MESSAGE FROM The Honourable
Audley Shaw The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF) congratulates the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association in partnership with the Jamaica Promotion Corporation (JAMPRO) on the staging of Expo Jamaica 2018. This provides yet another opportunity to showcase the creativity and standards of our Jamaican products and services and to strengthen Brand Jamaica. We welcome the significant role being played by your organizations in promoting Brand Jamaica and in improving our international competitiveness. This is particularly important as we build on the gains of the past 55 years and move towards a new level of growth and development. Manufacturing remains a key pillar of the Jamaican economy and the sector is an important driver of productivity, growth and trade. Our plan, as outlined in the manufacturing growth strategy, is to grow the sector’s contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from 8.6 to 16 per cent; increase employment by 20 per cent to 95,000 jobs and to improve exports by 20 per cent.
Hon. Audley Shaw, CD MP Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries
The resilience of the sector is a welcoming indication that entrepreneurs, who produce premium products of world-class quality, see the value in domestic production. A number of strong brands have emerged over the years, and are making their mark on the global scene. Indeed, our manufacturing sector is alive and well. The JMA and the JEA have continued to advocate for an improved business environment, and as a Government, we are committed to implementing reforms that will reduce or eliminate some of the impediments to doing business, and create a more competitive business environment. I applaud the JMA and the JEA on the 46th staging of ‘Expo Jamaica’ under the theme ‘Advancing Breakthroughs’ and acknowledge the pivotal roles of the organizations toward the growth of the Jamaican economy and the integration of Jamaica into the global trading system. As the Caribbean’s largest multi-sectoral tradeshow, our expectations are that it will be nothing short of phenomenal.

EXPO JAMAICA |
Message from Co-Chairs | Expo Jamaica Committee 2018Â
As we open our doors to yet another EXPO Jamaica event hosted jointly by the JMA & the JEA we as an organizing committee recognize the immense responsibility and the role we play in helping to grow our local economy. Our key responsibility is to help create the perfect platform for all stakeholders at this EXPO Jamaica 2018 and every other show to come.
EXPO Jamaica 2018 has made a deliberate move to make technology the center piece of our show. Online ticket sales, booking of exhibitor booths, business to business matchmaking and meetings, dissemination of information, high speed internet at both facilities are some of the features and important tools incorporated into the show to facilitate business at a whole new level.
Our show has grown tremendously in every respect. In 2016, we made our boldest move yet by expanding our display space by using the National Indoor Sports Centre alongside our traditional home at the National Arena and delivered yet again, our best show ever.
On behalf the Board of Directors of the JMA & JEA and our hard working organizing committee, we encourage and thank our buyers for coming out in their numbers, our exhibitors for a great effort, valuable sponsors, service providers and partners who have all come together to make EXPO Jamaica the success that it continues to deliver.
Through our buyer recruitment partner JAMPRO, we had a record number of buyers from local and overseas from more countries than we have had before, signaling greater interest in our products and services. We also had more repeat buyers again signaling that the show is considered to be even more important in their schedule.

JMA
MESSAGE FROM
Expo Jamaica carries the glory of Brand Jamaica, representing a celebration of Jamaica’s manufacturing and export sectors. As the largest trade show in the Caribbean, Expo Jamaica, now in its 46th staging, has been well established as the supreme platform for promoting all things Jamaican. Equally important, the event brings everyone together, and above all, makes consumers aware of the impressive range of goods and services available, right here on our “likkle but tallawah” island, that are innovative and of world-class quality. The Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) is proud to once again be hosting this event in partnership with the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA), Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), and our dedicated sponsors and other stakeholders.
Metry Seaga President | Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA)
The JMA remains resolute in supporting the manufacturing sector, providing every opportunity to capitalize on the strength of the Jamaican brand. This year, the theme for Expo Jamaica is “advancing breakthroughs”, and as such, micro and small businesses, who are the personification of innovation, tenacity and strength, take pride of place. The Jamaica Emerging Manufacturers and Services (JEMS) Village, a new feature of Expo Jamaica, showcases Jamaica’s micro and small companies from emerging sectors which include nutraceuticals, cosmetics, aromatherapy, castor oil and spa products. In this open world, there have been deeper integration and fiercer competition in the manufacturing and export industries. As such, the JMA has continued to endorse opportunities that significantly enhance the competitiveness of Jamaican products in the local and global environment. Manufacturers, who form the mighty pillar on which our economy stands, continue to be committed to the development of Jamaica, land we love. The message of ‘buying Jamaican to build Jamaica’ is as relevant today as it has ever been. Only by supporting each other and by creating an encouraging environment for production and export, can we ensure a brighter future. The liveliness and strength of Jamaica’s manufacturing sector will be witnessed at Expo Jamaica 2018. We invite you to enjoy!

