Overview IGCSE Music offers students the opportunity to develop their own practical musical skills through performing and composing. They also develop their listening skills by studying music from the main historical periods and styles of Western music as well as from selected non-Western traditions. The emphasis of the syllabus is as much on developing lifelong musical skills as on acquiring knowledge. Syllabus Cambridge IGCSE Music (0410) Course Aims The Cambridge IGCSE Music should enable students to: • Acquire and consolidate a range of basic musical skills, knowledge and understanding, through the activities of listening, performing and composing • develop a perceptive, sensitive and critical response to the main historical periods and styles of western music • Recognise and understand the music of various non-Western traditions, and thus form an appreciation of cultural similarities and differences • Create a foundation for the development of an informed appreciation of music • Create a foundation for further study in music at a higher level Course Content • General listening skills • Music in the Classical period • Music in the Romantic period • Baroque music • Twentieth-century music • World music • World focus and Set Work • Performing • Composing Assessment Component 1 (c.1 hour 15 minutes) Listening 40% (70 marks) A written examination based on CD recordings supplied by Cambridge International Externally assessed Component 2 Coursework - Performing 30% (50 marks) Two prepared performances, one individual and one ensemble Internally marked/externally moderated Component 3 Coursework - Composing 30% (100 marks scaled to 50 marks) Two contrasting compositions Internally marked/externally moderated

Physical Education (examined)

Overview IGCSE Physical Education is an interesting and challenging learning experience. In it we introduce key sporting ideas and show how these interact with practical performance, you will gain insights into the relationships they have with each other throughout the course. Physical Education involves the development of transferable skills including: decision making, psychological understanding of people, independent thinking, problem solving and analytical skills as well as thinking, acting and reacting under pressure. At Rugby school Physical Education is an integral part of the school day and through the vision of ‘The whole person is the whole point’, we aim to make the theory come to life through practical application and understanding.

Syllabus Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education (0413) Course Aims The Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education syllabus encourages learners to: • develop their knowledge and understanding of the theory underpinning physical performance in a modern world • use and apply this knowledge and understanding to improve their performance • perform in a range of physical activities, developing skills and techniques, and selecting and using tactics, strategies and/or compositional ideas • understand and appreciate safe practice in physical activity and sport • understand a nd appreciate the benefit of physical activity and sport for health, fitness and wellbeing • gain a sound basis for further study in the field of Physical Education. • an ability to view physical activity and performance from multiple contexts of the performer, the official and the coach Course Content The has been divided into the following sections: • Anatomy and physiology • Health, fitness and training • Skill acquisition and psychology • Social, cultural and ethical influences

Assessment The course is assessed by one external examination paper and one internally/externally moderated coursework at the end of Year 11.
