NEW HOPE B.C. OF LOS ANGELES CELEBRATES 107TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY In 1906, a legacy was birthed in the form of New Hope Baptist Church. For over a century, the church is still standing and proud of their awesome and rich history. New Hope Baptist Church of Los Angeles was organized on a Sunday night in January 1906 at True Reformer’s Hall, located at 12th and Central Avenue. The Church met at various locations in the early years. The first location was 1623 Paloma Avenue in Los Angeles. To date, New Hope has had five Pastors. Rev. Chester A. Anderson, the founding Pastor, led the New Hope Church family from 1906 until 1915 when he became critically ill. He called for Rev. Alonzo Lively to come and Pastor New Hope. Rev. Lively, the second Pastor of New Hope, played an important role in the organization of the church. Rev. Lively served from 1915 to 1945. New Hope then called Rev. Dr. Bernard O. Byrd of Munger Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas as the third Pastor. Dr. Byrd instituted tithing and offerings to support the Church. Under his leadership, three missionaries were sent to Africa and the Church started a radio broadcasting ministry. Membership growth dictated relocation. The New Hope congregation walked into the new sanctuary at 52nd street and Central Avenue on October 21, 1954. Black architect Paul R. Williams designed the new spacious sanctuary of two level seating, including a lighted baptismal pool and a sectional choir stand. Pastor Byrd’s leadership also provided cultural and educational means to a diverse congregation. His tenure ended in 1978. New Hope then called Rev. James Stewart McKnight as the fourth Pastor. Rev. ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL A HEART TO HEART TALK!! Isaiah 51:1---”Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance-all who seek the LORD! 2-Yes, think about Abraham, your ancestor, and Sarah, who gave birth to your nation. Abraham was only one man when I called him. But when I blessed him, he became a great nation.” 3-The LORD will comfort Israel again and have pity on her ruins. Her desert will blossom like Eden, her barren wilderness like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found there. Songs of thanksgiving will fill the air. 5a- My mercy and justice are coming soon. My strong arm will bring justice….7- “Listen to me, you who know right from wrong, you who cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid…Daddy-God desires
to have a “Heart to Heart” talk with us, His children, to share some Nuggets of Encouragement”. His great love propels Him to encourage our hearts. V1- Attention, those who are hoping and praying for deliverance or change in any area of their lives! Those who are consistent in loving and seeking Him will focus on His promises, which are greater than ANY battle we are fighting! V2- When we are in the midst of seemingly impossible situations; remember that with God all things are possible! We are to reflect on what Daddy-God has already done in our lives. Reflect on the many times we have been at the junction of “Impossibility” and DaddyGod “turned water into wine” for us. Reflect on the manifes-
DR. TONYA LEWIS
tation of a 25 year old promise in Abraham and Sarah’s lives, who at the age of 100 and 90 years old became biological parents of Isaac. The key to being successful, fruitful and overjoyed beyond measure is to live so that Daddy-God will “BLESS” our lives. That He will anoint us to do and experience the impossible; the opened
doors which no man can close and closed doors that no man can open! Daddy knows that as long as we are on this side of Heaven, He will have to do it again and again for us. If He did it before, He will do it again!!! V3-The Lord God sees and is concerned about whatever attempts to “Steal Our Joy”! He is concerned about WHATEVER is barren (unfruitful and unproductive) in our lives! Therefore, we should focus on praising Daddy-God for His “Promise of Again”, rather than crying and whining about “Once Again, Poor Me”. As any loving and attentive earthly parent desires that their children rejoice and are happy, Daddy-God also desires that for His children. Therefore, He is very active in our lives so that we will expe-
rience joy and gladness! He knows that a happy heart radiates joy and gladness. As a result, He knows that His mature children will burst forth with songs of thanksgiving and praise which will motivate others to inquire of the reason why. By blessing and overflowing our joy and gladness, He equips us to easily spread the Good News” message! V5- It reminds us to hold on and to wait on the Lord! He says His mercy and justice are coming soon. His strong arm, love and faithfulness guarantee it! We can’t allow impatience to take over our minds and hearts; because then, we will attempt to create “Resolutions” on our own as Sarah did. Such actions Continued On Page 14

THE BLESSING PASSES TO JACOB Bible Background • GENESIS 28 Printed Text • GENESIS 28:1, 10-22 Devotional Reading • JOHN 4:1-15
AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: INTERPRET the meaning of Jacob’s vision; CHERISH God’s presence in our personal experiences; and INVITE God’s presence into our everyday activities.