Manufacturing
IS THE CORE
of a Healthier Economy
One cannot and should dare not imagine a Jamaica without manufacturing.
to the GDP annually, employs over 79,000 persons and exports goods valued at over US$450M.
Manufacturing is part of the very fabric of our country, helping to grow the economy by generating productivity, stimulating employment, development, and investment.
We continue to talk about economic growth, but the reality is, if we want something to grow, we have to nurture it, and manufacturing is no different. If we want to stimulate innovation and increase outputs from the sector, we have to facilitate this development. There are some fundamentals which must be addressed including access to financing, Government procurement, crime and safety, availability of factory space and over-taxation. The government must seek to create an enabling business and regulatory environment which will encourage more individuals to get into manufacturing and become competitive. The ease of doing business remains a challenge and reducing the costs of inputs, transportation and security are essential.
Often times, we fail to understand that manufacturing as a value-added industry has a positive spillover to wages, employment, and worker productivity in services whose output is used as a manufacturing input. Manufacturing has expanded beyond merely producing a product to drive expansion in services input such as logistics, advertising, research and development and office support. It is an industry with a multiplier effect four (4) times beyond the factory and has long expanded into non-production roles. There are opportunities for exports, import substitution, and numerous deep linkages to other vital economic areas such as tourism, agriculture, distribution and transport; it earns foreign exchange, provides jobs and reduces poverty. On average, manufacturing contributes 8.6%

| EXPO JAMAICA 2018
The Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) supports the world-renowned mantra ‘innovate or die’, and as such, encourages our members, big and small, to adjust to the changing market dynamics and embrace
innovation. We took it a step further this year, nurturing small entrepreneurs by exposing them to trade show participation, utilizing the largest platform, Expo Jamaica. The Jamaica Emerging Manufacturers and Services (JEMS) Village, showcasing the owners of these precious micro and small businesses which make up a critical component of and major contributor to the strength of local economies, are a demonstration of Expo Jamaica’s commitment to economic growth by advancing these breakthroughs.
“a dynamic, vibrant, market led manufacturing sector making high value-added world class products desired by consumers everywhere, using appropriate technologies and environmentally sustainable processes, linked to other sectors, with motivated, productive employees, within an enabling business and regulatory environment.”
We applaud the efforts and the resilience of our manufacturers and other entrepreneurs, who continue to robustly innovate despite existing challenges. Amid the challenges however, that indomitable entrepreneurial spirit perseveres, demonstrating adaptability and steadfastness.
Manufacturing is indeed the way forward. Today, more so than any time before, production and export are vital. Without a robust revival in the manufacturing sector, we can kiss any desires of great economic power goodbye.
In going forward, the manufacturing sector is expected to continue being a pillar of growth. The 2030 Vision Statement for the Manufacturing sector is:
We must recognize that a strong manufacturing industry is required for growth and development and demonstrate this every time we proudly support the industry by buying Jamaican and investing in Jamaica.

