PRAISES OF ZION CELEBRATES FAMILY DAY - 2013 “Therefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2) Dr.
J. Benjamin Hardwick, our pastor, and anointed man of God says, “To all the saints who belong to household of Jesus Christ by the will of God, as the Shepherd of Praise City, I bid “Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,” as the church family at “Praise City” proudly announces the celebration of Family Day-2013, which will be held January 20, 2013. Our theme for this occa-
sion is: “Families: It is Still All About Jesus”. (Hebrews 12:12). Our schedule for the day is as follows: at 7:00 a.m. service, praise, prayer, and preaching! At 11:00 0’clock worship hour, the same: praise, prayer, and preaching! We are prayerful that Rev. Terry Brooks will join us on this day in our services. Several other special surprises have been planned for this service. We are located at 8222 S. San Pedro St., in Los An-
geles, Ca. Of course there is a pew reserved just for you. You may call the church office for further information at (323) 750-1033. Pastor Hardwick reminds us, “That because there is a great company of witnesses in the bleachers watching from Heaven, let each one of us run the race of faith God has set before us.” He goes on to say, “Just as any good athlete does when preparing for a race, let us lay aside every sinful habit
and anything else that would slow down our progress toward our goal. Our goal is to finish “our race.“ ‘Know that a life well-pleasing in His sight will be made possible by the Lord Himself, if you continue to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” To God be the glory! ONE FAITH FELLOWSHIP’S NUGGETS FOR THE SOUL ARE YOU MAXIMIZING YOUR “LIMIT”? Limit meaning the ultimate extent, degree or amount. Various experiences have shaped our personalities! How we interact and the level of our patience with others! Also, how we view requests or appeals asked of us and what we are willing to do! Our right or wrong thinking, what we believe and how we react are all connected to the various conditions that have impacted our lives. For persons we love, we will act in a different manner toward them than with persons we do not like. Because we have a mixture of interpretations as to what is appropriate or not, we need a common
example or guide as to the proper way we should live our lives. Philippians 2:5- KJ-Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. NLT- You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. V 7- He gave up His divine privileges; took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. V 8- He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. If assuming the role of a servant and the likeness and nature of a human being were not enough, Jesus also humbled Himself to the point that He became obedient to God, even to death. This im-

plies that His obedience had no limits! Since Jesus humbled Himself to die for others, HE EXPECTS US TO humble ourselves and be willing to die to our will for the benefit of others. This means we can’t be-
have any way WE CHOOSE! This means it is not all about any one particular person! We can’t every time declare what we want, when we want it and how we want it! No! Individually, we don’t make the world go around! Therefore, in order to have Christ’s attitude of humility (humbleness and meekness), we must practice being humble on a consistent basis! We must continuously submit to Philippians 2:2... agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. 3-Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking
of others as better than yourselves. 4- Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. This is such a tall order! Such a consuming and life-long mandate to fulfill! However, it is attainable, because if not, it would have never been stated for us to do so. Matthew 18:21-Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone* who sins against me? Seven times?” 22-”No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! The Abundance of Green in 2013
The fore-stated is our mantra this year at the Watered Garden Fellowship. Just today I was at the bank and the terminal screen read, “Help Us Stay Green”. It further read, “You are saving time and paper with this transaction.” Going green is simply about best managing the earth’s resources. Businesses are being intentional about efficiency, functionality and productivity. The Body of Christ should be the leader of this mindset as it pertains to our existence in the earth realm both corporately and individually. We should be committed to giving God a great
return on his investment of life to us. As we have crossed over the threshold of a new year, don’t allow superstitious concepts about the number thirteen to pervade your psyche. There is nothing unfortunate, unlucky, or undesirable about this thirteenth year of the new millennium for believers. As a matter of fact, it’s a year of UNMERRITED favor. This is the year to fortify our trust in the Lord. Jeremiah 17:7 indicates that trusting in the Lord is the key to a green life. A green life is a nourished life, nurtured life, fruitful life, and a productive life. Green is a color that
communicates not only that something is alive but that it is well. All is well. In spite of the tragedies, catastrophes and calamities of today our God is faithful. His mercies endureth forever. His compassions fail not and his love is steadfast. As he lamented and was sorrowful, the prophet Jeremiah stated that the thing that served as the catalyst for him having hope was recalling to his own mind God’s mercies and compassions. Nothing will ever change anything about these attributes of God our father. So in the context of our mantra we can say of Abba Father’s love - it’s EVERGREEN.