Keep In Mind:
“And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of” (Genesis 28:15).
Focal verses:
Genesis 28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him. 28:10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God KJV
IN FOCUS “Honey maybe you should reconsider leaving,” said Layla’s mother as she watched her daughter pack. “Ma, I’ve been praying for a long time and I believe this is the path God wants me to take.” When her mother took ill ten years ago, Layla put off her mission trip and moved back into her mother’s house to take care of her. However, even after her mother had received a clean bill of health from the doctor, Layla stayed and continued to put her dream of helping orphans on hold. But now she really felt the Lord nudging her to go. “What if something happens? I’ll be all alone,” her mother cried. “Oh Ma, don’t cry,” Layla said as she hugged her mother. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I do know God is with me. If we have submitted our lives to Him, He promised to keep us. Guess who taught me that when she was sick?” “I did.” Layla’s mother could only laugh. “See, God was with you through your illness and He continues to be with you. We’re never alone. And I, for one, am glad about that.” For whatever reason, many of us may feel like we are alone. But just as God assured Jacob of His presence and promises, He promises to always be with us. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Jacob. Jacob was the younger of the twin sons of Rebekah and Isaac, who was the son of Abraham and Sarah. Jacob and his brother, Esau, were always at odds with each other, even fighting in the womb (25:22). In fact, Jacob’s name means “he takes by the heel or he supplants” because when he was born, he was grasping his brother’s heel as if he wanted to take Esau’s place as firstborn. Jacob had a trickster nature and was skillful at making schemes, as was illustrated when he later used Esau’s weakness to trick him into selling his birthright. Jacob “was a plain man, dwelling in tents” (v. 27), meaning he was quiet (a trait that no doubt afforded him the opportunity to better observe people’s actions and nature so he could better deceive them) and was more at ease in the home, “a man of the domestic domain, a man of culture.” His character changed, however, after a divine encounter with an angel of God in which he wrestled with the “man” and was able to last until dawn (32:24-32). Jacob was then given the name Israel, which means “he struggles with God.” He no longer was arrogant (32:9-10) and desired to make peace with Esau (33:1-20).
OCTOBER 27, 2013 -Bible Study Guide 9 of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed; 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.
BACKGROUND When an aging Isaac was ready to bless Esau, he told his son to go hunt wild game and make a stew for him before he would bless him (27:3-4). Rebekah devised a plan for Jacob, a willing participant, to steal Esau’s blessing. She instructed Jacob to put on his brother’s clothes and goat’s skin to mimic Esau’s hairiness while she made the stew herself. Isaac, who was going blind, thought it was Esau who brought the stew, but it was Jacob. Isaac then blessed his younger son, saying, “Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee” (27:28-29). When Esau heard what Jacob had done, he plotted to kill his brother. To save both sons (Esau would have been put to death for murdering Jacob), Rebekah told Jacob to run away to her brother, Laban, then planted in Isaac’s mind that it would be greatly bothersome to her if Jacob were to marry a local Canaanite woman (v. 46) as Esau had already done (26:34-35). IN DEPTH 1. A Solitary Place (Genesis 28:1, 10-11) On the surface, Isaac was ordering Jacob to leave so that he could find a wife among his mother’s people. The patriarch had sent his son away with the hope of the same blessing God had given Abraham (28:4). This was supposed to be a great journey, but in reality, it was probably a dreadful one because Jacob was running for his life. In addition to being afraid that his brother might come after him at any minute, Jacob was probably extremely lonely because he was away from home, traveling toward the unknown—the land of Haran. After a day’s journey, Jacob settled down for the night in a solitary place with stones for his pillow. However, looks can be deceiving. “Place can also mean shrine. … The setting at night… corresponds to the later divine encounter in 32:22-33 (Jacob wrestling with an angel of God). … Jacob laying his head on one of the stones of the place becomes clearer in retrospect—the stone signifies a sacred space” (HarperCollins Study Bible). In essence, what looked like
