PASTOR & FIRST LADY REV. & MRS. CHEZ LISTER
Blessings and Honor, and Glory, they all belong to Him!!! Thank you Jesus, for blessing us. The Friendlywill family has set this time aside to recognize and honor our Pastor, Rev. Chez J. Lister Sr, for all that he does for the people of God. This year is even more special than years passed because we are celebrating Pastor Lister’s 40th Birthday (earlier this year) and now we celebrate his 10th year as Our Pastor. Our theme for this anniversary is “Our Pastor; Worthy Of Double Honour” I Timothy 5:17.
We recognize that our Pastor is called by God, to do a work that has been ordered by God himself. Called to minister to the sick in spirit, weak at heart, feeble minded and lost. Called to encourage believers to hold on and called to be a living, visible example as he leads others to Christ. Pastor Lister is also chosen by God to lead the people of Friendlywill. He was chosen by God, from among many, for this “little church on 68th Street”. Chosen to be a missionary, to preach the gospel, each and every time he steps into that Holy Place, no matter if it is at home or away.

REV. J.W. BROWN PASTOR
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith: who for the joy that was set before him endure the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrew 12:2 In March 1944, Rev. L. M. Kelley, a native from the state of Georgia migrated to Watts, CA prior to WWII. He lived on 93rd and Maie Ave. Because there were no Baptist Churches in walking distance in Watts, The Holy Spirit inspired to organize one. He envision a church where everyone would be welcomed, therefore it was named Welcome Missionary Baptist Church. Sixty five years later we are still strong in the Lord. GMSMBC #2’s BROTHERHOOD MINISTRY IS ON THE MOVE!!!! COME CHECK IT OUT AND GET ON BOARD Giving all praises to our Lord who gives us the desire to do His will, to our Pastor, Reverend Kalvin E. Cressel, Sr. and to the Sinai Family, for the love and support given to our Brothers Walking by Faith Ministries, for these young men are truly about the Father’s business. They saw a need and heeded the call. As we know, many ideas are brought before the Members for approval, and even though some may have merit, many times they are not approved resulting in discouragement and often defeat of a person’s self esteem. However, at Gtr. Mt. Sinai M.B.C. No. 2, in the City of Compton, we have been blessed with Under

that we both had never been to. I knew that I had nothing else to lose since I had almost lost everything any way. I kid you not, once service started, I got this notion that everything that I had been stressing over (car, money, job, life, etc.) was taken care of. Like as if somebody or something knew what I was going through, devised a plan, and had put it into action. Now, this didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that it was the Almighty GOD speaking to me to where only I can hear him. He reassured me that his grace fell upon me, and that my troubles are over. I’m not ashamed to admit, I cried. But this cry was totally different from the tears that I was
used to shedding. These were tears of joy and relief that were rolling down my face. All this time I was looking for an answer to my problems, and the answer was right in my face the whole time. A lot has changed since then. I’m not broke any more, I have two jobs (three if you count this one), and all the sorrow and pain that I used to hold in has released my spirit from its death grip. Now, it might not happen for you the same way that it has for me, but isn’t it worth a try to give HIM a chance to help heal the wounds that life has inflicted on you? The choice is yours.