AIM for Change
By the end of the lesson, we will: BECOME familiar with what Paul says about living as it relates to eternity with Jesus Christ; APPRECIATE that the journey of Christian living and a quest for something eternal are demanding experiences; and PLEDGE to stand firm in Jesus Christ.
Keep In Mind:
“Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing” (Philippians 3:16).
Focal verses:
Philippians 3:12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after,

IN FOCUS One of Aesop’s most enduring fables—one of many from this storyteller who became very popular in the Grecian court about 600 years before the birth of Christ— was about the tortoise (a turtle) and the hare (a rabbit). The story goes like this: One day the hare challenged the tortoise to a race. The hare thought this was going to be very easy. He could hop very fast, but the tortoise was very slow. The tortoise agreed to the race. They agreed upon the finish line just beyond a hill. Then the race began. The hare took off like a flash of lightning, while the tortoise was plodding along at a very slow but steady pace. But when the hare got beyond the hill, he decided that because the tortoise was so far behind him, he would take a nap. While the hare napped underneath a tree, the tortoise kept plodding along. Finally, he saw the lazy hare sleeping away. The big ol’ tortoise kept plodding along until finally he crossed the finish line. “Slow and steady wins the race!” said the triumphant tortoise. Some people start off their Christian walk with great enthusiasm, but they soon tire and maybe move on to something else. Paul wanted to encourage the Philippians to please our Lord in their daily lives and stay in the race. THE PEOPLE, PLACES AND TIMES Races. To the Greeks of Paul’s day, races were very important. After all, this was the culture that had invented the Olympics! Beforehand, the runner spent much time in physical fitness training. A race in those days was in a straight line. The runner followed the line and raced toward the finish line. At the conclusion of the race, the herald proclaimed the winner, and the winner stepped forward to receive the prize—a palm branch and perhaps money. The race was not just a game to the Greeks; only one man could win. In Christ, however, many will win and we hope to be in that crowd. BACKGROUND Before Paul was reaching out to grasp the prize, Jesus reached out to him and grasped him on the road to Damascus. All of us have different salvation stories. We can tell how God was reaching out to us and if we could see things from God’s perspective, we would probably realize that He was calling out to us at many times and in many ways before we received Him as our Savior. But God’s call to Paul (Saul, as he was called in those days) was quite different. First, God called out to him with a bright light and spoke directly to him. After this, Paul was blinded and was led to the city of Damascus. For three days, Paul was in this city fasting and unable to see. When the Lord sent Ananias to pray with him, the Lord told Ananias that Paul would bring the name of Jesus before Gentiles, kings, and Jews. This was the task that Jesus had taken hold of Paul to do. Paul did not want to fail in the task that the Lord Jesus had for him. The Lord has grasped each of us for different tasks. We have different things to do at different times of our lives, but we don’t want to fail to do those things that the Lord has called us to
if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
do. It’s a race. Will we reach the goal that He has set for us? IN DEPTH 1. Pressing toward the Goal (Philippians 3:12-14) After warning them about placing confidence in self, Paul proceeded to warn the Philippians about the dangers of false perfectionism. Although Paul strived with all that he had to attain this righteousness, he made no claim to having already achieved it. He emphatically rejected any claim to perfection. He knew from personal experience the dangers of legalism and its tendency to produce a false sense of righteousness. Apparently some at the Philippian church had deluded themselves with the notion that they were perfect. Paul emphasized that resurrection from the dead was not the only goal ahead. Even the objective that may be achieved in this life still lay ahead. Paul was still running the race. He could not slow his pace; to do so would be like a runner stopping short of the finish line. Paul does not consider his past achievements to be sufficient. He cannot rest on past accomplishments. The race is unfinished. He must continue to strive to fulfill the call of God that is given through Christ Jesus. Paul’s goal is to attain the objective that Christ has set for him. There is a danger in looking back. A runner would surely slow down and probably trip and lose the race. If we keep on looking back at the things we have accomplished, we will slow down as we admire what we have done. Some people look back and worry about the things they did and the things they didn’t do. Surely, Paul could have done that. There were Christians who had suffered greatly because of him before