a lonely, unassuming place was the perfect setting for something divine to happen. Sometimes it is necessary to be in what appears to be a lonely time to be available for an encounter with God. In His earthly ministry, whenever Jesus went off by Himself, it was to communicate with the Father (Mark 1:35; Matthew 14:23, 26:36-46). 2. Jacob’s Dream of God’s Promise (vv. 12-15) Jacob fell asleep and dreamed of a ladder upon which he saw the angels of God traveling between heaven and earth. This was a place where there was open communication with the divine. “The angels are active spirits… they rest not, day nor night, from service, according to the posts assigned them. They ascend, to give account of what they have done, and to receive orders; and then descend, to execute the orders they have received” (Henry). The ladder might also represent the “mediation of Christ” (Henry). “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6). God, at the top of the ladder, identified Himself as the Lord God of Abraham and Isaac, One who was in relationship with Jacob’s grandfather and father. Jacob would soon see that God was also seeking a relationship with him. Isaac had already sent Jacob away, claiming the blessing of Abraham for his son (28:3-5), but God confirmed that indeed what was promised to Abraham was now being passed to Jacob. The words of the blessing paralleled the words He had spoken to Abraham: “Thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south” (from 28:14, see also 13:14-17) and “in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed” (from 28:14, see also 12:3). At the end of this encounter, God left Jacob with the reassurance that even in the lowest, most vulnerable time in his life, He was his protection, would never leave him, and would complete His promise. 3. Jacob’s Response to the Promise (vv. 16-22) When Jacob woke up, he made an assessment of what he had dreamed. He was in awe and afraid because, as he declared, he was on sacred ground. In response, Jacob rose early and built a shrine to God, anointed it with oil, and named the place Bethel, the “house of God.” He thought that perhaps later, when he would return home, he could build a proper altar. He also anointed the place so that all who would come would know that they were in a place of worship, not just a place of almond trees (“Luz” means almond tree). As was the custom of the time, Jacob made a vow. In verse 20, Jacob said, “If God will be with me” (emphasis added), which gives the impression that Jacob was placing a condition on God before making his vow. However, “if” can also mean “given,” as in “given the fact that God will be with me.” In light of this, Jacob was affirming his belief that God would do as He had said and was interpreting what that promise meant to him in that moment. Although God’s promise entailed the grander things of assurance
for his descendants and blessings for all through his seed, Jacob was concerned with his immediate needs in his time of distress: food, clothes, and seeing his father again. Our visions may only extend as far as our finite minds can imagine, but God still does “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (from Ephesians 3:20). Given that God would do those things, Jacob resolved that “the LORD will certainly be my God” (Genesis 28:21, NLT) and vowed to give God a tenth of everything he would gain. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. What are the details to God’s promise to Jacob (Genesis 28:13-15)? 2. How did Jacob respond to the dream and God’s promise (vv. 16-22)? DISCUSS THE MEANING God informed Jacob that He would always be with him. In what ways has God shown He is with us? How can we invite God into all areas of our lives? LESSONS IN OUR SOCIETY As we attend to our daily lives, we often feel alone in our life’s journeys. When life’s distresses—like illness, loss of a job, a broken heart, or death of a loved one—occur, we may begin to wonder if anyone is there. Is anyone concerned about our troubles? Is there any place to feel safe? The answer to every question is yes, God is always there. Just as He assured Jacob He was keeping him, we can be assured He is keep-

ing us wherever we may go. MAKE IT HAPPEN God has promised to always be with us and to keep us, but sometimes we do not invite Him into every part of our lives. This week, begin to identify those areas in your life where you need to give God full disclosure. As you do this, think of at least three actions you can do to invite God into each area. Then, do them. FOLLOW THE SPIRIT What God wants me to do: REMEMBER YOUR THOUGHTS Special insights I have learned: MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Genesis 28:1, 10-22 From v. 1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him. Perhaps now Isaac resigned himself to what his wife, Rebekah, told him was the Lord’s will all along—that the older would serve the younger and that Jacob, not Esau, would receive the birthright. So Isaac sent Jacob on with blessing and instructions. 