JEA
MESSAGE FROM
The JEA is very proud to be a key partner in the planning and execution of EXPO Jamaica. As the largest Trade Show in the Caribbean region, EXPO represents more than just a show for consumers to enjoy. The show serves as a strategic and critical marketplace for international and local buyers to experience all things Jamaican. It is for this reason that the theme of this year’s show is extremely relevant, “Advancing Breakthroughs” is what should be at the forefront of everything we do. The JEA understands the essential role exports play in the economic development of Jamaica and so we are committed to ensuring we do all we can, to help grow the nation’s exports. This means providing more avenues for capacity building of our exporting companies, access to financing and breaking into new markets to name a few. Taking a look at what is happening in international trade, it is incumbent upon us all, to ensure we are doing business on a global scale which means not just having quality products but standards and processes that meet and surpass world standards. A keen focus should also be placed on manufacturing value added products that sees an increase in sales outputs all along the value chain. When we add value, we create employment and increase the potential for greater revenue.
Michelle Chong President | Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA)
It is therefore imperative, that we take a keen look at the gaps in terms of the demand for various goods and services globally and begin to fill them. We have to take an aggressive approach at trying to penetrate various markets offering a cadre of non-traditional goods and services. There is a lot of growth and expansion occurring in the region around us and we must begin to move towards taking a bigger piece of the pie. The JEA’s tag line is “Let’s Think Bigger Together” and we believe that if the nation adopts this approach, it will begin to surge into new economic heights. So as we celebrate the 46th staging of EXPO Jamaica, we are excited about the possibilities and welcome all our buyers to explore the wonderful locally made products and services that will be showcased throughout the event. It is my dream that from this show, Jamaica will be able to see increased import substitutions and measureable export growth. The JEA is encouraged by the prospect of reviving Jamaica’s export industry to its former grandeur and truly monetizing Brand Jamaica in a profitable way for the country.

| EXPO JAMAICA 2018
The State of Jamaica’s Exports: Role of Export Driven Growth in Sustainable National Development According to the 2017 World Trade Organization’s Trade Policy report on Jamaica, “Jamaica has made major strides in restoring macroeconomic stability, pursuing prudent fiscal policy, reducing public debt and undertaking significant changes to its tax policy. Moreover, the financial system has become more resilient to shocks, inflation is at historic lows, the current account deficit has more than halved, net international reserves have doubled and business confidence is high. After many years of failing to do what is right and needed, Jamaica has done very well over the last five years in getting our fiscal house in order. As business people, we must applaud the current and previous governments for embarking on, and sticking to, a programme of disciplined management of our fiscal and economic affairs. We must also applaud the Bank of Jamaica for the excellent job it has been doing in the management of monetary policy, the economy and, more recently, the exchange rate. Many investors are looking positively at the country now and have seen opportunities in multiple areas. Local firms are also themselves in an expansion mode, with a positive investment outlook. An added advantage is Jamaica’s diversified market economy, which has accommodated over US$6 billion in foreign direct investments (FDI) over the past 10 years. In addition, of note to investors, Jamaica is the third largest English-speaking country in the Western Hemisphere offering a unique near shore advantage being located within a 4-hour flight radius of 500 million people, remarkable sea connectivity boasting the number one transshipment port in the region and strong air connectivity with frequent flights to major gateways worldwide.
14
| EXPO JAMAICA 2018
Against this backdrop, there are tremendous opportunities that can propel the economic growth and development of Jamaica which is why EXPO Jamaica is such an important national event showcasing ‘All Things Jamaican’. Exports are a key pathway through which growth can be stimulated in a sustainable way, resulting in continued expansion of our economy. More emphasis should therefore be placed on expanding non-traditional export sectors such as food, beverages, nutraceuticals, and mining which have shown the most potential to be sustainable success stories for Jamaica. Exports of our nontraditional foods have been out-performing 2008 levels. Whereas in 2008 Jamaica was exporting USD$56 million worth of non-traditional food items, the 2017 figures stand at USD$87 million. The fact is that the world has an insatiable appetite for all things Jamaican, and we have not tapped into this in any significant way yet. A keen focus has to be directed at developing more value added products in these key non-traditional sectors that can bring greater profit margins along every step of the value-chain. At the same time, Jamaica should look to further expand its traditional export sectors to take advantage of the global demand for these products. For example, exports of our alcoholic beverages moved from USD$27.6 million in exports in 2016 to USD$42.6 million in 2017. The point is that Jamaica should continue to produce both traditional and non-traditional products, in which we have a comparative advantage.
Jamaica has numerous opportunities and avenues through which we can achieve real sustainable economic growth and positively impact our current social circumstances. A restructured, high performing, well linked tourism sector, the cultural sector (including sports, music and entertainment) and manufacturing, including the new cannabis-linked industries are others from which we not only can get quick, sustained and mutually growth-reinforcing wins, these are areas in which we already have had success and have significant advantages. As a nation, we must create carefully developed and effectively implemented plans and programmes that can significantly impact export development. This will then lead to positive economic growth and will fulfil the duty of our generation: to leave an economically strong, growing, truly independent Jamaica that is the place of choice to live and do business.