What He Can Do For You If you are where I was a couple of months ago, then you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. It seems like nothing can go right for you. When you look at other people and what they have, you become overwhelmed by self pity. You are broke, down and out, you can’t get a job, friends don’t talk to you any more, and life just all out sucks. Trust me, I feel your pain. I have felt that pain for the longest. It is not and easy thing to just shake off and keep going. I have tried and failed a number of times. One day I just decided to give up and go with the flow. Whatever happened just happened until someone asked me to attend a Bible Study at a church
Shepherds who believed in our younger generations and as such, often supported ideas of merit. For instance, our Female Rites of Passage Program, which lasted a year, was a divine blessing for the young ladies who participated. As a result, Deacon Maurice Holmes became desirous of developing a Christian Youth Mentoring Program for Males ages 5 to 18 based upon biblical principles. The goal is to feed into their spiritual nature that their lives have purpose, how to live a godly lifestyle and to realize that they don’t have to lose their way through the experimentation with dangerous alternatives, for they are loved and their good deeds are greatly appreciated. A FAITHFUL PEOPLE Bible Background • 2 PETER 1:3-15 Printed Text • 2 PETER 1:3-15 Devotional Reading • LUKE 19:12-26 AIM for Change By the end of the lesson, we will: IDENTIFY virtues that help develop faith, FEEL a desire to grow in faith and godly living, and PRACTICE putting "the fruit of the Spirit"— goodness, self-control, love, etc.—into action. Keep in Mind: "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue" (2 Peter 1:3). Focal verses: KJV 2 Peter 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

IN FOCUS "I just don't understand you," Isaac complained to his wife. "I told you that I would take care of the utility bill later this week!" They were arguing, something that seemed to occur more and more frequently these days. It seemed to Isaac that Audrey nit-picked about everything. Some of the bills were behind, but he had assured her that he would make sure they got paid. Why couldn't she just leave it alone? The bills had been delinquent before, but hadn't he always gotten them paid? Audrey constantly nagged him about their poor credit rating. Although she hadn't come right out and said it, Isaac felt certain that Audrey blamed him for their not being able to purchase a new car or to move out of the apartment and buy a house after eight years. Why didn't she understand that he wanted reliable transportation and a home for her and their two children just as much as she did? He hadn't had the time to sit down and make a plan to achieve this. Her constant reminders that a bill collector had called or another late notice had come in the mail only seemed to make things worse. If she were a better wife, he thought, she would trust him and wait for things to get better. In today's lesson, we will see that faith is not equivalent to blind optimism. To live godly lives, we must not succumb to laziness; instead, we must take full advantage of the godly resources available to each of us as believers. God has already given us what we need. Our challenge will be to grow in our Christian lives and share what we have received with others. The People, Places, and Times Persecution of the Christians. After the death of Jesus, His disciples became objects of hatred and persecution. Jesus' prediction that men would "kill and crucify" His disciples came to fruition (Matthew 23:34). Also after Pentecost, many believers were threatened, arrested, and beaten (Acts 4:1-3, 21; 5:17-18). The mob's murder of Stephen and the subsequent wave of violent activity toward Christians caused most believers to flee from Jerusalem. While this persecution led to the scattering of the Jerusalem congregation (8:1), this scattering resulted in the rapid expansion of the church within other nations. One of the primary persecutors of the Christians was a young man named "Saul of Tarsus." Prior to surrendering his life to Christ, Saul "wreaked havoc" on the church, causing men and women to be thrown in prison (8:3). Following his conversion on the Damascus Road, Saul, whose name was later changed to "Paul," became a target of persecution himself (13:50; 2 Corinthians 6:3-5; 11:23-25; Galatians 5:11). There were other victims of first-century Christian persecution, including the Apostle James, the brother of John. James was put to death on the orders of Herod Agrippa I. The Roman emperor Nero (A.D. 54-68) is most noted for his virulent persecution of the Christians. Historians record that Nero blamed Christians for setting a great fire, which destroyed a quarter of Rome. This event marked a wave of political rather than religious persecutions. It is widely believed that it was Nero who ordered that Paul be put to death. Background By the time Peter writes this second epistle, his colaborer in Christ, Paul, had probably been martyred, and the church was undergoing fierce persecution. Peter understood that these persecuted believers, to whom he was writing, longed for both knowledge and peace, so he mentions it in his opening salutation to them. He knows also that it is only through their intimate relationship with and personal knowledge of God and of His Son, Jesus Christ, that they might experience the grace and peace they yearned for. IN DEPTH 1. Power for Life (2 Peter 1:3) Peter assures the saints that God has already provided everything they need to live a godly and abundant life. Access to that abundant life, however, is based on a personal relationship or "knowledge" of Jesus Christ. The Greek word translated as "godliness" is "eusebeia," which means "good worship." Peter is not discussing public worship, rather, living a life that reflects the very character of God. If our lives are anything less than abundant, we would do well to ask ourselves if our lives are being controlled by the Spirit of God or being ruled by our sinful flesh. God has given us what we need. 2. Promises to Empower (v. 4) The Bible is saturated with promises of God. Throughout the Old and New Testaments, there are constant affirmations of the promises made and kept by God. At the dedication of the temple, King Solomon reminded the people that the period of political peace they were enjoying was a result of God keeping His promise. Solomon declared, "Blessed be the Lord, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised" (1 Kings 8:56). When Peter speaks of promises in this chapter, he uses the Greek word epaggelmata, which means