10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran. 11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. mother’s counsel to evade the wrath of Esau, Jacob set out on his journey toward Haran. As he traveled on, he came to a place where he was obliged to stop all night because the sun had set. Jacob had probably intended to reach Luz, but he opted to stop and rest for the night. The words “he lighted upon a certain place” indicate the apparently accidental, yet divinely appointed, choice of this place for his night quarters, for the place had already been consecrated by one of Abraham’s altars (12:8, 13:4). Jacob took some of the stones and made them his pillow or head-place (Heb. mraashah, MER-ah-ash-aw). 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. Jacob fell asleep and had a dream in which he saw a ladder (Heb. cullam, sool-LAWM) resting upon the earth, with the top reaching to heaven. Upon the ladder, he saw angels of God going up and down, and Jehovah Himself standing above it. What a much-needed, refreshing, and inspiring experience for Jacob! God showed up for him at the right time. Jacob was tired, lonely, and forlorn when he arrived at Bethel. He had no company to travel with, no place but the ground for a bed, and no pillow but a stone for his head, but he experienced God in a personal and unusual way. The doors at home, to his family, and to Beersheba were shut, but the window

1-888-290-7277 of heaven was wide open to him. God literally threw down a ladder of hope to a hopeless Jacob who was caught up with a problem of his own making. For a short while, God made accessible His presence, promise, and providence to Jacob. Although the etymology of the Hebrew word for “ladder” is not entirely certain, its symbolism is without doubt. It was a visible symbol of the real and uninterrupted fellowship between God in heaven and His people upon earth. Although a brief episode, it was nonetheless significant as it represents God’s deliberate disclosure of His active involvement in the world and His astute intervention into people’s lives. Nothing could be a more expressive emblem of the incarnation and its effects—Jesus Christ is the great ladder between heaven and earth, and between God and humanity (John 1:51). 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed. The vision was not just about angels. The Lord “stood” (Heb. natsab, naw-TSAB) above the ladder. It was a personal revelation of Jehovah to Jacob. It manifested the presence of his covenant God, pointed out his mode of life wandering from place to place, and promised protection in all his ways. In proclaiming Himself to Jacob as the God of his fathers, “I am the LORD God of Abraham,” God not only confirmed to him all the promises and the blessing of Abraham for which Isaac had prayed (vv. 3-4), but also assured him of God’s protection on his dangerous jour-
NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET ney and a safe return to his home (v. 14). 14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. 15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of. God confirmed to Jacob his destiny as the heir of God’s promise to his forefathers. God reiterated His promise to Abraham and Isaac, relayed to Jacob the prosperity of his descendants, and reassured the fearful patriarch of His presence in the dangerous journey. The Lord will guide the poor, afflicted wanderer in seeking rest and bread. Jacob seems to have left home with a heavy heart and invoked divine protection; God showed him the communication that exists between heaven and earth, the guard of angels, and His ever-watchful eye looking down on man, whether waking or asleep. What then had Jacob to fear? No evil could happen to him while God was his guardian and strong defense. In this dream, the Lord completely dispelled Jacob’s fears. But as the fulfillment of this promise to Jacob was still
far off, God added the firm assurance, “I will not leave thee, until I have done [carried out] that which I have spoken to thee of.” 16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not. “The LORD is in this place; and I knew it not”—that is, God had made this place His particular residence. Jacob had gone to sleep, fearful, alone, and helpless. He had no idea that he was being specially cared for and watched over by Abraham’s God. He thought he was exiled from the presence of the Lord, but good men often find Him in times and places where they do not expect. Surely his heavenly Father watches over him. Jacob acknowledged that this place had been consecrated to God. 17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven. Jacob seems to wake up in two stages. As he awoke, a feeling of awe came upon him. Consequently, when he arose, he solemnly dedicated one of the stones and vowed to bring his tithes to the God who dwelt in this place (vv. 18-22). “House of God” (Heb. bet elohim; bet e-lo-YIM) anticipates the name Jacob was about to give to the place, “Bethel” (v. 19). “Gate of heaven” occurs only here in the Old Testament, but the concept that heaven, the divine abode, has one or more entrances is a familiar idea in ancient thought. The appearance of the ladder, the Lord standing at its top,
