2012 BLUEFIELD COLLEGE MEN’S SOCCER NOTES TODAY’S MATCH PREVIEW The men’s soccer team opens up their home 2012 season campaign today against NCCA– Div II side, Chowan University. The Hawks are entering the season with 0-0 record, and will be competing in their first regular season contest versus Bluefield. The two teams met a year ago in North Carolina as the Rams came away with a 2-1 victory on the road after outshooting Chowan 14-8 in the match. Steven “Haiti” Guerrier came away with the game-winning overtime goal in the 102nd minute, while Dan Turpin assisted on both goals on the day. The Hawks finished the 2011 season with a final record of 1-15, while the Rams finished with a 89-1 overall record. The Hawks play in the CIAA, as well as a member of the NCCAA.

IN THE PREVIOUS MATCH The Rams opened their 2012 regular season schedule on the road on Tuesday against Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia. Bluefield almost pulled out a tough road match in pouring rain conditions, as they gave up a late 81st minute goal in a 3-2 losing effort. The Bears, who play in the NAIA’s toughest conference-the SSAC, picked up two goals in the 2nd half. The Rams opened the scoring first off a nice finish by Soph Winger Chris Gummer. Freshman FWD Erik Albarran also picked up his first goal of the regular season after drawing a penalty in the box. Watson went all 90 minutes in net for BC.