he came to Christ. And some of us are always trying to guess whether we have done things wrong, and the worry can surely trip us up. The antidote for that is remembering that worry is the opposite of trust. Paul gives us the answer in verse 13. We need to stop looking backward and just keep our eyes ahead, looking toward Jesus who is waiting for us at the finish line. Though unattained, perfection is Paul’s goal. Admittedly, it is an ambition that one never seems to be able to grasp. Still Paul is willing to continue to press toward the goal. He has begun the race and is committed to finishing the course. The work he has done so far has been good, but it is not over. As determined as Paul is to finish, he has not yet completed the race. Therefore, he cannot afford to be slack in his efforts. In the mean-time, he is concerned with avoiding the illusion of having actually gotten there. Because Christ grasped or took hold of Paul, he, in turn, wanted to grab hold of
the perfection, which is Christ’s goal for him. Conversion itself represents the beginning, not the completion, of the goal. Fulfilling God’s will has both a beginning and a desired end, but it is a process and a lifetime achievement. 2. Putting Commitment to the Goal into Practice (vv. 15-16) The King James translation of the word “perfect” in verse 15 appears to be a direct contradiction to Paul’s insistence that he is not perfect. What Paul meant here was the evidence of maturity—willingness to admit shortcomings, openness to correction, and willingness to be recreated in Christ Jesus. Those who possess this attitude are those who hold true to what they have attained. The Philippians were admonished to remain true to this point of view so that they could make further progress. They must neither forget the goal nor suffer under the illusion that they have already attained it. Just as there was a danger in assuming perfection had been reached, Paul was well aware, and equally concerned, about those who treated the goal with total disregard. SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES 1. Why did Paul continue to pursue the goal of perfection (Philippians 3:12)? 2. What was Paul committed to doing, even though he had not yet attained the goal (v. 13)? 3. Paul pressed toward what prize (v. 14)? 4. What was Paul’s advice to perfect (mature) believers (vv. 15-16)? DISCUSS THE MEANING God once told Abraham that He is his exceeding great reward. So it is with us—Jesus, Himself, is the prize that we are seeking. We are running the race and Jesus stands smiling at us at the finish line. Just like a child seeking to win first place in order to please his father, we are running the race to bring joy to our Lord. What things does Paul tell us runners that we should do to win the race? LESSON IN OUR SOCIETY The picture that this Scripture paints of Paul is that he is grasping with all his might. Today, we want to make it easy to follow Jesus. We want Jesus to drop all the material blessings into our laps. We certainly don’t want to suffer for Him. Is this the picture we see of Paul in these verses or anywhere else in Scripture? People in other places are suffering for Jesus, but we don’t always take this as seriously as we should. How can we turn around our lazy and indifferent attitudes toward our faith in Jesus Christ? MAKE IT HAPPEN Write down on a piece of paper the things you need to do to commit your life completely to Jesus. As a reminder, post it on the refrigerator or a mirror in your bedroom. MORE LIGHT ON TEXT Philippians 3:12-16 12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Now Paul makes it clear that the
attainment of the resurrection is in the future, something he sets his eyes on but has not achieved yet. It tends to expel the notion that the resurrection of all believers is only spiritual, totally and c o m p l e t e l y a c h i e ve d t h e moment one receives Christ as Lord. It also goes on to confirm that realization of the resurrection is not what we assume we own, without respect to the life we live. Rather, the attainment of the resurrection is something to be maintained and to strive for after receiving Christ. Paul definitely must have had this in mind when he urged the church to “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (2:12; 1 Corinthians 9:27; 10:12-14; Hebrews 10:26-37; 1 Peter 2:20-22). Paul says that he has not yet “attained” (Gk. lambano, pronounced lam-BAN-o), that is, laid hold of, taken, or received in receipt of a prize. The prize is the resurrection from the dead that is still to come. He has not yet reached his goal; neither is he “already perfect.” The word translated “perfect” is the Greek teleioo (tel-i-O-o) and is also translated to mean “fulfill” (Luke 2:43; John 19:28) and “finish” (John 4:34; 5:36; Acts 20:24). It has the idea of completing a given task. What kind of perfection does Paul refer to here? Is it perfection in character— meaning, Christian perfection? Alternatively, is it perfection in finishing his course? It has been suggested that in Philippi, there were those who

