Room for the River IJssel delta
New situation
Various measures are being implemented in the IJssel delta at Kampen to improve high water safety and the spatial planning quality of the river IJssel. As such, the summer bed is being lowered by around two metres and six flood plains are being restructured to bolster the natural features.

The Reevediep high water channel is being created to the south of Kampen. In the event of extreme water discharge, a proportion of the water from the IJssel will be discharged to the lake Dronter- and Vossemeer through this channel. Approx. 400 ha of nature, a ferry connection and 30 km of cycle paths and footpaths are to be created in and around the Reevediep.

During exceptional high water, the various measures will ensure a 41 cm drop in water level at Zwolle. As such, these measures are an important element in the water safety of a sizeable part of the IJssel delta.
