Luminosity deened as “the relative quantity of light” or “relative brightness of something.” In other words luminosity is the amount of light emitted from a certain light source. The understanding of light has evolved over a decade in the human history and has led to most signiicant technological and scientiic achievements. Luminosity, brightness and illumination are related to each other. Luminosity is the quantity of light, illumination refers to the act of supplying light and brightness is the reeection of light that is how an object appears when illuminated. For Example: how bright a star appears from earth is the brightness and the amount of light it emits from its surface refers to luminosity.
The mechanism that serve to distinguish between light emitting and light reeecting objects are largely unknown. It is suggested that luminosity perception implements a separate pathway in the visual system that luminosity constitutes an independent perceptual feature. In order to consider object as being luminous, it is not necessary to have a physical source of light emission.
Artists used halos since a long time as means to create luminosity effects in their paintings. A region painted with a halo surrounding it perceived with greater brightness even if there was no physical light present. Luminosity enhances the presentation of an object and enlightens the objects on which it falls.
ROLE OF LIGHT IN ARCHITECTURE Light whether natural or artiicial is one of the most important element in architecture design. Light adds beauty to the design. It is considered as an appreciating and important factor in architecture. Light can either be used for illumination or decorative purpose. Lighting the interiors are essential to carry out day to day operations whereas lighting outside is usually done for decorative and safety reasons. Therefore, it is a task for a designer to make effective use of daylighting. An example of the use of daylight in architecture is the world renowned ‘Church of Light’. Constructed by Japanese architect Tadeo Ando and located on the outskirts of Osaka, Japan. The space of the chapel is deened by light creating a strong contrast between light and solid. It took under a year and a half to build, with completion in 1988 and the materials being reinforced concrete and wood. An article by Zaha Hadid widens the understanding on luminosity. The article deals with the way Zaha Hadid handles light and reeects her imagination regarding the medium of light. Hadid’s understanding of light is evident from her work, as to how she has played with luminosity and that is what makes her creation different from others. Her work plays a major role in architecture
Considering her very rst design of the early Vitra Fire Station in which she has used deconstructive lines in concrete walls that illuminates the ground surface, not only with lighting techniques but she has experimented with the form as well which could be seen in her project of The Phaeno Science Centre which combines both day and artiicial light. She has been successful in establishing a alighting relationship between the building’s exterior and interior which is evident from her design for The Heyder Aliyev Centre, as the building reeects light during the day and at night the interior light ows out of the buildin surface and enhance the geometry. Her design for Nanjimg International Youth Cultural Centre was ing’s closely related to the Phaeno Science Centre in terms of structures and related to Heyder Aliyev Centre in terms of ceiling lights.Conclusively, Hadid had used light as important aspect of architecture and her designs has successively evolved in terms of form and light with each project she has done. Hadid had managed to come up a new luminaire design with her every project

REFLECTION OF LIGHT
Philosophical meaning
The basic meaning of reeection is something that comes back as a response. Reeection can be deened as the bouncing back of light after it obstructs any surface without being absorbed by it. Light ray will be reeected with the same angle with which it is falling on the surface
Philosophically, reeection is the process of reproducing, under the innuence of other things, traces or imprints. Reeective thinking origins reach back centuries to early philosophical work. Reeective practice is viewed as a thought process aimed at understanding and improving. Personal experience innuence reeective practice outcomes. Reeection occurs in dierent ways, reeection considers social, moral and ethical perspe spectives and has the potential to aect community. Reeection is not only an important aspect of architecture but also is important in our daily life. According to me, it goes parallel with the law of karma that it what you do reeects backs to you.

Meaning Opacity refers to the state of being opaque, in other words it is the state when it is difficult for light to pass through. The term opacity is used for something more unclear or obscure. As far as understanding of light is concerned, light cannot pass through opaque objects usually solid Linguistic deenition Opacity Opaci is the characteristic of being difficult to understand or unclear. In linguistic terms, it is the quality that makes a statement or a problem complex to understand. It could be explained by taking an example of a professor whose lectures are known for ‘opacity’, is going to nd himself in the class of all frustrated students or like the opacity of a novel full of ten-syllable words or a dictionary that doesn't give you any clear or straightforward deenitions Whiteness in Nordic countries The article draws attention upon Scandinavian countries with great buildings and how they resonate scarce light both during winter and summer. Professor Henry Plummer, have carefully studied the daylight phenomena of the Nordic countries and along with his photo journals and brilliant writing depicted the advantages of white surfaces that facilitate the bright rooms.
As of the weather conditions in Nordic countries, architects ha white surfaces to maintain a balance between the long and da been possible as the daylight enters the building from the side lower position of sun creating long shadows. Whiteness has been important aspect while designing buildin There have been some great building like the Denmark’s medi design approach innuences modern buildings as well. In the ch enters from three different directions being low from the north steel cruciix, from south as glancing wash and shower directly larly, the Bagaerd Church by Jorn Utzon is based on the white c tect reveals his design approach of providing white walls and c lig due to limited availability in De make optimum use of the light duces intensity of light which is greater inside than outside.Wh that was introduced by alvar alto by using materials like white enamelled steel and white linoleum for the Paimio Sanatorium achieved a peak at the Nordyjllands art Museum in 1972. FILTRATION MEANING The process of separating two materials is referred to as Filtration and is usually used to separate solid from liquids. The latter that passes through the ltering material is known as ltrate and the medium used for ltering is known as lter. Most light sources emit a broad range of wavelengths that cover the entire visible light spectrum. In many instances, however, it is desirable to produce light that has a restricted wavelength spectrum. This can be easily acc accomplished through the use of specialized lters that transmit some wavelengths and selectively absorb or reeect unwanted wavelengths
PHILOSOPHICAL MEANING In philosophical terms ltration refers to selective presentation or deliberate manipulation of information to make it more acceptable and favourable for its recipient. For example, we can say that the secretary was excellent at ltering her boss’s emails due to his horrible grammar, bad attitude and improper spelling. Therefore, in other words it is known as purity of something.
MEANING IN ARCHITECTURE Le Corbusier, for his skills is listed among the famous architects for playing with the orientation, opening and textures of the building to create a kinetic architecture with the use of daylight. His designs for religious buildings like that of the pilgrimage chapel at Ron champ, the monastery of Sainte Marie da la Tourette, and the Paris church of Saint- Pierre in Firminy reveal individual characteristics that reeects his imagination with the use of light. The spiritual relationship between believers and god has many foundations in the understanding of light. The key verses throughout the bible have led to belief of light being of divine nature. As an artist and an architect, le Corbusier have been successful in creating an exceptional relationship with light which is evident from his buildings as a result of his interaction with colours and light. One of such interaction can be experienced, in the design of Chapel of Notre Dame du Haut at Ron champ, which is based on the principle of continuous circle of solar events.