thought they had reached the goal of Christian perfection. Therefore, Paul wants to let them know that he neither thinks of himself as having “arrived”—reached his goal— nor does he see himself as “perfect,” sinless, or holy. This does not imply that Paul was lacking in spiritual experience, that he was deficient morally, or still cleaving to his old nature. But it is another demonstration of his humility, whereby he acknowledges that in all his life, God’s grace is still working. It means also that the task is not yet complete. The race is not over yet. There is still a course to finish to reach the set goal. Hence, he says, “But I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12). To “follow after” (Gk. dioko, dee-O-ko) means to run swiftly to catch a person or thing. It is also translated to press on — figuratively used of one that runs swiftly in a race as in the Olympics — in order to reach the goal and win a prize. There is a definite sense of urgency and eagerness and effort exerted here. Why is

he pressing so hard? He does it so that “I may apprehend” (Gk. katalambano, kat-alam-BAN-o) — or to obtain, attain, lay hold of — “that for which also” Christ Jesus “apprehended” him. This has the sense of being seized or taking possession of. Paul intimates that Christ had a definite purpose for taking possession of him. The first purpose is probably his call to ministry. Christ told Ananias following His encounter with Paul on the Damascus Road, “He is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake” (Acts 9:15-16; 22:15, 21; 26:15-18). The second purpose is the attainment of the prize—all that Christ saved him for and wants him to be (3:12). The “prize” to which the apostle strives could not be salvation itself, because he has elsewhere stressed that salvation is a gift of God not attainable by human efforts (Romans 3:2026; Ephesians 2:8-9). God declares us righteous as a free gift when we exercise faith in Christ’s atoning work. Again, the prize is the satisfaction of knowing he has fulfilled all that

The content of verses 13 and 14 is more than mere repetition of what Paul has already stated. These verses add emphasis, pointing to the seriousness and the importance of the matter with loving emotion. It seems that Paul, by adding “brethren” (Gk. adelphos, ad-el-FOS), a word of endearment, is invoking his close relationship with the church and showing a deep concern that she understand the truth he is writing. The use of the word shows that he is deeply moved; he is speaking the truth and would not lie to them. They are to listen to him and take his word for it rather than listen to those who probably claim that they have already reached perfection here and now. Again, Paul does not consider himself to have “arrived” or to have taken hold of the goal or
FOOD FOR THOUGHT
The Spiritual Leader’s Task
DR. JOYCE HARRELL
Henry & Richard Blackaby in their book, “Spiritual Leadership,” state, “Spiritual leaders move people from where they are to where God wants them to be. It’s important to know that people who fail to move people on to God’s agenda have not led. It is by persuasion and example by which leaders cause their people to change their attitudes and behaviors and to move forward
NEWS@RAISETHEPRAISENEWS.NET reached the finish line (using again an athletic metaphor). Although Paul has totally given up everything for the cause of Christ, renounced his Pharisaic opportunities and advantages, and has identified himself with Christ both in His suffering and in His death, Paul does not claim that he has reached perfection. However, there is “one thing I do,” he says, and that is “forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (v. 13). Paul is focused on the race ahead of him and avoiding any distraction from his past to impede his concentration on his bid for the prize. He does three things: 1. He forgets the past—the ground he has covered, or the hurdles he has scaled in the race. A good athlete does not look back when running. Otherwise, he or she would lose speed, direction and, more often than not, the race itself (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). Jesus cautioned, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62). Literally speaking, Paul would not allow his past achievements (Philippians 3:5-7) or his failures—most of all, persecuting the church
(v. 6; Acts 9:1)—to hinder him from the race. Forgetting them means he deliberately and mentally obliterates them from his focus. How easy it is for our past sins to deprive us of the joy and hope of our salvation. This is the one common weapon Satan uses against the Christian, accusing him before the throne. But we have assurance in the finished work of Christ (Romans 8:3339). 2. He “reaches forth” (Gk. epekteinomai, ep-ek-TI-nomahee), meaning he stretches himself and strains every nerve and muscle, sparing no energy while using every ounce of his strength to reach the set goal. It is like running the race of one’s life as if life depends totally on it. This is the attitude of every good competitive athlete. He does whatever is legally and ethically possible to win. 3. He presses on toward the mark—the finish line, the focus of every athlete’s eyes and mind from start to finish. The sense here is that the ultimate prize motivates him to persevere. Paul refers to that prize here as “the high