and the movement of the angels up and down must have left deep, solemn, and even awe-inspiring impressions on the mind of Jacob. It was an impression so strong that he declared, “How dreadful is this place!” As Jacob continued on his journey, he was to carry with him a holy awe of the gracious presence of God. 18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it. Jacob turned the pillow into a pillar. In the morning, Jacob erected the stone as a monument of the extraordinary vision which he had experienced in that place. The word “stone” here (Heb. eben, eh-VEN) could mean a heap of stones that is piled up for a memorial, hence the word monument. He poured oil on the top to consecrate it as a memorial of the mercy that had been shown him there, not as an idol or an object of divine worship (Exodus 30:26 ff.). 19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. He then gave the place the name Bethel, “house of God” (Heb. bethel, BET-el), whereas the town had been called Luz before. It appears that Jacob gave the name not to the place where the pillar was set up but to the town in the neighborhood in which he had received the divine revelation. He renewed it on his return from Mesopotamia (35:15). This is confirmed by 48:3, where Jacob, in the same manner as in 35:6-7, spoke of Luz as the place of this revelation. 20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me

LAPD’S Newton Division Host “Food for the Veterans” Food Drive In the month of August 2013, LAPD’S Newton Division Community Police Station was responsible for collecting over 600 pounds of canned and non-perishable food for the Federal Food Drive on behalf of the United States Department of Personnel located in Washington D.C. Newton Division was responsible for the largest amount of donations in all of LAPD’s Central Bureau combined. Several Newton Police Officers purchased food items to support the ‘Food for the Veterans” Food drive. This effort was supported by the Commanding Officer of LAPD’s Newton Area; Captain Edward Prokop is a United States Marine Veteran from Operation Desert Storm. Newton Officers have seen a continuous trend of property crimes related to vehicle theft
and burglary from motor vehicle crimes due to citizens failing to lock and secure their vehicle. Also, the LAPD wants to remind everyone to hide your belongings in your car to prevent thieves from using the opportunity to steal personal items left in plain sight. LAPD wants to spread its slogan to the community ‘Lock It, Hide It, Keep It”. On a final note, Newton Division is located at 3400 South Central Avenue Los Angeles: officers are inviting all to participate in their monthly clergy meetings every second Thursday of the month at 10:00 A.M. inside Newton Area’s Red Davis Community Room. Please contact the Newton’s Community Relations Office at 323-846-3937 for further details. ADVERTISE YOUR CHURCH MINISTRY HERE SINGLE SPACE

in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, 21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: 22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee. The significance of this vow within the story of Jacob’s life is underscored by its mention again at key points (31:13, 35:1-3, 7). This was no ordinary vow but a grand and solemn expression of Jacob’s complete acceptance of the Lord to be his God. It was merely the echo and the thankful acknowledgment of the divine assurance, “I am with thee,” which had been given immediately before. God had already made an unconditional promise to Jacob to watch over him and bring him back to this land (v. 15). As such, his vow was not designed to manipulate God or twist His arm. an altar, a tithe (28:22), and a commitment. He did not ask for what God was already giving him—His presence, care, and guidance, including his safe return to the land (v. 15). One thing is certainly clear from this episode: Jacob was gradually coming to the end of himself. Instead of relying on his abilities, he was to stop scheming and rely on God to supply his needs and protect him. The if in Jacob’s vow did not imply doubt in God’s promise but was the natural form of his taking God at His word: “If God is going to do so much for me, then I will do something for Him.” In other words, if God, who had appeared to him, proved Himself to be God by fulfilling His promise, then Jacob would acknowledge and worship Him by making the stone into a house of God and by tithing all his possessions. Finally, the circumstances in which Jacob made his vow are very striking. Typically in the Old Testament, vows were made in situations of distress. Jacob’s vow was no exception. He was in a distressed state, running away from home— something which could be