a promise made voluntarily, rather than the result of a request. Here we see the connection between God's promises and God's grace. Frequently, God's promises are a result of His grace (unmerited favor) and loving-kindness, not because we deserve the blessing. Peter explains that the "exceeding great and precious promises" made to His people are a direct result of the natural goodness of God. Just as it is natural for us to breathe, it is natural for God to bless those He loves. God also desires that His greatest creation "partake" or participate in His divine nature and separate from the corrupting forces of the flesh. No doubt Peter's three-year walk with Jesus had made him a personal witness to some of these promises. Peter had learned to appreciate the faithfulness of God through His Word and through personal experience. Present-day Christians can be routinely assured of the promises of God through regular and prayerful study of His Word. 3. Spiritual Growth (vv. 5-9) Our union in Christ and our participation in His divinity provide us with the resources we need to live godly lives. However, Peter is careful to note that as Christians, we must give "all diligence" or do our part, too (v. 5). We cannot be slack or complacent about our faith walk. We must persevere, and make every effort to perfect our relationship with God. Our spiritual development is an ongoing process, during which there is constant growing, shaping, and refining. The idea of planting flower seeds in a garden and then failing to tend it by watering and other care is ludicrous! Left unattended, the seeds will dry up and die; or the seeds will sprout, but the tiny plants will be overtaken by weeds and strangled. Equally ludicrous is the idea that our faith, left unattended, will grow. Like the neglected flower seeds, the old habits of our former sinful nature will rise like weeds and quickly take hold in our lives. Our faith is like the seed. Faith is what brings us to Christ in the first place. Now that we have become part of Him, we want our faith to blossom and grow so that we can reflect the very character traits of Jesus. Just as plant seeds need watering, our faith needs nurturing in the Christlike characteristics that Peter lists: virtue (goodness), knowledge (understanding), temperance (self-control), patience (endurance), godliness (goodness), brotherly kindness (love toward humankind), and charity (godly love). Peter's emphasis on knowledge is especially important because a great portion of this epistle addresses the false teaching that was undermining the church during this period. Peter understood that the only protection the believers had against the false doctrines cropping up was "knowledge," or a firm grasp of the truths of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus (vv. 3, 5-6). As we grow spiritually, so too should our knowledge of spiritual truths. The more we know about Jesus, the harder we will strive to understand how to become more like Him. Not only is knowledge critical to Christian maturity and to the development of a godly lifestyle, it is, as Paul claims, our "sword of the Spirit," an integral weapon in spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:17). Equally important is Peter's emphasis on "love" or "charity" (2 Peter 1:7). The Greek word used here is agape or godly love. This is the highest form of love and the one expressed by God Himself when He "so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" (John 3:16). Love is essential to the growth, maintenance, and work of the Christian community. 4. Confidence in Our Calling (vv. 10-11) Peter now directs his attention to exhorting believers to "give diligence to make your calling and election sure" (v. 10). Peter is urging the believers to have confidence in their salvation. This confidence is based on living lives that exhibit Christlike characteristics. It should not be surprising to us that Christians who are not growing in faith will typically lack confidence in their election—their choice of beliefs. It is not enough that we confess Christ. We must grow in Christ in order to have assurance of our salvation. Peter's reference to "an entrance…ministered abundantly" (v. 11) may be a description of the triumphal heavenly welcome that awaits believers who hold the course. Similarly, his reference to the "everlasting kingdom" reminds us that confidence in our calling encourages us to "press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). Christians who lack confidence in their calling cannot enjoy the promise of the "prize" of a glorious and eternal life in the presence of God. 5. Remember (vv. 12-15) Peter now turns his attention from teaching and focuses on himself. All that he has said he also has learned for himself. It is not enough that believers learn; we must be willing to share, as Peter does. Peter stresses that he "will not be negligent" in presenting these learned truths to other believers (v. 12). The apostle is probably about 60 years old when he writes this epistle. He may be recalling the painful time in his life when he was negligent in speaking on behalf of Christ and denied even knowing Jesus. But Peter is not the spiritually immature apostle we first encountered in the gospels. His priorities have shifted from self to Christ. In this epistle, it is an experienced and spiritually mature man who now emphasizes his solemn duty to witness and who seeks to "stir... up" the believers (v. 13).
