The dyke in Buitenpolder Munnikenland and the Brakelse Benedenwaarden (flood plains) is to be relocated and there will be channels created to allow water to pass through during times of high peak discharges from the river Waal.

A heightened access road is being constructed to keep Castle Loevestein accessible for as long as possible at high water. The dotted line shows how high the water can get once every five years.

The new dyke is being constructed as a tiered dyke with viewing points for cyclists and walkers. The dotted line shows how high the water can get once every 1,250 years.
