PROFILE

DESIGN SKILLS

" Thought of better living for all creatures.

AutoCAD

In my studies and experience I have brought two design areas together, interior design and landscape arhcitecture. My goal is to learn more about design - better living for all creatures, both aesthetically and environmentally. Progressively, I have engaged with design skills and logical thinking through multiple experiences.

3ds Max

My bachelor degree of enironmental art was completed in Chinese, while master degree of landscape architecture was completed in English, my second language, which now allows me to communicate efficiently in two languages.

Adobe Illustrator

Interior design and landscape architecture now inform the way I work as a landscape architect intersectionally. It is exciting prospect to work with people and context those are entirely new to me, in my skilled fields.

FOLDING LAND ECOLOGICAL CORRIDOR

POSITION The project is to regenerate the city spot, Franklin st, where the CBD north station is located in, to be a public open space for people to stay in the urban context, as well as a transition place from the metro station. The project is trying to utilize the natural resources systems serve to urban, such as vegetation, soil, stormwater and underground water flowing system, associating with artificial materials which are impermeable. CONCEPT The idea is to consider the landscape as a system to collect, filter and store stormwater by forming specific topography, eventually providing the irrigation water for urban green. The conception of land form is created by folding a piece of square paper as a component, and configuring those units to the site. The idea is to maximize the collection of water and lead to the storage by the natural way. The idea is referenced from Johanna F. Barthmaire, who does the project, Tempelhof Wasserpark.

FOLDING

CONFIGURATION

The project is to regenerate the site, Franklin st, where the CBD north station is located in, to be a public open space for people to stay in the urban context, as well as a trasition place from meatro station. The idea is trying to utilize the natural resources and system serve to urban, such as stormwater and underground water flowing. In this project, the landscape is considered as the way to collect stormwater, and better to lead the water flow to underground when there is a heavy rain or even rainstorm. Surface materials and the landscape objects would be the core elements concerned on the project.

INTO THE WILD THE WILD JOURNEY IN EAST HAMBURG

The project is to utilize and rebuild the ignored places in the factory area in the East Hamburg to create a recreational area to attract residents and tourists. Pelple nowdays live in a secure and comfort lives with technical devices such as mobile and computer, our porject is to design the space into an innovative and make a bold change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too attempt. This is to make people live in the real world, make a new type of adventurous touring style as well as get away from normal lifestyle for a while. Within this project, we want to biuld a linear wild landscape area in the large competition area, the whole linear space is a transition from normal city experience to a radical and innovative wild experience. The city experience is safe, comfort and monotonous within a clear and organized spaces and boundaries, while in the experience in our project, residents and tourists can have an excited and fickle experience with sunlight, fog, topography, wind and temperature. Such as walking in the mist in the forest, slope on the dirt and grass, sleep on the trunk of tree and many other risky experiences. Wild and Urbanism appear as two opposites that were combined in this project. Reflecting the city in the wild and the wild in city. Located in Hamburg, Germany, Wild Urbanism acts as a nature and adventure in the city. The design echoes the remanent and artificial wild of Hamburg and calls people to experience a narrative of place which is often underprivileged in an age of economic and urban growth.

Grass slope

Our team used the Grasshoper, Ladybug and Follow Design to simulate the site atmospheric elements - wing, sunlight and moist, purpose to come up with the sitespecific strategy.

SITE DESIGN -- CAVE EXPERIENCE The site is designed to be cave topography, which is purposed to experience different temperature. Experiencing a contrast condition, dark and light at day, warm and cold in winter, cool and hot in summer, humidity and dry contrast will happen in spring.

Elements

SITE DESIGN -- ADVENTURE WOODLAND Elements

Since a plenty of natural resources within the site, intervention to nature is intented to happen at this site, by creating adventure facilities and raised path. The wetland is designed to form a foggy.space in this windless area. Experiencing windless, shade, wet and foggy.

SITE DESIGN - Rolling on the Factory Roofs This is one part of factories area within the south of competition area. Poor accessability and single utility are the main issue. Creating public function is considered to contribute for resident and tourist, and potentially connect to urban context. The factory roofs are designed to be grass slope, linking by bridges. More windy and sunny will happen after deisgn.

CO-FORMING EDGE

Filter waste water

The CO-FORMING EDGE is a proposal to reform the current intertidal edge in the estuary Yarra River into a formation able to cultivate a hybrid landscape; one where ecology sits above but in relationship with the general public.

Access Water Option

CALTEX MELBOURNE TERMINAL

Since the 1870’s West Melbourne has undergone an extensive urbanisation converting the landscape into an “effective” channel for shipping requirements. This extensive urbanisation has been at the expense of the Yarra River estuary and its ecological value.

Industrial Zone A short disatance to river, and a low demand of recreational activites within this region, the strategy will be kept the specific function, such as parking, barging, waste water discharge. The proposing edge is much intent to form a terrain co-existance with the site facilities.

Instead of the fertilized interface between earth and water as recorded previous to this urbanisation, an unyielding and raised edge - constructed not as a site specific intervention but a common formation for the urban context, a pragmatic solution for flood mitigation but at expense to the ecology. This investigation takes a critical thinking on its intertidal habitat that has ecological and public value.

PORT MELBOURNE

RIVERSIDE PARK

While the city was originally formed by the river, the river has been shaped by urban development. This research project intends to reclaim this estuarine landscape; one which co-forms as presence of landscape serving the shorebird, duck and frog, and to allow access to the abundance of benefits to the community that have grown beside the river. The research presents a review of the agenda behind the river’s edge, while also examining a range of formal outcomes specific to interaction through material investigation and design. This concern is intent to grow up the estuarine environment for intertidal species. This argument identifies four methods – terrain, blur, extend to the water and create dune. Taking the way of terrain the edge develops to implement as five phases, implies a strategy plan on the Yarra site.

Water Access

Estuarine plants are important plants as they protect shore lines from erosion, improve water quality by trapping sediments, provide habitat, and are highly productive. The productivity of these habitats is largely due to an abundance of algae and diatom phytoplankton, which feed a diverse foodweb. Seagrasses may contain up to 1000 times more animals than a comparable area of bare sediment. Juveniles of Cite: JCHO website

Swanson Dock and Appleton Dock were built, Maribyrnong River estuarine canal was re constructed to be straigh. River course between Yarra River and Maribyrnong River was removed. Coode Island disappeared. West Melbourne Swamp completely disappeared.

1972-1984

Planned Construction

In February, 2017, a greater flow of water occured ephemeral streams such as Elizabeth Street, caused by the stripping away of vegetation and sealing of ground surfaces with non-porous materials such as bitumen and concrete.

MATERIALITY Site materials study

MATERIAL TESTING

Sand This is a test of geological material, sand, purpose to find out its performance when it is encountered the external forces. The test is under taken on three phrases, shape, movement of top view and side view. The testing method is that a sand mountain is set on a paper, repeatedly hit by an object on its one point. The action is captured to pictures and recorded to video on its top and side. - Shape The shape will be changed by the force, the mountain is reformed around the object, and the scatter sand run far away from the centre of the pile. Meanwhile, it makes the pile boundary become blur. Within in the repeated hit on the one point of the pile, its shape doesn't change so much after the third hit. The size changes from 16.5cm to 26cm by five times hit. - Movement - top view While is encountered an external force, the sand mountain scatters around, and it is tendence to move to the folding line when the paper is folded. - Movement - side view The size of original pile is 16.5cm of diameter and 2cm of high. The sand pile runs from the centre to side and high. It is about 10cm on high, and 13cm from centre to side. Even it is fine sand, when it is hit, a quick totally fall down happens because of its quality.