It is clear that Peter is thinking that his death may be imminent when he writes, "shortly I must put off this my tabernacle" (v. 14). Some scholars believe Peter may have been imprisoned during the time this letter was written. Although he speaks of his death, he is more concerned that the believers be put "in remembrance" or be reminded of what he has taught them, after he is dead (vv. 12-13, 15). Because we know that the young disciple, his son John Mark, was with Peter (see 1 Peter 5:13), we may assume that Peter taught his son and intended to have John Mark record these teachings. Mark's record is what we now know as the third gospel or the gospel of Mark. This particular theory is likely since Mark's gospel includes facts about Peter that are not mentioned in any of the other gospels. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT 2 Peter 1:3-15 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: The word "divine" (Gk. theios, THI-os) means "godlike." Theios denotes an attribute of God, not the character of God. We must be taught by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, and learn to do things His way. When we are born into the family of God by faith in Christ, we are born complete. God gives us everything we will ever need for "life and godliness." Nothing has to be added or taken away. Just as a baby has a definite genetic structure that determines how he or she will grow, so the believer is structured to experience glory and virtue. One day we will be like the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29; 1 John 3:2). We have been "called... unto his eternal glory" (1 Peter 5:10), and we shall share that glory when Jesus Christ returns and takes His people to heaven. We have been saved so that we might "shew forth the praises [virtues] of him who hath called [us] out of darkness into his marvellous light" (1 Peter 2:9). We cannot wait until we get to heaven to become like Jesus Christ! In our character and conduct, we should reveal His beauty and grace today. The divine power of God that is prepared to give us all things is the Holy Spirit, the same power that raised Jesus from the grave (Romans 8:11; 1 Peter 3:18). God has already freely "given unto us all things." We do not obtain these things on our own; by having faith in God, we will receive all things He has for us. We must acknowledge that He is the one who has called us to peace, grace, virtue, and glory. Before we knew God, He knew us and imparted grace unto us, along with plenty of mercy. The Greek word here for "knowledge" is epignosis (ep-IG-no-sis), which implies "recognition." Because we recognize Him as God, He is able to provide for us. On the other hand, if we do not recognize Him, with glory and praise, He has no obligations to us. 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. The purpose of God's promises is to enable us to become "partakers of his divine nature." God is at work in us to transform us so we can truly live like those who bear the divine image. God has given us His Word which enables us to develop new life and godliness. Our Father has made great promises that lead us to a great life. Because He is a great God, He can and will keep them all. The Word of God is full of many promises for a range of situations. There are promises for eternal life, forgiveness, healing, joy, peace, and prosperity. God's greatest promise, however, was the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus, in turn, promised that God would give the Holy Spirit to us (John 14:26). 5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. Because we are now partakers of God's divine character, we must mature spiritually. To do this, we must add to our faith. The Greek word epicorhgrew (ep-eekhor-AYG-roo) is translated as "add" and means "to supply generously." In other words, we develop one quality as we exercise another quality. These qualities grow out of our spiritual, vital relationship with Jesus Christ. Peter listed seven qualities of a godly life: virtue (Gk. arête, ar-ET-ay), which means "holy courage, strength"; knowledge (Gk. gnosis, GNO-sis), which means "to have discernment or to perceive"; temperance (Gk. egkrateia, eng-KRAT-i-ah), which means "self–control"; patience (Gk. hupomone, hoop-om-onAY), which means "to wait, abide, endure" or "suffer"; godliness (Gk. eusebeia, yoo-SEB-i-ah), which means "reverence" or "piety"; brotherly kindness (Gk. philadelphia, fil-a-del-FEE-ah), which means "love of people"; and charity (Gk. agape, ag-AH-pay), which means "godly love." It is impossible for human nature to manufacture these seven qualities of Christian character; the Spirit of God must produce them. Because we have a divine nature, we can grow spiritually and develop these qualities. God wants us to be "conformed to the image of his Son" (Romans 8:29). 