ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO Ruben Pîntea
About me A determined person, sure of its own choices, confident and pragmatic. I am always eager to get involved in new projects and work together with passionate people towards great results. Questioning my knowledge about architecture gives me great satisfaction, being aware that it is the only way to grow and develop as an individual and also as a professional. Although fascinated with aesthetics in architecture and product design, I’m constantly thinking about the functionailty of it and how architecture can solve problems that would assure an optimistic future for us people and the planet we live on.

Extension of Theological Seminary
The historic Roman had a specific character, continuos street frontages, ground floors that were very public, vital for the urban life. Today, this unique character is completely lost given that most of the historic center was demolished in the socialist period, and instead, a generic architecture was built which is lacking any specificity. The project site is one of the few valuable historic urban fragments that still exist in Roman city, though it seems that time has left it behind. The motivation of the project was to regain its identity and give it back to the city as
a new park designed to be as public as possible. A new order was introduced by creating a precise volume as a response to the existing monuments. The result is an inner courtyard that becomes the most important public space for the unified ensemble. The new architecture was designed to be neutral, however strong, to add to the heaviness of the place. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Dan Marin Duration: 24 weeks - Diploma 2021

Public space dimension
The project site is located very close to the center of Bucharest, on the “Regina Maria Boulevard”. It is surrounded by streets and opens up to a 20th-century church. To enrich urban life, we choose a transparent ground floor that allows visual connections and functions as a filter between the boulevard and the plaza generated by the new building. The urban space create has different relationships with the streets and orients itself towards the church. We designed a ground floor with three separate entrances or three functions: a library, a cafeteria, and a small contemporary art
center, which has its path up to the third floor and ends with an uninterrupted view towards the Monarchy hill. The building has a contrasting approach to its surroundings: a plain architecture which contains a floating heavy volume allowing transparency towards the protected plaza. The geometry of the new building is a result of the connections that needed to be established. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Dan Marin Duration: 8 weeks - 6th semester In Collaboration with: Ciocîrlan Mihai

Lakehouse
The first thought which crossed into my mind when I wanted to build something here was respect towards nature. The house wants to integrate itself into this untouched paradise. It is situated around the “Red Lake”, in a hidden place, at the base of “Hășmașul Mare” mountain. It is a holiday house that you can reach from the forest or the water. The main concept was to create an image of a strong horizontal line that floats above the water, towards the dusk. Also, a window was created to disappear into the wall thickness to maximize the interior space. The structure is entirely made out of oak wood, a house that naturally ages. The retreat
The project aims to emphasize the unique natural characteristics of the location - a strong horizontal line overlooking the “Pucioasa” lake. The entrance lobby has a high glass ceiling which floods the space with light, while at the same time connects two different volumes, one for spa and the other one for the accomodation. The Creation House
To think of an extension in a place like this is an opportunity of reflection about the identity of times. The existing building belongs to a different era. For this reason, we came up with a different architectural language. A volume that stands out from all historical references. The project occupies its place in history, respecting the heritage. It now functions as a meeting place for a variety of art creators. The cafeteria was built around the house to link all the spaces from the ensemble, and at the same time to attract people walking by the street. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Berzei offices
The proposal offers special attention to the corner that opens up to the plaza that intersects with the “Berzei” street. The volume speculates the unique characteristics of the streets surrounding the plot: the boulevard break determines a curved facade leading to the main entrance to the building. It responds differently to each street surrounding it. The main vision was to integrate the old urban fabric within the proposal. The result of this combination of old and new is materialized by an outdoor protected
space - a meeting place. The geometry of the building consists of a free form, fluid, almost sculptural. Three different volumes, united through a double-skinned glass facade, verticals which counterbalances the dominance of the horizontal floors. On the first and second floors, the building integrates public functions and at the superior ones flexible office spaces. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Collective housing
One of the most important aspects of Bucharest is the fast densification of the central area. Because of this, there is a fragile relationship between habitation within an old neighborhood and the increase of density which can many times alter the place and reduce its qualities. Our proposal seeks a new rule that would better respond to the upcoming urban fabric. It tries to mediate between different sizes and densities, by proposing a volume which is divided and responds differently to the streets surrounding it. There are 37 residential units - apartments
range from studios to four-bedroom apartments - each one of them laying on one or two floors, having private courtyards or terraces of different sizes. They all are complemented by several indoor and outdoor common spaces while the ground floor offers several commercial spaces and ateliers to rent, towards the street and the inner courtyard. Pavilion of silence
The main idea of this project was to create an object of emotional experience. Its aesthetics was designed to be seductive from all angles, aims to help its audience to relax and observe. The structure is conceived to be temporary, entirely made out of wood, located in a very crowded place from Bucharest, near the “Victoriei” plaza. The natural light plays a significant role in the overall image of the structure, changing its appearance throughout the day. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Community
The site is located in the historical center of Arad, a city with an extraordinary quality of architecture, a place where the façade itself stands out. One of our first concerns was to give a response to the continuous and homogenous street front. We decided to complete it and to leave a pause between our houses and one of the existing buildings, where we designed the entrance to the site. We reinterpreted the existing model of the entrance from the local architecture. Also, the existing brick wall from the back of the site was kept as part
of our project. There are 7 houses which offer views towards the street as well as the generous internal courtyard. Also, a common space was created - the pavilion - a multifunctional space that would serve each inhabitant’s need. Studio Critic: PhD Professor, Arch. Dan Marin Duration: 10 weeks - 4th semester In Collaboration with: Ciocîrlan Mihai