to achieve God’s purposes. When spiritual leaders have done their jobs, the people around them have encountered God and obeyed His will. Spiritual leaders depend on the Holy Spirit and only the Holy Spirit can produce spiritual change in people. Thus, spiritual leaders are accountable to God. Leaders are not to make excuses; they are to assume that it is their responsibility to move people to do God’s will. Spiritual leaders can influence all people, and not just God’s people; God is on a mission at the factory as well at the local church. Spiritual leaders work from God’s agenda and not their own. The greatest obstacle to effective spiritual leadership is people pursuing their own agendas rather than seeking God’s will. God’s purpose is to turn His people away from their self-centeredness and their sinful desires and to draw them into a relationship with Himself. Don’t make the mistake of determining what should be done, developing aggressive goals; dreaming grandiose dreams; casting grand visions; and then praying and asking God to join in your agenda. That is not what spiritual leaders do. The key to spiritual leadership is for spiritual leaders to understand God’s will for them and for their organizations.” Dr. Joyce is a lay-person, under the leadership of Dr. Ticey M. Brown, at Mt. calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). Professional sports for some athletes today are a very lucrative with a handsome reward. Apart from the gold, silver, or bronze medals, which athletes win in a race, they are rewarded with millions of dollars in salaries and product endorsements. Many take up acting careers and other endeavors that make millions more dollars. It is therefore not only the gold or the wreath of leaves or flowers, which they receive at the podium at the Olympics, for example, but the lasting benefit that follows. No wonder then that they train and try very hard to win. These rewards are earthly, perishable, and temporary. For Paul, though, the reward or prize is more than that: It is priceless and imperishable (1 Corinthians 9:25), the high calling of God in Christ Jesus, the upward call of life with Christ. “In Christ” means that Jesus is the sphere through which the invaluable prize is appropriated (Philippians 3:14). There are differences between earthly and heavenly races. In the earthly race, the prize is perishable; in the heavenly race, the prize is imperishable. In the earthly race, only one person wins the first prize (1 Corinthians 9:24); in the heavenly race,

everyone who loves the appearing of Christ is a winner (2 Timothy 4:8). On earth, the fastest wins, while in heaven, whoever remains on the course, in spite of the time one starts or ends or the pace one runs, wins. 15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16 Nevertheless, where-to we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. “Let us therefore” is language of appeal and Paul, including himself, shows again the spirit of humility that pervades this book and which he exemplifies throughout. He puts himself on the same level with the Philippines as his brethren (vv. 13, 17), and now as those who are “perfect,” not in sinlessness, or complete in ethical goodness. Rather, it is perfect as in mature, or full grown, in the knowledge of Christ—not as children but as those who have been thoroughly instructed and experienced in the ways of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:6; 14:20; Ephesians 4:13; Colossians 1:28). Paul urges them “to be thus minded” (Gk. phroneo, fronEH-o, see Philippians 2:2-5), to set their minds on the same things as he does, imitate his example regarding the things
1-888-290-7277 that are behind and stretch forward to pursue the mark for the prize. He then commits them to divine revelation and instruction. He says, “If in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you” (3:15). That means if any of you are in doubt of anything, are uncertain of your understanding of Christianity, or still have doubts about the Jewish ordinances, God will “reveal” the truth to you. “Reveal” in Greek is apokalupto (ap-ok-al-OOP-to), meaning to take off the cover or disclose what before was unknown. In verse 16, the Greek particle plen (plane), translated “nevertheless” here — which also means besides, moreover, or in any case — is used as a break in the sentence to emphasize an important truth. Here Paul urges them (including himself) to let their conduct be consistent with the level of understanding that they have attained. Whatever level we are, in verse 16, Paul says, “Let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing,” stressing the importance of harmony and mutual cooperation in spite of individual opinions on things. The phrase “let us walk,” in Greek stoicheo (stoy-KHEH-o) means to march in a row or in orderly ranks as in the military, or to keep in line. That means to conform to the standards or laid down principles, which God has established.