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. The results of adding the seven qualities mentioned earlier are that they strengthen, encourage, and improve our lives and the lives of those around us. Where these qualities are present, there will be an abundance of good works (2 Corinthians 9:8). To be "abounding in good works" means that we do not just sit around, idle. If these qualities are to exist within us, we must learn to cultivate them so that they produce fruitful results in our lives. There is much work to do in God's kingdom. The more we become like Jesus Christ, the more the Holy Spirit can use us in witness and service. The believer who is not growing is idle—"barren [and] unfruitful" (2 Peter 1:8). As Christians, we are commanded to exhort, edify, and comfort one another, continuously building each other up in God's holy faith (1 Thessalonians 5:11; Hebrews 3:13). 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. The phrase "cannot see afar off" denotes that a person is nearsighted and can only see those things that are close to them. Spiritually, a believer who is nearsighted can only see things they can touch. They have no vision for the future, can only see today, and are without hope for tomorrow. In addition, oftentimes we forget that Jesus died to cleanse us of our sins. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we have been purged and forgiven. When we forget what God has
done for us, when our viewpoint lacks expansive knowledge of Jesus Christ, we will not be excited to witness to others about Him. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall; Peter admonishes us to be diligent or to "make every effort" (NIV). While it is true that God must work in us before we can do His will (Philippians 2:12-23), it is also true that we must be willing to work for God, and we must cooperate with Him. Instead of following those who are spiritually blind and suffering from forgetfulness, with diligence we are to take our invitation from God and accept the benefits of salvation. Being diligent also means "being obedient." Living diligently and obediently deepens our awareness of the divine power within us, which gives us all things needed for life and makes our "calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10). If we, as believers, can apply the Word of God, and live according to the will of God, then we will not fail in Christian living. God's grace has enabled us to keep the faith of our election steadfast in Christ. We must walk in righteousness and in good works; consequently, we will not fall back into sin. Because we are growing, we can look forward to an abundant life here and an entrance into heaven. 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. When we live as God wants us to, He promises us an abundant life and entrance into His kingdom. We will have riches of knowledge and holiness beyond our thoughts. Entrance into the kingdom is a gift from God through Christ Jesus, but it corresponds with diligence. 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Pastors, ministers, and teachers alike are to teach God's precepts. Here Peter was saying that it was his responsibility to always remind the people of God's goodness toward them. He realized that although they knew the precepts of God, people's tendency to forget may cause them to take things for granted. By reminding them of God's divine grace, mercy, and goodness, Peter was reminding them to never forget the basis for their faith. The Christian who consistently reads the Bible and knows what he or she believes and why will rarely be seduced by false teachers and their false doctrines. As we become established in the truth, we will not be shaken or moved by the problems we encounter in this world. We can stand on the truth—the Word of God! 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. Peter realized that his death was at hand. God had revealed to Peter the kind of death he would face (see John 21:18-19). In the time he had left, Peter realized that he must stimulate the knowledge of the people of God. Three times in this passage, he asked them to always remember the things he taught them (2 Peter 1:12-13, 15). Peter indeed left behind something that would never die—the written Word of God. The epistles of 1 and 2 Peter have been ministering to the saints for centuries. People die, but the Word of God lives on! Search the Scriptures 1. Discuss some of the promises God has made to us that can help us win the spiritual battle against the corruption of the world. 2. Discuss the evidence that points to Christian ineffectiveness and unproductiveness. What are some of the causes? Can you suggest some solutions? 3. Discuss the godly characteristics and attributes you see present in your workplace. What effect do these qualities have on others? Lesson in Our Society Our spiritual growth in Christ is a constant work in progress. While God perfects us, it is His desire that we work with Him in developing spiritually. Yes, God has provided us with everything that we need, and we should use what He has given us to bring glory to Him as well as help one another. We can only escape the corruption of this world and resist yielding to the flesh and falling back into our old sinful patterns by applying our spiritual power daily. As we go about our routines—conducting business, carrying out parental obligations, enjoying free time, even just running errands—"remembrance" is critical. Make It Happen Reread 2 Peter 1:1-7. Identify which of these godly characteristics is currently active in your life and which traits you need "to make every effort to add to your faith" (v. 5, NIV).

