It had been thirteen years since Ishmael was born. Is a man who is a hundred years old even capable of having sex? And not only was Sarah 90 years old, but she had demonstrated her inability to bear children when she was younger. The Hebrew word for “laughed” does not tell us what was going on in Abraham’s mind. Was he laughing at the incongruity of a child coming from a union of himself with Sarah? Or was his laugh scornful, demonstrating his lack of belief in God’s ability to bring this about? We see in Abraham’s situation that God is going to bring about the fulfillment of His promise only when it is obviously impossible from a human standpoint. This is often the way God works in our lives. It is only when we have come to the end of our own resources that He demonstrates His ability to do all that He has promised. 18:9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent. 10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life;

NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. Now we make a jump in the biblical story. After the visit of the Lord to Abraham in chapter 17, Abraham immediately circumcised Ishmael and all the other males in his household. Chapter 18 begins with another visit from the Lord, shortly after the first. This time God communicated through three beings that appeared as men who were traveling through the region. Abraham graciously entertained these strangers. After Sarah quickly made a meal according to Abraham’s instructions, she kept in the background, as was the custom. But in this home full of rivalry and jealousy between wife and concubine, motherhood and barrenness, Sarah hid behind the curtain to listen in on the conversation of the men. However, the men visiting with Abraham were no ordinary men. One was probably the Lord Himself (an earthly appearance of God before the incarnation of our Savior, called a “theophany”), and the other two were definitely angels. We are told in Hebrews 13:2 that we should be sure to practice hospitality to strangers just as Abraham did because, although he did not know it, he was entertaining angels. After Abraham indicated that Sarah was inside the tent, the holy Spokesman

made a promise that He would return “according to the time of life” (v. 14, Heb. attah chiyel, at-TAW khee-ALE). This was understood to mean in the spring of the year, when life is returning. At this moment, God was appearing to Abraham and Sarah in the form of a man, but when He returned, it was to be hinneh (hin-NAY, “behold” or “lo”) in the form of the fulfillment of His promise—a son. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. We are reminded again that Abraham and Sarah were both physically beyond the years of childbearing. In fact, Sarah had ceased to be “after the manner of women,” a euphemism for menopause. 12 Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? Sarah was feeling dried up with age, and rightly assumed that Abraham was also. The Hebrew word for pleasure is eden (AY-den), which comes from the word for the Garden of Eden, the garden of pleasure, and here implies sexual pleasure. Evidently, it had been years since Abraham and Sarah had enjoyed sex together. And the thought of having a baby was also delightful to her who had longed for a child for so many years. 13 And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? 14 Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. Sarah was laughing within herself at the thought of having sex and having a baby at her age. Evidently, Abraham had never shared with her the previous message from God (17:15-16). He must have continued to have some doubts. So the Lord asked two rhetorical questions, not expecting any answers: “Wherefore did Sarah laugh?” and “Is any thing too hard for the LORD?” Of course, nothing is too hard for the Lord. The Hebrew for “hard” is pele (PEH-leh) and means much more than difficult; it means that nothing is too miraculous, too marvelous, or too wonderful for God to do. So, in verse 14, God repeated that He would fulfill the promise He made in verse 10, word for word. 15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. Sarah was caught in the act. God revealed that He knew exactly what she was thinking. And He also knew that her denial was because she was afraid—God understood how she felt, even though He made sure she knew that He could see her heart. 21:1 And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2 For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. Chapter 19 tells the parenthetical narrative of Sodom and Gomorrah. Then, chapter 20 recounts another disappointing story regarding Abraham. In chapter 12, Abraham passed Sarai as his sister, and Pharaoh took her into

his harem. Now Abraham repeated this same awful behavior—passing Sarah as his sister to Abimelech, king of Gerar. Perhaps God was protecting Abraham and Sarah from conceiving babies with these foreign kings through her barrenness. Not only did God cause infertility in the households of these foreign kings, but it appears that the ability of the kings to engage in sex was also interrupted. Finally, when it was God’s time, Sarah conceived a son with Abraham. In the first verse are four phrases that emphasize the work of God in fulfilling His promises to Abraham and Sarah. “The LORD visited” and “the LORD did” speak of God’s actions in fulfilling the promises; “as he had said” and “as he had spoken” refer to His promises that were spoken to Abraham and Sarah. Verse 2 gives us the specifics as to how God fulfilled His promise—Sarah became pregnant and gave birth to a son at just the time that God had promised. DANGEROUSLY HIGHER “You must not have any other god but me. – Exodus 20:3 (NLT)

byANDREA Andrea ANDREWS Andrews “I believe the reason why God does not give us everything we hope for in a mate is because He knows there would be no need for us to seek Him.” – Anonymous Adam no doubt loved the only other person who shared Eden with him. She was not only pleasing to his sight but also to his flesh.

