Welcome to the archipelago he islands of the Gothenburg archipelago are totally enchanting. You travel across blue seas and gaze at windswept trees, historical lookouts, deserted beaches, rocks warmed by the sun and unspoiled landscapes. The islands may seem remote, but in fact they are easily accessible from Gothenburg. M AY B E I T ’ S T H E I R wild nature, and maybe it´s their location; either way, the Gothenburg archipelago has been a magnet for creative people, visitors and locals for many years. Here you can walk, cycle, beachcomb or ramble along the islands’ many trails and paths. The villages in the archipelago are dotted with wooden houses, built using traditional methods from ancient fishing communities, many dating as far back as the 18th century. Each island takes pride in being different from the others and each community has a heritage, including a traditional and a modern way of life. G E T T I N G T O T H E A R C H I P E L A G O is easy. A good place to start is choosing a destination. This brochure will give you enough information on the islands to pick out a few! Northern archipelago: easy access by car, bus and ferry. There are buses from the city centre direct to the northern archipelago. There are bus stops on most of the islands; some are small enough to walk around. Southern archipelago: take the no. 11 tram from the city to Saltholmen ferry terminal. From there take a ferry to the island of your choice. During the summer months you can also catch a ferry from Stenpiren, near the centre of Gothenburg, directly to the southern islands.
