VISION I am a passionate and innovative Master Architect (Madrid, ETSAM) based in New York, interested in architecture and its context. I’m registered in Spain (COADE) and bring over six years in academic and professional experience. I am LEED accredited, and have been working as a Project Architect Designer in the United States for five years, with some projects in Spain. I’m focused on using environmental strategies in all the phases of the project. Every project is tied to its cultural, economy and social context. Only by working in an interdisciplinary team and understanding that the technical should support the design, will an original, functional, and cost effective object be created. 2

Honorable Mark (Selected as one of the best project of the 2011 ETSAM promotion) Showed in UFMG Federale de Minas Gerais University (Brazil) under the public exhibitions called ”PROJECTAR”. Published in “Designing the Future” Architectural Magazine no. 4 (Europe Publication) Register Architect Thesis Project - Architectural Design/MEP/Structural.
PROPOSED - POROSITY
Concept The site for this project has two main features: the historic landscape of Madrid’s imperial views, and a new linear park Manzanares, that sits over an old urban highway. The existing site consisted of buildings that created a long visual and physical barrier between old Madrid and its new linear park. The project therefore tries to connect these two spaces, by cutting the barrier, with the wall as an architectonic concept.

Reinterpretation of the Context. Understanding the main parameters that shape the project in the context, we came up with a massing based upon the zoning analysis + environmental + context considerations. A project thought from different approximations that is looking to fit in the context using the most characteristic material in the Upper West side: the brick. The coloration of the brick is another factor that we understood from the beginning. The first question was how can we rethink a cheap and common material such as the brick with the building still standing out

in the surrounding context? A facade that blends all the brick coloration and makes a wonderful gradient from one color (bottom) to another lighter color (top) to emphasize the height of the new massing. That is, the massing following will stand out and will integrate this diverse layout, breaking the corners and the crown all the way up. The contemporary massing based on Solid/Glass allows the street to continue and the neighborhood to still keep the same nature but now, the brick and the glass will adopt the zoning laws, energy / efficiency strategies (not entire glass buildings anymore!) and the reinterpretation of the Upper West Side way of life.

Building upon the genetic lineage of the Metabolists we have devised a system of dwelling units agglomerated from base modules ranging in number from two to twelve. The agglomerated configuration allows individual domiciles to grow and shrink based on the owner’s requirements and availability of adjacent space. The ability to expand and contract a particular domicile by minimally invasive methods would allow the neighborhood to evolve organically, thus fostering a community that can incrementally adapt to changing fashions, technologies, and demographic demands, floor ance floor thus preventing the tower’s populationAmenities from being displaced en masse, and avoiding the spike in housing demand that would ensue. For many, a major downside to the prospect of high-rise living is traditionally expected from a neighborhood. A major component in the development of a harmonious and thriving community is the prevalence and public and semi-public green space distributed across a specific geographic area. Residents, especially on foot, are acutely aware of their procession through the gridded urban fabric, and will often choose their paths so as to pass by certain favorite locations, including familiar businesses, home of friends and public green spaces. In developing a concept for a true vertical neighborhood, we accepted the idea of a processional green network to the circulatory system of a residential tower. This was achieved through the use of a terraced spiral of gardens that continuously wraps around the tower from bottom to top. This green spiral provides a sequence of connected semi-public spaces that act as a network of recreation spaces and social theaters in which relationships between neighbors can develop organically. The spiral is glazed on the north and west facades, creating winter gardens and open on the south and east facades, creating summer gardens, thus ensuring that in all seasons residents will be able to find climatically desirable semi-private places to spend their leisure time.

HELSINKI CENTRAL LIBRARY Helsinki, Finland
Work at STL Architects Role/Responsibility: Team Members: Engineer: Environmental: GSF:
Junior Architect. Concept. 2 Juniors + Principal Arup Chicago Arup Chicago 13,150 M2 Helsinki is a library
The Library is Helsinki
Helsinki Central Library
Urban Concept Design: If a library is a container of culture with the mission of making knowledge available to the people, then Helsinki is one of the greatest libraries in the world. The new Helsinki Central Library is conceived as a reflection of its city, acting as a filter of cultural activity, and honoring the lifeblood of the Heart of Helsinki: its people. Everyone is invited into the open, flowing, and vibrant spaces which will help the Central Library act as a catalyst for social and cultural interaction. Helsinki is a compact organism that provides a forum for human activities; it is an urban theatre of life and culture. Helsinki’s city plan displays two coexisting programmatic realities, two parallel environments of activity: Structured spaces and Flexible spaces. These two realities define each other both in concept and form. The Structured spaces provide a background in which Flexible spaces unfold. Structured spaces have a three dimensional expression, they are buildings which contain activities. Flexible spaces on the other hand take place in the interstitial spaces left between the buildings; they are the plazas and parks connected by streets and boulevards.
