BOY BOY + 1 By Paul Abrantes

In less accepting times, straight women who enjoyed the company of gay men were called “fag hags.” These days, they are known as “fruit flies.” I still have my fruit flies but they have become a bit last season. Their boyfriends (the straight male) are in. BOY BOY +1 refers to a gay-straight male friendship. Close friendships between men of the same sexuality have never been an issue. It is the unconsummated intimacy of the BOY BOY+1 that is obvious but transcended, that makes it a relationship worthy of its own unique title, BOY BOY+1. I have come to realize that I am a BOY BOY +1 kind of guy. For years most of my closest male friends have been straight. A true BOY BOY +1 happens between men who know themselves, who are over their issues, and just want to hang out with other intelligent and open minded men. Oh yeah it doesn’t hurt if he’s hot. There is a mutual attraction in a BOY BOY +1, but the fact that there is no sex is liberating for both involved. Once I met Nicholas, my straight male friend, I began to realize the significance of this relationship dynamic. He also acknowledged it was special and he named me his BOY BOY and I named him my +1. Nicholas and I are able to talk about anything and everything. Most straight men don`t discuss their emotions with their straight male friends. Hanging out with me, he will talk about relationships and feelings in a complex way with someone who understands the male and female

Let the fruit flies go

point of view. Nicholas is able to be sensitive without judgment. In many ways, we are more ourselves with each other than with those who share our bed. BOY BOY +1 is the future. We have shared biology and similar outlook, compared to which our choice of sexual partner is merely a detail. Now fruit fly don’t be mad, this is truly more of a thank you for your years of service to your BOY BOY. We are now able to give back to you, by making your man more emotionally available and he’s going to look hot in the process. Nicholas and I are a great compliment to one another and for that we must shop... Now comes the crucial part in this dynamic power couple relationship, his appearance. Nicholas already had a taste for fashion, “lucky me”, but needed

a bit of tweaking. We love to mix and match his wardrobe with RUFSKIN, it adds that extra layer of confidence. On this page are a few of the items Nicholas likes to wear. Top to bottom clockwise: YACHT - tank top designed for maximum comfort with timeless, vintage style. RAMBLA - 80s inspired warm up jacket made of soft and durable “bird’s eye mesh” with gold zippers. CATCH - Progressive, spacious and lightweight, this yoga styled sport pant is versatile and made from super comfortable cotton/spandex fabric. CODY - Constructed from lightweight, stretch, camouflage twill, and dyed a vivid, fiery red. The front and hood are lined with sport mesh and it has a double headed zipper closure PRACTICE - Made from lustrous, stretchy nylon/spandex fabric with an elastic band and drawcord, zipper openings at ankle.

SHAWN GREICO Talks soccer, modeling & being a RufBoy Questions by Douglas Coats

You have a last name Grieco…is that Italian? -Correct. The basis of Italian history… Greco-Romans! We are mentioned in the Bible! My grandparents came over on the boat when they were in their early childhood years. What school did you go to? Degree? -I attended Fresno Pacific University and earned my degree in Criminology. Hopefully I will be an investigator of some sort! Or working in the RUFSKIN office! You played soccer (football) in college…tell us about your experience playing that sport? -Soccer has to be one of the most physically demanding sports to play. I doubt I would be a model if I hadn’t played soccer for so many years. My legs and abs thank me for playing soccer. I also learned a lot about other cultures. I had teammates from Serbia, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Mexico and even Canada. I was able to travel quite a bit through soccer as well. It cultured me and allowed me to grow as an individual. If you could sit down for a beer with anyone in the world living or dead who would it be? -If you know me personally, you are going to think this is cliché of me to say, but I would like to sit down and have a beer with Cristiano Ronaldo. People have told me that I look like him and I admire his gamesmanship on the pitch. He is arguably one of the best players in the world, I think it would be an honor to have a beer and hang out with him. Hmm possibly Rihanna as well! ;) Can I choose 2?? What country or destination would you like to visit next?