considered equivalent to being under threat of death. But now he had received an unexpected revelation announcing his return to his country and guaranteeing him safety on the journey. What could be more natural than for Jacob to make a vow and pledge himself to worship God? “This stone… shall be God’s house,” a monument of the presence of God among His people. It is recorded in 35:7 that Jacob built an altar and probably also dedicated the

LOS ANGELES, CA – October 1, 2013 - Trinity Baptist Church will host a Workshop on “ObamaCare Comes To You “ on Saturday, November 2, 2013, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, in the J.L. Caston Fellowship Center, at the church, located at 2040 West Jefferson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90018. This workshop is a joint effort between Senator Holly Mitchell and Trinity Baptist Church to provide critical and essential information to the community on the Affordable Healthcare Act, which opened for enrollment on October 1, 2013. On-site enrollment also is offered. The Affordable Healthcare Act, also called “ObamaCare”, was enacted by the US Congress so millions of Americans will be able to choose affordable, high-quality health insurance coverage. The program will take effect nationwide January 2014 and enrollment started on October 1, 2013. In California, an insurance exchange is offered through Covered California, which is a new, easy-to-use marketplace where you and your family may get financial assistance to make coverage more affordable and where you will be able to compare and choose health coverage that best fits your needs and budget. By law, your coverage can’t be dropped or denied even if you have a pre-existing medical condition or get sick. Every individual must be enrolled in a plan by January 2014 or be subject to a fine. It is important that each individual understands essential aspects of the new law and the options offered through Covered California before enrolling. The Trinity workshop will provide that information in English and Spanish and offer opportunity for individuals to enroll on site. “Each uninsured individual in our community can and should now find out what healthcare is available to you and your family members under the new law, whether you are entitled to free or assisted coverage, how to choose an option which fits your needs, and what to do to enroll in an affordable health plan immediately,” said Senator Holly J. Mitchell. “ObamaCare offers an unprecedented opportunity for Californians to obtain affordable health coverage that must include prevention, medical treatment, prescriptions and rehabilitation for you and your children up to age 26. In this workshop your questions will be answered by certified experts and, if eligible, you can enroll on site.” PLEASE CALL THE CHURCH OFFICE AT (323)735-0044 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. A TOTALLY DRUNKEN STATE
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8
byANDREA Andrea ANDREWS Andrews As The Body of Christ, how long will we tolerate demonic oppression in our tabernacles, homes and communities? Within the past few months, our nation’s headlines have
carried story after story of senseless killings at the hands of people who were/are mentally ill...the most recent being a high profile NFL football player’s son being beaten to death by a man with a history of such behavior. Prior to that, a woman was murdered by law enforcement following her erratic behavior at The White House; a woman with a history of mental health challenges. Only weeks ago in Dallas, Texas, a man walked into a local fast food restaurant with the intent to kill innocent parties...
These incidents are just those that made headline news. When a humble father came to meet Christ among His disciples following a failed attempt to heal his epileptic son, The Messiah was perturbed. He’d given them authority to heal and deliver, yet He proclaimed their faith was fledgling [referencing the condition of the boy (epilepsy) as a demon]. The command for us is to ALWAYS be “sober-minded”. This would mean that conditions which compromise our ability to serve The Kingdom of Heaven
(Bipolar Disorder, depression, paranoid schizophrenia, manic depression, autism, ADD, ADHD, etc.), are afflictions NOT of The Lord and NOT of His Will. Demonic oppression and spiritual warfare are taboo subjects in many churches. Yet, Paul made it clear that we are always in the midst of battle between darkness and the majesty of God; an overwhelming tug of war for souls. Although the devil’s time is short, he is SERIOUS about his business and will do whatever it takes to kill, steal, and destroy. And,