That’s what we at Digicel are working on right now to provide as we build a Network of the Future capable of making clever concepts like these a reality. Then imagine what these and other smart innovations can do to advance breakthroughs in Jamaica’s manufacturing and export sectors. Since 2001, Digicel has been known as a hub of innovation in the provision of services to Jamaica, and as we celebrate our 17th anniversary which coincides with the opening of Expo 2018 on April 19, even now we are overflowing with advanced solutions that are powering the growth of industries and human development. This is why our Digicel Business team will be showcasing these innovations on the floor of Expo 2018 as we invite everyone to share in the excitement of how digitally-driven technologies are reshaping Jamaica’s future. A collaboration for export; JAMPRO pleased to support Expo Jamaica 2018 For the 6th time in the event’s history, the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has signed on to be the official Buyer Recruitment Partner for the largest trade exhibition in the Caribbean, Expo Jamaica. On behalf of the JAMPRO team, let me express our pleasure to, yet again, be working with the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA) on this initiative that promises exposure for many of Brand Jamaica’s best products, an opportunity to increase Jamaica’s exports to international markets, and the provision of a platform to build business relationships that will no doubt provide a boost for our economy. Throughout the years, JAMPRO has been witness to the incredible impact that Expo Jamaica has had on numerous Jamaican companies who, by their participation, were able to build firm partnerships which have improved their future prospects and access to global markets. In addition, JAMPRO has brought large international delegations to Expo Jamaica, such as the Fresh Produce Consortium out of the United Kingdom, who continue to have high demand for Jamaican products. With over 500 Buyers already registered for Expo Jamaica 2018, the event promises to be yet another successful staging. This year we are happy to announce that we will have strong regional support with delegations from Trinidad and Tobago, the Dominican Republic and Cuba, signaling that Brand Jamaica continues to gain prominence in the Latin America and Caribbean region.
Supporting Jamaican Exports at Expo Jamaica While our primary mandate for Expo Jamaica continues to be the recruitment of Buyers for the event, JAMPRO also works assiduously to ensure the quality and attendance of the contingent as a means of supporting growth in our manufacturing sector and increasing exports of our Jamaican goods and services. MESSAGE FROM
For more than a decade, the National Commercial Bank (NCB) has been sponsoring Expo Jamaica, the premier business symposium of the Caribbean. NCB has seen this event evolve with each staging, as more exhibitors, attendees and sponsors all seek to take advantage of viable business and networking opportunities facilitated by the largest business exposition in the region. Expo Jamaica 2018 is cloaked by the theme ‘Advancing Breakthroughs’ and aims to boost innovation within the local manufacturing and business sectors. This year’s theme aligns with our own understanding of innovation and its crucial role in achieving business success as it has become the backbone of our own business strategy. Having been a longtime advocate for digitisation and technology being key tools for advancement in a global marketplace, we joined the Expo Jamaica team as the foremost financial institution this year. We have also committed to supporting the next two stagings of this iconic trade show, at a total sponsorship of $12 million.
Kevin Ingram Senior Assistant General Manager National Commercial Bank Jamaica Ltd.
Expo Jamaica provides substantial business value from year to year as it affords businesses and professionals the opportunity to learn about products and services to help their enterprises exceed respective goals. The event also provides fertile ground for individuals thinking seriously about starting their own businesses. Expo Jamaica opens doors to interface with some 20,000 local consumers, business customers and prospects from across the region. This concept of establishing better business interactions at events like these helps to foster an improved business culture in Jamaica, an imperative of nation-building. As the nation’s bank, we are a chief proponent of this and so continue to be associated with Expo Jamaica, one of the few events which provides an ideal platform to promote our brand, showcase NCB’s extensive suite of financial products and services, and solidify our corporate commitment to the development of business in Jamaica. In fact, this year, we join the mound of some 400 exhibitors, setting up an elaborate booth to offer our exclusive products, deals and services, all while operating a fully functioning digital bank right in the heart of the National Arena. We commend the Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association (JMA) and the Jamaica Exporters’ Association (JEA) on their shared vision for business in Jamaica and the fortitude in continuing to execute this highly anticipated business event. For this, the 46th staging we are honoured to be the main financial institution and anticipate that this well-organised and productive show will allow us to harness our joint abilities to create a Jamaica that will be the place of choice to live, work, raise families and without a doubt, do business - Jamaica 2030.