What must we be aware of that tears down our promised commitment to God? There are 5 things that will deter or prevent you from keeping the commitment to do Gods will. 1. Disappointment, 2. Indifference, 3. Ignorance, 4. Disobedience, 5. Willful unconfessed sin. We see through verse 7 of this passage, David, like a lot of us, was waiting for God to hear his cry for help. God answered him and it was like He had lifted him out of the grave, gave him new legs to stand on and gave him a message [a new song] to share with the world. He was happy in the new faith he found in the Lord, he was saved. He then, in verse 8, begins his vow of commitment. David is pumped up by the spirit, and shares his experience with others. He doesn’t hold back any words
about Gods mercy or faith. It’s like the feeling you get after a glorious conference or revival. You’re on the mountain bold and excited, and he asks God to keep him there. Then in verse 12, he starts having problems. Unnumbered evils around him, his sins are too many to number, he can feel their weight on him and he is too weak to fight them. Just like David, we also have fallen from the mountain. We have to remember that when God blesses us and lifts us up, satan is going to come up against us with everything he’s got. Another thing we need to be aware of is, the devil doesn’t always comes in like a lion. It could be where you focus your attention, something you should do but don’t, something you have no knowledge about, maybe you just don’t want to do it, or something you really like to do. All these have an effect on your commitment. The first we want to talk about is disap-
pointment. This is one way to pull your focus off of God, and on to something or someone. Satan will put your focus on other “Christians”. We will see inconsistencies in other Christians, seen or imagined. So disappointed are we in these saints of God, we question why we bother to do Gods will. We may unintentionally, or with malice and forethought, judge our fellow brothers and sisters because they are not living in accordance to Gods laws or the teachings of the word. (1Timothy 1:9-10, Romans 14:10) We look for compromising situations, start or spread rumors and lies. (John 8:44) We single out, find fault, remove from office or service in the church and commit emotional homicide to our fellow Christians. We let the brother or sister we wounded to fend for them self, unconcerned and oblivious to the damage done. Puffed up and proud that we cleansed corruption from Gods church.