It can be considered they spent endless hours in deep conversation about creation and all within it. The conditions by which they existed were ideal with no distractions and plenty of time to enjoy one another’s company. They each seemingly had everything the other desired – essentially because there was nothing or no one else to measure the other against. So often in Christian marriages and relationships we run the risk of abandoning God – placing ALL of our trust in our significant other. Perhaps we don’t even realize we do it, but it happens more often than not. Suddenly, we become

about the business of stepping into the roles of protector/provider or helpmate, that suddenly the God we spent so much time crying out to to fill the void of loneliness is placed on a back burner. Or, during the courtship phases we spend countless hours on the phone talking well into the night that we miss our quiet time with The Lord or even worse…we stop communing with Him in His Word. Perhaps this is why Paul declared to the church, “It is best not to marry…” A story was recently shared about a set of high school sweethearts who had been married for over twenty years. They were

both in positions of leadership in the church and served joyfully. Then suddenly one day the husband turned away from God and became apostate. Obviously, the enemy had worked at the husband as “the head” – attacking his soul in a treacherous way. But, what followed is what is most tragic. Because the wife had placed ALL of her trust in her husband instead of in her GOD, she was devastated by her husband’s declaration to denounce Christ. Hence, the devil getting two (souls) for the price of one. Reflecting on this account, Adam was not much different. He and The Most High

God had discussed the terms of his & Eve’s tenancy in The Garden. However, somehow between a heart to heart with God and the appearance of the serpent, Adam placed Eve on such a high pedestal that he’d suddenly forgotten his Creator. The rest is recorded… One’s heart never bleeds for long (if at all) when we realize that people are fallible BUT God is NOT… KNOWING our identity in Christ serves as a spiritual buffer. Yet, it takes great maturity to take people for who they are and excuse their behavior when it falls out of alignment with the will of God. Peace, Love & Blessings

7 Keys To An Effective Ministry (Part 2) A Leadership Lifter by, Rick Warren

DR. JOYCE HARRELL

(Continued from 9/29) Number 6, it’s supported by God’s People. Here he’s specifically talking about financial support. But I think it’s talking about financial support in every way. He says, “For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a contribution. Indeed, they owe it to the Jews to share with them their material bless-

ings.” It’s time to give something back. “To whom much is given, much is required.” We give back of our time, back of our money, back of our energy and our service. That makes me think of a story of one time a pastor was preaching down in the south. He was getting all wired up and says, “This church has got to get up and walk!” And all the people said, “Amen, pastor! It’s got to walk!” Then he said, “Folks, our church has got to get up and run. We’ve got to run with the Gospel.” And everybody said, “Amen, the church has got to get up and run! Run with the Gospel.” Then he said, “I tell you, brothers, the church has got to get up and fly! It’s got

to fly with the good news all over.” They said, “Yes, it’s got to fly! Let it fly.” Then he said, “It takes money to fly.” And they said, “Let it walk, pastor. Let it walk!” It takes money to have a ministry. It takes our money and it takes other people’s money. You don’t have to be afraid of that. When you teach people how to give you’re doing one of the greatest blessings you can do for them. You’re teaching them to be like God because God is a giver. When I’m not being generous, I’m just hurting myself. 7. A ministry that’s effective is backed by prayer. He says, “Join me in my struggle [how?] by praying to God for me. Pray that I may be rescued from the unbelievers in Judea and that my service in

Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints there.” He says we join in each other’s ministry when we pray for each other’s ministry. You, as a part of the body of Christ, need to pray not just for the area of ministry you’re in but you need to pray for all the other ministries. Together, we’re a symphony. Everybody plays their part. The tunes are the same but the sounds are different. An oboe doesn’t sound like a flute and a flute doesn’t sound like a trumpet and a trumpet doesn’t sound like a violin. But we’re all reading from the same score. This is our score. The Bible. It tells us that we’re to go out into the world and we’re to attract, win, and develop members into mature models

of Christ-like character and conduct and help them discover a ministry in the church and a life mission in the world at each stage and segment of their lives. That’s our plan. We’re all working toward it in various areas. Some people are on the front end, the attraction end. Some people are at the welcoming stage. Some people are at the incorporating stage, bringing them into Bible studies. Some people are at the training stage. Some people are at the sending out stage. Some people are at the going out stage. But all together, it forms a symphony and makes us the body of Christ. He says we need to pray for each other. Dr. Joyce’s contact information is: Joyce-harrell@sbcglobal.net

HOW DARE YOU, GOD? (PART XI) “And Pharaoh’s servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: Knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?” - Exodus 10:7 (KJV)

LADY DR. PHELENCIA A. WHITE

The plague was DARKNESS for those who DARED to OPPOSE the Almighty God. God gave HIS ENEMIES that which they WERE MOST FAMILIAR (Prov. 4:19; 1 John