Caribbean Airlines Expo Jamaica continues to be the best case for the success of Jamaican manufacturing and innovation. A view of the floor each year is a vote of confidence in our ability to attract regional, and international buyers for Jamaican made products. This show is an important way for us to expand our markets and to produce on a global scale. It is especially noteworthy that even as manufacturing titans come to the show with both new and classic products each year, there is also a vibrant group of new and innovative players, ready and eager to present their ideas and products to the world. In many ways, our size as a nation belies our talent and so follows our ability to create products that people will both need and treasure. Caribbean Airlines’ role in Jamaica’s export story is to help make and grow connections, either through passenger travel throughout our network or Caribbean Airlines Cargo as we deliver your goods to more than 250 cities.

JEMS MINI EXPO Jamaica Emerging Manufacturers and Services (JEMS) Village at Expo Jamaica 2018 is dedicated to upcoming entrepreneurs from the micro and small business sector.
Several JEMS exhibitors received a gem of an opportunity to showcase their goods and services at the recently held Mini Expo – Digicel Corporate Head Quarters.
JEMS will feature: beauty and cosmetics supplies, nutraceuticals, gifts and crafts, aromatherapy and spa products.
JEMS Mini Expo – Quotes 1. Kihara Cosmetics “Expo Jamaica Mini Expo presented an awesome opportunity for connecting to both customers and potential retailers for our products. Kihara Cosmetics is also now at the point of scaling up our business and Expo Jamaica is the perfect platform to launch our company into the mass market. We are happy to be a part of this trade show and we are looking forward to build Jamaica and by providing practical, affordable and effective solutions for hair, skin and nails. “ Dr. Charah T. Watson

2. EXOTICHILD Expo Jamaica’s mini expo brought me closer to my Jamaican consumers. I engaged and got feedback on what their preferences are for jewellery in the office versus what they would wear out, the price range more suitable for various working class demographics and also what their current interests are in regards to material used in jewellery e.g.. crystals are now popular because of the increase in understanding of how they can positively affect a person’s life. The mini expo also gave me a chance to interact with fellow exhibitors and gaining knowledge of their products and services. I especially enjoyed when the organizers went to each booth, giving us CEOs the opportunity to express our vision and share knowledge about our brand. The giveaway and games was very fun too! I got a chance to meet several organizers who were all motivating, pleasant and encouraging. I look forward to being more involved in JEMS! It was an overall fun and educational experience which is just a tups of what is to be expected at Expo Jamaica! Thank you for the opportunity! Adrianna Bryan | Mother of EXOTICHILD
3. Turner’s Technologies ‘The Mini EXPO pre-launch was a golden opportunity and perfect platform for Turner’s Choice to showcase our wide range of Sorrel Products. It’s Jamaica’s very own Cranberry, but better! It’s also a privilege to share the many great health benefit of Jamaica’s well known beloved sorrel that is full antioxidants and can help significantly reduce blood pressure, as well as introducing new and innovative ways to use sorrel never thought of before like in sauces, baking and snacking! Jamaica EXPO is essential for bridging the gap of authentic quality Jamaican Products like ours to its own diaspora and the world. It is by far the most modern organised and experienced event in the Caribbean. Jamaica has the best raw materials, talent and creativity and support to produce world class products, The vast professional EXPO team are getting that message to the diaspora and the world, this will eventually increase our countries independence by creating jobs and wealth opportunities.’ – Allison Turner, Director

4. Bresheh To begin with, we really appreciate this special JEMS facility that has been implemented by JMA/JEA. For us at Bresheh, the mini expo was a great way to showcase our bags and warm up for the big stage in April at Expo Jamaica. We support and are grateful for any move which aims to make dreams happen. -Randy McLaren | Bresheh
5. Sweetie Confectionary The Mini-Expo was a sweet success for us. Not only were we, and other small companies like ourselves able to make sales on the day, but we specifically got to introduce Jamaica’s only commercial candy company to those in attendance. We look forward to what’s shaping up to be a fantastic Expo 2018. -Patria-Kaye Aarons, CEO Sweetie Confectionary