(Proverbs 16:18) The old saying, “The army of God is the only army that leaves their wounded” can be devastatingly true at times. Next is indifference in your relationship with Christ. Indifference is so subtle a trick that quickly finds you over your head before you know it. It starts with small things like, skipping a service or two. This tears down the need for Christian fellowship and the need for church attendance. You start to forget your prayer time, the vital emergency cord when help is needed in your life. (Matthew 5:13) It
makes you a silent Christian by not telling others that you are a Christian. You become secret agents by not living your life to show others you are a Christian. The do what I say not do what I do Christian. To get to the point, two faced Christians. You say enough without saying anything at all. Then there’s ignorance. Continued On Page 14

wisdom, we must expand our limits in humbly dealing with one another! We must be more patient, gentler, kind and serve one another! We must act compassionately toward one another! We must delete our self-defined limits and follow Christ’s example on how to glorify Daddy-God IN ALL OF OUR ATTITUDES AND ACTIONS! What self-appointed “rights” do you need to let go? Are you as humble as Jesus was? Which areas are you constantly challenged by God through your conscience to do or not to do? Let’s decide to yield our hearts and wills
causes a domino effect leaving destruction in the path behind it. While pain is inevitable in this life’s journey, it is not to be left unattended. When we are hurt by life’s circumstance (be it loss, divorce, rejection, deception, etc.) it is IMPERATIVE we take the necessary steps to go through the process of healing – COMPLETELY. When we refuse to endure this process, we become weapons of mass destruction - hurting any and everyone in our path who are undeserving of the aftermath of our spiritual, even more to Daddy-God to be pleasing in His sight! Let’s understand that until we experience the level of the unimaginable sacrifice which Jesus made for each of us; then what is asked of us is not too much to do! Join us for our 1st Sat. psychological and emotional fractures. So often we tend to move right along to the next relationship opportunity without going through the process of healing only to find the unprocessed pain waiting for us in the new relationship with a new person. Though this response (to flee from pain) is celebrated by modern society, to our detriment, it has procured a mindset of false freedom. As Christians, God does not expect us to buy into this mindset. God expects us to endure pain for His Name-
sake. God also expects us to overcome pain in a mature fashion; rejoicing in our mistakes transformed into lessons learned and lessons learned into wisdom. It is gravely irresponsible to engage another human being in the cesspool of our pain. It is certainly our responsibility as Disciples of Christ to first recognize that “by His stripes we are healed” and to embrace time alone with God to “heal our broken hearts” in order that our spiritual condition is restored to wellness. Beginning new
relationships, without going through the process of healing, makes for an irresponsible Christian…If you have been hurt in a prior relationship… be honorable before God. Strip yourself naked before Him. Allow Him to prune you and shape you to His will. Only glorious things can come from such communion with Him – sound direction, wisdom, triumph and true peace. Here we ignore the true implications of spiritual responsibility and practice. These are the “I don’t know Christians”. They fall into the trap where they justify their sinful lives by remaining ignorant. So bible study is ignored, no notes taken during the sermon, Sunday school lessons aren’t read, anything they need to prevent them from doing the sin they enjoy, they ignore. This way they can say, “Oh I didn’t know that we weren’t supposed to do that as Christians.” so they are justified in doing it. The old adage, “If at first you don’t succeed, read the directions”. ( Acts 17:30 ) You can be a reader of the bible, and still be ignorant Christians. These will be the theoretical Christians. These have a vast book knowledge of the scripture but they do not practice what they read to prove it’s truth. (Romans 1:21-22, 1Peter 2:15). Quite a few become disobedient. They know what Gods will has revealed to them but they just won’t do it. Blatant disobedience is what the devil strives for. It makes us into the mule
headed Christians . The ones who take up space, complain, create trouble and don’t do a thing to further Gods calling. (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Willful unconfessed sin is devastating to churches. Christians are lured into loving a sin so much that they won’t confess it to God, they don’t want to give it up. The devil loves this one, and it’s usually deeply hooked into the Christian. Very pleasing, tempting, fun, habitual and lasting. These Christians are called, acrobatic Christians, one foot in the world, one foot in the church. (Proverbs 28:13) Billy Graham commented: “If you are a true believer in Christ, you are going to be at war. The lusts of the flesh, the influence of the world, and the devil are going to war against your Christian life. (1 John 1:9) Confess our sins so God can forgive us. If we return to our passage we see in verse 13 that David called out to the Lord again and asked to rescue him. So we must also call to the Lord. Tell him everything we have done against him and ask for forgiveness. To confess means to agree with God. I agree that I lied or cheated or was unkind or lost my temper. Be specific. It will remove you from your detour in life and bring you back to the right path. This done, a renewed fellowship with God will result. You are ready to repair your relationship with him. Go tell someone about your return to a life with God. Begin studying Gods word faithfully. Pray everyday all day. Get back to church for worship, fellowship and service. Make restitution, if necessary, to make right anything through which others might have been offended or taken advantage of. (2 Chronicles 7:14, Isaiah 55:7 ).
