The groynes have shipping beacons. These will be relocated and extended.
Thereby ensuring the navigation channel remains visible during high water.

450 groynes are being lowered and partly replaced by longitudinal dams between Gorinchem and Nijmegen, allowing the river Waal to discharge more water during high water levels, as a result.
Groynes will be lowered (±1 m) over a section of the river Waal spanning roughly 60 km between Gorinchem and Nijmegen.