while he can not possess (nor send his concubines to possess) those who are born again, he DOES send his demons to distract, thwart and derail Christians from their purpose by plaguing their minds, bodies, etc. Christ paid it ALL. Intercession, obedience, prayer and fasting must begin NOW! Let’s not leave the laboring for others to do. NOTE: STOP fearing the devil and demons! Christ has given us authority over him. When we fear him (the enemy)...he wins! Peace, Love & Blessings.Www.theprocesschristiancounseling.com

COMMITED LEADERS (Maxwell
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
“Commitment: It comes before authority and responsibility. Few things present more danger than an uncommitted
leader. While followers may often remain uncommitted, they usually wield limited influence. Leaders, however, impact everyone who follows. When they remain uncommitted, they not only fail their organizations and God, but they model failure for others. Commitment comes before anything else in a leader’s life. Leaders who want to complete a task must possess at least four characteristics: A compelling purpose: They make a great commitment to a great
cause. A clear perspective: They don’t let fear cloud their view of the future. A continual prayer: They pray about everything and gain God’s favor. A courageous persistence: They move ahead despite the odds. Commitment moves past the minds and emotions and goes straight to the will. The ancient Chinese said that the will of a man is like a cart pulled by two horses; the mind and the emotions. You must get both horses moving in the same direction to move the cart. Commit-
ment results when your mind and emotions move forward, no matter the cost. Leaders cannot expect followers to make commitments deeper than the ones they make. To develop commitment we must understand the following truths: Commitment starts in the heart. Commitment precedes achievement. The only real measure of commitment is action. Commitment opens the door for accomplishments. Commitment can be measured. Leaders must

evaluate their calendars and checkbooks to measure their commitment. Commitment enables a leader to make decisions. Leaders must determine what’s worth dying for, and then make that the basis for decisions. Commitment flourishes with public accountability. Go public with your commitments, then you’ll have incentive to follow through.” Dr. Joyce’s contact information is: Joyce-harrell@sbcglobal.net
HOW DARE YOU, GOD? (PART XIII) “And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt:” – Exodus 11:4 People have coined the phrase “THE MIDNIGHT HOUR” to be that time when all personal strength has been exerted in seemingly hopeless situations. (I Cor. 1:19-31; I Cor. 2:11; I Cor. 3:18-23) In previous exhibitions throughout this LADY DR. PHELENCIA A. WHITE series, God’s strength WITH POWER was placed upon EVERY AREA of MAN’S CREA A WORD FROM GOD is TURE COMFORTS. But, even not a personal word from the at this God didn’t HIT THE writer. It is SIMPLY THE CORE of MAN’S HEART, so WORD OF GOD FROM it REMAINED HARDENED. GOD DIRECTLY! (Is. 55:10(Matt. 6:19-21; Luke 12:31-34; 12) No one knows the hour James 5:1-6) But once God when the LORD shall appear. did, it MOST CERTAINLY (I Thess. 5:1-10; II Peter 3:1would OPEN THE DOOR 10) But there is something to a NEW BEGINNING for about MIDNIGHT that God God’s people. Unlike before, holds dear. (Acts 16:25-26) this time God says, “I WILL
GO OUT! I AM GOING TO PERSONALLY VISIT MAN. (Gen. 11:1-9) I, THE LORD YOUR GOD BUILD UP AND TEAR DOWN. (Ps. 75:4-8; Prov. 3:33-35; Heb. 3:4) MY PEOPLE HAVE HONORED ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEARTS ARE FAR FROM ME!” (Matt. 15:7-9; Mark 7:6-13; Rom. 3:10-18) Warning after warning, unheeded make punishments inevitable BY THE HAND OF GOD! (Ps. 14:1-3) Then ONE DAY the HEART BECOMES SO HARD that God says, “I’M GOING TO BREAK IT! I, THE LORD YOUR GOD HAVE DECREED THIS TO BE PAY DAY!” (Isaiah 47) GOD demands to be FIRST
IN EVERYTHING! (Ex. 20:3; Deut. 5:7) Only HIS NAME is to be EXALTED in the EARTH. (Ps. 24; Rev. 14:6-8) GOD ACCEPTS SECOND TO NOTHING. He has given to us, Jesus who is the IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD, the FIRSTBORN of EVERY CREATURE. (Phil. 2:5-11; Col. 1:12-20) Sadly, we have come to a PLACE IN TIME where we NOW WORSHIP THE CREATURE more than the CREATOR. (Rom. 1:2032) GOD WANTS HIS GLORY. SO HE IS COMING TO TAKE IT BACK! God says, “ONCE I PUT THIS POWER IN THE MIDST OF MY ENEMIES, Pharaoh and ALL of his SERVANTS are going to
COME DOWN and BOW DOWN TO ME! (Ex. 11:8) FOR NO MAN CAN DO WHAT I WILL DO! “Even with this VERBAL ADMONITION BEFORE DESTRUCTION the LORD knew that “PHARAOH IS NOT GOING TO OBEY UNTIL I DO EXACTLY WHAT I SAY!” Pharaoh didn’t care about the WELL BEING OF HIS OWN PEOPLE, so you KNOW HE DIDN’T CARE IF GOD’S PEOPLE LIVED OR DIED! SO HEAR THIS WORD BY THE SPIRIT and NOT THE FLESH… “THUS SAITH THE LORD, ABOUT MIDNIGHT Continued On Page 15 HOW DARE YOU ...