2:7-11; 2 Cor. 6:14-18; 1 John 1:5-10) as WICKEDNESS and DARKNESS belong together. God’s children were surrounded by light where they dwelled. (John 3:16-21; Matt. 5:14-16; John 8:12) The LORD asks, Pharaoh, are you NOW READY to GIVE ME EVERYTHING that belongs to me? His response, No! Instead he tells Moses, “Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.” (vs. 24) Wom-

en, children, flocks, herds... just like the anointing on the lives of God’s chosen, some people just WON’T LEAVE IT ALONE! They KEEP FIGHTING...until God STRIKES BACK! Then CRY for “Mercy, mercy, mercy!” as those WHO SHOW NO MERCY! (James 2:8-13) A recent email message included Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper...” I asked the sender, “Are you a “Christian?” The sender said, “Kinda”. Did the person believe that this

SCRIPTURE really applied to them? The worst thing you can do is PLAY WORD GAMES with the GOD! (Heb. 4:12-13) Were they SERIOUS? Pharaoh ENJOYED playing WORD GAMES, too. God WAS NOT PLAYING! He was MESSING WITH the WRONG GOD! (Mal. 3:1315) There are some things God WANTS THE DEVIL and HIS IMPS to TRY simply because HE IS AMUSED by their CALAMITY (Prov. 1:20-33; Ps. 37) already knowing the end-

ing of all things from beginning. (Rev. 1:8) God LOVES to enroll QUALIFIED CANDIDATES into His REVERENCE EDUCATION COURSE. (Ps. 111; Heb. 12:23-29) Tuition is VERY EXPENSIVE and you WILL PAY FOR IT with your life! It is a MANDATORY COURSE for EXCEPTIONAL INDIVIDUALS hand selected by GOD to attend. (Col. 2:8; Rom. 1:18-32; 2 Cor. 4) Some Continued On Page 15 HOW DARE YOU ...

SUNDAY SCHOOL ....

it echoes the words of the promise in 17:21 and 18:14. This reminds us of the old adage from our ancestors, “God may not come when you want Him to, but He always comes on time.” 3 And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. 4 And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him. Here we see the theme of laughter again as Abraham named the child as God commanded (17:19). The Hebrew pronunciation of the name Isaac is Yitschaq (yitsKHAWK), meaning laughter. In this case, it was not the laughter of scorn, nervousness, or mockery, but the laughter of pure joy. And in another example of obedience, Abraham personally circumcised Isaac on the eighth day of his life (v. 12). 5 And Abraham was an hundred years old, when

his son Isaac was born unto him. 6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me. 7 And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age. Sarah was again laughing, but this time we see a very happy mother who had waited many years to finally have a child. She had endured so much, but finally she took her place as the mother of the child of promise. No longer were people laughing at her barrenness; now they were joining her in the laughter of joy. Jewish tradition interprets the seventh verse to mean that all the mothers of infants passed their children to Sarah, and she nursed every one to proudly prove her maternal accomplishment and ability. God had given Sarah

The PRICE was already PAID IN FULL (1 Cor. 6:19-20; 1 Cor. 7:23) but once YOU NEGLECT the FREE GIFT of God (Heb. 2) OUT OF POCKET expenses will be incurred for there REMAINS no other RECOMPENSE for EVIL except a FEARFUL looking toward of GOD’S

JUDGMENT! (Rom. 1:1832) The Course Objective is to help CREATURES LEARN to RESPECT God as their CREATOR. To give GOD what HE wants WHEN HE WANTS it without EXCEPTION or MODIFICATION of HIS REQUEST! Pharaoh was CHALLENGED to learn this so God literally SHUT HIM DOWN into DARKNESS! Darkness SO THICK that the Egyptians could not see and were STUCK IN PLACE for DAYS! (Matt. 15:7-14;

John 12:37-42; 2 Peter 2; John 9:39-41) Can you believe Pharaoh STILL had the AUDACITY to THROW A THREAT to Moses saying, “Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die.” (vs. 28) REALLY? Water to blood, frogs, lice, flies, diseases, boils, hail, thunder, lightening, locusts and Pharaoh is still THROWING THREATS?! PHARAOH! You, your coun-

selors, sorcerers, wise men and fools NEED TO GO SIT DOWN and FIGURE OUT A STRATEGIC PLAN that makes it at least LOOK LIKE giving GOD what BELONGS to Him is YOUR IDEA! I’m 110% with God and even Moses as He says... Yes, Pharaoh, “Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again NO MORE.” (vs. 29) You don’t have to GET IGNORANT with the DEVIL and HIS IMPS...When they tell THE TRUTH…

Agree, shake the dust from your feet (Matt. 10:5-40), walk away and WATCH GOD WORK! ...Until Next Week – Part XII… Stay Connected! Stay Blessed! Lady Dr. Phelencia A.
