Introduction Jason founded JMC Legal Recruitment in November 2016 and has grown the company to become the UK’s leading legal recruiter that ranks #1 on Google. When I joined the team, the social media following was lamenting around 500 followers. In the last three years, I have been solely spearheading the social media content creation, marketing, advertising and campaign management.

Hitting 1000 followers after 4 months on the job, I started to get a hang of social media content designing, trying new and engaging ways for our audience to enage with the consultants here at JMC.
Along the way we picked up a couple trending articles we produced, on the likes of Linkedin’s editors picks. This saw our post get shared around 67 times with over 32,000 views and around 100 reactions. You can see above that my social media was starting to pick up momentum with a blend of news, updates & some quirky animations (see snapshots below)
As the brand grew, so did our social media followers on Linkedin specifically. Mainly because majority of working professionals in law use Linkedin over facebook, twitter & facebook. We hit 3000 followers after 11 months in the role.
With new features comes new opportunities. The invite tool was tested on 25% of linkedin members who were registered as admin on company pages. I quickly made the most of this feature across the 3 days it was being trialled by adding every consultant with networks of 5-10k to invite their followers. We saw a 1800% increase in followers over 3 days which ultimately saw our follower count go up to around 9000 followers.
With the new influx of many new followers, our online prescence continued to dominate the legal space, as did our content’s origninality and quality. We would see this quite commonly across a number of our posts heralding massive amounts of exposure almost inadvertantly doubling the amount of sales for the consultants.
I will get on to it shortly but you might be able to realise as we have grown in number, so to has the brand gone through many changes. My approach to the branding of JMC was to continually inject new life into the brand to prevent it from going stale. I see it with many other agencies where their branding bores me.
Bringing us to today, now. With over 20,000+ followers and counting, the JMC Brand continues to dominate the legal sphere via more developed brand pieces, exciting new edited videos & animations that reflect a more professional & developed brand. With a mixture of podcast episodes (career success podcast, job adverts, engaging videos, feature length animations, articles, blog pieces & company updates - there isnt a shortage of content to be enjoyed by our audience.

Whilst the above marketing has a charm to it, its very stock imagery and to be honest, I’ve seen so many companies with a lack of differentiating themselves go this route. Considering Jason tasked me with elevating the brand to new heights, I could not continue this sort of style.
Developing the first brand identity An opportunity to advertise in modern laws magazine & the law society presented itself of which I needed to create a whole page advert for the brand. With nothing exisiting yet, this pushed me to developing the taglines & graphics below. Some of which were hit and miss really, but I wanted to show the development of the brand to the current day. This task also birthed what is currently the cornerstone to JMC’s brand; “Launch your career”.

These visuals and tagline mark the start of a series of developments in the brand. Starting Launching your career to; “Taking your career to new heights” next. After a bit of brainstorming new taglines for the company to hinge its branding off, I came up with “Launch your career”. Very simple, easy to remember and visual enough for me to develop a simple rocket launch animation using after effects - the rest is history. From magazine full page ads to email signatures and social media posts & banners.

I began to see every new development of the brand as almost a new episode, the next sequel in this ever evolving campaign of taglines & visuals. This “episode” was all about empowering the candidates to perhaps make that career changing ‘move’. This was directly correlated to research I conducted within the company from the consultants. They wanted more relocators and people motivated to make the moves. Elements from these designs can be found in the brands current iterations (clouds).

Pride 2019 JMC Legal Recruitment
With JMC legal Recruitment celebrating the month of pride every year, I felt more of a spotlight from our branding was needed! Instead of going the same boring route every other company does with their branding & pride (see below examples); I set about creating something creative & an obvious blend of JMC’s quirky brand.

So the idea behind using watercolours blended together was to reinforce gender fludity as well; Pride celebrates all forms.
We saw a massive amount of love & appreciation from a lot of our audience and clients, hearlding the designs for their creativity in terms of designing branding around celebrations & holidays.
The animation I created for this campaign was using videos of watercolours spreading & developing on a surface to reveal my blend of colour beneath.
Broaden your horizons
BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS Essentially the summer time branding, this was a natural evolution for the branding the keep the branding looking stale all year round. Playing upon the vibrant colours and visuals one would associate with summertime. The top version was from the year before. The below is the 2021 version. This marketing just applies to email signatures and social media banners until we change it back & push the brand forward around september time. Considering JMC legal calls Bristol its home, over the years some of bristols most common sights were designed into some of the campaigns. This has led me to create some pretty quirky animations involving hot air balloons. As seen to the left here. A lot of this branding was at some point used to feed the social media content machine.

JMC is on a mission in 2020..
Starting 2020 off with a brand new refresh, I thought a series continuation from “launch your career” branding was the next evolution for JMC legal. Whilst its pretty tongue in cheek, I designed the JMC rocket to be venturing through space, on its next mission. This was something JMC as business was aiming for in 2020 until covid hit. JMC was on a mission to align exceptional talent with exceptional law firms.
Evolving the brand 2021
Initially when approaching a new brand refresh, I would play with new taglines, new visuals & new ways to further the brand. Whilst none of these designs were used, its important to show my development and process of thinking when it comes to developing the brand, to re-invograte the online content.
This set of banners I started to design with elements from previous evolutions of the brand. Tasked with taking the brand back to its routes with an upcoming project I had in mind (future thinking continually evolving animation). Elements from “launch your career” & “take your career to new heights”.
Future thinking, Continually Evolving
The evolution of the JMC Brand in the latest piece for social media, I created an animation showcasing the ever evolving brand of JMC from its earlier inception of stock imagery through to the ‘launch your career’ campaigns & ending in a grand new unveiling of the newly re-freshed JMC Legal Recruitment. (A seperate document goes through the process of making this animation).
The video did exceedingly well, with a stronger than average engagement rate and overall appreciation from all the consultants, management & clients. To date, its some of my strongest branding & content work. It successfully blends photography, animation, and taps into nostalgia from showcasing all the past branding examples to culminate in new branding which I’m sure will serve the brand awesomely well for the year 2021.