Conflict Management Case Study Part 4 of 4 reach out, we should also. We must present to those in conflict a reminder of what God has done for us through Jesus the Christ. They must be reminded that we are joint heirs with Christ, and He expects us to forgive just as He has forgiven. As leaders being used in the ministry of reconciliation, we must make sure that every thing we do is carefully prayed about and thought out. We must be sensitive to the feelings of those that come to us; we must be courteous, we must earnestly seek to understand and we must be careful not to come off as being too hard or critical about what has been done. Allow the persons involved in the conflict to come up with realistic solutions. It is better if they come to agreement on their

As peacemakers we must be guided by our relationship with Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to be the ultimate source and guide in our decision-making process. In Ministry, there is the real possibility of becoming anxious. We could become anxious to relocate (when required), anxious to grow our membership, anxious for things to move faster, anxious for revenue acceleration or simply anxious for anxiousness sake. The source of anxiousness varies. It is often attributed to being in a position that compromises our ability to control the a relevant and real situation. Anxiousness is the highest branch on a tree called anxiety. The tree of anxiety bears the fruit of nervousness, worry, unease, apprehension, angst, edginess and tension. All of these fruits (and many others) are often found in a basket of stress. I’ve seen those baskets on the shelves of life. They come pre-packaged

Food For Thought
Repentance plays a major component in the reconciliation and peacemaking process. Without repentance the reconciliation cannot take place because forgiveness will be withheld. Our Father desires for us to be peacemakers. He wants us to remember how Christ was the ultimate peacemaker, reconciling us back to our Father, and now He expects us to administer the ministry of reconciliation to others. Serving others as a peacemaker, means putting others first and caring about their spiritual wellbeing. Christ came as the ultimate Servant, we should follow His example and live a life purposely serving others. Just as Christ used the Gospel, the good news of the kingdom to

Jenkins, Sr. Pastor Jenkins has the ability to bring a text to it fullness which leaves us renewed and refreshed. Come and hear the word of the Lord from our Pastor and the melodious music from our Men’s Day Chorus. We are located at 1004 West 120th Street (& Vermont) in Los Angeles. Brother Wesley Odum, 2009 Men’s Day Chairman, Deacon Willie Kennedy, Deacon Board Chairman, Reverend Charles Long,
Prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus and His Lordship; we were not mindful of serving, obeying or loving Him. Prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus, it was all about what we wanted to say, do and go. Prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus, He pursued us and manifested His love, commitment, grace, mercy and compassion toward us. Prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus, He even came from Heaven to earth to be mistreated, abused and to die a horrible death on the cross, so that we could have a “Way of Salvation”, to God our Father. Prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus, He proved that He wanted to change our lives from reflecting the very pit of hell to breaking forth great changes in our lives to reflect His glory. Well, “IF THEN, DEFINITELY NOW” we can have the assurance of His love and grace for us. “IF THEN, DEFINITELY NOW” after committing our lives to His Lordship, we can claim His Presence in our lives. “IF THEN, DEFINITELY NOW” we can rest assuredly that He is for us and not against us. From Jesus’ compassion to us, we can also eye Daddy-God’s commitment to us who said in Romans 8:32-NLTSince God did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t God, who gave us Christ, also give us everything else? We can have the assurance that God
our Father and Jesus our Lord are mindful of us and loves us beyond measure. He died so that we can have the assurance of peace, joy and victory right in the midst of every one of life’s tribulations. John 16:33-I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Yes, we are going to have trials and tribulations; but the difference NOW is that we have Jesus in the Fiery Furnace and Lion’s Den with us. All that we need is in Jesus and He satisfies fully every need and many of the desires of our hearts. “IF THEN, DEFINITELY NOW” we can trust Jesus’ love for our personal lives, the lives of our family and for the provision of life itself. He has already proven that we can release the reins of our lives and allow Him to guide us. Jesus’ death and Resurrection secured our “Kingdom Benefit Package” which includes the 23rd Psalm. In the New Living Translation it reads: 1) The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need. 2) He lets me rest in green meadows; He leads me beside peaceful streams. 3) He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to His name. 4) Even when I walk through the dark valley of death, I will not be afraid, for You are close beside me. Your rod and Your staff protect and comfort me.