3

-There are a lot to choose from right now. I am in the traveling mood lately. But if I had to choose one, it would be Bora Bora. Those Tiki rooms and huts that are in the middle of crystal clear water look amazing. I would love to go there and relax for a week… or so! You were chosen to model for the brand RUFSKIN for the last few years, how would you describe your experience while shooting for RUFSKIN? Why do you think they chose you? -The experience of shooting for RUFSKIN is unbelievable. It is much different than shooting for other companies. They are more than just a company to me. They are like family and have treated me that way since day one. Hubert is an excellent photographer and designer. I always give him a hard time while he is making “killer shots”. And Doug does an amazing job at making sure you are well taken care of. They chose me because I look like Cristiano Ronaldo and I am Italian, duh! What type of daily routines do you recommend to keep up your model appearance? - I recommend a daily gym routine, cardio, and “healthy” eating habits. Oh yeah, and soccer (football)!!

What song(s) are you currently listening to over and over again on your iPod? -I have some Top 40 stuff on it. Ne-yo’s new “Forever Now”, Chris Brown, “Beat it” and Drake’s new song “No New Friends”. There is also some house music. Sorry Grandma, no Frank Sinatra. If aliens landed in front of you and, in exchange for anything you desire, offered you any position on their planet, what would you want? -The coach of their soccer (football) team! Which would hopefully lead to some endorsement deals in modeling! Ha!! What is one interesting thing about yourself that people would be surprised to know? -I was once homeless with my mom and younger brother. Hardly anyone knows that about me. But it has shaped me into the hard working and honest individual that I am today.

RUFLIFE

A healthy dose of wellness, nutrition and the RUFSKIN lifestyle By RUFSKIN resident health guru, Neil Ingham.

At RUFSKIN we believe that if you feel good, then you look good too. Feeling good about yourself in our clothes is our mission; and to help everyone feel even better the next time they strap on a pair of sexy, stretch-denim pants, we’ve gathered some fun and helpful tips about nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle from the actual models themselves to help you feel and look your best this summer, and all the seasons to come.

(think about bringing them away from the ears).

Posture:

Now, see how long you can maintain proper posture. If you feel an almost instantaneous “burning” sensation through your upper back, you know that feeling, “I don’t think I can hold this much longer cause I’m getting tired” …and your shoulders want to roll forward; you will certainly find some benefit from performing this exercise, and will hopefully realize where to make some adjustments to your posture.

In some people’s day-to-day lives, they spend most of their day sitting in chairs, right on those sweet cheeks that we all love and know so well; but what many people don’t realize is how bad this is for their body’s structural integrity, and the cosmetics of our backsides. Sitting in chairs makes our abdominals weak, our shoulders round and roll forward, our hamstrings tight…the list could go on, but hopefully you get the point. Many people will stay in these positions for 8+ hours a day, essentially training their bodies to move unnaturally and improperly. These effects cause imbalances in the body, resulting in improper ranges of motion and can then lead to pain and injuries that take away from all the hard-fought efforts that are put into the gym/studio (or kitchen). The bottom line is that we work hard in the gym or the yoga studio to exercise our minds, bodies, and souls; and if we have nagging pain/injuries, due to improper posture, the experience is never as rewarding; nor is there as much progress to be made. To combat bad posture, try this: Next time you’re sitting in a chair, (whether it’s your office chair, your dining chair, or you’re about to do a set of seated dumbbell presses) this method of correcting your posture can be applied. -Sit up tall like you’re trying to make space between your tailbone and the crown of your head -Next, feel your scapulae contract, bringing your shoulders down and back

4

-Now inflate your chest and engage your abdominal muscles (chest up/ribs down) -The last step is to “tuck” your belly button by contracting the lower abdomen (Yogis say “belly button through your spine).

If you watch yourself do this in front of a mirror, you can literally watch yourself grow!! I’ve seen clients grow up to 2 inches just from adjusting their posture!! This also means that they have some muscular imbalances to work on, but with some corrective exercise and having a conscience effort to hold their bodies in the correct manner, they will actually stand taller, they will have substantially less risk of injury and their flexibility and overall fitness generally improves as well.