DR. TONYA LEWIS
5) You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6) Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life and I will live in the house of the LORD forever. So, if prior to us submitting our lives to Jesus we were offered this Psalm; “IF THEN, DEFINITELY NOW” we can rest with the assurance of this and all of the great promises of our Great God manifesting in our lives! Why not join us for holiday fun at our Christmas Fellowship, Dec. 5, 2009? For addl info: Dr. Tonya Lewis, onefaith2007@aol.com, One Faith Fellowship, P. O. PASTOR ELLIOTT BROWN SR.
PASTOR ALLEN O. SIMMONS
PASTOR FREDERICK E. HOWARD
FOUNDER 1940-1980
1980-1997
1997-PRESENT
We are excited to announce our 69th Church Anniversary and all the events leading up towards the culminating Anniversary Worship Celebration on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at 3:30 p.m. Since 1940, our church community has set trends of worship, service and gratitude and in 2009, we continue this long rich heritage that was set before us. Our founding Pastor Rev. Elliott Brown Sr. was called from Georgia to Pastor Evangelistic Baptist Church which was located
on Holmes Ave in the Palm Lane area, where Martin Luther King Hospital now sits. With his vision the church was able to purchase our current location at 10400 S. San Pedro Street. The name changed to Southside Bethel B.C. many ministries were birthed and relationships nurtured. After almost 50 years of pastoring, Pastor Elliott Brown Sr. passed the torch to Rev. Allen O. Simmons. Under his leadership additional properties were purchased, renovation of major parts of the
sanctuary were done and many more advances in ministry went forth. After the passing of Pastor Allen O. Simmons, the church voted overwhelmingly to appoint Pastor Frederick E. Howard to the position of Pastor. Pastor Howard jumped off the wagon with his feet moving with an initial beautification project, which beautified the campus with decorative Rod Iron Gates and paved parking area. Pastor Howard began working on the mindset of the believers and promoted a “Joshua Walk” Sermon
will serve a Pre-Thanksgiving Day Meal to the Homeless and Less Fortunate from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Lincoln Park, 200 W. Broadway, at the corner of Broadway and Pacific in Long Beach. Prior to the event, donations of usable clothing and personal items can be made by c o n t a c t i n g cedric.carpenter@totalmindbodynsoul.org, so that care packages can be assembled. This Outreach Ministry is geared towards helping others regain a balance life. This is their 15th event and due to these economical times, is growing by leaps and bounds. Therefore, you are invited to take time and move beyond the church walls to truly
bond as one body with a unified mission – to care for the brethren; even the least of them. (Matt. 25:35-40) You will be blessed! GMSMBC is located at 12317 S. Wilmington Avenue, Compton, CA. Telephone (310) 631-0261. Rev. Kalvin E. Cressel, Sr., Pastor Mother Sandra Taylor, Reporter

Service was concluded in the parking lot under a tent. More ministries were developed with a focus on
